Lee, Kil-Ho. "Les "revues intellectuelles". La construction sociale d'un espace intermédiaire." Paris 10, 2009. http://www.theses.fr/2009PA100139.
Full textThe « intellectual reviews » could not be defined with common criteria, accepted by all. They are the issue of struggles for various social agents who claim to play a specific role in the very existence of this form of publication. All these agents are not homogeneous in nature and volume of capital they hold, but they share the same belief in that these « intellectual reviews » play an important role in the evolution of intellectual production, role considered as irreducible in the sphere of cultural activities that other forms of publication can’t replace. Thus, in this perspective that sees the « intellectual reviews » as a space of belief, the central axis of this research is how and in which context such belief shapes the construction of a raison d’être. By crossing the field surveys, this research emphasises on the involved agents’ strategies – ways of justification, expressions of this belief –, and on their intellectual and social conditions. It aims at highlighting the logic, inherent in the space of « intellectual reviews », and its effects on the intellectual field

Full textIn the seventeenth century, the "newspaper" appears as a vehicle for spreading scientific in the eighteenth century, he says certification functions of scientific discovery. The journal then becomes a practice of science. Its place in science, technology and medicine based on several factors: the design of an experimental science, the need to maintain the path of scientific discoveries, the need for validation and the need to obtain exclusive discoveries. The researcher wrote to disseminate the knowledge he has acquired and is for those of his colleagues working in the same field as him. The advent of information and communication technologies then mark a major step in access to specialized information. The printed journals that represent the preferred mode of dissemination of knowledge are strong competition from other media dissemination, and the electronic journal archives open. In what context, electronic distribution she made her appearance? It was not until 1998 that the integration of electronic journals and becomes effective mass through the online periodical collections of most major scientific publishers and learned societies. Easy access to electronics has changed the landscape of scientific publishing and magazine paper has seen his side to an electronic journal that has found its audience and readership. What are the uses of electronic journals by researchers? Have they changed since the advent of electronic journals? The disciplines they are a factor of integration or non-integration in information practices? What is at stake for the dissemination of knowledge are the electronic journals? Are we witnessing a substitution or coexistence? To know precisely the current reality of the integration of electronic journals in the information practices of researchers in engineering, a qualitative approach was chosen. It will include the main obstacles to development of other material spread and changes that produce these materials in the practices of the research community. Then there is the question on a possible influence of researchers on these new forms of scientific publishing and compare them with other changes in arrangements for the dissemination of research older

Full textThe main purpose of this work is the study of parametried families and the surch of fundamental units of these fields. We give the Voronoï algorithm expansion of two families of complex cubic fields, introduced by C. Levesque and G. Rhin and so we obtain a fundamental unit of these fields. We compare this expansion with Jacobi-Perron algorithm expansion and notice that they are closely connected for these two families. Then we proceed to several generalizations. First, we generalize these families to parametrized families of fields with degree higher than three. We study an expansion by the Jacobi-Perron algorithm and so we obtain an unit of these fields. Next, we give a generalization of Voronoï algorithm, which consists in the search of minimal points. We give a more general definition of minimal points and propose a new method to compute these points. Then, we conjecture sevral expansions of quartic numbers fields of unit rank 2. In the last part of this work, we describe an algorithm which allows us to compute the Jacobi-Perron algorithm (and particularly the continued fraction algorithm) expansion of algebraic numbers, using only integers

Full textThis thesis is dedicated to the periodic vehicle routing problem when applied to the transportation of valuable goods. Specifics constraints have to be defined to ensure the security of the convoy. The periodic vehicle routing problems with time spread constraints on services (PVRPTS) is defined and a mathematical model is given. The goal is to serve a set of customers over several days such that their visit times differ by a minimum amount. The depicted model is discussed and two constructive heuristics are designed and assessed.A Multi-start iterated local search (MS-ILS) is proposed to solve this problem. The results shows that the method outperform the two previous heuristics. For the sake of comparison with previous approaches, the MS-ILS is evaluated on a more classical problem : the vehicle routing problem with soft time windows (VRPSTW). The method proves to be very competitive, producing new best known solutions. The MS-ILS is then adapted to solve the consistent vehicle routing problem (ConVRP). Unlike the PVRPTS, the goal of the ConVRP is to deliver customers with intermittent demands with regularity in terms of service times and drivers. The method demonstrate his flexibility and produce good results. Finally, the developments performed at Nexxtep Technologies are depicted. They encompass commercial-software design and implementation of the proposed methods

