Abstract:
This thesis presents an interrogation of curriculum practices and positionings, over time, of a feminist educator and curriculum worker seeking to centre gender and subjugated knowledges in a curriculum framework with the potential for transformative outcomes. The interrogation offers an opportunity to consider discourses in operation, to frame curriculum and pedagogy as sites of discursive struggle around knowledges, gender and power. The thesis, presented as a critical narrative, interweaves theories and theoretical ideas from four key areas: post modernism and post structuralism; feminism/s; education and curriculum, and critical social sciences, including critical theory. Interpretative feminist praxis is employed as the methodological approach. Central to the investigation is a curriculum project undertaken in Papua New Guinea (the Goroka Curriculum Project). This Project which is positioned as a case study, provides text for conceptual and contextual interrogation of a specific site of curriculum work, and a corrective moment in which the limitations of the writer's endeavours and position/s of advantage are acknowledged. Curriculum positionings described as oppositional are challenged as a result of the lack of attention to gender by radical and critical theorists. Further, the disjuncture between such theorising, and the development of curriculum models to inform oppositional work is made overt and problematic. Curriculum models and practices associated with the work of traditional empiricist approaches found to be dominant in Papua New Guinea, reify western intellectual endeavours to the disadvantage of indigenous and women's knowledges and knowledge practices. This naturalisation is framed as an example of a meta narrative in education, whereby the discursive practices associated with traditional / rational curriculum models both colonise the endeavours of curriculum workers, and position learners as colonised subjects. A central outcome of the traditional/rational model is the inherent positioning of such individuals and groups as marginalised, devalued Other. Such curriculum work is framed as a technology of governance, privileging attempts to establish order and homogeneity in an increasingly disorderly and fragmented world. The investigation by the curriculum writer of her theory/practice leads to recognition of oppositional work as a site of power, that also has the potential to 'oppress', extending the colonial project. Following this, the thesis investigates transformative curriculum work as problematic potentiality, questioning what the work of a feminist curriculum writer in a post modern world is to do and to be. While acknowledging there are no innocent discourses of liberation, the potential of the 'courage to know', to attend to pedagogical ethics and ethics of self, and acknowledge the messy, contradictory and deeply political work of curriculum design are posited. An emergent notion of curriculum work as textual practice, within a multi-dimensional framework that conceptualises curriculum as representation is advanced.

Abstract:
This study examines how Latina school leaders' narratives of experiences lead to understanding the prevailing underrepresentation problem of Latinas in educational administration ranks in Arizona. The analyses of two principals and two superintendents' Latina/womanist narratives of lived experiences are interpreted and reflected in themes of aspirations, support systems, and barriers encountered in preparation for and performance of leadership duties. The study was conducted over a one-year period in urban and rural K-12 school settings. A mujerista perspective complemented a qualitative narrative-inquiry approach. Narrative findings divulged the poise displayed and conflicts experienced by participants in leading schools and staff; the confidence in influencing students' learning opportunities; and insight on ways of understanding Latina leaders challenges and contributions. Most important, interpretation of findings showed how culture, gender, race, and class shaped knowledge, power, and relationships that intersected in leadership practices. The sharing of capabilities as school administrators of the Latinas profiled herein disclosed and validated their diverse knowledge and experiences as advocates to meet the needs of all children, schools, and communities. Salient findings from the mujerista perspective of Latinas' professional experiences suggest means of achieving change and recommendations for future research to improve recruitment, professional development, mentoring, promotion, and retention in order to value Latinas' contributions and strengthen the leadership workforce in Arizona. With increases in demographic diversity foreshadowing the future challenges of education, participants emphasized the important contributions Latina leaders make as principals and superintendents in K-12 schools.

Introduction : Utilisant une technique de scénarios, cette étude a exploré et cartographié les positions des Français de manière détaillée concernant les politiques de contrôle du tabac, de l’alcool et des jeux de hasard et d’argent. Méthode : Un échantillon de 344 adultes (dont des professionnels de santé et des juristes a jugé de l’acceptabilité des politiques de contrôle présentées dans 54 vignettes. Chacune d’entre elles vise une politique de contrôle relative à une consommation potentiellement addictive (tabac, alcool ou jeu d’argent), comprenant des mesures de prévention, de réglementation et des sanctions. Résultats : Grâce à l’analyse typologique, huit positions qualitativement différentes ont été trouvées. Elles se présentent sur un continuum allant du rejet total de toute politique de contrôle ou de réglementation faible, à une forte réglementation et des sanctions sévères. Ces huit positions sont : jamais acceptable (9 %), réglementation faible ou modérée (5 %), réglementation modérée associée à une forte prévention (11 %), réglementation modérée ou forte (11 %), réglementation forte associée à une forte prévention (23 %), sanctions modérées (9 %), sanctions sévères (9 %) et toujours favorable (9 %). Certains participants (14 %) ont été qualifiés d’« indécis ». Ces positions ont été associées avec les caractéristiques sociodémographiques des participants, leurs opinions politiques et leurs habitudes de consommation de produits potentiellement addictifs. Conclusion : Cette étude confirme que ces pratiques, fumer, boire de l’alcool et jouer de l’argent, ne sont plus considérées comme privées mais sont bien perçues comme des problèmes publics. Elles sont envisagées comme relevant de choix de société, ayant des incidences sur l’ordre social. Une majorité de participants est d’accord avec la politique de contrôle française actuelle. Le type préféré de politique de contrôle varie en fonction du produit considéré et selon le comportement de consommation du répondant (ex : plus le répondant est consommateur de produit addictif, moins il est favorable à une politique de contrôle fort). L’analyse des résultats donne à voir une convergence de traitement de ces consommations. Tous les participants sont favorables à la prévention, quel que soit le produit considéré. En général, les participants ont légitimé des mesures de réglementation forte, et plus particulièrement pour les JHA, ainsi qu’une politique de sanctions sévères pour l’alcool
Introduction: Using a scenario-based technique, this study explored and charted, the positions of the French concerning policies to control tobacco, alcohol and gambling. Method: A sample of 344 adults (including health professionals and lawyers) were polled on the acceptability of the policies of control via a presentation of 54 cases. Each one of them aims at a policy of control relative to potentially addictive consumption (tobacco, alcohol or gambling), including preventive measures, regulation and sanctions. Results: As a result of the typological analysis, eight qualitatively different positions were found. They are presented on a continuum – from total rejection of any policy of control or weak regulation, to favouring strong regulation and severe sanctions. These eight positions are: never acceptable (9%), weak or moderate regulation (5%), moderate regulation associated with strong prevention (11%), moderate or strong regulation (11%), strong regulation with strong prevention (23%), moderate sanctions (9%), severe sanctions (9%) and always favourable (9%). Some participants (14%) are described as « undecided ». These positions were associated with the sociodemographic characteristics of the participants, their political opinions and their consumption habits of potentially addictive products. Conclusion: This study confirms that these practices - smoking, drinking alcohol, and gambling - are no longer considered private but rather have come to be seen as public issues. They are viewed as choices made by society, with implications for the overall social order. A majority of participants agree with the regulations currently applied in France. The type of measure preferred by respondents varies according to the product under consideration as well as the respondent's own consumption patterns (e.g. the more the respondent is a consumer of addictive products, the less favourable he / she is to strong control measures). The analysis of the results shows a convergence in the treatment of these areas of consumption. All participants are in favour of prevention, regardless of the product under consideration. In general, participants confirmed an acceptance of strong regulatory measures, especially for gambling, as well as severe penalties with respect to the consumption of alcohol

There appears to be a growing recognition among economists and other social commentators that people attempt to enhance their relative position (which is commonly described as status) through consumption choices and other behaviour. It has been less common to consider whether attempts to enhance relative position impact on saving behaviour. This thesis makes a number of contributions relating to the impact of relative position on saving behaviour. In this thesis I: - consider why concern for relative position may impact on saving behaviour. I demonstrate, with a simple intertemporal model the surprising result that when people are concerned with relative position, income risk can lead to most people saving less and the rich saving more. - conduct an empirical study to test the importance of relative position on saving behaviour. I find a statistically and economically significant relationship between peer income and saving behaviour consistent with theories that people actively forgo saving to seek to enhance their relative position. I use the data to demonstrate that relative position can help to explain why prior research has consistently found that the rich have higher saving rates. - consider the policy implications of relative position to saving behaviour. I examine the policies, primarily corrective taxation, that have been advocated to address externalities of relative position in a static setting. I find that there are significant issues when these policies are considered in an intertemporal setting. I examine the policy of mandatory saving in addressing distortions caused by relative position and the possibility that concern for relative position improves the effectiveness of mandatory saving policy.

