Obesity represents a serious threat to health which can be reduced by volitional control of eating and physical activity behaviour. Social cognition theories propose that such behaviour is influenced by cognitions regarding its desirability. The role of obesity outcome expectancies in predicting weight control behaviour has not been established and there are no psychometrically sound measures of these constructs. Introduction: Nursing presence occurs when nurses expend themselves on the behalf of a unique patient. This phenomenon requires further research to develop instruments. The Presence of Nursing Scale (PONS) measures the patient’s perspective (Kostovich, 2012). There is currently no rigorous definition for texture scale that is applicable to textures of a wide range of regularities. Each time we meet a new person, we draw inferences based on our impressions. The first thing we are likely to notice is a personâ s face. The face functions as one source of information, which we combine with the spoken word, body language, past experience, and the context of the situation to form judgments. Facial expressions serve as pieces of information we use to understand what another person is thinking, saying, or feeling. While there is strong support for the universality of emotion recognition, the ability to identify and interpret facial expressions varies by individual. Existing sc

Thompson, Robyn D. "Perception of health : a phenomenological study of the meaning of health to Indo-Canadians." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 1989. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/27345.

Abstract:
This study was designed to investigate the meaning of health to Indo-Canadians. Given the increasingly multicultural nature of Canadian society and the nursing profession's growing recognition of the importance of cross-cultural knowledge, this area of investigation is both timely and relevant. The explanatory model of Arthur Kleinman (1978a,b, 1980, 1984) was the framework which guided the researcher to adopt the phenomenological method to conduct this qualitative study. The phenomenological method is highly suitable for enquiry into the perception and explanation of the health phenomenon.

Background: Radon is a high impact environmental pollutant and is the second leading cause of lung cancer in Canada. Despite the gravity of the health risk, residents have inadequate awareness and have taken minimum preventive actions. The success of any population-level health awareness program is contingent on the views and actions of key decision makers at the household level. People's perceptions of the risk should inform health communication messaging that aims to motivate them to take preventive measures. The objective of this study was to measure the quantifiable associations and predic

The ability to use two ears can substantially improve performance in many circumstances. There are times, however, when the addition of a second ear results in poorer performance (i.e., contra-aural interference). Contra-aural interference is of interest because it is not explained by current auditory models, it has theoretical ramifications, and its understanding could lead to improvements in t

Abstract:
Good time management (TM) skills have been related to both physical and psychological health. This dissertation focused on the development of a content valid measure of TM to allow further exploration of this relationship. Such an instrument, in the future, could allow identification of specific TM skills related to specific health-related behaviors. In order to create this instrument and explore the relationship between it and health related variables, five studies were undertaken to: a) write items to assess all identified TM elements (Study l), b) submit these items to subject matter expert
