Abstract:
Periocular malignancies represent between 5% and 10% of all types of skin cancers. The incidence of eyelid (but also the periocular located) malignancies seems to differ in distribution across the continents. The incidence of eyelid tumours (but also the periocular located tumours) in a predominantly white population determined that BCC is the most common malignant periocular eyelid tumour in whites. This finding has been replicated consistently throughout the literature, with BCC representing 85–95% of all eyelid malignancies, SCC representing 3.4 - 12.6%, Seb Ca representing 0.6 - 10.2%, and

We analysed several morphological characters of 84 road-killed D. caspius individuals from different areas of southern Romania. Most presented asymmetries in the total number of temporal scales, the temporal row and the periocular and labial scales. Almost a quarter of snakes had scars, located especially on the head and tail; many individuals had multiple injuries. The lowest rate of individuals with scars was found in the area with the least anthropogenic impact (Danube Gorge). This finding suggests that, in other areas in Romania, the species is threatened and lives in less optimal conditio

Periocular scarring following surgery or trauma is of great aesthetic and functional concern and is difficult to predict. In today’s era, with increasing scientific knowledge and technological advances, both physicians and their patients are highly concerned with minimizing scar appearance as a rising number of patients feel disappointed with their scars and are frequently seeking help for functional and aesthetic improvement. Although various non-surgical and surgical treatment strategies are available it is still difficult to improve excessive scarring. Thus, the importance of thorough knowl

Abstract There is mounting epidemiologic, histologic, experimental and therapeutic evidence that MALT (mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue) lymphomas may be related to chronic infections. While H. pylori infection-initiated MALT lymphomas of the stomach are now well documented, only recently has evidence for infectious sources of MALT lymphomas of the intestine (Campylobacter), skin (Borrelia), and the eye (Chlamydia) been reported. Chlamydia psittaci has been implicated in ocular MALT lymphoma in 2 reports (Ferreri et al, JNCI, 96(8):586–594, 2004 and Yeung et al, Cornea, 23:71–75, 2004). In th

Microscopically, the eyelids showed ulcers, necrosis and serocellular crusts, severe hyperplasia of keratinocytes with eosinophilic intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies (Bollinger's bodies), bacterial colonies of gram-positive coccoid morphology and PAS-positive septate and 45° branching hyphae. The microbiological study identified the colonies as Staphylococcus spp. and Aspergillus fumigatus, respectively. Using

Background Intraorbital lesions associated with symptomatic trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias (TACs) are rarely reported. We present a case of orbital metastatic leiomyosarcoma, presenting with chronic paroxysmal hemicrania-like headache. Case report A 43-year-old man presented with a severe paroxysmal headache in his left periocular and frontal area for a year. The attacks occurred 10–12 times per day, lasting 10–15 minutes with ipsilateral lacrimation and conjunctival injection. Neurological examination and brain MRI without contrast were unremarkable. Abstract Endocrine mucin-producing sweat gland carcinoma (EMPSGC) is a rare indolent tumor with predilection for periocular skin of elderly women. Although recurrences may occur, metastases are uncommon with EMPSGC. We present a case of EMPSGC of the eyelid as a presenting feature of invasive carcinoma of the breast in a male patient. A 71-year-old male presented with a right eyelid mass from the past 6 months. A wide excision biopsy with intraoperative frozen section margin control and reconstruction was done. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry (IHC) were suggestive of EMPSGC. On systemi
