Abstract:
Entrepreneurship has been referred to as an economical model for many years; however, the study of entrepreneurship from a psychological perspective is fairly young. Recent literature has focused largely on analyzing the personality characteristics of entrepreneurs and comparing them to wage or salary employed workers. Understanding the personality characteristics of entrepreneurs is vitally important in understanding entrepreneurship, and therefore, the economy as a whole. This study utilizes concepts from past literature and findings from empirical studies in order to assess the personality characteristics associated with successful entrepreneurship. Ultimately, the characteristics; achievement motivation, locus of control, innovation, risk tendencies, and tenacity are analyzed and depicted as the five most important personality characteristics for successful entrepreneurs.

Abstract:
Previous research has suggested that there is a strong and positive relationship between being an entrepreneur and possessing a high degree of subjective well-being as well as job satisfaction. The big five personality traits have also been argued to be significantly related to both subjective well-being and job satisfaction. Little is however known if personality affects entrepreneurs and regular employees differently. In this paper the impact of personality traits on the cognitive part of subjective well-being as well as job satisfaction are investigated separately among entrepreneurs and regular employees. This is done through OLS-regressions using a Swedish nationally representative survey Employment, Material Resources, and Political Preferences (EMRAPP), where entrepreneurs were oversampled in order to be able to compare entrepreneurs (N = 2483) and regular employees (N = 2642). The findings suggest that there is no substantial difference between entrepreneurs and regular employees when looking at the relationship between personality traits and subjective well-being. Findings on job satisfaction on the other hand showed that the personality trait openness to experience had no impact on job satisfaction, and that the personality trait emotional stability (neuroticism reversed) was equally beneficial for both entrepreneurs and regular employees. Extraversion had a positive relationship with job satisfaction among both entrepreneurs and regular employees, although the relationship was twice as strong among entrepreneurs. The personality traits agreeableness and conscientiousness on the other hand were only related to job satisfaction among entrepreneurs. Personality traits are thus much more important for job satisfaction among entrepreneurs.

Sibeko, Sphumelele. "Exploring narcissism as an influential personality trait for established entrepreneurs." Diss., University of Pretoria, 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/2263/75277.

Abstract:
Research focused on gaining a better understanding of the entrepreneurial personality and related psychological characteristics continues to be of interest. Narcissism has often been associated with the entrepreneurial personality, with some scholars highlighting how it is a personality trait that is central to entrepreneurship. Narcissism has also been suggested as having significant positive and negative influences on the entrepreneurial journey. This research study set out to explore the narcissistic traits of established entrepreneurs so as to gain deeper insights into the prevalence of narcissism, and also to understand how it influences the entrepreneurial journey both positively and negatively. The study employed a qualitative, exploratory approach in order to gain new insights and a deeper understanding of the dynamic between narcissism and entrepreneurship. 12 in-depth interviews were conducted with established entrepreneurs across various industries. The findings of the study indicated the prevalence of narcissistic traits among established entrepreneurs. The study contributed to existing literature through emerging insights related to a dynamic of identity separation among entrepreneurs that involved an Authentic Identity and an Entrepreneur Identity. Also, the positive and negative influences of narcissistic traits on the entrepreneur’s personal development as well as their business journey provided new insights.

Abstract:
International Entrepreneurship (IE) has its origins from international business and entrepreneurship research. Contemplating three main frameworks, knowledge-based view, upper echelons theory and cognitive perspective, this research aims to contribute to a better understanding of the internationalization process and the role of the entrepreneur’s characteristics. The study analyzes the influence of the entrepreneur’s personality and entrepreneurial characteristics as well as the firm characteristics and the influence of the latter on internationalization. The following objectives were defined: i) develop a well-structured framework for the internationalization process; ii) identify entrepreneurial characteristics at the individual and firm level relevant to internationalization; and iii) distinguish INVs from DNVs regarding the entrepreneurial mindset. Hypotheses were tested through a survey data combined with secondary data provided by eInforma D&B database for Portuguese INVs and DNVs founded between 2004 and 2013. The results provided empirical support for the relationships between several entrepreneur’s personality characteristics and entrepreneurial characteristics. Additionally, an association was found between individual entrepreneurial orientation and individual entrepreneurial intent. There was also empirical support for relationships between individual entrepreneurial characteristics and the firm’s entrepreneurial and international orientation. Furthermore, international orientation was positively related to the type of venture and the firm’s export percentage. The present research provided a different level approach highlighting the role of the entrepreneur whose personality and entrepreneurial characteristics are determinant to the firm’s identity and its internationalization.