Por ello intento contribuir al progreso de la gestión escolar, ahondando en el progreso profesional de las docentes, a través de un proceso de reflexión, y reciprocidad; proponiendo el fortalecimiento de sus capacidades en estrategias metodológicas, generarando interacciones positivas en los niños, para el logro de aprendizajes perdurables y más ambiciosos, a través del esfuerzo colegiado, pensando dar respuesta a la necesidad institucional. Esta propuesta se ayuda en los aportes teóricos del MINEDU y experiencias exitosas. Se ha trazado el objetivo, aplicar de forma adecuada las estrategias metodológicas que generen interacciones positivas en los estudiantes facilitando su formación integral; por ello, fue necesario partir de un diagnóstico consistente, una alternativa de solución enfocada a transformar la práctica cotidiana y la evaluación del plan de acción; concluyendo que por muy buenas que sean las intenciones, poco o casi nada, se logra si se hace un trabajo solitario, es necesario el compromiso, la cohesión y la sinergia de los miembros de la comunidad educativa, para favorecer al desarrollo personal y social de nuestros estudiantes, de tal modo que podamos trascender, inspirar y sin lugar a dudas crear un gran impacto en la comunidad porteña.

En majoritet bland ledare i olika organisationer har en bakgrund som storasyskon eller ensambarn (Hudson, 1990). Denna studie genomfördes för att få svar på om personer med ledaransvar skiljer sig åt gällande syskonplats och locus of control jämfört med de personer som inte har ledaransvar. Ledare och medarbetare på en statlig myndighet svarade på en enkät gällande plats i syskonskara, erfarenhet av ledarskap och locus of control. Resultatet visade att sistfödda i detta urval hade en högre grad av intern locus of control än förstfödda vilket kan tyda på en annan typ av sistfödd på denna myndighet. Urvalet var dock bristfälligt (N = 48) och slutsats kunde inte dras utan att riskera ett felaktigt resultat.

Abstract:
This study investigated the role of contextual factors in personnel selection. Specifically, I explored if specific job factors such as the wage, training, available applicant pool and security concerns around a job, influenced personnel decisions. Additionally, I explored if the individual differences of decision makers played a role in how the previously mentioned job factors affected their decisions. A policy-capturing methodology was employed to determine the weight participants place on the job factors when selecting candidates for different jobs. Regression and correlational analyses were computed with the beta weights obtained from individual regression analyses. The results obtained from the two samples (student and general population) revealed that specific job characteristics did indeed influence personnel decisions. Participants were more concerned with making mistakes and thus less likely to accept candidates when selecting candidates for jobs having high salary and/or high training requirements.

Abstract:
This study examined the effects and risk of employee personal social media behaviour on corporate reputation, and the subsequent changing of consumer behavioural intention (CBI) in the banking industry. Additionally, this study also determined whether the ethical position, i.e idealistic views or relativistic views, moderates the consumer perception of the corporate reputation due to a personal social media post of an employee. This study was conducted using the Stimulus-Organism-Response model as a theoretical grounding. The research design was a single factor between subject experimental design, with a treatment and control group which were allocated to scenarios depicting an employee’s personal social media post. The analysis revealed that employee personal social media behaviour does affect consumer perception of the corporate reputation, and futhermore changes the CBI. However, the moderation analysis revealed that a consumer’s ethical position has no effect on their perception of the corporate reputation based on the employee’s personal social media behaviour. The findings offer recommendations to managers going forward.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Eriez Magnetics, a manufacturer of specialized magnetic and associated equipment, is well positioned in terms of image and reputation. However, a growing number of low cost competitors are continuously eroding its Market share. The objective of the study was to perform a comprehensive situational analysis, and identify key issues that are necessary for Eriez to improve its competitive position. Various analytic tools and filters were used to analyse the company information, which was predominantly obtained form structured interviews. The key issues identified were: a. No clear and visible vision, mission and objectives agreed and understood by all in organisation. b. No common value system threading through organisation. c. Lack oftrust between workers and management. d. No integrated information system to enable sharing of information. e. Lack of formal and visible performance. f. No formal quality plan in workshop that is adhered to for every job. g. Lack of concerted customer focus due to understaffed sales and marketing team. h. Potential for the diverse product range to be streamlined. i. Lack of Staff and Agent Training. j. Lack of Employee encouragement to submit ideas to enhance performance. In order to regain its position as the market leader, it needs to focus strongly on its people management, internal processes, customer service and core products, as detailed in this report. The Balance Scorecard is a tool that Eriez SA must consider using to actively monitor key variables identified that will enhance the company's competitive position. The next phase of the project is syndicating these findings and recommendations with Eriez SA top management with a view of setting up an implementation plan.

Abstract:
Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka hur uthyrda konsulter upplever sin position på kundföretag samt hur de upplever den eventuella maktrelationen mellan konsulter och den ordinarie personalen. För att besvara detta syfte har en kvalitativ metod tillämpats, där fem konsulter i Stockholmsområdet intervjuats. Studien har visat konsulternas arbetssituation på många sätt är otillfredsställande. Studiens resultat visar att konsulterna upplever ett visst utanförskap på sitt nuvarande uppdrag, dock inte i den utsträckning som tidigare forskning och teoretiska ramverk antydde. De faktorer som påverkade graden av utanförskap var konsulternas anställningsform (heltid/deltid), uppdragets längd samt åldersfördelningen på arbetsplatsen. De konsulter som arbetade deltid på sitt nuvarande uppdrag upplevde ett starkare utanförskap och upplevde att de hade svårare att komma in i den etablerade arbetsgruppen medan de konsulter som arbetade heltid kände en starkare samhörighet med kundföretaget och dess anställda. Uppdragets längd visade sig även i viss utsträckning påverka graden av utanförskap. De konsulter som arbetat på ett kundföretag en längre period upplevde en starkare samhörighet med kundföretagets personal, medan de konsulter som arbetat kortare tid på sitt uppdrag inte upplevde att kundföretaget och dess personal litade på att de utförde sitt arbete korrekt och att de skulle stanna på kundföretaget. Resultatet från denna undersökning visar att ju längre tid konsulterna arbetat på sitt aktuella uppdrag desto mindre betydelse hade anställningsformen. Ålder visade sig också vara en bidragande faktor till hur integrerade konsulterna upplevde sig vara på kundföretaget. På konsulternas arbetsplatser rådde en kraftig åldersskillnad och att det påverkade i sin tur relationsbygget på arbetsplatsen.

Abstract:
This research has sought to contribute to the literature to the understanding of the factors influencing women’s career progression in higher education management through in depth, semi-structured interviews and a focus group discussion conducted with 48 women working in junior, and senior level management positions in the universities of Pakistan. Addressing the first research question to better understand current gendered based distribution of management positions in the sampled universities, a quantitative survey was conducted. The research questions 2, 3 and 4 addressed the following three areas sequentially: first, the constraints faced by participants at familial, societal, organizational and personal levels; second, the supportive factors experienced by the participants at familial, societal, organizational and personal levels; and finally, Is work-family conflict a barrier to women‘s career progression in Pakistan? The aim of the focus group discussion was to extract some further qualitative information from a group of six participants working in one of the universities and to investigate whether participants had similar experiences. For the analysis of quantitative data the advanced charting and graphing features in Microsoft Office Word and Excel were used to develop basic table, graph, and chart structures to display the frequency count. For the qualitative data the inductive coding and thematic analysis was utilized searching for patterns and themes. The analysis of quantitative data revealed the dearth of women in senior management positions. The analysis of qualitative data provided an unprecedented and comprehensive view of the complex, contradictory, and multifaceted dimensions of distinctive factors influencing women’s career progression in senior management positions. The participants – both junior and seniors – informed about the hurdles they had faced when they got appointed or when they had moved into senior roles, as well as what kinds of help and support they had received for their career progression. It was expected that knowledge based on participant’s perceptions of the difficulties and social support and the strategies they exercised for facilitating the work-family interface, hopefully, will bring their insights to a wider audience. Such knowledge would support the management of women‘s human resources and their management careers in the cultural specific context and might emerge as a strong strategy for policy makers for countering the issue of the dearth of women in senior management positions.

