Abstract:
The ultimate purpose of this project was to improve on a new electric form of transportation. These methods of transportation have been gaining popularity for those who have relatively short commutes, and this project poises that group as the target audience. As a result of these trends and the practicality of small personal transportation, the design team made the purpose to attain usable real-world practicality and walking replacement ability. Other types of devices have been created before, however they usually have a short ride time and do not go much faster than the average walking speed.

Abstract:
The purpose of this work was to investigate how a last mile-transport vehicle can be constructed around a shoe. The prototype, which is controlled without a handheld controller, was designed to propel an adult forward with the use of an electric driveline. The user can easily stop driving, and instead walk short distances without removing the prototype. Research questions have been answered regarding how the battery and motor can be configured to reach a top speedof 15 km/h and a range of 3 km. In addition, answers were given as to how a user should control the vehicle’s speed in a safe and si

Abstract:

Abstract:
Today, numerous alternative modes of mobility are emerging to provide a solution to the problems created by the automobile. This research envisions a future where transportation in urban areas will be dominated by small personal mobility devices (PMDs) instead of automobiles. This Intelligent Mobility System (IMS) would be a car-free zone where people travel by a shared-system of PMDs providing levels of mobility greater than walking but less than a car. This research effort focuses on the operational aspects of this future system by studying PMD performance characteristics as inputs for a

Abstract:
This thesis examines the understandings and meanings of personal blogging from the perspective of blog authors. The theoretical framework draws on a symbolic interactionist perspective, focusing on how meaning is constructed through blogging practices, supplemented by theories of mediation and critical technology studies. The principal evidence in this study is derived from an analysis of in-depth interviews with bloggers selected to maximise their diversity based on the results of an initial survey. This is supplemented by an analysis of personal blogging’s technical contexts and of various s

Abstract:
There is not much research done on how traffic noise on schoolyards affect children and teachers although noise pollution from traffic often are high and affect both groups in several ways. It is a well-established fact that a positive sound environment affects health and learning as well as the working capacity by reducing stress levels. The purpose of this study is to examine whether sound pollution is prevalent in elementary schools in Umeå, if the personnel have knowledge pertaining to the effects of sound pollution, and whether the examined schools have specific routines and self-monitori