Abstract:
To date, the usual analysis of an entrepreneur personality is primarily a gut feeling of the venture capitalist and is hard to codify. This paper aims to explore in a qualitative way what it is about the characteristics and the personality of the entrepreneur that influences the investment made by the venture capitalists. These findings will then be used to discuss if an artificial intelligence application can be used to analyze the personality of entrepreneurs. The primary source of information for this paper is interviews with venture capitalists. The authors searched for similarities within the available literature on entrepreneurial personalities and found that the majority of the personality traits mentioned by the venture capitalist can be found in the literature.  The research findings suggest that all venture capitalist value an entrepreneur that has passion for what she is doing and has the ability to get the job done. Additionally, most of the venture capitalist interviewed value an entrepreneur that is coachable, flexible, visionary, and is able to communicate that vision well.  Finally, based on the results, the authors proposed a framework for how an artificial intelligence system can be structured to assess personalities of entrepreneurs.

Morallane, Mary Harriet. "The relationship between personality traits and cognitive adaptability of established entrepreneurs." Thesis, University of Pretoria, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/2263/60510.

Full text
Abstract:
Cognitive adaptability has been conceptualised as the ability to effectively and appropriately change decision policies (i.e. to learn) given feedback (inputs) from the environmental context in which cognitive processing is embedded. Based on a large sample of 2650 established entrepreneurs in South Africa, this study attempts to determine how entrepreneurs cognitively adapt to unpredictable entrepreneurial environments. Multidimensional constructs representing cognitive adaptability and the Big Five personality traits were operationalised and empirically investigated. It was hypothesised that the Big Five personality trait dimensions of openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion and agreeableness are positively related to the cognitive adaptability dimensions of goal orientation, metacognitive knowledge, metacognitive experience, and metacognitive choice and monitoring. Neuroticism was hypthesised to be negatively related to the cognitive adaptability dimensions of goal orientation, metacognitive knowledge, metacognitive experience, metacognitive choice and monitoring. Hypotheses were tested using structured equation modelling and correlational and regression analysis. Results provide support for subcomponents of the Big Five personality traits. Intellectual interest (openness to experience), goal striving (conscientiousness), activity (extraversion), prosocial orientation (agreeableness) were found to be positively related to cognitive adaptability. They were found to be negatively related to prior metacognitive knowledge. Self-reproach (neuroticism) was found to be negatively related to cognitive adaptability. It was found to be positively related to prior metacognitive knowledge. This research builds on and extends existing literature on cognitive adaptability in an entrepreneurial context by bringing together two streams of literature from psychology metacognition and personality traits. The implications of the process for dynamic, adaptable thinking are important in an emerging context such as that found in South Africa. The results of this study will inform the practice of policy makers who are trying to encourage start-up entrepreneurs to think about thinking in unpredictable entrepreneurial environments. In terms of methodology, the use of a sample of established entrepreneurs is desirable for this type of research since metacognition is better studied in entrepreneurs who are involved in a series of activities.

Abstract:
The personality approach to entrepreneurship has often been criticized and disproved due to inconsistencies in findings and heterogeneity of concepts used to describe entrepreneurs. With  the vast amount of data created by individuals on social media day by day, along with technology advancements, one can look into personality more objectively. In this paper, the authors propose a quantitative method to analyse the Big 5 personality traits, values and needs by using IBM Watson to examine tweets from twitter accounts of 99 successful techentrepreneurs and 99 non-entrepreneurs. It is further argued that through statistical methods, tech entrepreneurs show a common set of distinctive characteristics when compared to non-entrepreneurs. Among the results, 9 Big 5 personality traits, 2 needs and 7 values are shown to be statistically different between both sample groups and therefore, tech entrepreneurs tend to evince a certain personality.

Abstract:
Entrepreneurship is becoming increasingly important to the success of global economies. As a result, this paper assesses the similarities and differences between male and female entrepreneurs in facets that are fundamental to the practice; risk-tolerance, communication and leadership styles. Literature on the subject suggests that men and women differ in these three aspects. Men emerge as entrepreneurs more frequently than women, which has partially been accredited to socialization. Moreover, women are exposed to fewer social and financial resources and opportunities. However, the data suggest that women are equally capable as entrepreneurs. This paper analyzes the interaction of innate psychological qualities and societal influences in the context of entrepreneurship. It proceeds to provide implications and suggestions in order to increase gender diversity and provide equal opportunity.

