Full textThe objective of this research is to determine the nature of the relationship between internationalization and performance (RIP) of firm, subject debated for forty years without conclusive response. To achieve this, we develop a three-dimensional approach with two phases : analytical and interactive analysis. In the first, we focus on the degree of internationalization and the individual impact of each dimension of internationalization to determine the nature of the "parts" of the RIP. In the second, we focus on the process of internationalization and the interactive impact of three dimensions - breadth, depth, dispersion - of internationalization to determine the nature of the "whole" of the RIP. This research, based on a sample of 69 French international enterprises over the period 2001-2007, clarifies the nature of the RIP by providing the following new empirical and theoretical elements: (i) Each dimension of internationalization maintains a curvilinear and three-stage relationship with performance; (ii) The nature of the RIP is mainly governed by the nature of the relationship between the depth of internationalization and performance, thus being curvilinear, with three phases and forming a horizontal S; (iii) The horizontal S-curve relationship between internationalization and performance is moderated by the breadth and the dispersion of internationalization; (iv) The process of internationalization explain firm performance better than the degree of internationalization

Full textThis research aims to present the foundations and theoretical properties of portfolio efficiency based on directional distance measure. We try to com- bine different field of analysis: static and dynamic measurements of financial assets performance and the analysis of the relationship between investor sentiment and profitability of the market index. Performance measures are formulated from the directional distance function Luenberger (1998). This function allows to define portfolio efficiency as well as in a quadratic or in nonlinear framework. It can also be used in both static and dyna- mic context. This distance function is used to measure the performance of hedge funds in the dynamic context. We measure the destination efficiency in mean-variance-skewness framework. We use two risk measures: variance and absolute deviation to measure the efficiency of CAC40 financial as- sets. A study of the relationship between the market index and investor sentiment is proposed at the end of this thesis

Full textWireless intrusion detection system (WIDS) has become a matter of increasing concern in recent years as a crucial element in wireless network security. WIDS monitors 802.11 traffic to identify the intrusive activities, and then alerts the complementary prevention part to combat the attacks. Selecting a reliable WIDS system necessitates inevitably taking into account a credible evaluation of WIDSs performance. WIDS effectiveness is considered the basic factor in evaluating the WIDS performance, thus it receives great attention in this thesis. Most previous experimental evaluations of intrusion detection systems (IDSs) were concerned with the wired IDSs, with an apparent lack of evaluating the wireless IDSs (WIDSs). In this thesis, we try to manipulate three main critiques of most pervious evaluations; lack of comprehensive evaluation methodology, holistic attack classification, and expressive evaluation metrics. In this thesis, we introduce a comprehensive evaluation methodology that covers all the essential dimensions for a credible evaluation of WIDSs performance. The main pivotal dimensions in our methodology are characterizing and generating the evaluation dataset, defining reliable and expressive evaluation metrics, and overcoming the evaluation limitations. Basically, evaluation dataset consists of two main parts; normal traffic (as a background) and malicious traffic. The background traffic, which comprises normal and benign activities in the absence of attacks, was generated in our experimental evaluation tests as real controlled traffic. The second and important part of the dataset is the malicious traffic which is composed of intrusive activities. Comprehensive and credible evaluation of WIDSs necessitates taking into account all possible attacks. While this is operationally impossible, it is necessary to select representative attack test cases that are extracted mainly from a comprehensive classification of wireless attacks. Dealing with this challenge, we have developed a holistic taxonomy of wireless security attacks from the perspective of the WIDS evaluator. The second pivotal dimension in our methodology is defining reliable evaluation metrics. We introduce a new evaluation metric EID (intrusion detection effectiveness) that manipulates the drawbacks of the previously proposed metrics, especially the common drawback of their main notion that leads to measuring a relative effectiveness. The notion of our developed metric EID helps in measuring the actual effectiveness. We also introduce another metric RR (attack recognition rate) to evaluate the ability of WIDS to recognize the attack type. The third important dimension in our methodology is overcoming the evaluation limitations. The great challenge that we have faced in the experimental evaluation of WIDSs is the uncontrolled traffic over the open wireless medium. This uncontrolled traffic affects the accuracy of the measurements. We overcame this problem by constructing an RF shielded testbed to take all the measurements under our control without any interfering from any adjacent stations. Finally, we followed our methodology and conducted experimental evaluation tests of two popular WIDSs (Kismet and AirSnare), and demonstrated the utility of our proposed solutions