Full textTrees in urban areas provide many benefits, even though they often face difficult living conditions. Over the years, these issues have led to various research projects. The aim of this project was to conduct a census of urban forestry scientific publications research, to present a portrait of the situation of municipalities in terms of urban forestry, and to identify the urban forestry research needs of Canadian municipalities of 5000 inhabitants or more. The first objective was achieved by using several databases of scientific articles and keywords in urban forestry. A national survey enabled us to achieve the other two goals. The census we conducted concerning urban forestry publications since 1800 showed, as in the scientific literature in general but even more significantly for our topic, an increase in their number in recent years. The census also revealed that the research concerns were mainly about the effects of trees on human health and air quality. The identification of research needs that we conducted with managers of green spaces showed that there was still room for research in this area. Municipalities want to know, among other things, which tree species are adapted to the urban environment, what are the effects of trees on water runoff, on human health and on urban infrastructures. Moreover, we found that there was a lack of knowledge transfer between researchers and managers of green spaces and that the researches conducted do not meet the expressed expectations of theirs. This work has helped to identify the research needs of Canadian municipalities and will allow researchers to better define research priorities in urban forestry.

Full textThe question of measurement and analysis of schooling effects takes place in the development of public policy evaluation, through the construction of quantitative indicators. We call schooling effects the measurable influence of an institution's characteristics on an output indicator. More precisely, we use multilevel models to link data we have at the institutionnal level to output indicators at the individual level. In the first chapter, we study the effect of universities characteristics on the earnings of their graduates by considering the analysis of the relation between quality of education and earnings. We find two effects : student get higher wages when they graduate from a more vocationnally oriented university but students graduating from universities where the student population is less favoured get lower wages. In the second chapter, we discuss the relevance of a modulation of the government fundings to universities based on job market integration criteria. We know that the individual characteristics of graduates are the main component affecting their integration. If we take into account the state of the job market, and the composition of the disciplines taught in institutions, it is hard to detect a specific effect of a university, and so to rank them according to such a criteria. In the third chapter, we propose to add to the human capital theory a grasp of social capital. We provide an illustration of this concept in the framework of scientific production by researchers in economics. By building indicators describing the publication habits within the institutions, we extend the question of schooling effects to the field of scientific research

Full textThus well known as Assesment and Management devices in Sciences, periodicals were not acknowledged in this function in the field of Humanities which merged merton pattern very late. The study deals with knowledge circulation and translation (Latour, 1984) in scientific communication in edication and educational research. Different editorial patterns already identified show hybridizations in a historical perspective and a tension between "revue" tradition as science-society linking and journals as techno-science medias. During the 50ies, at the beginning of Knowledge industrialisation, "Abeona" and "Courrier de la recherche pédagogique" are the field of those editorial hybridizations and changes in educational process. During the 60ies bibliometrics, scientometrics, standards and indicators for assessment are used for research development policy. The "Revue française de pédagogie" created in 1967 in the same time as educational research is considered as the first journal in this discipline. It knows hybridization patterns too and is at the same time the gate keeper of the building of the new discipline and its community in a mediologic triangle. Titles analysis from 1967 till 1999 disclose a universe with five notions, education, school, teaching, formation, pedagogy where the use of school is growing up and the use of teaching is falling down. At the same time, the community is compounded with more scholars and women. Nowadays, Knowledge society needs information management and a new pattern where assessment, economic intelligence and knowledge management are the proactive basis of research policy