Abstract:
Recent research has concluded that personality factors influence entrepreneurial success. This study used a causal steps approach, to test a model that included effectuation and causation decision processes as mediators and environmental uncertainty as a moderator, in the relationship between personality and venture success. Conscientiousness and openness, two relevant big five personality dimensions, were shown to be positively related to the use of causation and effectuation decision logic depending on the level of uncertainty in the environment. The level of causation was further linked to venture revenue growth being more successful in low uncertainty environments supporting its nomination as a mediator for personality. Consequences for entrepreneurship research are discussed and recommendations made for further research in this area. Copyright

Abstract:
Background:  Over the years, traditional entrepreneurs started businesses due to either pull or push factors within their environments. Research has been carried out in profiling different types of entrepreneurs and their characteristics. The social media influencers are new forms of entrepreneurs who recently appeared due to changes in the technological environments. The existence of social media platforms has enhanced the possibility of entrepreneurial activities online. The platforms are available for everyone, but some have more entrepreneurial orientation or characteristics than others.  Purpose: The aim of this research is to measure the entrepreneurial orientation and the characteristics of social media users, compare social media influencers with other social media users, to determine if differences exist. Methods:       This research uses the Individual Entrepreneurial Orientation scale (Bolton & Lane, 2012) and the Individual Personality Traits measuring scale (Al Mamun, Bin Yusoff, & Ibrahim, 2018). This is a deductive study, testing the above-mentioned theories on social media users, and a quantitative study aided using data collected from online survey. Conclusion:   The results of this study show that Social Media Influencer have higher entrepreneurial traits than non-Social Media Influencers.  The result also supports the three-factor structure and satisfactory reliability of the IEO scales and subscales. Subsequently, I found out that non-SMIs do create online contents and carry out entrepreneurial activities online too.

Sischarenco, Elena. "Italian entrepreneurs of the construction business in a time of economic recession : ideas, strategies and movements." Thesis, University of St Andrews, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/10023/11088.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis is based on an ethnographic study of entrepreneurs of the construction business in Lombardy, Northern Italy. The aim is to gain some understanding of this business, of entrepreneurialism, and of individuals in a non-stereotypical light through a full and complex account of their daily lives. The aim is to reveal the thoughts, actions and strategies of particular local actors in their everyday contingency and contradictoriness. No attempt is made to simplify the complexity of their understandings and practices for the sake of producing a single encompassing and consistent image. Many similarities were found between the practices of entrepreneurialism and those of the discipline of anthropology. Knowledge and information are constantly sought after but are recognised as emerging in unexpected places and times and as being socially negotiated. Apprenticeship is often used as a methodology, and learning often happens through experience. Contextual application of knowledge is seen as essential. In order to exchange information and knowledge, to collaborate with other businessmen or to simply get a job, trust is fundamental and constantly negotiated. Personal relationships and trust become particularly important in an uncertain market situation, as ways to face risk. Trust is acquired slowly and accorded contextually, through face-to-face interaction and cultivated relationships, but also through positive recommendations or simply a feeling of sympathy. Knowledge, apprenticeship, trust and risk are key themes of the thesis. The blurred borders between the distinct individual personalities of my informants and their collective identities and commonalities are also discussed. The personality of an entrepreneur is seen as ideally complex, in which many (possibly contradictory) characteristics can be expected to be present, but also ideally balanced, each manifesting itself in specific situations. The ethnography also explores the fragility of the entrepreneur, in apparent contradiction to their strong and charismatic personalities. It is seen to be despite and because of their positions of power that they also feel vulnerable: their discourse is imbued with their fears for their businesses in a difficult period of economic crisis. Finally, through a ubiquitous desire to control markets and the future, we also encounter forms of corruption; corruption that is often condemned verbally but nevertheless is present in the business world and amplified by public and media discourses. The mechanisms by which work that is put out to tender is subject to possible manipulation are examined, and the ideas of the entrepreneurs about these practices are described—again demonstrating how thoughts and practices are often self-contradictory in their contextual relevance and application.

Ndoro, Tinashe T. R. "The personality of an entrepreneur : a psychobiography of Steve Jobs." Thesis, Rhodes University, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10962/d1013215.

