Abstract:
How do graduate students perceive the quality of digital education? With considering the characters of postgraduates, this research examined the mediating role of academic self-efficacy and the moderating effect of digital literacy in the basic model. A survey of 1,256 graduate students in the southwestern region of China was conducted, and structural equation modeling and curve fitting were adopted for mechanism analysis. The research found that the level of digitization in higher education institutions affects postgraduate students' perception of academic self-efficacy, which in turn influences their perceived education quality. Furthermore, in digital education within higher education institutions, postgraduate students with high digital literacy perceive higher perceived education quality compared to those with low digital literacy. The relationship between digital technology and postgraduate students' perceived education quality is not linearly increasing, but rather follows a steep and then smooth upward curve.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTHow do individuals’ fairness judgments affect their political evaluations? This article argues that when citizens perceive high levels of distributive unfairness in society, they will be less satisfied with the way democracy functions. Yet good governance—that is, impartiality in the exercise of political authority—should mitigate the negative influence of perceived distributive unfairness on satisfaction. Using a cross-national analysis of 18 Latin American countries from 2011 to 2015, this study demonstrates that individuals are significantly less satisfied with democracy when they perceive their country’s income distribution as unfair. Yet good governance significantly offsets this negative relationship, even in a region with the highest level of inequality in the world. These findings imply that policymakers can bolster democratic satisfaction, even in places where citizens perceive the income distribution as fundamentally unfair, by committing to good governance and fair democratic procedures.

Abstract:
Purpose – The aim of this paper is to identify tourists' perceptions of services provided by hotels in Antalya/Turkey and to explore hotel service quality dimensions. Specifically, the objectives are as follows: to identify the dimensions of hotel service quality, and to determine the relative impact of those dimensions on customer satisfaction levels, on customer value and on customers' intentions to recommend or revisit a hotel. Design/methodology/approach – The present study uses the framework which originally appeared in Juwaheer's study investigating international tourists' perceptions of hotels in Mauritius. In this framework ten hotel service quality dimensions were defined by factor analysis and then the most important dimensions for each component were determined using stepwise regression analysis. Findings – Of the ten hotel service quality dimensions, “tangibles” and “food quality and reliability” influence the customer satisfaction level the most. Customer value is explained by five dimensions which generate 37.8 percent of the variance. “Hotel employees and problem solving”, “transportation”, “food quality and reliability”, “climate and hygiene”, “level of price”, “tangibles”, “interaction with Turkish culture” and “friendly, courteous and helpful employees” are the main dimensions which affect whether a guest will recommend a hotel. “Tangibles”, “interaction with Turkish culture”, and “level of price” are seen as the most influential dimensions in terms of customers' intentions to revisit a hotel. Research limitations/implications – The basic limitation of the study is the unexplained variance, which is the result of the regression analysis. Therefore, future research should aim to determine the factors explaining that variance. Practical implications – In light of these findings, hotel managers in Antalya can better understand their guests' priorities and consequently, they can arrange their service encounter process accordingly to fulfill these priorities. Originality/value – This study presents potentially valuable information for hotel managers in Antalya with regards to understanding customer value and satisfaction, which are the key elements in terms of guests revisiting a hotel and recommending it to others. As providing an opportunity for a comparative study of service quality searches, this study contributes to the field.

Abstract:
Quality is considered the most indispensable means to compete in the marketplace for all food companies. Apart from the objective quality concerning the physical – chemical – microbiological characteristics, which links to the concept of food security; the subjective quality concerning the quality as perceived by consumers is utmost important since it links to the concept of consumer demand [1].
This paper proposed a new methodology which aimed to assess the subjective quality as follows: (1) to examine whether consumers could perceive and/or understand the quality criteria used by experts to assess the product quality, and (2) in case consumers could do, to investigate whether these expert criteria related to the consumer-perceived quality.
This methodology is based on the traditional conjoint analysis combining with an add-on, the sorting task. Consumers are asked to sort 9 pictures of bananas, and then to rate the pictures according to their perception of the perceived quality presenting on the pictures. The methodology will be illustrated through a case study performed on Vietnamese consumers.
The results showed that: (1) consumers could perceive the experts’ quality criteria such as bruise, shape, and color; and (2) the consumer-perceived quality related to these expert quality criteria. In addition, the results also showed that bruise was the most important attribute affect consumer appreciation of quality.
For practical application, we expected that this methodology could provide useful information about the subjective quality for those researchers who want to improve the quality based on consumer demand.

