Superneutrality of money and the Fisher Effect are well-known theoretical propositions. Empirical tests of long-run versions of these hypotheses have sometimes been done by estimating how a variable responds to a permanent shock to inflation. Substituting inflation for money growth in a test for superneutrality is motivated by the widely-accepted Monetarist precept that “inflation is everywhere and always a monetary phenomenon.” Use of permanent shocks to inflation and money growth for testing such hypotheses has declined, in part because permanent movements in these variables have an endogeno

Permanent migration across provinces in China has become an important strategy for Chinese older people to respond to a temperature-unfriendly place of residence in late life. However, the relation between temperature effects and permanent settlements of older migrants remains unclear. This paper explores how stagnating real wages may have contributed to the slowdown of US productivity. Through shift-share analysis, we find that after a sharp change in distribution against wages, some historically high-productivity sectors (like manufacturing) switched towards slower productivity growth. This supports our hypothesis that the anemic growth of productivity may be partly due to the trend toward massive use of cheap labor. Our estimation of Sylos Labini’s productivity equation confirms the existence of two direct effects of wages, one acting through the incentive to mechanizatio

Abstract:
Currently, AASHTOWare PMED does not contain a framework to compute distresses for loading scenarios like truck platoons. Truck platoons reduce fuel consumption and improve safety while increasing pavement damage because of a reduction in wander and rest period. The important parameters of truck platoons are wander, rest period, and penetration level. Unlike wander, the effect of reduced rest period on permanent deformation and platoon penetration level are not well documented. Rest period (i.e., truck spacing) is a critical parameter in platoons that can be controlled to reduce damage or to im

Abstract:
The paper documents the sharp reduction in union density in Peru between 1986 and 1998, in a context of large macroeconomic fluctuations, structural reforms and changes in the Collective Bargaining Law in 1993. The authors find that a blue-collar job, a permanent contract, higher education and working in a large firm increase the likelihood of unionization, but only before the legislative change. Using a panel of firms for the manufacturing sector for the period 1994-1996, a negative impact of unions on profits for all firm sizes is found. In the econometric analysis, a significant negative ef

Abstract:
In this Special Article we analyse the distributional impact of Budget 2025. Similar to last year, many reforms in this Budget were temporary measures specifically aimed at combatting cost of living pressures. Compared to a baseline pegged to wage growth, the permanent measures, such as increases in the tax band, tax credits and social welfare rates, are broadly progressive, with households in the bottom quintile of income expected to see an increase of around 0.9% of equivalised disposable income, and those in the top quintile to see increases of 0.5%. When accounting for temporary measures,

Introduction: skin aging involves collagen fragmentation, which affects the extracellular matrix and accelerates deterioration. Photoaging, caused by ultraviolet radiation, motivates patients to seek corrective treatments. Calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) is a biocompatible filler that stimulates collagen production and provides safe and long-lasting results with a low complication rate. Correction of the nasolabial fold (NLF) is key to facial aesthetics, and CaHA has been shown to be effective in improving appearance and rejuvenating the face. Objectives: demonstrate the efficacy and safety of C

Abstract:
In cities around the world, Covid-19 lockdowns have improved outdoor air quality, in some cases dramatically. Even if only temporary, these improvements could have longer-lasting effects on policy by making chronic air pollution more salient and boosting political pressure for change. To that end, it is important to develop objective estimates of both the air quality improvements associated with Covid-19 lockdowns and the benefits these improvements generate. We use panel data econometric models to estimate the effect of Bogotás lockdown on fine particulate pollution, epidemiological models to

Hinterlang, Natascha. Effects of Carbon Pricing in Germany and Spain: An Assessment with EMuSe. Banco de España, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.53479/33814.

Abstract:
Using the dynamic, three-region environmental multi-sector general equilibrium model EMuSe, we find that pricing carbon in Germany or Spain only leads to a permanent negative effect on output in these economies. The induced emissions reduction is not large enough to overcompensate for the increase in marginal production costs. If the rest of Europe joins the carbon pricing scheme, long-run output effects are positive. However, in this case, transition costs are even larger due to close trade relations within Europe. We find evidence for carbon leakage, which can be reduced slightly by a border
