Sleep disruption has been implicated in morbidity after major surgery since 1974. Sleep-related upper airway obstruction has been associated with death after upper airway surgery and profound episodic hypoxaemia in the early postoperative period. Många patienter blir hypoterma under den perioperativa vården. Det finns en mängd åtgärder som kan vidtas för att minska oönskad hypotermi.