Abstract:
Background: The rapidly growing gig economy brings lots of opportunities and challenges, and one of them is workers’ affective commitment. Because of the gig economy’s nature, gig workers depend on the technology-enabled platform to finish their tasks. We investigate how gig workers’ perception of the platform’s quality, or IS quality, will affect how they perceive organizational support and fairness, which further affects their affective commitment. Method: We surveyed 239 Uber drivers in Indonesia to test our model via snow-balling technique. We used PLS with a second-order formative construct model to validate our hypotheses. Results: The results showed that the two dimensions of IS quality, information quality and system quality, were positively associated with organizational support. Only information quality was positively associated with fairness. Both organizational support and fairness were positively associated with affective commitment. Conclusion: For uber drivers, information quality and system quality of the Uber App serve as drivers of perceived organization support. Information quality also contributes to perceived fairness. Drivers who perceive high organization support and fairness are more likely to be affectively committed to the organization.

Abstract:
A study was made to investigate ways in which consumers perceive the quality of food products and a model of the quality perception process was developed. Consumers used intrinsic (colour and appearance of product) and extrinsic (price and brand name) factors to determine rating of a product on quality aspects that cannot be evaluated at point of purchase (such as taste). The model was used on 13 foods and a high score for a food quality variable (nutritive value, energy content, additives and sensory quality) indicates that this quality is perceived as important. Energy content of meat, cheese, minced meat, margarine and meat products is perceived as most important indicator of quality. A high score for additives in jams, canned and jarred vegetables indicates that these products are perceived as poor quality. (Abstract retrieved from CAB Abstracts by CABI’s permission)

Abstract:
New Jersey is 1 of 46 states to enroll in President Obama's Race-to-the-Top Initiative. Participating states must adopt national standards, revise teacher evaluation procedures, and administer new state assessments. States are prioritizing quality professional development (PD) to prepare teachers for these rapid shifts. The overall problem studied was how high school teachers perceive the quality of PD in a high school in New Jersey. While substandard PD alone is not enough to lose tenure, it has recently become one of the evaluative measures for teacher performance according to a new tenure law signed in 2012 by Governor Chris Christie. Such added pressures could impact teachers' attitudes toward their professional growth. The study was based on Mezirow and Knowles' theory of adult learning as well as social constructivism. Several questions guided this study, such as how can teachers' perceptions shape the current PD program in the featured high school and if the current shifts in educational reform affect their perception. A case study was used as the research design, and interviews were employed as the main method of gathering qualitative data. Subsequently, 7 educators in various content-specialties were interviewed. Once the interviews were analyzed, transcribed, and coded, 5 significant themes emerged: (a) organized and relevant training, (b) in-class support, (c) continuity and constructive feedback, (d) accountability of transference, and (e) a culture of respectful collaboration and partnership. The implications for social change for this project would be that an effective PD program at the high school might improve the high school teachers' attitudes toward their own professional growth. Improved attitudes might motivate teachers to apply new knowledge, which will increase student performance, faculty morale, and community & family relations.