Abstract:
From Integrative Summary: There has been a growing interest in successful entrepreneurs. Research on entrepreneurship has focused on the identification of personality variables that would assist in the prediction of entrepreneurial success. The present study moves away from attempting to predict entrepreneurial success and instead focuses on exploring and describing the personality of a successful entrepreneur. A psychobiographical case study was adopted by the researcher to explore and describe the extent to which Steve Jobs demonstrated the entrepreneurial characteristics identified by Rauch and Frese (2007). A personality trait approach to entrepreneurship was adopted in the study. The study also attempted to explore the socio-cultural and economic context within which Jobs practised his entrepreneurial activities. Jobs was a successful entrepreneur who co-founded Apple and founded NeXT and Pixar, which were all companies that transformed various technological industries. His entrepreneurial orientation allowed him to produce innovative products that transformed society in various sectors which included personal computing, mobile phones, music, retail stores and films (Isaacson, 2011). A qualitative approach was adopted in the study. The data collection and analysis was guided by the three linked sub-processes proposed by Miles and Huberman (2002) which involved data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings of this study showed that Jobs demonstrated, at varying levels, all the entrepreneurial characteristics identified by Rauch and Frese (2007) which included a need of achievement, risk-taking, innovativeness, autonomy, locus of control and self-efficacy. The researcher however noted that the desire for autonomy, risk-taking, innovativeness and self-efficacy were the most dominant characteristics driving his entrepreneurial orientation. The research thesis adopted the structure of a teaching case which can be used to explore and discuss the personality trait perspective to entrepreneurship in a classroom setting. The findings of the study can be recognised as positively contributing to the growing field of psychobiographical research on exceptional individuals, including entrepreneurs. The study can be considered as a foundation for future studies which will add to the body of knowledge relating to entrepreneurship and personality.

Abstract:
Theory suggests that the source of an organization’s culture is the founder, yet few empirical studies exist on the relationship between the entrepreneur’s personality and the organizational culture. However, the constructs of personality dimensions and organisational culture have been well developed and researched. For years, entrepreneurship research has explored the implications of the entrepreneur’s personality, with the majority of the work focused on the individual’s likelihood of becoming an entrepreneur. This study examines the relationship of the entrepreneurs personality to organizational culture. Four of the Big Five Factor personality attributes, namely, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, and Openness to Experience and Agreeableness, provide the measures of the entrepreneur’s personality. The competing values model measured the Hierarchical, Market, Adhocracy and Clan organizational cultures. As hypothesised the individual constructs that were found to have strong significant relationships between the personality dimensions and organisational cultures were Conscientiousness and Hierarchical culture; Openness to Experience and Adhocracy culture; and Agreeableness and Clan culture. Extraversion and Market culture were found to have a negative relationship. Influence as a moderator was found to be insignificant. Copyright

Abstract:
Abstract Researchers have found that the Big Five personality trait of conscientiousness correlated consistently with high performance across industries. However, previous research was limited to self-reported data collected based on the opinions of the participants and did not include the subtraits of conscientiousness (achievement and dependability). Previous studies also did not provide data specific to entrepreneurs operating as small business owners and did not compare them to their peers. Thus, the purpose of this quantitative, correlational study was to explore whether or not there was a relationship between the personality traits of achievement and dependability and the income of U.S. entrepreneurs who operate as small business owners. Maslow's hierarchy of needs was the theoretical framework for the study due to the correlation between the trait variables of the study and the basic needs of individuals outlined in the theory. Although the relationship between personality and the income of small business owners was not significant, small businesses have had an impact around the world and researchers have found that entrepreneurs can positively or negatively affect the employment rate. For this reason, my study supports the recommendation of other studies to continue research so that organization psychologists and individuals in the helping professions can gain a deeper understanding of how the relationship of personality motivation affects entrepreneurial success, in terms of income as a performance measure, by modeling small businesses.

