As a legacy of intellectual works in Malay and Persian literature Taj al-Salatin and Siyasatname are two major works full of wisdom and courtesy reviews. Two books are equally written by the king's closest people and also presented to the King for the sake of achieving a harmonious life between the King and the people. Siyasatname was written by Nizam al Mulk (1018-109 AD) and presented to the king Alp Arselan and Malik Shah (1072-1092 AD) two kings of the Seljuq dynasty, while Taj al-Salatin was written by Bukhari al Jauhari in Aceh (1603 AD) and presented to Sultan Alauddin Riayyat Syah (158

The Arabic historiographical tradition is considered to be one of the most important textual sources for the reconstruction of Sāsānian history. Historians such as al-Ṭabarī, al- Masʿūdī or al-Thaʿālibī explicitly claimed to have used older material of Persian origin. The basis of their accounts seem to have been translations, excerpts and adaptations of translations, which commonly are traced back to the Middle-Persian “Book of Kings”, the Khwadāynāmag. While it may be assumed a scientific consensus that there were in the late Sāsānian period books dealing with Iran’s history, the opaque char

The article draws on Achaemenid royal inscriptions in a postcolonial investigation of Ezra-Nehemiah’s portrayal of the community of immigrants from Babylon. The book presents the community’s identity as a hybrid of the way imperial hegemony portrays the colonized who live in the Persian Empire and of aspects of the community’s own Judean heritage that is strongly influenced by Yahwism. In Ezra 1–6, the community is portrayed as a group of colonists sent from the imperial center by the king, but, in these chapters, loyalty to the king amounts to loyalty to Yhwh, since it is the community’s God

Abstract While books like Isaiah, Ezra-Nehemiah and Chronicles include the accession of Cyrus to power in God’s plan for his people, the book of Malachi keeps its distance from the Persian empire. The reading of Malachi 1:6-14 shows that the author was sensitive to Persian propaganda ; he subtly preached against it. Besides the restauration of worthy cultic rites, the main goal of this passage is to assert that the true great king is YHWH Seba’ot, not the Persian king. Thus, Malachi 1:11.14 should be interpreted as an affirmation of the present status of YHWH.

Abstract The literary development of the book of Kings continues to occasion much debate, including the long narrative of Solomon’s temple dedication in 1 Kings 8. The quest for clarity may be aided by the textual witness of the Old Greek (OG). This study analyzes the textual relation between MT-1 Kgs 8:1–11 and OG-3 Kgdms 8:1–11 to discern the literary development of MT in light of the shorter version preserved in OG. I argue that the OG translator is not the source of the textual discrepancy; rather the MT reflects an expanded version of the OG Hebrew Vorlage. As the additional material evin

Herodotus' portraits of the four Persian kings in the Histories present the reader with four very distinct personalities. This offers an opportunity to compare them with each other as individuals, rather than as linked parts of an overall Herodotean pattern (such as the rise and fall of empires), and to use detailed differences between them at the micro-level as the basis for an analysis of each one's own unique style of leadership. My analysis takes as its starting point the classification of three of the kings allegedly made by the Persians themselves (see 3.89.3), focusing on all four kings

Scholarly study of the biblical book of Ezra-Nehemiah has mainly focused on historical questions. Indeed, the book is one of the most important sources available for shedding light on the history of Persian-period Judea. It has been widely held that Ezra-Nehemiah in its final form reflects a pro-Persian attitude, based on its treatment of the Persian kings within the narrative. The present study seeks to provide a step toward greater precision in this assessment by employing a recognition of the techniques of characterisation used in narrative texts to evaluate the portrayal of the Persian kin

This thesis explores how the interpretation of Kings might be enlightened by applying a hermeneutic developed from the work of Mikhail Bakhtin, a Russian literary critic. Bakhtin demonstrated how the social construct of carnival has made its way into some literature, which he terms seriocomic. Diagnostic criteria for seriocomic literature are: violation of linguistic norms; inversion of hierarchy and oxymoronic combinations; the fool and 'masking'; crowning/decrowning; 'odd feasts'; grotesque and scatological elements; profanation; and fantasticality. An answer to this is the integrated organization of care and welfare in a way that personalized care is the measure (Topol, 2016). The reality, however, is that care and welfare are still mainly offered in a standardized, specialized and fragmented way. This imbalance between the need for care and the supply of care not only leads to under-treatment and over-treatment and thus to less (experienced) quality, but also entails the risk of mis-treatment, which means that pa