Full textThe aim of this thesis is to develop a methodology to analyse assessors' performance in sensory evaluation. The data used are the following : J assessors note P products on d criteria (= variables) the study of the performance is focused on panel's homogeneity. The methodology suggested uses a linear model (analysis of variance) and multidimensionnal data analysis (PCA, classification). The first part describes problematics and data : a state of the art of performance is done. The second part shows some original results. The data are analysed criterion by criterion. Usually, panel homogeneity is measured from residuals (= interaction) of the two ways model : response (of assessor J on product P) = effect of assessor J + effect of product P + residual. This work shows that, in a performance target, it is better to analyse residual of one way model with only assessor effect. This matrix of residual leads to a geometric interpretation which points out a cloud of assessors considered as variables (angles and length are of interest). First, a factorial analysis of this cloud with a contiguity constraint is introduced. Secondly, this cloud is analysed by classification. The approach of the subject leads to : - a "strict" contiguity constraint (i. E. In a class, all the couples of assessors must verify the constraint), - several agregation criteria. The document is illustrated by convenient artificial examples and by true data

Full textThis work brings new data about locomotion of trotter racehorses. The method used, called Equimetrix, is based on the measurements of accelerations at a point near the center of gravity of the horse. The main advantages of that method are an easiness of use in the field and a fast obtention of biomechanical data. The locomotor test presented here allows the quantification of a great number of gait variables. Their reproducibility is shown as well as theirs main factors of influence : speed, age/training status, level of performance. Relationships between physiological and gait data are described, as well as the heritability of locomotor variables

Full textMost transmission systems are based on optical fibers, carrying the traffic at a relatively low energy per bit. However, due to the lack of mature optical buffers, packet switching is still performed electrically. The required Optical-Electrical-Optical (O-E-O) conversions make the switching one of the areas with the fastest-growing energy consumption. A major challenge that must be met in designing future optical networks is curbing their energy consumption. Therefore, within this thesis, we investigate a hybrid optoelectronic switch which consists of an optical switching matrix supplemented with a shared electronic buffer. Performance analysis taking into account different classes of service, packet classifications and switch connectivity methods (WDM and/or SDM channels), shows that, thanks to the established switching strategies, the hybrid switch satisfies the requirements of all the different classes of service in terms of Packet Loss Rate, sustainable system load and latency. Moreover, it significantly reduces the O-E-O conversions compared to commercial off-the-shelf electrical switches, since they occur only for buffered packets. We defend that the hybrid opto-electronic packet switch meets the requirements on quality of service and could be a promising solution to reduce the energy consumption of optical networks

Full textThe urbanization of Information Systems (IS) is an efficient approach to control the complexity of the organization. It strengthens the coherence of IS and aligns it with the business strategy which allows leading to the agility. This approach has significant advantages such as reducing Information Technologies (IT) costs, enhancing the IS position in a competitive environment and ensuring the scalability and sustainability of the IS through the integration of technological innovations. Owing to these factors, the urbanization is considered as a strategic business decision. Thus, its embedding becomes a necessity in order to improve the IS practice. However, apprehending the IS success is a complex challenge due to the lack of global standard assessment criteria of the Urbanized IS (UIS). Commonly, the IS must be appropriate to satisfy user needs and to generate organizational benefits. In this context, the aim of this work is to introduce conceptual framework that enables the evaluation of the IS success after the embedding of urbanization process. This study provides a quantitative empirical validation of the success of UIS and identifies important aspects that influences the perception of the use and net benefits of UIS. The findings present an exploratory validation of urbanization success. The proposed model for the evaluation of UIS has been empirically tested on survey data. The empirical tests highlight the significant causal relationships between UIS constructs such as Quality and use, User Satisfaction and Net Benefits. This work is an ambition attempt to understand and study of the dynamics of change of the existing IS to an UIS
Mai, Hoang Bao An. "Analyse de performance d'un système d'authentification utilisant des codes graphiques." Thesis, Ecole centrale de Lille, 2014. http://www.theses.fr/2014ECLI0017/document.
Full textWe study in this thesis the impact of an authentication system based on 2D graphical codes that are corrupted by a physically unclonable noise such as the one emitted by a printing process. The core of such a system is that a printing process at very high resolution can be seen as a stochastic process and hence produces noise, this is due to the nature of different elements such as the randomness of paper fibers, the physical properties of the ink drop, the dot addressability of the printer, etc. We consider a scenario where the opponent may estimate the original graphical code and tries to reproduce the forged one using his printing process in order to fool the receiver. Our first solution to perform authentication is to use hypothesis testing on the observed memoryless sequences of a printed graphical code considering the assumption that we are able to perfectly model the printing process. The proposed approach arises from error exponent using exponential bounds as a direct application of the large deviation principle. Moreover, when looking for a more practical scenario, we take into account the estimation of the printing process used to generate the graphical code of the opponent, and we see how it impacts the performance of the authentication system. We show that it is both possible to compute the distribution of the probability of non-detection and to compute the average performance of the authentication system when the opponent channel has to be estimated. The last part of this thesis addresses the optimization problem of the printing channel