Full textPeriodical press is amongst the most important innovations at dawn of the Enlightment. But a periodical is also a strange object, and raises a specific problem, trying to give an end to the state of fragmentation in science, and making it worse in the same time. . This work tackles this issue in describing the periodicals’ basic functions and principles. Periodicals have defined a new status for the scientific community, in charge of the unity of sciences, and invented new ways of exposing scientific results. Therefore, they can be seen as a deciding factor to the rise of modern criticism. Cluster of scientific, political, economical and media dynamics, sometimes with conflicting interests, periodicals reveal like no other institution all scientific processes at work in France in the second half of the XVIIth century

Full textThis PhD work is part of global collaboration project with Cobra Europe company. The main motivation is to better understand in order to model the physical degradation mechanisms of woven composite with a well specified design. The present work takes benefit of the results issued from Piezelthesis. It aims at investigating the mechanisms of degradation leading to the failure of woven fabrics but also at introducing relevant parameters dedicated to their design.A multiscale experimental investigation on virgin and degraded samples of fabric is first carried out in order to analyze and characterize the damage phenomena observed within these samples.Tensile tests (with or without pre-cycling) were performed on the composite material (at the macroscopic scale) to detect a decrease in the stress at failure. Tomographic inspections with high resolution allowed for observations inside the constituents of the fabrics (mesoscopic scale)Thus, the main origin of the failure of the fabric was revealed : the warp yarn break with its localisation and information about the orientation of the normal to the fracture surfaces. A multiscale modeling was then performed, motivated by the degradation mechanisms observed previously. Under macroscopic loading representative of in service solicitationapplied to the present woven fabric (tension/bending), the periodic cell of theRepresentative Volume Element was investigated. Namely, a complete analysis of the stress state (heterogeneity, gradient, triaxiality, orientation) is carried out within the reinforcing yarns. It turns out that relevant parameters able to analyze any woven fabric were identified. Their characteristics were in good agreement with the experimental evidences. Furthermore, they allowed for a better understanding of the failure process of the fabric. With the experience acquired during the present work, these parameters were utilized to classify two specific woven architectures. This opens the perspective of a third thesis dedicated to refine and render systematic the present approach

Full textPersonalized research paper recommendation filters the publications according to the specific research interests of users, which could significantly alleviate the information overload problem. Content-based filtering is a promising solution for this task because it can effectively exploit the textual-nature of research papers. A content-based recommender system usually concerns three essential issues: item representation, user profiling, and a model that provides recommendations by comparing candidate item's content representation with the target user's interest representation. In this dissertation, we first propose an automatic keyphrase extraction technique for scientific documents, which improves the existing approaches by using a more precise location for potential keyphrases and a new strategy for eliminating the overlap in the output list. This technique helps to implement the representation of candidate papers and the analysis of users' history papers. Then for modeling the users' information needs, we present a new ontology-based approach. The basic idea is that each user is represented as an instance of a domain ontology in which concepts are assigned interest scores reflecting users' degree of interest. We distinguish senior researchers and junior researchers by deriving their individual research interests from different history paper sets. We also takes advantage of the structure of the ontology and apply spreading activation model to reason about the interests of users. Finally, we explore a novel model to generate recommendations by resorting to the Dempster-Shafer theory. Keyphrases extracted from the candidate paper are considered as sources of evidence. Each of them are linked to different levels of user interest and the strength of each link is quantified. Different from other similarity measures between user profiles and candidate papers, our recommendation result produced by combining all evidence is able to directly indicate the possibility that a user might be interested in the candidate paper. Experimental results show that the system we developed for personalized research paper recommendation outperforms other state-of-the-art approaches. The proposed method can be used as a generic way for addressing different types of recommendation problems

