Beliefs of ability to learn are identified as a key dimension of students’ epistemological beliefs. These beliefs can range from the ability to learn is innate, unchanging to the ability to learn is not innate, changing and improvable. These beliefs are acknowledged as the principal predictor for students’ effort to learn, learning strategies and motivational behaviour in school learning. The current study discovered the nature of Pakistani science students’ beliefs about ability to learn. The qualitative approach was chosen and students were purposefully selected from two sections of 9th grad

Nearly 15 years after 9/11, it is time to grapple with the way in which imperatives of preemption have made their way into routine security practice and bureaucratic operations. As a growing literature in security studies and political geography has argued, preparing for catastrophe, expecting the worst, and scripting disasters are central elements of contemporary, speculative security culture. One of the most-discussed findings of the 9/11 Commission Report was that US security services had insufficiently deployed their imagination to foresee and preempt the attacks. This article discusses how the notion of performance provides impetus for the design of interactive digital environments. These environments can ultimately be regarded as user-spaces; a condition which replaces the ‘fixed’ art-object with a configuration of interactions. Our understanding of space, as suggested by Lefevbre (2001), defines the ‘inhabitant’ as a full participant, a user, a performer of space. What is at play when the installation artist designs environments that invite performative exploration? The issue of improvised performance in the inhabiting of installation spaces is expos

A substantial period of time has been spent developing rigorous quantitative scientific approaches to inform medical practice (evidence-based practice). While this process has been important for many medical breakthroughs, and continues to play a critical role in medical and scientific research, it was felt to cause a medical shift away from the individual patient, as practitioners focussed more on the method of practice than the person themselves. However, following this period when a preponderance of attention was paid to quantitative studies, the tide has now turned back to integrating this