Abstract:
Emotional intelligence has its origins on a set of qualities that help an individual to better understand processes, actions and information, allowing him to positively contribute to the social interactions and influencing his behaviour within their environment. Entrepreneurship is seen as a major source of employment and wealth creation and can also be seen as a set of dimensions, behaviours and characteristics that make up a dynamic process known as entrepreneurship. This research proposes to understand how the entrepreneurial potential might be affected by emotional intelligence through the perspective of the theory of planned behaviour, i.e. how motivation and ability leads to better performance. The present research therefore analyses how emotional intelligence can influence an individual's entrepreneurial orientation and their entrepreneurial attitudes. Then it sets out to understand how these attitudes towards entrepreneurship can, in turn, lead to entrepreneurial intent and nascent entrepreneurship, i.e. activities and steps being taken by individuals towards new venture creation. A questionnaire was designed with the purpose of gathering data on the relation between emotional intelligence and entrepreneurship, highlighting how the aspects of emotional intelligence tend to influence the motivations, behaviours and, in turn, performance. Our research concluded that emotional intelligence positively effects entrepreneurial orientation and the attitudes towards entrepreneurship, which in turn positively affect entrepreneurial intent and leads to nascent entrepreneurship. The results also show that the existence of an entrepreneurial role model within the friends of the respondents strengthens the relationships that emotional intelligence and entrepreneurial orientation have with attitudes towards entrepreneurship.

Abstract:
Survey research plays a significant role in the way psychologists investigate key relationships which impact human behaviours—and which inform us about undercurrents of a population. Samples are generally taken with the primary function of being able to make inferences which can be generalised to the target population—however, historically the field has consistently relied on small and niche datasets which are not truly representative of the general population. As a consequence, there is an abundance of published research which lacks ecological validity. The alternative approach is to collect larger amounts of data—this approach is extremely costly and in most instances impractical for the researcher. I have termed this conundrum, the cost-insight trade-off, which has traditionally exasperated psychologists. To address this dilemma, I conducted three studies using two alternative methods. Study 1 investigated the relationship between social status and international friendships at a micro and macro level. The building social status hypothesis states that higher social status individuals would reach out more to people and have more international friendships than their poorer counterparts. In contrast, the restrictive social status hypothesis states the higher social status individuals would be reclusive and have fewer international friendships than their poorer counterparts. Findings at both the micro (N = 857; U.S. participants) and macro levels (approximately 50 billion friendships across 187 countries) were in alignment with the restrictive social status hypothesis. Investigating this relationship at this large a scope would not have been possible without utilising Facebook Data—furthermore, for most research projects collecting data at this scale is both too costly and impractical. Study 2 aims to address the limitation of study 1. In this light, a new alternative method, the Survey Forecasting Method, is introduced and used to demonstrate creative capability of combining the latest technology, machine learning techniques and big data (i.e. Twitter). The findings were proof positive that a data collection of only 1,000 participants (at minimum) can be transformed into the power of having a dataset of several hundred thousand participants. In other words, the findings suggest that it is possible to efficiently and effectively forecast scores for potentially millions of people, without them having to complete a single survey. This is a significant step towards developing an alternative survey method; however, the method has only been applied to the Big Five & NEO-IPIP personality traits. Study 3 provides further evidence for the Survey Forecasting Method as a viable alternative to traditional sampling methods. The study examined the relationship between entrepreneurs’ self-efficacy, fear of failure, and well-being at two levels: (a) self-report and forecasted individual level, and (b) forecasted state level (across all 50 U.S. states). Findings show there are differences between each level which provides insights into effects and potential mechanisms which would not potentially be found using traditional “silo’d” methods. The primary aim of this thesis is to provide a viable alternative method to conducting survey research—which allows the researcher to gain deeper insights into the population at less cost and time. Furthermore, this alternative method addresses poor data representativeness. Limitations are addressed and future directions to improve its capability and robustness as a viable survey research methodology are provided.