Full textMass media and social networks are important sources of disseminating and communicating clinical research. The term “spin” is used when the presentation and interpretation of the results of a study is distorted by the authors intentionally or unintentionally. Spins exaggerate the beneficial effects of interventions and underestimate adverse effects. The main objectives of this PhD were (I) to assess the prevalence of spin in health news, as well as identify and classify different strategies of spin; (II) to identify factors associated with dissemination of research results through online media, and (III) to explore how results of a trial reported with spin were disseminated to the scientific community and online media, using the 2014 DAPT trial as a case study. For the first aim, we performed a cross-sectional study of health news and described the distortion of research results of studies evaluating an intervention in Google health news. We developed a classification of spin for health news and showed a high prevalence of spin. For the second aim, we performed a cohort study of articles evaluating cancer treatments and identify factors associated with high online media attention. The primary outcome was the attention received by media and social networks measured by Altmetric score. Our results highlighted the importance of open access and press releases. Finally, we performed a systematic review of attention received by media and social networks surrounding the DAPT study which were reported with spin and undermine the adverse effects of the treatment. We showed that the interpretation of results by authors was rarely criticized. These results highlighted the importance of spin in mass media and provided a tool (classification of spin) to improve the dissemination of research results

The introduction of computational approaches in humanities makes it possible to address issues such as semantic analysis and systematic archiving. The conceptual models developed are based on algorithms that are later hard coded in order to automate these tedious tasks. In the first part of the thesis we propose a novel method to build a semantic space based on topics modeling. In the second part and in order to classify historical documents according to their script. We propose a novel representation learning method based on stacking convolutional auto-encoder. The goal is to automatically learn plot representations of the script or the written language

Full textThe teaching a foreign language has often been associated with using literary texts. Situations change, objectives, methodologies, and techniques evolve but beyond these transformations, the relationship between literature and teaching of a language in one form or another has remained the same. After being temporarily underestimated during the sixties, didactical methods of teaching “French as a Foreign Language” (FFL) and use of literature, once again found its importance in the early eighties and this “come back” has been validated by the Communicative approach. Publication of numerous research works on teaching of literature and use of literary texts in language courses, shows clearly the reintroduction of this matter in the didactics of FFL. In this research work, our objective is to examine the existence of a gap in synchrony and in diachrony, between the didactic models proposed in the theoretical books and the pedagogic propositions on textbooks and pedagogical files on specialized reviews. To accomplish this, we chose the theoretical basic books in didactics of the FFL, to learn the didactical models proposed, concerning the teaching of literature in language courses. In regards to pedagogical propositions, we decided to work on some methods of language teaching published in France between 1994 and 2005 as well as pedagogical records in specialized journals, specifically in Le Français dans le Monde

Full textThe purpose of this work is to study in an innovative way the origins of French Hispanism. A study of the first scholarly journals in thefield of Hispanism (Hispanic Journal, Bulletin Hispanic, Latin American Review) reveals how these companies operate and the role played by more than six hundred employees within the period 1890-1930. This information was cross-referenced both with the study ofpublications and with published and handwritten correspondence. 4,804 articles and reviews, 529 books and 1,712 letters exchangedbetween Hispanists were examined in 25 institutions in seven countries (France, Spain, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, UnitedStates). These documents make it possible to build a prosopography of the actors and to lead an analysis of their networks, giving anoverview of the scholarly relationships and the importance of each person in the new field. The correspondence study also allows one toaccess the content of exchanges between French Hispanists and their European and American counterparts. This work highlights the interests of the different actors, their belonging to diverse groups, their motivations, their political ideas, agreements and disagreements when it comes to defining what a hispanist is. Full textThis work contains two independant parts. In the first part, we introduce a semi-discretization scheme for ordinary diferential systems whose linear part is diagonal (Fourier apprroximation of problèms with periodical boundary conditions in space yields often this kind of system). This scheme generalizes the classical Adams-Bashforth-Moulton scheme. We apply it to Kuramoto-Sivashinski equation and Navier-Stokes equations with periodical boundary conditions. In the second part, we present a second-order upwinding finite difference scheme for the steady Navier-Stokes equations and we solve the resulting discrete system by a multigrid method. Calculations have been carried out for the driven cavity problem in which the second-order scheme has been compared to a first-order upwinding scheme. Results have been obtained for Reynolds numbers up to 10 000 and compared to those published in the literature