Abstract:
The quality of education is a current topic and much discussed in the scenario of the public policies that aim to guarantee it. However, the quality of the science education being measured through assessments is still novelty among the Brazilian municipalities, so this study is about the initiative taken by the Municipal Education Secretariat of Rio de Janeiro (SME). At first, the study presents the history of the science education in Brazil from the1940s and then explores the aspects related to the history of the science education in the city of Rio de Janeiro, emphasizing the political contexts and teaching. In a supplementary way, it discusses the issue of the quality in education and the search of it by the Municipal Network of Rio de Janeiro, reporting the political actions and their theoretical frameworks. The materials available on the network in 2010 and 2011 are examined, and also the profile of the tests applied, evaluating the changes that occurred during this period, as well as the prospects of the Network for the science education. In addition, the results achieved in the schools are presented, both in the IDERio 2010 as in the science tests of the Network, perceiving the possible impacts of the infrastructure resources of the school, of the complementary activities, of the training of the teaching staff and of the IDS in the performance of schools. The conclusion is that the quality of the science education, focusing the performance on the evaluations, still leaves much to be desired. But it is noticeable the effort of SME in structuring didactically the science education, expecting the improvement in its quality.

Murphy, Raymond Peter. "Client perceived value in quality consultancy relationships." Thesis, University of Birmingham, 2002. http://etheses.bham.ac.uk//id/eprint/308/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis makes a generalisable contribution to the development of a dynamic relationship approach to the theory and practice of quality management in professional services. A value generation system and practitioner tools are proposed as a result of a synthesis of literature from multiple disciplines, grounded in empirical research. The methodology involves an analysis of detailed case studies carried out by the author when acting as a consultant researcher. This is supported by the findings of a skills questionnaire sent to client contacts who had experienced ISO 9000 consultancy, together with a key incident survey of satisfying and dissatisfying incidents. Customer service research provides an analysis of customer perceived value within a service exchange (Zeithaml et al, 1990; Ghobadian et al, 1994; Patterson et al, 1997; Groth and Dye, 1999). Relationship marketing literature provides an analysis of customer perceived value in a relationship between two organisations (Halinen, 1997; Hakansson, 1995; Storbacka et al, 1994; Payne, 1995; Juttner et al, 1994, Ford et al, 1998). A relationship process structure identified in counselling literature is shown to be complementary to consultancy at the episode level. Comparable higher relationship levels relating to the assignment process and account development processes are identified within consultancy and relationship marketing literature respectively and integrated within the proposed system. A critique of the registration approach to quality management systems (ISO 9000: 1994 and its successor ISO 9000: 2000) is included as a necessary factor in forming an opinion about the generalisability of the research findings.

Abstract:
Globalization has developed more and more within the business world as well as private life during the last decades. Globalization has influenced the way companies are conducting business and their approach towards the consumers which can have an influence on their way of purchasing. Consumers nowadays have more than ever the possibility to get involved and gather experiences from abroad, as well as companies are taking advantage of this globalization. Within this thesis the following question will be discussed: Do consumers see the value companies try to create for them with an identical offer the same way in different markets? This idea is based on Theodore Levitt’s theory of globalization which comprises standardization of an offer since consumer needs are homogenizing globally. Douglas & Wind instead state that segmentation with adaptations is necessary to fulfill all consumer needs. Within this elaboration the question whether standardization is accepted and liked by the consumers is discussed and analyzed by including an empirical research. This research is based on Zeithaml’s model of the Perceived Quality Components, which was the fundamental base behind formulating the survey questions. These were submitted in Germany, the Republic of Ireland and Sweden to be able to discuss and visualize how the consumers of these different markets perceive different aspects of a company’s offer. One particular company, which is seen as doing business globally, was chosen as a test object. Based on the test object Lidl - which consumers were questioned about in the survey - it was possible to conduct a comparison of consumers’ general expectations against components of Lidl’s offer such as price, weekly specials, product range, etc. where differences and similarities between the three countries of Lidl’s fulfillment of these expectations were achieved. They were analyzed to discover to which extent globalization is present. Resulting from the comparison it was concluded that nowadays segmentation is important but developing with time globalization seems to increase in significance. Recommendations for further research about topics which were omitted due to limited resources are presented.

