Full textThis work presents the synthesis and characterization of novel isoxazolines and isoxazoles derivatives aiming the development of electronic materials field, their derivatization in liquid crystalline polymethacrylates, in tertiary amines and perylene derivatives. Isoxazolines were synthesized by [3+2]1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction between nitrile oxides and alkenes. After this the isoxazolines were oxidized using MnO2 to give isoxazoles 5a-c. The 3-aryl-5-hydroxymethyl-isoxazoles 37a-c were obtained by [3+2]1,3-dipolar cycloaddition between oximoyl chlorides and propagyl alcohol, using CuI as catalyst. Thermal properties of synthesized compounds were analyzed by polarized optic microscopy (POM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), spectroscopic properties were analyzed by UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy and fluorescence spectroscopy. Present thesis is divided in four chapters. First chapter explains about synthesis and characterization of liquid crystalline polymethacrylates 10a-d and 11, where the mesogenic unity is composed for 3,5-diaryl-isoxazle 7a, which bears an alkyl chain formed by eleven carbons as spacer group between the rigid core and the polymethacrylate chain. In this chapter were evaluated how molar weight (Mn) affects the thermal behaviour and also the thermal behaviour of side chain polymeric liquid crystals (SCPLC) are compared to a main chain polymeric liquid crystal (MCPLC). Results show a higher stability in the mesophase of polymerised compounds, with maintenance of lamellar mesophases showed by the precursors. In the second chapter synthesis of different 3,5-diaryl-isoxazoles (5b, 7b and 7c) is discussed, these isoxazoles were coupled to amines (piperidine, morpholine, diphenylamine and phenothiazine) by Büchwald-Hartwig reaction to afford desired compounds 13a-k. Four amines were tested to study their electronic influence, also two alkyl chains were tested to study the effect in thermal behaviour and processability. The observed photophysical behaviour of compounds 13a-k corroborates with our expectations, based in literature for donating and acceptor groups. In the third chapter the work done in the University of Hull – UK, during the Science without Borders internship, in this work synthesis of perylene derivatives bearing isoxazole group was attempted aiming production of dyes with interesting electronic properties for use in organic photovoltaic materials. The fourth and last chapter discusses synthesis of 3-aryl-5-hydroximethyl-isoxazoles 37a-c via cycloaddition reaction between oximoyl chlorides and propargyl alcohol for synthesise a novel series of low molecular weight liquid crystals, in this chapter is also observed the influence of steric hindrance in regioselectivity of cycloaddition.

Full textIn the last few years, the design and characterization of novel materials exhibiting high optical nonlinearities is the subject of a fast-growing interest because of their potential application in various fields, from biology to photonics. Two-photon absorption processes, for example, have been used for optical limiting, three-dimensional microfabrication, optical data storage and fluorescence imaging. In this work we investigate the two-photon absorption in organic and organometallic molecules, aiming at the understanding of aspects related to the nonlinear absorption. The two-photon absorption spectra of perylene derivatives, phenyl-diphenylamine derivatives and Platinum Acetylide Complexes were measured using the Z-scan technique with ultrashort pulses. For perylene derivatives, using the white-light continuum Z-scan, we were able to observe subtle structures in nonlinear spectra, which are related to two-photon allowed states in the UV region. Such transitions were confirmed using density functional theory. The two-photon absorption spectrum of Pt-acetylene complexes revealed bands around 600 nm, with relatively high two-photon absorption cross-section in the order of 1000 GM. The broad transparence windows exhibited by these compounds in the visible make them promising candidates for optical limiting devices assisted by two-photon absorption. Finally, the phenyl-biphenylamine samples exhibited a combination between effects from the phenyl-biphenylamine group and the azoaromatic groups, which can be explored in tri-dimensional optical storage devices.

Perillae Fructus、Perillae Caulis、Perillae Folium are traditional medicinal herbs. In previously research, abundant phenolic compounds, triterpenoids, and flavonoids were characterized from the leaf of P. frutescensare. These ingredients have been shown to have antioxidant, anti-aging, and anti-allergic effects. Perilla seeds is an important source of perilla oil. Perilla aldehyde in perilla oil can prevent cardiovascular disease and reduce triglycerides. Perilla stems can help to relieve pregnant discomforts and fetus, and can be used in health foods for improve memory and vision. Perilla leaves are also edible foods with high nutritional value. Perilla leaves, perilla seeds, and perilla stems are three traditional Chinese medicines with different medicinal use. The chemical composition should be different. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore the chemical composition of different parts of perilla, and to compare the compositional differences. The results showed that 75% methanol was the best extraction solvent and heating reflux extraction was the best extraction method. The crude extracts of perilla leaves, perilla seeds and perilla stalks were subjected to high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Rosmarinic acid was found as the main chemical component measured at wavelengths 254 and 330 nm in three species. Then, by liquid chromatography-high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC-MS) analysis, nineteen compounds were found from the leaves of the perilla leaves. Among them, thirteen compounds were identified. Twelve compounds were found from the stalks of the perilla, and five compounds were identified. Sixteen compounds were found from the perilla seeds, seven compounds were identified. Rosmarinic acid, apigenin, luteolin, and luteolin-7-glucoside are the same chemical constituents. The main components of perillae seeds are rosmarinic acid, luteolin and apigenin. The main components of perillae stems are rosmarinic acid and trace amounts of caffeic acid. The main components of perilla leaves are rosmarinic acid,luteolin-7-O-diglucuronide,apigenin-7-O-diglucuronide and Luteolin-7-O-glucuronidel.