Abstract:
The researcher utilized the 2007 American College Personnel Association (ACPA) Steering Committee on Professional Competencies report, Professional Competencies, to determine the importance of a set of competencies for work in entry-level student affairs positions. The researcher also studied whether there were any differences in importance of these competencies based on functional area (e.g., residence life/housing, student activities) and institutional type (i.e., four-year public and four-year private). Via an online questionnaire, the researcher sent the list of competencies to a sample of 970 members of ACPA who were self-selected as entry-level members and received 224 usable responses. Of the 75 individual competency items studied, 66 were found to be, minimally,  important for entry-level positions overall, thus reinforcing the fact that entry-level practitioners need a wide array of competencies to perform the responsibilities within their positions. Competencies related to advising and helping others, including students and colleagues, were rated the highest, while those related to the legal foundations of the field were rated the lowest, yet still at least  somewhat important. Several significant differences were found between groups within the studied demographic variables and the degree of importance of the competencies. Specifically, there were very few significant differences in the degree of importance of competencies based on respondent institutional type. Compared to other demographic items, functional area by far indicated the most significant differences between groups.

A travers l'étude monographique de l'industrialisation d'une activité nouvelle dans un espace industriellement vierge, il s'agit de penser, dans l'articulation de la carrière professionnelle et de la carrière résidentielle, de la sociologie industrielle et de la sociologie urbaine, les spécificités de la stratification sociale et les ressorts de sa renégociation au fil des générations de travailleurs qui se succèdent sur ce centre nucléaire. C'est par des observations ethnographiques des situations de travail, par des entretiens biographiques sur les trajectoires professionnelles et résidentielles de salariés du nucléaire et par le dépouillement de données administratives d'archives sur le recrutement du centre et sur l'histoire du site et de la localité, que cette recherche est menée. Le premier chapitre présente le cadre institutionnel multipolaire dans lequel se développe l'industrie nucléaire à Marcoule en soulignant, contre tout déterminisme technique exclusif, les marges de jeu qu'il laisse aux acteurs. Les conditions d'embauche et d'hébergement qui sont faites aux travailleurs du centre (ch. 2) amènent à distinguer deux générations mais favorisent pour chacune la stabilité de la main-d’œuvre. This thesis is a monograph on a new industrial activity in a formerly industrial-free region. In a study of the way people's professional career articulates with their residential patterns and history, industrial sociology and urban sociology are used to understand the local social stratification and the determinants of its successive "negotiation" over the generations. This research is based, 1) on an ethnographic observation of work, 2) on life-stories interviews about the professional and residential history of workers in the nuclear plant, and 3) on the study of administrative archives concerning the nuclear site and the local town. Chapter 1 presents the complex institutional framework in which nuclear industry developed at Marcoule, notably by stressing the room left to the actors for manoeuvre. Recruitment and accommodation initially offered by the centre encouraged the stability of the labour, differently in every generation (ch. 2). In chapter 3, an in-depth study of the work process reveals that those workers exposed to radiations risks have a large autonomy in the organization of their job, as well as particular modes of implication in their work that were developed in order to face these special constraints. By allowing "complementary" activities, the way the workers organize their job is also consistent with their residential plans, notably with their will to own their house ("pavillon"). The fourth and last chapter shows how the workers of the second generation found their place in the social organization resulting from the first industrial setting. But they sometimes also modified it, as shown by studies dealing with intermediary levels of analyse, such as the profession or the "quartier"

Du lieu de son indétermination originelle, l’humanité construit des représentations d’elle-même et du monde à partir desquelles elle s’autorise ou non à agir dans son environnement. Les processus qui participent à la construction des représentations pourraient être largement façonnés par l’inconscient, à l’image du Moi des individus. Ainsi, la violence qui s’autorise et se déverse à l’encontre de ce qui vit sans mots (la nature) peut se comprendre comme un mécanisme défensif servant à dénier le rapport de dépendance à la Terre, vécue au fond des représentations les plus obscures, comme la mère des origines. Dans cette perspective, l’éducation soucieuse des relations Homme-nature, trouve sa visée dans une position éthique conçue comme gratitude et responsabilité. Il ne s’agit pas là d’une éthique fondée dans une extériorité ontologique, comme principe vertueux ou moral. La position éthique se constitue en effet, au cœur de la quête identitaire humaine, de celle du Sujet à celle qui sous-tend les représentations collectives
The present ecological crisis, generated by human activities, could be the sign of an ontological crisis, an identity crisis of man in relation to nature. Due to its original indetermination, man creates self-représentations and représentations of the world, from which it does or does not allow itself to act in its environment. The processes which take part in the construction of the représentations could largely be shaped by the unconscious, in the image of the Ego of individuals. Thus, the violence, authorized and unloaded upon what lives in silence (nature), can be understood as a défensive mechanism used to deny the dépendance on the Earth lived at the bottom of the most obscure représentations, like the mother of the Origins. From this point of view, and because the relationship man-nature is an educational concern, an ethical position conceived as gratitude and responsability is becoming the stand of éducation. In this case, ethics is not based on an ontological exteriority like virtuous or moral principe. The ethical position is actually finding its source in the heart of the human identity quest from the individual’s quest to that which underlies collective représentations

A presente tese agrupa quatro estudos que objetivam investigar as relações dos recursos pessoais com os índices de bem-estar dos indivíduos. Foi realizada uma revisão de literatura sobre a iniciativa ao crescimento pessoal, a fim de compreender em profundidade o construto de iniciativa ao crescimento pessoal. Posteriormente, foram desenvolvidos três estudos empíricos. O primeiro artigo empírico refere-se ao estudo de adaptação e avaliação das propriedades psicométricas da versão brasileira da Escala de Iniciativa ao Crescimento Pessoal – II (Personal Growth Initiative Scale – II, PGI-II). Foi observado que a versão brasileira da PGI-II constitui-se como um instrumento confiável para investigar os índices de disponibilidade para mudança, planejamento, comportamento intencional e uso de recursos, apresentando uma estrutura de quatro fatores de primeira ordem. O segundo artigo empírico avaliou se as relações das dimensões da iniciativa ao crescimento pessoal com os níveis de bem-estar subjetivo eram mediadas pela presença de sentido de vida. Foi observado que a presença de sentido de vida media o impacto das dimensões planejamento e comportamento intencional sobre os níveis de satisfação com a vida, afetos positivos e negativos. As dimensões disponibilidade para mudança e uso de recursos não estiveram relacionadas aos índices de presença de sentido de vida. As dimensões disponibilidade para mudança e uso de recursos estiveram negativamente associadas aos níveis de bem-estar subjetivo. O terceiro artigo empírico avaliou se as relações entre otimismo, pessimismo e autoestima com os índices de estresse, satisfação com a vida, afetos positivos e negativos eram mediados pelos níveis de presença de sentido de vida. Os resultados demonstraram que as relações entre o otimismo e autoestima com os índices de estresse, afetos positivos e negativos foram parcialmente mediados pelos níveis de presença de sentido de vida. Entretanto, as relações dos índices de pessimismo com estresse, satisfação com a vida, afetos positivos e negativos não foram mediados pelos níveis de presença de sentido de vida. Estudos futuros devem avaliar se as relações dos recursos pessoais com bem-estar subjetivo e estresse são replicáveis a outras amostras. A principal contribuição desta tese foi disponibilizar uma escala para investigar a iniciativa ao crescimento pessoal no contexto brasileiro. Além disso, os resultados deste estudo avançam o conhecimento sobre as relações entre os recursos pessoais e as dimensões de bem-estar.
This thesis join up four studies that aims to investigate the relationship of levels of personal resources with well-being of individuals. A literature review on the personal growth initiative was carried out in order to understand in depth the construct of personal growth initiative. Later, three empirical studies were developed. The first empirical paper refers to the study of adaptation and evaluation of the psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of the Personal Growth Initiative Scale - II (Personal Growth Initiative Scale - II, PGI-II). It was observed that the Brazilian version of PGI-II was established as a reliable instrument to investigate the levels of readiness for change, planfulness, intentional behavior and using resources, with a four first-order factor structure. The second empirical research evaluated if presence of meaning in life mediated the relationships of the dimensions of personal growth initiative with subjective well-being. It was observed that the presence of meaning in life measured the impact of dimensional planning and intentional behavior on levels of satisfaction with life, positive and negative affect. The dimensions readiness for change and using resources were not related to levels of presence of meaning in life. The dimensions readiness for change and using resources were negatively associated with levels of subjective well-being. The third empirical research has evaluated if presence of meaning in life mediated the relationships of optimism, pessimism and self-esteem with levels of stress, life satisfaction, positive and negative affect. The results showed that the relationship between optimism and self-esteem with levels of stress, positive affect and negative were partially mediated by levels of presence of meaning in life. However, the relations of pessimism with stress, life satisfaction, positive affect and negative were not mediated by levels of presence of meaning in life. Future studies should evaluate if the relations of personal resources with subjective well-being and stress are replicable to other samples. The main contribution of this thesis was to provide a scale to investigate the initiative to personal growth in the Brazilian context. In addition, the results of this study advance the understanding of the relationship between personal resources and well-being.

