Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the influence of intrapreneurship on improving village credit institution (VCI) performance with the work spirit as a mediation variable. The study was conducted at 108 village credit institutions in Karangasem Regency, Bali Province, Indonesia. Respondents were representatives of the management of village credit institutions (heads, treasurers, and secretaries). Sampling was done by proportional random sampling. A quantitative approach was used. Data were analyzed by the partial least square with SmartPLS 2.0 M3 program. The results found that intrapreneurship had a significant positive effect on the VCI performance. In addition, intrapreneurship had a significant positive effect on the work spirit, work spirit had a significant positive effect on the VCI performance, and work spirit significantly mediated the effect of intrapreneurship on VCI performance. Findings described the relationships among intrapreneurship, work spirit, and VCI performance in Karangasem Regency. VCI performance is more influenced by the work spirit than intrapreneurship with a coefficient of 0.645; VCI performance is partially influenced by intrapreneurship with a coefficient of 0.383; work spirit is also partially influenced by intrapreneurship with a coefficient of 0.353. Work spirit with a coefficient of 0.227 can act as partial mediation of the VCI performance in Karangasem Regency, Bali Province, Indonesia.

Abstract:
Research and development (R&D) investment affects firms’ growth and reflects their investment energy. However, it is recorded as an expense in financial statements, according to generally accepted accounting principles (e.g., International Financial Statements Standards). This study examines whether firms’ R&D investment has a positive effect on their performance, when they engage in corporate social responsibility. The author focuses on firms that have earned corporate social responsibility awards from Global Views Magazine, Common Wealth Magazine, and the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy in order to measure firms’ levels of corporate social responsibility engagement. Tobin’s Q is used as a proxy for firm performance. Because corporate social responsibility engagement is not mandatory in Taiwan, the Heckman two-stage process is used to control for an endogeneity bias. In the first stage, logit regression is employed, using a dummy variable as a proxy for a firm’s social responsibility engagement. In the second stage, the impact of corporate social responsibility on firm value is estimated by regressing Tobin’s Q on various governance and firm characteristics and on a dummy variable for social responsibility engagement. Based on all public traded companies in Taiwan for the period 2005 – 2014, and after controlling for an endogeneity bias, it is found that R&D investment is positively associated with Tobin’s Q, but only when firms engage in corporate social responsibility. Therefore, an investment strategy that meets corporate social responsibility objectives benefits firm performance. The empirical results provide policy implications for firm R&D investment and corporate social responsibility implementation.

Abstract:
Pay for performance can have a positive or a negative influence on actual performance. The aim of this study was to give an explanation for this contradiction. We demonstrated that the variability of the payment can act as a stressor. According to the transactional model of stress, the influence on performance depends on the subjective interpretation of the variability as challenge or threat. Therefore we manipulated the degree of variability. The data showed decreasing performance for participants who preferred less-variable payments. They performed better under a less-variable rather than more-variable payment. The participants who preferred more-variable payment schemes showed the opposite pattern. These participants showed a higher performance under a more-variable rather than less-variable payment scheme.

Abstract:
Social concern is strongly emphasized in Islam. There are the concepts of khalifah fil ard, hablum min nass, tawazun in Islam which demonstrate the Islamic approach to concern for social issues. The purpose of this study is to obtain evidence pertaining to whether social concern in Islamic banks has an impact on improving their performance and the trust of customers. The research sample is 11 Islamic commercial banks in Indonesia. The observation period was from 2009 to 2017. The results of this study show that social activities carried out by banks in the form of qardh financing, and the distribution of qardh al-hassan and zakah funds, were able to increase customer trust in the banks. This increase in trust is evidenced by the positive influence of channeling social funds on increasing debt and temporary syirkah funds. However, the distribution of social funds does not have a positive impact on the amount of funding channeled by banks. As a result, the bank's income from the disbursement of finance cannot increase, and the impact of the bank's profitability does not increase. So, it has been proven empirically that the distribution of social funds does not have a positive impact on the amount of financing and profitability as measured by ROA and ROE.

Abstract:
The role of SMEs in Indonesia in supporting the economy in Indonesia is quite significant. In the post-1997 crisis in Indonesia, SMEs can prove that this sector could become the foundation for the national economy. Number of SMEs also continued to increase from year to year. SMEs in developing countries is almost always the biggest economic activity in number and ability to absorb labor. Development of SMEs as one of supporting economic growth must be accompanied by the development of human resources in various aspects. HR competency development of SMEs important in order to create a quality workforce to reach corporate goals. The current study focused on SMEs Batik in Banyumas, was to examine the impact of human resource competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) on company’s performance in SME Batik Banyumas. Research conducted on 65 respondents in Banyumas showed that HR competencies affect the performance of SMEs. Skills have significant effect on the performance of SMEs. However, knowledge and abilities does not effect the performance of SMEs. The owners of SMEs Batik should pay attention to the importance of human resource competencies to improve their performance. It is also important to improve their skills through training and workshops related to batik. Owners of batik needs to involve employees in their knowledge and skills in the production process of batik that can help increase employee and company performance in the future.