Full textThis thesis deals with two principal issues. The first one is about performance analysis in the context of systems using training sequences and multi-user systems. Based on an asymptotic analysis, we provide closed-form expressions for the BER and outage probability and prove their accuracies even for usual system dimensions. The second part deals with blind and semi-blind channel estimation techniques. Our contributions are twofold: theoretical and practical. As for our practical outcomes, we provide new approaches that overcome certain difficulties encountered with conventional techniques like the sensitivity to channel order over-modeling for blind methods and the setting of the regularization parameter for semi-blind methods. Concerning our theoretical contributions, we provide a rigorous proof for the quasi-convexity of the asymptotic MSE in regularized semi-blind systems. We also give for the first time well founded arguments that supports the use of lp quasi norms to improve the robustness of subspace based methods

In the same way for local area networks, it may be usefully to study quantitatively their access random discrete event simulation is a solution which can take all the specifications of a network into consideration without any simplification. In the first part, after the evocation of the system modelling and simulation roles, more particularly of the communication systems, we introduce ·the principal criteria that should be studied in order to choose correctly the tools of modelling and simulation. Full textThis thesis explains and clarifies the ways in which responsible performance can increase financial performance for investors. Based on data gathered between 1992 and 2012 and a state-of-the-art KLD scoring system, we demonstrate that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) does not consistently increase the performance of a share portfolio. CSR, when proactively implemented, proves to be a cost granted by investors concerned about their ethical models. Depending on the sector observed, restrictions on irresponsible acts can however improve financial performance. Our research highlights the importance of selecting portfolio assets beforehand. We found that CSR strategies improve financial performance provided that some criteria which restrict managerial opportunism. Our multi-criteria analysis revealed that the expenditure of responsibility is a result of excess cash flow. The weighted average cost of the debt will determine the effectiveness of these strategies on the company's profitability. Finally, we highlight discrepancies in Corporate Social Responsibility reports, according to the ethical level and financial performance of each company. These lexical fields inform the investor of managers’ intentions and hence, allow a better selection of the assets

Full textHigh speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) is an add-on technology for W-CDMA that allows higher downlink data rates and greater base station capacity. With HSDPA, W-CDMA systems, which today are seemingly stuck at 384 kbps, will be able to shift gears and move ahead to so-called 3.5G performance with over 10 Mbps throughput on the downlink. The incorporation of HSDPA in Release 5 of the 3GPP W-CDMA specification is the most significant change on the RF side since Release 99. Advanced techniques such as adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) and hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) are used to modify the coding and physical layer parameters adaptively in response to the instantaneous channel quality, thus enabling gains in spectral efficiency and data rates. On the other hand, such improvements also bring a higher complexity degree in the evaluation of the radio subsystem performance. This evaluation is crucial for operators who are willing to provide value-added services with rich multimedia contents. This thesis aims at implementing and simulating a radio access network on a real geographic area using the HSDPA features. Results show that such features enable to satisfy the quality of service requirements needed to support the new data-oriented services.