The feelings of the therapist play a remarkable role in present-day models of psychotherapy. Going along with this tendency, the present study sets out to describe the experience of positive emotions by therapists in the interpersonal relationship with the client, during psychotherapy sessions. Contemporary models of emotion emphasize the complexity and plasticity of emotional responses. Positive psychology has shown that positive emotions offer a range of benefic effects including coping with negative experiences, restoration of wellbeing and personal growth. These issues are addressed empirically in this study through the concrete experience of a specific subgroup of health professionals, notably the psychotherapists. The aim of this study was to describe the experience of positive emotions by the therapist in the interpersonal relationship with the client, during sessions. Participants of this study were 20 psychotherapists, of which 19 female and one male; with in medium 13,9 years of professional experience. They were interviewed about their feelings during psychotherapy sessions. The data were analyzed according to the inductive precepts of Grounded Theory. A model was constructed in which treatment outcome, treatment process, therapist-client alliance, professional progress and the client are experienced as sources of positive emotions. The types of positive emotions experienced by the therapists are: happiness and joy, security, satisfaction and well-being. Experiencing these emotions positively influences the therapeutic relationship, professional development, therapist resilience and professional motivation.
Os sentimentos do terapeuta têm um papel de destaque em modelos de psicoterapia atuais. Com a intenção de contribuir com esta temática, o presente trabalho busca descrever a vivência das emoções positivas pelos terapeutas no relacionamento interpessoal com o cliente, durante o trabalho psicoterapêutico. Os modelos atuais de emoção destacam a complexidade e maleabilidade das respostas emocionais. A psicologia positiva aponta como as emoções positivas oferecem um leque de efeitos benéficos quanto à coping com vivencias negativas, restauração do bem-estar e crescimento pessoal. Tais assuntos são abordados de forma empírica neste estudo por meio da vivência concreta de um grupo específico de profissionais da saúde, a saber, os psicoterapeutas. O objetivo da presente pesquisa é de descrever a vivência de emoções positivas do terapeuta no relacionamento interpessoal com o cliente, durante o processo psicoterapêutico. Participaram do estudo 20 psicoterapeutas, dentre eles, 19 eram do sexo feminino e um do sexo masculino; com 13,9 anos em média de experiência profissional. Foram entrevistados sobre os seus sentimentos no decorrer das sessões. Os dados foram analisados a partir do método indutivo da Grounded Theory. Os resultados encontrados mostraram que as fontes de emoções positivas são os resultados, o processo, o vínculo, sucesso profissional e o cliente. Os tipos de emoções positivas vivenciadas pelos terapeutas são: felicidade e alegria, segurança, satisfação e bem-estar. Os efeitos provocados pela vivência de emoções positivas foram relativos ao aprimoramento profissional, ao crescimento pessoal, à promoção de resiliência, às melhoras no relacionamento terapêutico e à motivação profissional. Emoções negativas e seus efeitos também foram lembrados pelos participantes. Nota-se que o terapeuta pode se beneficiar com a vivência dessas emoções. Tais benefícios abrangem a vida dos terapeutas como profissionais, assim como pessoas.

Kandidatų požiūriai į įvairius atrankos metodus traukia organizacinės ir darbo psichologijos atstovų dėmesį dėl įvairių priežasčių, viena svarbiausių jų – tai, jog individų požiūriai į personalo atrankos metodus įtakoja jų vėlesnį elgesį. Ir nors tyrimų atlikta skirtingose šalyse nemažai, tačiau jokių duomenų nerandama Lietuvos ir Švedijos imtims. Šiame darbe iškeliamas tikslas - ištirti lietuvių studentų, lietuvių darbuotojų ir švedų studentų požiūrį į personalo atrankos metodus. Tiriamieji (197 studentai ir 86 darbuotojai) pildė Steiner ir Gilliland (1996) klausimyną, kurį sudaro trumpi 10 atrankos metodų aprašymai ir teiginiai apie šių metodų teisingumą. Rezultatai parodė, jog darbo pavyzdžio testai vertinami kaip teisingiausias personalo atrankos metodas lietuvių imtyje. Švedų imtyje teisingiausi personalo atrankos metodai yra šie: darbo pavyzdžio testai, interviu, gyvenimo aprašymas, asmeninės rekomendacijos. Lietuviai studentai palankiau vertina gebėjimų testų, sąžiningumo testų teisingumą nei švedai studentai, tačiau švedai studentai palankiau nei lietuviai studentai vertina interviu, gyvenimo aprašymą, asmenines rekomendacijas ir asmenines pažintis. Prasčiausiai teisingumo atžvilgiu lietuviai vertina asmenines pažintis ir grafologiją, o švedų grupėje vien tik grafologija vertinama kaip mažiausiai teisinga personalo atrankos procedūra. Candidates’ attitudes towards various personnel selection methods get attention of organizational and work psychology specialists because of various reasons. The most important reason is that individuals’ attitudes towards personnel selection methods influence their latter behavior. Although there is a substantial amount of studies carried out in different countries, yet there is no data for Lithuanian and Swedish samples. The aim of current study is to analyze the attitudes towards personnel selection methods among Lithuanian students, Lithuanian employees and Swedish students. Participants of the study (197 students and 86 employees) filled in the questionnaire, which includes short descriptions of 10 personnel selection methods as well as items about fairness of these methods. According to the results of the study, work-sample tests are ranked as the fairest personnel selection method in Lithuanian sample. The fairest personnel selection methods in Swedish sample are work-sample tests, interview, resumes, and personal references. Lithuanian students rank the fairness of written ability test and honesty test more favorably than Swedish students, but Swedish students tend to rank more favorably interview, resumes, personal references and personal contacts. Personal contacts and graphology were ranked the lowest on fairness dimension in Lithuanian sample, and Swedes ranked only graphology as the least fair personnel selection method. Men who have sex with men (MSM) remain disproportionately affected by HIV and sexual infections, which are acquired predominately through condomless anal sex, known as ‘barebacking’. This thesis is concerned with the experiences of HIV-negative or unknown status gay men who have recently engaged in bareback sex. Using data obtained through interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA), this thesis makes a unique and holistic contribution to the barebacking discourse by detailing the factors that influence HIV-negative and unknown status MSM to engage in bareback sex through the analytical lens of sexual position. MSM in London were targeted via gay press, e-mail broadcasts and leafleting, and asked to take part in in-depth qualitative interviews. The interviews were digitally recorded and transcribed verbatim, and the data were managed using NVivo9™. A total of 13 MSM were interviewed; the average age of participants was 39 years (range 29-55) and all had engaged in bareback sex between 0-90 days prior to the interview. The findings are organised around a pragmatic analytical framework generated from the mens’ narratives and comprise three main themes: ‘How participants set the scene to their barebacking encounters’; ‘The act of bareback sex’ and ‘The meanings men ascribe to bareback sex’. By examining how participants locate their barebacking encounters, how bareback sex is communicated and negotiated during an encounter, and how men ascribe meaning to bareback sex, I demonstrate how participation in bareback sex is the result of a dynamic process involving different combinations of factors. These findings are presented in three separate chapters. In addition, this thesis provides new insights regarding sexual position and bareback sex. The thesis concludes with a discussion about the implications of the findings for those who work with MSM and also considers areas of possible future research.

