A new metric — QoL (Quality of Learning) is recommended for e-learning systems to evaluate the learning process. This paper proposes an Adaptive & Personalized e-Learning System (APeLS) that provides dynamic learning content and an adaptive learning process for learners to enhance the quality of learning. According to feedback from the learner, the proposed APeLS is capable of self-adjusting and se

Students may build their prior knowledge through the pre-class instructional videos, and then conduct peer-to-peer and peer-to-teacher discussion in in-class activities. However, they could fail to complete the learning task assigned by teacher without appropriate guidance in pre-class phrase. This may easily decrease students’ participation in the class. Therefore, to address this issue, this study develops a personalization mechanism guidance s

This is due to the fact that game-based learning provides many benefits. For example, game-based learning contains various game elements (i.e., story, music, hints and help documents), which promote students’ learning motivation. However, previous research also indicated that game-based learning may cause some problems, such as the increase of learners’ cognitive overload. Nevertheless, not all of learners can overcome these problems because learners h

In the era of big data, the massive data availability has created a tough world to navigate for users, who are often overwhelmed by alternatives of products, services, music, movies. Big data is also the fuel of machine learning applications and powerful tools like recommender systems that help users choose among the myriad of alternatives. Regrettably, this big data often contains sensitive information (e.g., socio-demographic attributes, social relations, browsing history, patterns of visited location or played music) that reflects their personal behavior. Abstract:
This case study explored the ways that aspects of a high school blended learning program (pseudonym: BL High) encourage or discourage personalization. For K-12 learners a major concern exists in the increasingly rigid dominion of the programmatic over the personal, which leaves many students disengaged and disconnected. Having expanded the ways in which students can interact with curriculum and teachers, 21st-century technology introduces new conditions that may, or may not, encourage personalization instead of standardized, efficiency-based policies and practices. In response to digital tech