Abstract:
Abstract Background and study aims Adenoma detection rate (ADR) is an important measure of colonoscopy quality, as are polyp, advanced ADR, and adenocarcinoma detection rates. We investigated whether performance report cards improved these outcome measures. Patients and methods Endoscopists were given report cards comparing their detection rates to the institutional mean on an annual basis. Detection rates were evaluated at baseline, 1 year after report cards (Year 1), and 2 years after report cards (Year 2). Endoscopists were unaware of the study and received no other interventions. The primary outcome was ADR and secondary outcomes were polyp detection rate (PDR), advanced ADR, and adenocarcinoma detection rate. Multivariate regression was performed to adjust for temporal trends in patient, endoscopists, and procedural factors. Results Seventeen physicians performed 3,118 screening colonoscopies in patients with positive FOBT or family history of colon cancer. The ADR increased from 34.5 % (baseline) to 39.4 % (Year 1) and 41.2 % (Year 2) (P = 0.0037). The PDR increased from 45 % (baseline) to 48.8 % (Year 1) and 51.8 % (Year 2) (P = 0.011). There was no significant improvement in advanced ADR or adenocarcinoma detection rates. On multivariate analysis, the ADR increased by 22 % in Year 1 (P = 0.03) and 30 % in Year 2 (P = 0.008). Among physicians with a baseline ADR < 25 %, improvement in ADR was even greater, increasing 2.2 times by the end of the study (P = 0.004). Improvements in ADR were not correlated with specialty although gastroenterologists were 52 % more likely to find an adenoma than general surgeons. Conclusions Annual performance report cards increased adenoma detection rates, especially among physicians with low ADR < 25 %.

Abstract:
Purpose This study aims to examine the association between the adoption of corporate governance practices and operational performance in companies listed on the Brazilian Stock Exchange. Design/methodology/approach The sample comprises the 80 largest companies in market value present in the Brazil Stocks Index in 2014. Principal component and cluster analyses techniques are used to evaluate performance and capital structure, and a regression model is applied to identify the relationship between key variables. Findings The findings show that the incidence of a high level of corporate governance in Brazil occurs among smaller companies with less desirable operational performance, rather than the biggest (blue chip) companies. Using a regression model with the return on assets as a dependent variable, a dummy variable for “governance”, and the size of the companies as a control variable, the authors find no association with good practices of corporate governance and operational performance for the companies in the sample. Practical implications Newer companies are more likely to exhibit a higher level of corporate governance because of the actions of foreign investors who demand the adoption of stronger corporate governance practices. Although there is demand from wealthy local institutional investors, many older traditional firms could still restructure to achieve higher levels of governance, especially in the case of emerging economies with less mature stock exchanges Originality/value This study contributes to the recent debates in the literature by identifying evidence for an association between operational performance and corporate governance rather than a causal relationship.

Abstract:
The transient increase in torque of an electrically evoked twitch following a voluntary contraction is called postactivation potentiation (PAP). Phosphorylation of myosin regulatory light chains is the most accepted mechanism explaining the enhanced electrically evoked twitch torque. While many authors attribute voluntary postactivation performance enhancement (PAPE) to the positive effects of PAP, few actually confirmed that contraction was indeed potentiated using electrical stimulation (twitch response) at the time that PAPE was measured. Thus, this review aims to investigate if increases in voluntary performance after a conditioning contraction (CC) are related to the PAP phenomenon. For this, studies that confirmed the presence of PAP through an evoked response after a voluntary CC and concurrently evaluated PAPE were reviewed. Some studies reported increases in PAPE when PAP reaches extremely high values. However, PAPE has also been reported when PAP was not present, and unchanged/diminished performance has been identified when PAP was present. This range of observations demonstrates that mechanisms of PAPE are different from mechanisms of PAP. These mechanisms of PAPE still need to be understood and those studying PAPE should not assume that regulatory light chain phosphorylation is the mechanism for such enhanced voluntary performance. Novelty The occurrence of PAP does not necessarily mean that the voluntary performance will be improved. Improvement in voluntary performance is sometimes observed when the PAP level reaches extremely high values. Other mechanisms may be more relevant than that for PAP in the manifestation of acute increases in performance following a conditioning contraction.

Abstract:
High-stakes accountability has teachers and adminis- trators across the nation searching for proven strategies to ensure continual improvement. Additionally, establishing processes that promote shared leadership and responsibility for student achievement is of great interest to educators. Furthermore, motivating stu- dents to perform at high levels has become increasing- ly challenging. Jenkins (1994) advocates that many students’ greatest problems in school are related to irresponsibility, not inability. Hwang (1995) reports that the apathetic attitude of American students is profound. The effects of this complacent outlook and lack of motivation is far reaching and necessitates a new direction in order for schools to reach their goals. For the schools in Carter County, Kentucky, a rural district of approximately 5,000 students, goal setting has proven to be the answer.