Inom psykosvården finns vissa brister, vilket gör det angeläget att undersöka vilka alternativa stödformer som kan finnas tillgängliga utöver den traditionella vården. Med internets utbredning har nya möjligheter för socialt stöd öppnat sig. Stödet online kan nischas till olika ämnesområden och kan tänkas komplettera, ersätta, eller utgöra ett substitut för, annat socialt stöd. I vår studie har vi undersökt webbsajten viska.se och det sociala stöd som där riktas mot personer i positionen psykossjuk. Studien har en kritisk etnografisk utgångspunkt, och vilar på de teoretiska ramverken cripteori och social support. Datamaterialet består av: sajtens layout, internetforum, chattkonversationer samt nyhetsartiklar. Insamlingen har skett genom en netnografisk undersökningsmetod; materialet har sedan genomgått en kritisk-tematisk analys. Vår studie bidrar med vissa kunskaper om socialt stöd till personer i positionen psykossjuk och om deras förmåga att erbjuda socialt stöd. Resultatet visar på att tre aktörer, admin, sajten Viska, och Viskas medlemmar, erbjuder socialt stöd. Stödet erbjuds på olika sätt, och beroende på sajtens olika funktioner antar det olika former. Genom hur det sociala stödet erbjuds omformuleras och utmanas psykospositionen; att erbjuda stöd kan på så vis utgöra ytterligare ett stöd då det normaliserar psykossjukdom. Fynden kan användas för att utveckla det professionella stöd som erbjuds personer i positionen psykossjuk, och kan ge verktyg för att främja alternativa stödformer utanför den traditionella vården. Vidare forskning bör undersöka hur användarna själva uppfattar Viska, samt vilka som använder sajten och om den behöver kompletteras med andra liknande stödarenor. Vidare forskning bör även undersöka olika stödformer i relation till olika psykiskt sjuka och marginaliserade positioner, och vilka resurser personer i dessa positioner besitter.

A partir del surgimiento de las terapias antirretrovirales se ha podido reducir el número de muertes causadas por el SIDA. Sin embargo, a pesar de sus beneficios no se pueden soslayar sus numerosos efectos secundarios. Entre ellos se encuentra el síndrome de lipodistrofia. Su etiología es multifactorial y se caracteriza por alteraciones metabólicas y cambios en la distribución de la grasa corporal produciendo efectos morfológicos en la persona seropositiva al VIH. Su carácter irreversible, hace de la lipodistrofia una situación difícil de manejar por lo que muchas veces puede comprometer la adhesión terapéutica, así como también producir un deterioro en la calidad de vida.
En esta tesis se han considerado las siguientes variables: los recursos psicológicos o estrategias de afrontamiento (pensamientos, sentimientos o conductas) que las personas VIH positivas con lipodistrofia utilizan para hacer frente a sus problemas de salud y su relación con la calidad de vida; otra variable es el género cuya evidencia empírica demuestra que hombres y mujeres no responden de la misma manera a la enfermedad y al tratamiento. Las anteriores variables se han analizado a partir de un estudio transcultural entre dos poblaciones, que aunque comparten similitudes como la lengua, son socio-económicamente distintas, tal es el caso de España y México.
Los dos grandes objetivos de este trabajo fueron; 1) identificar si hay diferencias en la calidad de vida entre la muestra de personas seropositivas española y la muestra de personas seropositivas mexicana y 2), identificar si hay diferencias en la calidad de vida de los sujetos con diagnóstico de lipodistrofia entre las dos muestras. Como parte de este segundo objetivo se plantearon diez objetivos específicos para examinar de forma detallada lo que sucede con las personas VIH positivas con lipodistrofia de ambas muestras.
Los resultados indican diferencias significativas en la calidad de vida entre las muestras de España y México, observándose una mayor pérdida de calidad de vida en los mexicanos VIH+, situación que se exacerba cuando presentan lipodistrofia y cuando son del género femenino.
En ambas muestras de sujetos seropositivos al VIH con lipodistrofia se observa el uso y frecuencia de distintas estrategias de afrontamiento, así como su repercusión eficaz o ineficaz sobre la calidad de vida. Por ejemplo, la estrategia de pensar con frecuencia o siempre que la enfermedad tiene algún aspecto positivo, produce menor pérdida de calidad de vida en todas las áreas que ésta contempla.
Por otro lado, la muestra de sujetos mexicanos con lipodistrofia utiliza con mayor frecuencia la estrategia de búsqueda de información acerca de su enfermedad en comparación con los sujetos españoles con lipodistrofia. Lo anterior se discute a partir de que aún en México los mismos profesionales de la salud discriminan y estigmatizan a las personas infectadas con el VIH, lo cual se ve reflejado en el poco tiempo que les dedican y la escasa información recibida.
A partir de los resultados hallados en esta tesis, se sugiere la urgente necesidad de diseñar programas de intervención para personas seropositivas al VIH con lipodistrofia a fin de aminorar el impacto negativo en su calidad de vida.

The appearance of anti-retroviral treatments has made possible the decrease in the number of deaths caused by AIDS. However, in spite of their benefits their numerous side effects cannot be ignored. Among them is the lipodystrophy syndrome, with a multifactorial etiology and characterised by metabolic alterations and changes in the distribution of body fat, producing visible morphological effects in the HIV-positive person. Its irreversibility makes lipodystrophy a condition difficult to deal with, and therefore it can often compromise adherence to the treatment, and produce a deterioration in quality of life.
In this doctoral thesis the following variables have been considered: the psychological resources or coping strategies (thoughts, feelings or behaviour) that HIV-positive people with lipodystrophy use to deal with their health problems and its connection with their quality of life; and gender, since empirical evidence indicates that men and women do not react in the same way to this illness and its treatment. The aforementioned variables have been analysed through a transcultural research of the sample populations of Spain and Mexico, which despite similarities such as the language, are socio-economically different.
The two major objectives of this research were: 1) identify if there are differences in quality of life between the sample of HIV-positive people in Spain and the sample of HIV-positive people in Mexico and 2) identify the differences in quality of life of the individuals with diagnosed lipodystrophy between the two samples. As part of this second objective, ten specific objectives were formulated to examine in detail the situation of HIV-positive people with lipodystrophy in both samples.
The results indicate significant differences in quality of life between the Spanish and Mexican samples: there is greater deterioration in the quality of life among the HIV-positive Mexicans, a situation aggravated when the subjects show lipodystrophy and are females.
In both samples of HIV-positive subjects with lipodystrophy, we can observe the use and frequency of different coping strategies, and their effective or ineffective repercussion on the subjects' quality of life. For example, the strategy of thinking frequently or always that this illness has some positive aspects produces less deterioration in all areas related to quality of life.
Moreover, the sample of Mexican subjects with lipodystrophy uses with greater frequency the strategy of looking for information on their illness, compared to the Spanish subjects with lipodystrophy. This is discussed in the context that nowadays in Mexico even health professionals still stigmatise and discriminate against people infected with AIDS, a fact which is made evident in the little time they dedicate to them and the scarce information the patients receive.
From the results of this doctoral thesis, the urgent necessity of designing intervention programs for HIV-positive people with lipodystrophy is recommended, in order to reduce the negative impact in their quality of life.

Existing literature indicates that individuals experience difficulties with disclosure. Disclosure involves revealing personal information about oneself, both verbally and non-verbally, that may be considered difficult or not disclosed previously, owing to one’s own negative feelings about the information, or a fear that others may respond judgmentally. Various research and theoretical models have aimed to provide explanations as to what facilitates and hinders the process of disclosure. However, to date, trainee counselling psychologists’ experiences of disclosure in personal therapy is under-represented, particularly within qualitative research. This research aimed to explore trainee counselling psychologists’ experiences of disclosure in personal therapy and its impact on personal and professional development. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with six trainee counselling psychologists in their final year of training and transcripts were analyzed using interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). Four master themes emerged from the analytic process: ‘Disclosing the self’; ‘The therapeutic process and disclosure’; ‘Process of disclosure’ and ‘Impact of disclosure: Personal and professional development’. The themes illustrate how trainee counselling psychologists’ initial difficulties with disclosure in therapy stem from their struggle with adopting a client role, their sense of the self as imperfect and a fear of rejection. Moreover, the findings highlight how this struggle results in the development of a divided and false self. The themes further illustrate how other factors within therapy facilitate and hinder disclosure, for instance, the therapist’s qualities and responses to disclosures. How and when disclosure takes place was also described by participants, illustrating that this experience is rather subjective. The participants also described how disclosure facilitated understanding of the self and the role of a counselling psychologist, enabling the integration of their dual roles. In light of these findings, suggestions for trainee counselling psychologists, qualified psychologists and training providers are made. These suggestions centre upon trainee counselling psychologists’ willingness to disclose, open discussions between therapists, trainees and training providers and additional training for therapists.

