La question de l’existence de petits muscles ayant une fonction essentiellement proprioceptive a été examinée. Les muscles fibulaires du rat abducteurs du 4ème ou 5ème doigt ont été pris pour modèle. Les propriétés et les proportions des différents types d’unités motrices de ces muscles ont été étudiés. Il a été montré que la sommation des forces développées par les unités motrices était dans ces muscles linéaire que ce soit dans les conditions statiques ou dynamiques. An estimated 23,000 ankle injuries occur every day in the U.S. Ankle sprains account for 85% of all ankle injuries and inversion ankle sprains account for 85% of all ankle sprains. There is growing evidence that suggests gender and fatigue may increase the risk for inversion ankle sprains.