Abstract:
The rendering process of a large number of 3D objects is computationally expensive and to achieve a fluent experience for the observer, optimization techniques need to be applied. One such technique for rendering 3D objects is with image-based impostors, which involves replacing a 3D object with a 2D image. This thesis investigates the number of degrees the observer can move in relation to the impostor before updating its representation to still appear as a 3D object. Specifically, the aim of this thesis is to explore what update-rate an impostor of a virtual human should have to be perceived as smooth, and if the distance between the user and impostor has any effect on this update-rate. A user study was conducted with an experiment outline based on previous work by Hamill et al. [1], with the objective to answer if a certain update-rate was considered smooth or jerky. Results display that an update every ~5.9° was considered smooth at a close distance, while an update-rate of ~6.5° was considered smooth when the impostor was far away from the observer. A one- way ANOVA test on the two different distances indicated that the distance did not significantly influence the degree that was considered smooth. This implies that impostors of virtual humans should be used with an update-rate of approximately 6°, regardless of the distance between the observer and the impostor.

Abstract:
The objectives of this study were to examine the association between patient perceived healthcare quality and self-reported medical, medication, and laboratory errors using cross-sectional and cross-national questionnaire data from eleven countries. In this research, quality of care was measured by a multi-faceted construct, which adopted the patient's perspectives. Five separated quality of care scales were assessed: Access to Care, Continuity of care, Communication of Care, Care Coordination, and Provider's Respect for Patients' Preferences. The findings from this investigation support a number of other published studies suggesting that Coordination of Care is an important predictor of perceived patient safety. After adjusting for potentially important confounding variables, an increase in peoples' perceptions of Coordination of Care decreased the likelihood of self-reporting medical errors (OR =0.605, 95% CI: 0.569 to 0.653), medication errors (OR =0.754, 95% CI: 0.691 to 0.830), and laboratory errors (OR =0.615, 95% CI: 0.555 to 0.681). Finally, results showed that the healthcare system type governing care processes modifies the effect of Coordination of Care on self-reported medication errors.

Abstract:
AbstractFunding structures and review processes are still considered as among the major barriers to transdisciplinary research. The search for convincing and satisfying avenues and guidelines for funding agencies and review panels is ongoing. The question of how to evaluate transdisciplinary research has been debated for some time, and it resulted in a considerable number of proposals and criteria. What is missing is a scholarly engagement with the evaluation practice. Knowing more about the actual dynamics of evaluation processes, about the challenges faced by those involved, and about what they perceive to be supportive could uncover promising (and evidence based) paths both for review processes and for future research. Three case studies in which we accompanied the evaluation of transdisciplinary research and in which we collaborated with funders, review panels, and research teams provide the empirical fundament of the chapter. The evaluation processes in all three cases are characterized by ‘well-meaning and well-informed actors’ (actors who value transdisciplinary research, are experienced in dealing with it, are aware of the specific requirements of such research). We present results about requirements for practicable criteria, about the interdisciplinary nature of the evaluation processes, and about the potential of adopting a transdisciplinary approach in evaluating transdisciplinary research.

AbstractIn this chapter the practice of complying with pollution regulations at sea is examined in relation to how work on board ships is affected. The central argument made is that while seafarers mostly perceive pro-environmental practices as morally correct and therefore worthwhile, a number of them believe that being ‘green’ makes great demands on their time and upon the quality of work and life on board the ship.

Abstract:
AbstractThe diagnosis of Graves’ orbitopathy is based on a typical clinical presentation, supported by a family history of Graves’ disease, in combination with typical findings on CT or MRI scans and/or elevated serum levels of TSH-receptor-binding immunoglobulins and anti-thyroid peroxidase. In order to treat patients with Graves’ orbitopathy, not only the diagnosis, but also the severity and activity scores have to be assessed. The impact of a diagnosis of Graves’ orbitopathy should not be underestimated. The disease-specific quality-of-life questionnaire for patients with Graves’ orbitopathy, the so-called GO-QOL, is very helpful to perceive the disease from the patient’s point of view.