Kommunikation är en stor del av chefen och ledarens vardag, både som ett vardagligt inslag men även som ett verktyg för att kunna leda. Kommunikation kan påverkas av flera olika filter både när vi sänder ut ett budskap och när vi tar emot ett budskap. I chefen och ledarens vardag uppstår flera olika typer av samtal i mötet med medarbetarna, det vardagliga och det mer strukturella samtalet men också det svåra samtalet som framförallt påverkas av chefen och ledarens känslor, medarbetaren men även ämnet i sig.Vad i det svåra samtalet som uppfattas som svårt är komplext och individuellt. Syftet med denna studie är att beskriva och analysera upplevelser och erfarenheter kring svåra samtal hos personer i ledande position. För att på bästa sätt svara på studiens frågeställningar har semistrukturella intervjuer utförts som datainsamling där sju intervjuer gjorts. Resultatet av intervjuerna visar att samtliga intervjuade chefer upplever osäkerhet inför de svåra samtalen och känslor som bubblar upp inom dem själva under samtalet men framför allt en osäkerhet i hanteringen kring de eventuella reaktioner som kan tänkas komma från mottagaren. Flertalet av cheferna upplevde de situationer där de inte riktigt har kontroll som svårare än de situationer de tidigare haft erfarenhet kring. Resultatet visar att rent erfarenhetsmässigt så förbereder sig de flesta chefer inför de svårare samtalen genom att tänka sig in i olika situationer som kan ske och på så sätt mentalt förbereder sig inför olika reaktioner från mottagaren. Samtliga chefer är väldigt måna om sina medarbetare och att det är i denna omtanke som vissa svårigheter kan uppstå. Dock menar de att de upplever att det är viktigt att skapa en relation med sin arbetsgrupp för att på så sätt lära känna varandra. Resultatet har analyserats med inspiration av Charmaz teori och Grounded theory.
Communication is a large part of the managers everyday life, both as an everyday element but also as a tool for being able to lead. Communication can be influenced by several different filters both when we send out communication and when we receive communication. In the managers everyday life, several different types of conversation a rise in the personal meeting with the employees, the everyday and the more structural conversation, but also the difficult conversation that is mainly affected by the managers feelings, the employee’s feelings but also the subject itself. What in the difficult conversation that is perceived as difficult is complex and individual. The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze feelings and experiences about difficult conversations with people in a leading position. In order to answer the questions of this study, semi-structural interviews have been carried out as data collection where seven interviews have been conducted. The results of the interviews showed that all interviewed managers experience uncertainty before the difficult conversations and feelings that are bubbling up within themselves during the conversation, but above all an uncertainty in the handling of the possible reactions that may come from the employee. The result shows that purely experiential, most managers are preparing for the more difficult conversations by thinking about different situations that can happen and through that mentally preparing for different reactions from the employee. All managers are very keen on their employees and that it is in this regard that some difficulties may a rise. However, they mean that they feel it is important to create a relationship with their employees in order to get to know each other. The result has been analyzed with inspiration from Charmaz theory and Grounded theory.

Candidates’ attitudes towards various personnel selection methods get attention of organizational and work psychology specialists because of various reasons. The most important reason is that individuals’ attitudes towards personnel selection methods influence their latter behavior. Although there is a substantial amount of studies carried out in different countries, there is no data from Lithuanian and Swedish samples. The aim of current study was to analyze the attitudes towards personnel selection methods among Lithuanian students, Lithuanian employees and Swedish students. The participants (197 students and 86 employees) filled in a questionnaire, which includes short descriptions of 10 personnel selection methods as well as items about fairness of these methods. According to the results of the study, work-sample tests were ranked as the fairest personnel selection method in the Lithuanian sample. The fairest personnel selection methods in Swedish sample were work-sample tests, interview, resumes, and personal references. Lithuanian students ranked the fairness of written ability test and honesty test more favorably than Swedish students, but Swedish students tended to rank as more favorable interview, resumes, personal references and personal contacts. Personal contacts and graphology were ranked the lowest on fairness dimension in Lithuanian sample, and Swedes ranked only graphology as the least fair personnel selection method. Lithuanian employees ranked personal references, personal contacts and graphology more favorably than Lithuanian students. In Lithuanian students sample, perception of personnel selection method as a scientifically proved, logic and precise or providing an opportunity to show one’s skills, had the strongest connection with favorability ranking of personnel selection method’s fairness. In the Lithuanian employees and the Swedish students samples, perception of the method as logic or providing an opportunity to show one’s skills, had the strongest link with fairness.

The study presents how school leaders think about relational work within the school (teacher-student), that is, interpersonal meetings in the school and what significance they think they have for students' schooling. The focus is on the relationship between teacher and pupil and on the social climate, where attitudes and approaches that permeate the business is in focus. We have also investigated the principal's responsibilities and the views of pupils with school difficulties. Topics that are raised in connection are attitudes and thoughts about individual and general accommodations and what significance socio-economic background can have for the student's school situation. The study is qualitative with interview as method. The study involved 5 school leaders who are all educated and have worked a long time whithin the schoolsystem. As a theoretical starting point, we have been partly inspired by Bronfennbrenner's (1979) ecological systems theory is about how different people and things in the student's microsystem affect their development. We have been inspired by a phenomenographic approach in interpreting the results to explain and analyze the thoughts and opinions that are the same and different. The results of the interviews indicate that relational work within the school (teacher-student) is considered to be important for student' schooling, but that there are factors that sometimes make this work more difficult. Some difficulties described are the teachers' workload and inexperienced or untrained teachers. Furthermore, the interviewees see that there is a great responsibility of the principals and how they lead the school both organizationally and by creating a school culture and a good social climate. The interviewees also describe that teaching outside the classroom can sometimes be needed, but it must not be a permanent solution. After the results we discuss the thoughts and experiences that emerged in the interviews through the previous research is presented. The conclusion is that more collaboration is needed between different professions within the school but also with other authorities. The workload of teachers and principals needs to strike a balance so that relational work within the school (teacher-student) can take as much space as the work towards knowledge acquisition. Also, the we need educated teachers who can do this.

L'objectif de cette thèse a été d'étudier les réactions aux tests de sélection d'une population d'origine maghrébine et d'une population d'origine française, en position de demandeurs d'emploi. D'abord, nous avons analysé la relation entre des variables attitudinnelles (comme la motivation à réussir les tests et l'auto-efficacité) avec les variables de justice face à différents tests de sélection. Ensuite, nous avons conçu un modèle chrono?causal portant sur les réactions des candidats à un poste de travail appartenant à une population minoritaire et à une population majoritaire, avant et après avoir passé le processus de sélection. Les résultats de cette étude ont mis en évidence que la relation entre le groupe d'appartenance ethnique et la performance au test d'aptitude cognitive est médiatisée par les perceptions de la justice globale. Cela nous amène à croire qu'une partie des différences de performance entre les groupes minoritaire et majoritaire peuvent être expliquées par les perceptions de justice. Après la constatation de ces résultats, nous avons mis en place deux moyens susceptibles d'améliorer les perceptions de justice des demandeurs d'emploi et en particulier du groupe minoritaire. Plus précisément, nous avons étudié l'impact des procédure de sélection anonymes sur les perceptions de justice, ainsi que le rôle joué par les informations concernant les tests avant le processus de sélection. Sur le plan pratique, les recherches entreprises ici pourront apporter des réponses afin d'améliorer les performances au cours de ces évaluations et ainsi améliorer les chances d'insertion pour les populations ayant les plus de difficultés sur le marché du travail
The aim of this thesis was to study test reactions regarding North African minority group and French majority group, as job seekers. We analysed the relationship among attitudinal variables as test-taking motivation, self-efficacy, justice perceptions and test performance. Then, we proposed a chrono?causal model on applicant test reactions. In this model, we measured test reactions at different times: before and after applicants passing the tests. Results indicated that the relationship between ethnic group membership and test performance id fully mediated by global justice perceptions, providing evidence that some portion of the minority-majority group differences in test performance may be explained through differences in justice perceptions. We then tested two potential ways influencing justice perceptions during personnel selection. We analysed the impact of anonymous procedures and the role of test information (concerning the selection procedures) on justice perceptions. On practical level, these studies could be useful in order to improve test performance during the selection procedures. In this way, a better test performance could enhance the possibility regarding the integration of minority population into the job market

