Abstract:
Abstract Analyses of quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) are important to understanding the dynamic behavior in many astrophysical objects during transient events like gamma-ray bursts, solar flares, magnetar flares, and fast radio bursts. Astrophysicists often search for QPOs with frequency-domain methods such as (Lomb–Scargle) periodograms, which generally assume power-law models plus some excess around the QPO frequency. Time-series data can alternatively be investigated directly in the time domain using Gaussian process (GP) regression. While GP regression is computationally expensive in th

The evolutionary periodogram has been introduced to mechanical fault diagnosis and relationship between the evolutionary periodogram and time-frequency spectrogram has been investigated. The evolutionary periodogram is unveiled as an especially windowed spectrogram, and is applied to gearbox fault diagnosis. It has been shown that the window used in the evolutionary periodogram is not a single function but a combination of a set of functions. Two cases of gearbox diagnosis are presented as examples of application. Vibration signals and a synchronous signal are collected for the analysis. The t

Under normality, we obtain higher-order approximations to the distributions of the periodogram and related statistics. Our approach is based on the theorem which decomposes the periodogram into the sum of two independent random variables. It is seen that this decomposition enables us to study fairly closely the higher-order properties of not only the periodogram, but also periodogram-based statistics such as the estimators of the spectrum and prediction error variance. Some of the approximation results are graphically presented together with the exact results based on simulations.

Abstract Accurate time series analysis is essential for studying variable astronomical sources, where detecting periodicities and characterizing power spectral density (PSD) are crucial. The Lomb–Scargle periodogram, commonly used in astronomy for analyzing unevenly sampled time series data, often suffers from noise introduced by irregular sampling. This paper presents a new high-pass filter (HPF) periodogram, a novel implementation designed to mitigate this sampling-induced noise. By applying a frequency-dependent HPF before computing the periodogram, the HPF method enhances the precision of

Abstract:
The objective of this paper is to propose a new target distance and velocity estimation technique for OFDM radar systems. First, the 2D periodogram is collected from the reflected signal via FFT of received OFDM symbols. The largest value of a 2D periodogram often represents the target so that its position indicates the distance and velocity. The CFAR is one of the famous conventional techniques to find the peak in the 2D periodogram. In this paper, a CNN based estimator is proposed. The proposed CNN directly finds the distance and velocity from the 2D periodogram. The proposed method requires