Abstract:
The impact of air pollution on public and environmental remains huge burden in Nigeria that has not been properly addressed. Poverty energy supply has further exacerbated the current situations making business to rely on generators for energy power supply. This study aims to assess the impact of generators-induced air pollution on stress levels among printing press workers in a specific setting Abuja. This cross-sectional designed was adopted to conduct this study among printing press workers who use generators in Abuja. A total of 508 workers were selected using simple random sampling. Data on stress levels were collected using a validated perceive stress scale (PSS) 10 item scale, while exposure to air pollution from generators was assessed through on-site air quality monitoring device. A Generalized Linear Model (GLM) was employed to analyze the relationship between generator-related air pollution and stress levels, adjusting for potential confounders. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 27, with significance set at p < 0.05. Results, shows that the mean PSS 10 scale was: >25.90 (SD 4.35), a bivariate correlation analysis indicates statistically significant positive correlation between the air pollutant variables and perceive stress, p-value 0.001. A GzLM analysis show that; In model 1, the air pollutant variable was found to have a significant positive effect on stress scale (PM2.5: β = 1.029 (95% CI; 1.024-1.034)). In model 2, both the two air pollutants PM2.5 and PM10 were found to be significantly associated with increase in stress levels (PM2.5: β = 1.568 (95% CI: 1.397 – 1.759)) and (PM10: β = 1.336 (95% CI: 1.202 – 1.486)) separately. Contrary to model 1 and 2, most of the variables model 3 were not statistically significantly associated with increase in log odds higher perceive stress, except for PM2.5 which was adjusted. Inconclusion, this study demonstrates statistically significant association between air pollutants and stress scale. The findings highlighted the importance of addressing energy policy issues and air quality concerns as potential factors affecting stress and mental health.

Abstract:
Perceived Quality clusters different aspects that influence the customer’s perception of non-functional quality on a product that are perceive through senses. All together those aspects and the harmony between them reflect the producer’s ability to control product parameters and thereby also mirror the functional quality of the product. High Perceived Quality cannot be added to the product at the end of the developing process. Project prerequisites, system solution, factory capability etc. are criterion to succeed. Therefore, it is important to be able to evaluate Perceived Quality early in the process when product system solutions and architecture are defined, although data maturity is low. This paper presents a comprehensive framework to manage and support evaluation of Perceived Quality aspects in a product development process. The framework is based on an industrial process in combination with recent research within the field. The framework focuses on activities that can be performed at different stages in the developing process based on maturity of the CAD or styling data. For example, if the styling data is divided into different components by split-lines it has reached higher level of maturity then styling data that not has been divided. Consequently, the choice of applied method is based on data maturity, regardless phase in the developing process. The framework contains methods based on several different simulation and analysis techniques. Design methods, Computer-Aided Tolerancing and FEA based non-rigid variation simulation are represented in the framework.

Abstract:
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">One of the very first customer touchpoint in a vehicle is quality of gear shifting. Gearshift quality is perceived as a symbol of refinement of a vehicle. Globally, lot of efforts are taken to refine the gearshift quality. Design improvements in internal components of transmission, cable and shifter assembly, knob design iterations are carried out to arrive at optimum gearshift quality at the vehicle level. Current practice for this activity includes processes such as design modification, manufacturing of proto components, assembly of components and fitment in the vehicle. This vehicle is then instrumented with sensors and data acquisition units to capture the parameters which determine the gearshift quality. This is an iterative process which goes on until necessary refinement/improvement is achieved. This process requires investment of lot of time, efforts and the budget. This paper describes a virtual approach to arrive at optimum design of components. This paper gives details of a gearshift simulator which is capable of simulating in real time the shift feel of the vehicle in both static and dynamic condition. With this, gearshift feel can be perceived at early design stage. The simulator requires all design parameters of shift system components of a particular transmission along with engine and vehicle level parameters. The controller of the simulator processes the input data and based on driver inputs provides real time feedback on the shift lever which is perceived as a gear shift event. Design modification in the components can be readily adopted in the model of simulator giving its effect on the gearshift quality. This reduces the number of iterations to be performed to arrive at design maturity before it is taken ahead for manufacturing.</div></div>