Syftet med min deduktiva och kvalitativa studie är att skapa förståelse för visuell representation av HBTQIA+ personer i ett kommersiellt tv-program. Hur historiska subjektspositioner kan tänkas vidhålla gamla normer inom en subkultur. Genom en kritisk diskursanalys kommer jag att titta på både det som visas och det som saknar i bilden. Resultatet blev fyra olika teman som fick representera olika delar av mina observationer utifrån hierarki, privata berättelser, en nedärvd kultur och extrem objektifiering. Slutsatsen är att där finns en komplexitet i att göra kommersiell tv av en historisk händelse som ballroom-kulturen, som hade som syfte att skapa aktivistisk förändring. Representationen av deltagarna bygger på en förlegad och stereotyp bild från en historisk tid. För att lyckas förändra samhällsnormer måste vi alla, oavsett sexualitet vara villiga att bidra till dem.
The purpose of my deductive and qualitative study is to create an understanding of visual representation of LGBTQIA + people in a commercial television program. How historical subject positions can be thought to maintain old norms within a subculture. Through a critical discourse analysis, I will look at both what is shown and what is missing in the picture. The result was four different themes that could represent different parts of my observations based on hierarchy, private stories, an inherited culture, and extreme objectification. The conclusion is that there is a complexity in making commercial television of a historical event such as the ballroom culture, which aimed to create activist change. The representation of the participants is based on an outdated and stereotypical image from a historical time. To succeed in changing societal norms, we must all, regardless of sexuality, be willing to contribute to them

This paper explores the utility of Weingarten's (2003) witness positions in the understanding of compassion fatigue in people who care for their own family members with AIDS. The research is embedded in Weingarten's theory of witnessing and narrative theory and practice. The literature review explores the shift from hospital-based care to community/home-based care which has led to family members assuming the role of caring for their family members with AIDS, an overview of the effects of caring for AIDS patients on caregivers and an overview of Weingarten's (2003) theory of witnessing with special emphasis on the witnessing positions and their consequences. Interviews, based on narrative theory and practice in which Weingarten's theory is rooted, gave access to the participants' experiences, which were then analysed and interpreted through a framework developed from the witnessing theory. This article demonstrates the utility of Weingarten's (2003) theory of witnessing to people who are caregivers to their own family members with AIDS. I argue that witness positions occupied by caregivers during witnessing determine whether the caregivers will experience compassion fatigue. The negative consequences related to compassion fatigue that will be reviewed could probably be prevented through active, intentional, compassionate witnessing.

The study also attempted to determine if these application forms are in violation of EEOC regulations pertaining to pre-employment practices and whether classification based on the districts' size, wealth, student ethnicity and geographical location has a bearing on the degree of compliance with and awareness of EEOC and THRCA regulations. A model employment application form and set of guidelines were developed for school districts to use in securing pre-employment information. Inferential statistics were used through various applicable designs. Three different types of analysis were utilized. These were a Descriptive Analysis, a Goodman- Kruskal Gamma (y) Coefficient—chi-square analysis and a Multiple Regression analysis. The descriptive analysis included the calculation of percentages of the suspect questions appearing on teacher and administrator application forms utilizing the Criteria Used to Determine EEO Compliance and Awareness Among Texas School Districts. The Goodman-Kruskal Gamma (y) Coefficient and the chi-square analysis were employed in order to determine differences in compliance and awareness based on the districts' size, wealth, student ethnicity and geographical location. The GAMTAU. ASC Computer Program was used to test the Gamma values, with a standard z-score. The Multiple Regression analysis was employed to determine to what extent variation in the use of total suspect questions correlated with size, wealth, ethnicity and geographical location. The results of the data analyzed reveal that the size and ethnicity of the school district had a weak but significant correlation with EEO compliance and awareness based on employment application forms for teachers and administrators and that school districts in Texas were not in compliance with EEOC and THRCA regulations regarding application form pre-employment practices.

This master thesis is focused on the analysis of payment responsibilities and entitlements resulting from these responsibilities to benefits for employees and self-employed persons in the long term period. The main aim of this thesis is to determine the overall net position of a model employee and self-employed person towards public budgets. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical one. In the theoretical part there are analyzed tax burden of model subjects and their benefits arising from participation in the subsystems of the social security. In the beginning of the practical part there are determined assumptions of the model. Based on the assumptions a comparison of tax burden and received benefits of model subjects has been made and consequently the net position of the model subjects in the researched subsystem has been calculated. The last subchapter of practical part summarizes the total net position of model employee and self-employed person towards public budgets.

La prévention des risques psychosociaux et la promotion de la qualité de vie au travail a suscité un fort intérêt ces dernières années. Cependant, les mécanismes psychologiques qui expliquent ces liens ne sont pas encore suffisamment affirmés. Afin de mieux comprendre les mécanismes en jeu, notre travail de recherche s’est centré sur la justice organisationnelle dans une perspective théorique et appliquée. Notre objectif principal a été d’apporter une contribution efficace aux connaissances sur les liens entre le management juste et les états affectifs, l’engagement, le burnout et d’autres variables en lien étroit avec le bien-être et les attitudes positives au travail. Concrètement, nous avons souhaité apporter des preuves empiriques pour une application du management juste à la prévention du burnout au travail. Notre travail a consisté à mettre à l’épreuve un modèle relationnel au moyen de 4 études. D’abord, deux études corrélationnelles ont été menées, l’une sur le climat de justice et l’autre sur des événements spécifiques de justice. Les résultats de ces deux premières études montrent que les perceptions de justice sont bien associées au burnout et à l’engagement au travail par la médiation des affects positifs et négatifs. Ensuite, deux études expérimentales ont été menées afin de vérifier les relations de cause à effet entre les perceptions de justice et les états affectifs. L’une des études a porté sur des scénarios comme vecteur des perceptions de justice et la dernière étude a été menée dans des organisations via des formations aux encadrants d’équipe afin de valider les résultats en contexte naturel et faire naître une réflexion sur l’application des formations au management juste. Les liens mis en évidence par ces études ont permis de développer une meilleure compréhension des effets de justice dans le vécu émotionnel, cognitif et comportemental sur le plan de la recherche mais aussi d’affiner les réflexions sur la prévention de la santé au travail
The prevention of psychosocial risks and promoting the quality of working life has attracted great interest in recent years. However, the psychological mechanisms behind these links are not yet sufficiently affirmed. To better understand the mechanisms involved, our research has focused on organizational justice in a theoretical and applied perspective. Our main goal was to make an effective contribution to knowledge about the links between the right management and affective states, commitment, burnout and other variables closely with the well-being and positive work attitudes. Specifically, we wanted to bring empirical evidence to a fair application of management in the prevention of burnout at work. Our job was to test a relational model with 4 studies. First, two correlational studies have been conducted, one on climate justice and the other on specific events of justice. The results of these early studies show that perceptions of justice are associated with burnout and commitment to work through the mediation of positive and negative affect. Then, two experimental studies were conducted to verify the relationship of cause and effect between perceptions of justice and affective states. One of the studies focused on scenarios as vector perceptions of justice and the last study was conducted in organizations through training to team supervisors to validate the results in natural context and give birth to a reflection on the Application training at the right management. The links highlighted by these studies were used to develop a better understanding of the effects of justice in the emotional experience, cognitive and behavioral in terms of research but also to refine the reflections on the prevention of occupational health