The variability of business environment has made the speed and execution force of decision-making more important than ever. Both entrepreneurs and top managers must be responsible for the success or failure of policy decisions in enterprise management. The leadership and management style of a leader influences business performance, and also dominates the highest strategic decision-making and the allocation of organizational resources. Different leadership and management styles lead to different performance results. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the differences in leadership traits and thoughts of decision-making between entrepreneurs and top managers. Leadership traits are viewed as a kind of behavioral traits while personal traits tend to be used to explain the causes of personal behaviors. A good manager is not necessarily only characterized by masculine traits. The background, years of service, educational background, and age of managers tend to influence their leadership and attitudes of strategy selection. Among all the factors, the locus of control, gender role of management traits, and leadership traits of entrepreneurs and senior managers, as well as the differences in their choices of entering the strategic internal and external environments, are the factors to be investigated in this study. This study selected three entrepreneurs in different industries 、two top mangers in foreign companies and one state-owned enterprise as the subjects, and conducted case study. “Entrepreneurs and top managers” was chosen as an independent variable, while the “personality trait of locus of control,” “leadership traits,” “factors influencing entering strategic internal and external environment” were chosen as dependent variables to investigate how the differences of personality traits between entrepreneurs and top managers influence their strategy selection. The conclusions are as follows: 1.Both entrepreneurs and top managers share the traits of “personality trait of locus of control” and “the gender role of gender-based management.” However, the top managers in the state-owned enterprise tend to possess the trait of “personality trait of locus of control” and “the gender role of masculine management.” 2.Transformational leadership is viewed as a kind of behavioral trait. The “openness,” “extraversion,” and “agreeableness” of the Big Five Personality traits are important properties of transformational leadership. Therefore, it could be predicted that an individual of transformational leadership is an individual with low “neuroticism.” These four kinds of personality traits correspond to the hypothesis of traits of transformational leadership of entrepreneurs and senior managers. 3.A successful leader not only had experiences, but also patience, skills, toughness, and unique power of judgment. Entrepreneurs and senior managers no loner only put emphasis on the advantages of internal environment of an organization and they would also grasp opportunities of external environment, change strategies at the right time, and place strategic resources at the best position at the critical moment to establish the competitive advantages of enterprises.

Purposes of Research The research, which is conducted based on the conservation of resource theory, aims at having a deeper understanding of the factors for micro entrepreneurs’ job burnout. The five purposes of the research are as follows. 1. To find out the differences of micro entrepreneurs’ job burnout when the different background of population is variable. 2. To find out the differences of micro entrepreneurs’ job burnout under different level of job stress or different amount of entrepreneurial resources. 3. To find out the relevance between job burnout and entrepreneurial resources, job stress, personality hardiness, and social support. 4. To understand the predictability for micro entrepreneurs’ job burnout based on the entrepreneurial resources, job stress, personality hardiness, and social support they have. 5. To find out whether personality hardiness or social support would moderate micro entrepreneurs’ job stress or job burnout. Research Method The research adopts purposive sampling. There were 305 research participants; most of them are micro entrepreneurs who had attended the entrepreneur guidance program held by the Chinese Management Association. Research tools used in this research include questionnaire for profile, job stress inventory, entrepreneurial resources inventory, personality hardiness inventory, social support inventory, and job burnout inventory. Based on the purposes of research, hypothesis testing has been conducted by applying analysis of variance, Pearson Product Moment Correlation, and hierarchical regression analysis. Research Results 1. The level of job burnout is lower when the micro entrepreneur is elder, married, or has more years of work experience before starting the business. 2. Entrepreneurial resources don’t moderate job stress or job burnout. However, entrepreneurs with more entrepreneurial resources have lower level of job burnout compared with those who have less entrepreneurial resources. Micro entrepreneurs with less job stress also have lower level of job burnout. 3. With more entrepreneurial resources, less job stress, higher personality hardiness, and more social support, micro entrepreneurs’ level of job burnout would be lower. 4. Personality hardiness (mainly the sense of involvement and challenge) and social support (mainly tangible support) can effectively ease job burnout. Also, personal responsibility lowers job burnout, too. Job stress (mainly role stress), on the other hand, significantly increases job burnout. The significance of entrepreneurial resources has been ruled out because of the sense of involvement part of personality hardiness. 5. Personality hardiness and the sense of involvement and challenge included can effectively moderate the correlation between job stress and job burnout. 6. Social support and the emotional support, tangible support, and informational support included cannot effectively moderate the correlation between job stress and job burnout. Conclusion There are three suggestions for the practice based on the research results. 1. To gain more work experience, to strengthen organizational capital, and take the initiative to seek for family and friends’ tangible support in order to have more external resources. 2. To strengthen self-perception ability in order to understand one’s limitation of role load and to make order for the needs based on their importance in order to solve problems effectively; e.g. to look for support or collect data to ease role stress. 3. To learn to find the sense of significance and the worthiness to learn and grow even in stress situation in order to think positively when dealing with stress. Limitation of the research and suggestions for future related research are also included.