Abstract:
Brands try to capture young consumers as they are early adopters which help them to secure business for long term. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of brand association, brand awareness, brand image, perceived quality and the mediating effect of brand loyalty on brand equity among young consumers and their direct relationship with brand equity. Data from 75 young consumers were analysed using an open-source software named Jamovi and PLS-SEM. Empirical results via Correlation and Multiple regression authenticated that direct relation was insignificant for all the variables except perceived quality but most variables were significant in indirect relationship with brand loyalty as mediator. Overall, the model was an average fit. Perceive quality predominantly affects brand loyalty, which in turn has a significant impact on brand equity. These findings imply to marketing professionals and practitioners to aid them develop marketing strategies to amplify brand equity and gain a competitive edge to foster their business.

Abstract:
Since the early 1960s, an interdisciplinary field of environmental perception has been developed, withal earlier urban researches have focused on how people perceive their urban environment. Our study aims to assess the environmental quality through user’s perception, so to explore the way people perceive the outdoor spaces in Guelma we have conducted a survey questionnaire in three outdoor spaces, Martyr’s square, El Horia public garden, and Bou El mokh square. The assessment is based on a set of scientifically valid assessment criteria and indicators linked to the principles of sustainable development. The results of this study indicate that the outdoor spaces must play several roles in cities dynamics and functioning, depending on the local context and on the neighbourhood. The intensity of use and the frequency of outdoor spaces differs from one place to another, so it is necessary to avoid generic assumptions and to encourage local perceptual assessments.

Abstract:
Abstract. The article clarifies specific concepts of persuasion in media texts; describes new techniques of media influence based on materials of online publications; shows the role of expressive means of language and emotions in visual communication. In social communication, persuasive logos refer to meaningful words and thoughts conveyed through mass media and logically perceived as a reasonable persuasion to proper actions based on the principles of morality, ethics, and culture; informational and influential accents. In modern science (Philosophy, Psychology, Rhetoric, Linguistics), logos has acquired not only new meanings, but also has become an important concept of rational expression of free ideas, meanings, reflections. From this perspective, new media serve as the most concentrated source of logosphere and eidosphere creation, which should be thoroughly studied and analyzed every day. The research on multimedia texts, genre diversity, new platforms, and online publications has significantly contributed to the Media Studies. Techniques of persuasive communication, methods of argumentation, and verbal tools form a separate area of the research within the field. Unlike manipulation, persuasion is the conscious use of written or spoken language, interactive visualization, and infographics to influence someone’s beliefs, views, or actions; gain someone’s support, approve the suggested ways of behavior, intentions, etc. Means of persuasion in media texts serve as logical information accents aimed at the proper perception of the corresponding meanings. In general, factors of persuasion are to influence the masses and the motivation of their actions, modify views, and form public opinion. In journalism, these are meaningful words, thoughts, principles of high-quality narrative with the use of convincing arguments, facts and, most importantly, positive intentions for the readers. Persuasive media texts exclude manipulation of public opinion, trust and people’s inclination to perceive doctrines imposed on them. Keywords: persuasion, concept, visual information, social communication.

Using an approach that complements standard income-based measures with broader measures of well-being this paper addresses the relationship between quality of life and deprivation. In particular, this study uses nutritional insecurity and income instability as measures of deprivation and analyzes their relationship with perceived and objective well-being. First, this paper investigates whether, and to what extent, nutritional insecurity affects perceived well-being. The authors then try to understand who, within the household, bears more the consequences of nutritional insecurity, both in terms of perceived welfare and in terms of objective nutritional outcomes. Finally, this paper focuses on the relationship between perceived well-being and income instability.