Full textSatellite communication systems are used in the context of broadcasting, navigation, rescue, and disaster relief since they allow the provision of services over a wide coverage area. However, this coverage area is limited by the masking effect caused by obstacles that block the Line-Of-Sight (LOS) link between the satellite and a terrestrial user. The masking effect becomes more severe in case of low satellite elevation angles or when the user is indoor. To address this issue, Hybrid Satellite-Terrestrial Cooperative Systems (HSTCSs) have been proposed. In an HSTCS, the mobile user can exploit the diversity advantages by receiving signals from both satellite and terrestrial components. Fixed or mobile gap-fillers are used to relay the satellite signal. Most of satellites broadcasting systems have been implemented using fixed gap-fillers while mobile gap-fillers are needed in emergency cases when the fixed infrastructure is not available. In emergency scenarios (e.g., fire, earthquake, flood and explosion), the existing terrestrial infrastructure has been destroyed. So, an HSTCS is appropriate for transmitting the information between the rescuers and the central office. This allows the rescuers to operate efficiently. In particular, a fast and flexible implementation is needed and this could be provided by deploying mobile gap fillers (vehicle or mobile handheld). Recently, the topic of HSTCSs has gain interest in the research community. Several cooperative scenarios and transmission techniques have been proposed and studied. However, most of existing approaches only provide a performance analysis based on simulation results and the analytical expression of the exact Symbol Error Probability (SEP) is generally not provided. This dissertation focuses on the performance analysis of HSTCSs. The exact closed-form outage probability and SEP of Selective Decode-and-Forward (SDF) transmission scheme with and without relay selection are derived for both M-ary phase shift keying (MPSK) and M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (MQAM) schemes. This analytical SEP helps in designing and dimensioning HSTCSs. Our results are applicable to both fixed and mobile relaying techniques. Another part of the dissertation is dedicated to synchronization issues (time, frequency shifting/spreading). The mobility of users induces a Doppler spread in the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) signal that destroys the orthogonality of subcarriers. The loss of orthogonality produces Inter-subCarrier Interference (ICI) and hence a degradation of the system performance in terms of SEP. In this case, we present the conditions in which this degradation can be compensated for by an increase in the Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) at the transmitter side. The result depends on both the modulation scheme and the speed of the mobile users

Full textIn biomechanics, the modelling of the human body is a major stake to estimate, in an imposed task, muscular effort and subjacent metabolic expenditure. In parallel, the evaluation of physical abilities in sport medicine needs to characterize the athletes' motion and their interactions with the external environment, in order to compare physiological measurements more objectively. These two orientations are based mainly on the activities of cycling. The objective of this work is thus to study the limits of the mechanical analysis of the performance on ergocycle using inverse dynamics technique. These limits depend on the measuring instruments and on the adequacy between the data input of the cycling model and the data measured. The evaluations of the uncertainty of the quantities used in the calculation of the intersegment effort allow to estimate the consequences of them on the precision of each mechanical parameter used in the analysis of the performance

Their aim, owing to the mobilization of participants intelligence, consists in improving the quality of products, the productivity and costs, and the satisfaction of participants which corollary is the decline of absenteeism and turnover. The impact of quality circles on the performances of unities in which they are grafted has been rigorously studied, more particular in the United States. These studies show that, whatever the methodology used, one find out sometimes performance improvements, sometimes almost nothing. Therefore, in some cases quality circles induce performance improvements and in others they don't. The aim of this research was precisely to determine the profile and characteristics of the context in which quality circles have high performances. An exploratory study based on 25 firms belonging to different activity sectors, and an analysis of collected data on a sample of 206 quality circles in industrial environment show that the performances of a circle are high in the quality circles comprising 5 to 12 members, an age ranging from six months to five years, and they belong to firms having the following characteristics : a thorough preparation of organization according to quality circles approach, an active support and middle management involvement, a commitment and visible support of the top management, a participative management. .

For real-time video streaming traffic, we derive an analytical form for an important Quality-of-Service (QoS) metric, the packet outage rate, and utilize the model for dimensioning. For HTTP adaptive video streaming traffic, we propose and evaluate other QoS metrics such as the mean video bit rate, the deficit rate and the buffer surplus, so as to find the good trade-off between video resolution and playback smoothness. We study by simulation the impacts of some key parameters of the system. We show that using smaller chunk durations, fewer video coding rates and round-robin scheduling may provide a smoother video playback but decrease the mean video resolution. We also propose to adapt the number of chunks downloaded in an HTTP request so that each HTTP request has the same data volume. Finally, we apply machine learning techniques to analyze the correlation between system characteristics and the quality of experience (QoE) of users

Full textDue to politico-economic and socio-demographic pressures, players in the medico-social industry must both industrialize their services and continue to ensure high standard care. We define medico-social home care for people losing their autonomy as an endeavour to do with the helped person and encourage them to do as often as possible. This thesis aims at determining which socio-organizational conditions must be met for managers, carers and technologists to design together ICT-assisted (information and communication technology) plans with a view to durability and respect to professional skills. From an ethnological analysis and a description of the care process, we shall highlight a tripartite configuration, involving the helped person, the carer and the latter’s manager. This pattern enables us to understand the interdependent connections between all categories of players through three different conceptions – domestic, industrial, considerate. Next, we shall describe how relationships are conceived within the organization of an increasingly rationalized work and define a specific skill – the controlled considerate attitude. After setting this analytical pattern, we shall apply it to the innovation through technological tool design process, taking two examples of experiment follow-up. Finally, from the angle of technico-organisational plans, we will study the change from a domestic to an industrial conception and from an industrial to a considerate conception of home care