The mentality of 〝 Better be the head of a dog than the tail of a lion 〞leads the Chinese to venture and become the founder of a business‧ A phenomenon commonly present in Taiwan and in America is the higher growth in quantity of female entrepreneurs than male entrepreneurs and the fastly growing speed of the female to start their businesses‧ In view of this burgeoning trend, this research attempts to explore two topics : one is the characteristics of entrepreneurs(which include personal background, personality , the motivation of venture , entrepreneurial behaviors , the difficulties encountered when entrepreneurs start their businesses and the unique nature of their enterprises ); the other is whether gender has influence on shaping the characteristics of entrepreneurs‧ Through the analysis of datas , the main conclusions we get are: 1)〝a persistant wish to learn and enrich oneself 〞 and〝a wish to confront challenges and build one own enterprise〞 are the main motivations which drive the entrepreneurs to start businesses‧2)〝strenthening the knowledge and skills of business management 〞 is the main expression of entrepreneurial behaviors‧3)〝the difficulties of raising capital and opening up a market〞 are the main challenges confronted by entrepreneurs‧4)As a whole, there is evident difference between male and female entrepreneurs on A/B types; as for other items(such as venture motivation ,the tendency to take risk in adventures, the achievement motivation ,focus of externals / internals , entrepreneurial behavior and the difficulties which may be encountered by enterpreneurs),there is no evident difference‧

Small and micro enterprises, the main foundation for Taiwan's economic development, have been affected by the global financial crises and economic storm in recent years. Along with an unstable international environment, slow economic growth, rising raw material costs; external business shifts, changing population structure, imminent industrial transformation, the micro-enterprises are facing unprecedented challenges. Therefore, the government has provided a series of subsidiary arrangements, including the Mini Phoenix Entrepreneur Loan, the focus of this study. This study explores whether personality traits and entrepreneurial motivations have an impact on entrepreneurial performance. Questionnaires were distributed to qualified micro-phoenix entrepreneurs in five districts (north, central, southern, eastern, and outlying islands) and interviews were conducted. Out of 2,500 questionnaires distributed, 341 responded, with a 13.6% response rate. Correlation, regression, and cluster analyses were adopted to verify research hypotheses. The empirical results show that the personality traits of micro-Phoenix entrepreneurs are related to entrepreneurial motivation; personality traits have influence on performance; entrepreneurial motivation also has a partial impact on entrepreneurial performance. This study is intended to increase the understanding of Phoenix lenders, clarify the factors affecting Phoenix loan entrepreneurs, and then contribute to the operation and development of micro-enterprises. It is recommended that future researchers can expand the investigation scope, incorporate other variables, and detect possible interactions to grasp a more comprehensive picture of the characteristics of Phoenix micro-entrepreneurs.

Since everything is connected in the modern society, doing business is not an independent thing. One has to deal with lots of people. When entrepreneurs are considering who are better to be their partners, they normally will take their major profession or other aspects into account, and neglect the truly important factor to make a good partnership. In fact, the natural needs in the personal development of an individual partner are far more important than everything else. And these needs come from people’s personalities, and hide inside the motivations of personality. This research report identifies the general personality types which are observed from all human beings, the key personality traits that all entrepreneurs share in common, and all the cultural dimensions which affect people’s behaviors differently. By going through massive amount of literature review, combining personality types and cultural environment together, the differences of entrepreneur’s personality in the US, Spain, and Taiwan are revealed that the entrepreneurs in the US, Spain, and Taiwan generally show red color personality, green and red color personality, and yellow and red color personality respectively.

Abstract:
Throughout the world, entrepreneurship is viewed as a solution for struggling economies and a major engine of economic growth. As a result, the field of entrepreneurship research has captured the interest of scholars, educators and policy makers. A substantial amount of empirical studies over the last two decades has examined the role of personality in determining entrepreneurial outcomes. Concurrently, organisational legitimacy is perceived as a necessary organisational attribute for the survival and growth of new ventures. Strategic legitimacy of nascent organisations is important in explaining organizational emergence. The current study seeks to determine if there is a relationship between an entrepreneur’s personality and the strategic legitimisation activities they employ in creating a new venture. A multiple regression model tested four factors of entrepreneurs’ personality as antecedents of strategic legitimisation activities among entrepreneurs in South Africa. The empirical findings suggest that positive extraversion traits are strong predictors of entrepreneurial activities to gain strategic legitimacy for new ventures. More interestingly, negative agreeableness traits were found to be strong antecedents of strategic legitimisation activities. Such a conclusion is important in that it provides new grounds of theoretical nature to better understand the personorganisation interplay. Copyright