Abstract:
This study investigated the effects of fatigue on performance quality induced by a prolonged musical performance. Ten participants prepared 10 min of repertoire for their chosen wind instrument that they played three times consecutively. Prior to the performance and within short breaks between performances, researchers collected heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, blood lactate concentration, rating of perceived exertion (RPE), and rating of anxiety. All performances were audio recorded and later analysed for performance errors. Reliability in assessing performance errors was assessed by typical error of measure (TEM) of 15 repeat performances. Results indicate all markers of physical stress significantly increased by a moderate to large amount (4.6 to 62.2%; d = 0.50 to 1.54) once the performance began, while heart rate, respirations, and RPE continued to rise by a small to large amount (4.9 to 23.5%; d = 0.28 to 0.93) with each performance. Observed changes in performance between performances were well in excess of the TEM of 7.4%. There was a significant small (21%, d = 0.43) decrease in errors after the first performance; after the second performance, there was a significant large increase (70.4%, d = 1.14). The initial increase in physiological stress with corresponding decrease in errors after the first performance likely indicates “warming up,” while the continued increase in markers of physical stress with dramatic decrement in performance quality likely indicates fatigue. Musicians may consider the relevance of physical fitness to maintaining performance quality over the duration of a performance.

Abstract:
The article presents a method of creating a web application based on SPA technology (one-page web application), as a method of increasing the speed of web applications based on the use of modern frameworks, tools and tools for developing client and server part of a one-page web application. One-page web applications are web application technologies that consist of a single web page that interacts with the user, dynamically generating the current page rather than downloading entire new pages from the server. Based on this technique, we developed our own web application and based on it we determined the response rate, which is less than the optimal response rate for single-page web applications. An explanation is given as to which solutions increase response speed and performance in a one-page web application, and why creating a multi-page site is not the best idea. Abstract:
According to Indonesia Association of Service Provider (APJII) survey in 2014, the internet user in Indonesia increased up to around 88 million. This number expresses that the use of the internet to seek business franchise information will increase as well. The increase of internet using should be followed by the quality of franchisor's website. The franchisor's website will relate to system quality, information quality and service quality (DeLone and McLean, 2003). This research uses SEM LISREL to see the loading factors of each indicator impact in variables and website quality variables impact to intention to purchase franchise. Abstract:
Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)/Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and PVDF/Organo-modified layered silicates (OMLSs) nano-composites were prepared by phase inversion technique. Maleic anhydride grafted PVDF (PVDF-MAH), were used to fine tune the interface. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) were used to characterize the nanocomposites. Elastic modulus and creep resistance of the PVDF nanocomposites were evaluated according to ASTM D-638. The results showed that both CNTs and OMLSs were good candidates to reinforce the PVDF and the addition of PVDF-MAH enhanced the interface between nanoparticles and PVDF, leading to further increase of mechanical property.

Abstract:
AbstractCounseling is a critical component of audiological care and when implemented purposefully can yield multiple benefits for patients. Professional guidelines indicate that counseling is within the scope of practice for audiologists, yet research has shown that audiologists feel unprepared and are not comfortable providing adjustment counseling. This may be due to inadequate counseling training in audiology graduate programs. To identify ways to address this counseling training gap, this study examined the use of performance feedback to increase counseling skills among audiology graduate students. In this study, participants (n = 5) were recorded during clinical session encounters, and recordings were coded for time spent counseling. A licensed clinical psychologist reviewed the recordings and provided individual performance feedback to participants over the course of the study. Time spent counseling increased by the end of the study, although improvement varied across participants. Results suggest that performance feedback can be used as a method to increase counseling skills in audiology students. However, factors, such as participant motivation, feedback timing, and prerequisite counseling skills, may influence response to feedback. More research is needed on ways to maximize gains from feedback, as well as other methods to improve counseling skills in audiology students.

Abstract:
This study aimed to examine the effect of variable X, namely Accounting Information System Inventory and Y is the Internal Control Inventory of Toko Besi dan Bangunan Serba Guna at Ajibarang. Based on the research results show that the Accounting Information System Inventory (X) is categorized either by value 3.79. Internal Control Inventory (Y) is also said to be good with a value of 4.11.Effect of Accounting Information System for Internal Control Inventory based research methods, namely, 1) Correlation, based on calculations between variables X and Y has a strong relationship that is equal to 0.750, 2) Regression, based on the data through a simple regression of Y = 0.327 + 0.895X which means each an increase of Accounting Information Systems Inventory role in Internal Control Inventory amounted to 56.30%, while the remaining 43.70% due to the influence of others. At the end, the authors expressed conclusions and suggestions to the company as an input. Although the Accounting Information Systems Inventory is already done well, the system implemented should always follow the conditions that occur at any time and be a directed preparation. Also, Internal Control Inventory is already good and sufficient, therefore, it needs to be maintained and enhanced in order to generate a better and more efficient Internal Control Inventory.

Abstract:
This paper mainly studies the change rules of interior ballistic performance under different loaded conditions, especially the maximum pressure and the muzzle velocity. There are six parameters affect the performance. The results show that, changing one of the all parameters, the maximum pressure and velocity will be increased with the increase of propellant shape coefficient χ; increased with the charge increases; increased as the propellant force increases; decreased with the chamber volume becoming bigger; increased with the engraving pressure increases; the maximum pressure increases while the velocity decreases with the mass of the projectile increases. In order to improve the interior ballistic performance, these loaded conditions must be paid attention.