The main objective of this dissertation is to develop and broaden the scientific knowledge about personal resource development as a strategy to promote employees' psychological wellbeing and performance at work. For this purpose, some research questions are raised that address the needs of both researchers and evidence-based practitioners. These research questions are addressed in several chapters that include empirical studies and an integrative review and investigate the phenomena both at work and in an educational context. The main conclusions shed light on the usefulness of conducting interventions that combine the development of different personal resources as a cost-effective strategy for promoting psychological wellbeing and performance at work. They also reveal the relevance of obtaining a training transfer to daily work life to achieve the interventions' sustainability.
El principal objetivo de la presente tesis doctoral es profundizar en el conocimiento científico sobre el desarrollo de recursos personales en el trabajo como estrategia para incrementar el bienestar psicológico y el desempeño de las personas que conforman la organización. Para ello se plantean diferentes preguntas de investigación, con la intención de atender a necesidades tanto del ámbito de la investigación como de la actividad profesional basada en la evidencia. Estas preguntas de investigación se responden a lo largo de una serie de capítulos basados en estudios empíricos y una revisión integrativa, que estudian el fenómeno tanto en el ámbito profesional con empleados y empleadas como pre-profesional con estudiantes. Las principales conclusiones arrojan luz sobre la utilidad de realizar intervenciones que combinen el desarrollo de diversos recursos personales para incrementar de una forma costo-efectiva el bienestar psicológico y el desempeño en el ámbito laboral. Notre thèse interroge la place et le statut de la fonction de surveillance dans les établissements secondaires publics dont elle est demeurée le parent pauvre au regard des missions de formation et de transmission. Pourquoi, en dépit de son caractère indispensable, est-elle si peu valorisée et n’est-elle pas devenue une profession ? Incontestablement, la fonction de surveillance et le maintien de la discipline dans leur évolution ont subi des mutations. Or, de quelle nature sont-elles ? A quels mécanismes de fonctionnement et finalités éducatives répondent-elles ? Et qu’en résulte-t-il de leurs influences sur les pratiques professionnelles des surveillants actuels ? Pour répondre à ces questions, la thèse adopte une approche socio-historique, à savoir une exploration historique de la fonction de surveillance, articulée à une étude sociologique de caractère empirique de la réalité contemporaine de la surveillance et du maintien de la discipline. Elle a pour cadre conceptuel et théorique l’analyse institutionnelle. L’identification et l’analyse des évolutions concernant la surveillance et le maintien de la discipline montrent que ces derniers ont connu des régressions mais aussi des innovations inédites. Au 19e siècle, l’enseignement secondaire reposait sur l’internat dont la fonction de surveillance et de maintien de la discipline en était la cheville ouvrière alors qu’étaient décriées leurs compétences éducatives et le régime disciplinaire vertical répressif et coercitif dont ils étaient l’incarnation. Les tentatives de leur revalorisation visaient la suppression du « dualisme » entre la fonction de surveillance et le professorat. La réforme issue de la commission Ribot (1898) réussira ce rapprochement mais la fonction et le maintien de la discipline en sortiront déqualifiés. Toutefois, au 20e siècle, convaincus que l’avenir de la fonction ne sera pas la voie du professorat, la surveillance et le maintien de la discipline investiront le champ éducatif en s’inspirant des méthodes de l’Education nouvelle où le cadre disciplinaire est celui de l’autodiscipline. Cependant, face aux conservatismes mais également en raison de la cohabitation antagonique d’un pouvoir disciplinaire vertical des adultes et celui transversal des élèves, les expériences en la matière demeureront vaines. La fonction actuelle s’inscrit dans l’accompagnement social qui répond à une « souffrance » alors qu’émergent paradoxalement au sein de l’institution scolaire des dispositifs coercitifs impliquant des institutions dont les pratiques professionnelles de leurs acteurs rejoignent celles des surveillants. Il s’agit bien là d’un contrôle social, notamment, depuis que la notion de lutte contre la violence et l’insécurité s’est substituée à celle de maintien de la discipline. Au total, le principal résultat de notre thèse réside dans la mise en lumière de l’évolution de la fonction de surveillance dans l’enseignement secondaire public, considérée sur un siècle et demi, à l’intersection de sa finalité éducative, de sa place au sein de l’institution scolaire et des logiques sociales qui la sous-tendent
Our thesis questions the way surveillance and order are maintained in secondary public schools, but also the reasons why supervising positions have remained under looked. Why these latter, singular and essential, are not valued and a real career path? Undeniably, the surveillance position and maintenance of discipline have changed along the way. But what kind of changes ? To what operating mechanisms and educational goals do they respond to ? What impact do they have on current supervisors professional behavior? To answer that, this thesis has a socio-historic approach with institutional Analysis as conceptual and theoretical framework. The identification and analysis of developments on the supervision and maintenance of discipline show that they have experienced regressions but also unprecedented innovations. In the 19th century, secondary education was based on boarding schools, in which surveillance and maintenance of discipline was the cornerstone even though their educational skills and the repressive and coercive vertical disciplinary regime they embodied was being decried. Attempts at their revaluation sought the removal of "dualism" between the surveillance function and teaching staff. The reform from the Ribot commission achieved this reunion but the position and maintenance of discipline were unqualified. Yet, in the 20th century, convinced that the future of this position will not be through teaching, surveillance and maintenance of discipline will enter education inspired by methods from New Education, where the disciplinary framework is a self-government. However, against conservatism but also because of the antagonistic coexistence of a vertical disciplinary power by adults and transversal by students, experiences in this area will remain unsuccessful. The current position is part of social support that responds to a "suffering" while paradoxically emerge within the school institution coercive systems involving institutions whose professional practices join those of supervisors. It is indeed social control, especially since the concept of fighting violence and insecurity has taken over maintenance of discipline. Thus, the interest of our thesis is to shine a light on the evolving state of surveillance and maintenance of discipline so that their functional logic, education purposes and matter of their right place and role are made intelligible

Syfte: Syftet var att undersöka vilken kännedom och hantering av rutiner samt vilket preventivt arbete som legitimerad vårdpersonal i ledarställning inom primärvård har om missbruk och beroende hos anställd legitimerad vårdpersonal. Metod: Studien har genomförts som en deskriptiv enkätstudie. En kvantitativ metod valdes för att få nå en större population under en kort tidsperiod. Resultat: I studien framkom att majoriteten av de tillfrågade respondenterna i ledarställning hade ledarskapsutbildning och det ingick för de flesta om missbruk och beroende. Studien visar att de arbetar mer eller mindre preventivt med missbruk och beroendefrågor hos sin personal. Det framkommer att legitimerad vårdpersonal i ledarställning anser sig ha tillräcklig kännedom om missbruk och beroende. De belyser vikten av vidareutbildning inom området samt att de behövs diskuteras mer på arbetsplatsträffar om missbruk och beroende. Slutsats: I studien framkommer att de arbetar preventivt genom att använda den lokala rutin som finns rörande alkohol och missbruk. De lokala rutinerna hos landstinget och kommunerna skiljer sig åt då landstinget har en gemensam rutin för hela Dalarna, medan kommunerna har egna rutiner. Vidare framkommer att legitimerad vårdpersonal i ledarställning har kunskap om missbruk och beroende.
Aim : The purpose was to investigate what awareness and management of routines as well as the preventive work that registered healthcare personnel in leadership position in primary care have regarding abuse and addiction to employee- registered healthcare personnel. Method: The study has been conducted as a descriptive survey. A quantitative method was chosen to reach a larger population for a short period of time. Result: The study found that the majority of respondents in leadership positions had leadership training and most of them had education about addiction and abuse. The study shows that they work more or less preventively with addiction and abuse to their staff. It appears that legitimate healthcare personnel in management positions consider themselves sufficiently knowledgeable about addiction and abuse. They highlight the importance of further training in the field and that they are needed to discuss more at workplace meetings about addiction and abuse. Conclusion: The study shows that they work preventively by using the local policy regarding alcohol and addiction. The local routines are different between council and the communities and differences are that the council has a common policy for the whole of Dalarna, while the communities have their own policies. Furthermore, it appears that registered healthcare personnel in management positions have knowledge of addiction and abuse.

Borderlands. Swedish youth care in the intersections of care and punishment This dissertation concerns staff working in special residential homes, or secure units, for boys and young men and, less specifically, the compulsory care of problematic teenagers. The study is based on interviews with staff members and participatory observations of daily practices at a compulsorycare institution. The empirical material is complemented by observations of learning situations and interviews with students and teachers in education of social pedagogy. The aim of the thesis is to map out and to analyse understandings of, and motivations for, compulsory care that is produced and sustained through articulations of residing teenagers, treatment practices and institutional staff in the daily work, and in staff narratives, at a secure unit for compulsory care. Three aspects of compulsory care are analysed: constructions of teenagers, of treatment practices and of subject positions or identity of staff. Concepts and ideas from a post-structural framework are used as theoretical tools to conduct analysis of the interviews and observations. Discourse, as well as a three-fold concept of logics, is central for the analysis. As a theoretical complement to the main analytical framework, perspectives from symbolic interactionism are used. The results of the thesis show that tensions and ambivalence characterise compulsory care for adolescents. Aspects of care as well as of punishment, for example, are both evident parts of the institutional work and narratives studied. The teenagers are alternately being constructed as children in need and as manipulative criminals: articulations that are made part of either a logic of care or a logic of punishment. Other tensions that are analysed as significant parts of institutional practices and subject positions are those of the biological and the social, theory and practice, and power and powerlessness. Age, gender and class are all significant parts in constructing subject positions for both teenagers and staff and in creating a division between the two groups. Such categorisations are articulated together in various ways in the different logics identified. These subject positions also have consequences for institutional interactions and for the institutional care provided in secure units.

Abstract:
The primary purpose of this study is to identify those people at most risk of being bullied at work. While much research is being conducted on school bullying, little has been conducted on workplace bullying. Using data gathered from a 2004 study conducted by the National Opinion Research Center for the General Social Survey, which included a Quality of Work Life (QWL) module for the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), linear regressions indicated significant findings. As predicted, workers in lower level occupations, as ranked by prestige scoring developed at National Opinion Research, are more likely to be victimized. Data also suggest that being young, Black, and relatively uneducated may contribute to being bullied in certain situations. Future research is needed to examine influences of socio-economic, legal, and other demographic factors that may predict the chance of being bullied.
