Abstract Rice was planted 22 May on loessial silt loam soil at the Macon Ridge Branch of the Northeast Research Station. The experimental design was a randomized complete block design with 4 replications. All plots were sampled for root feeding larvae by taking 3 soil cores (9 cm dia × 10 cm deep) from drills rows, once a week, for 4 weeks after establishing permanent flood.
