Abstract At the discourse level, personal pronouns have been acknowledged as one of the most important features used to express writer visibility – involvement of the author in the text. Studies have shown that writer visibility depends on discourse type, cultural conventions, writer’s L1, etc. (Petch-Tyson 1998; Ädel 2001; Rodríguez, Vázquez and Guzmán 2011; Zolotova 2014). This paper investigates the discourse function of personal pronouns in argumentative writing in the Croatian language, a Slavic pro-drop language. Abstract:
There is an integral system of personal pronouns in the Tangut language. It is already known that there are pairs of general and honorific pronouns in the first- and second-person singular. Besides narrating the meaning of the honorifics in detail, it is pointed out in the present paper that a parallel distinction exists in the first-person plural as well, and if more than two pronouns of the same person appear successively in one phrase, only the preceding one may be expressed by an honorific form. There is no honorific form for the pronoun of the second-person plural.

In many languages, both reflexive and personal pronouns within locative prepositional phrases (LPPs) can be co-construed with a local subject, making LPPs an ideal testing ground for non-syntactic factors influencing pronoun use. Focusing on Chinese, we experimentally tested the extent to which acceptability of reflexives ziji and ta-ziji and personal pronoun ta depends on event type (motion/perception) and relation type (contact/non-contact). This study aimed to examine the gender-neutral tendency of personal pronouns used in Korean EFL and British-American ESL textbooks. The research especially focused on nominative pronouns (he, she, they, and he or she) to explore personal pronouns used in gender-neutral situations. The data were analyzed using Antconc, a corpus analysis program. The study found that all four textbooks did not deviate significantly from prescriptive grammar of personal pronouns and the pronoun “he” was still used a lot in gender-neutral sentences. This article examines the role of pronouns in the English language from multiple perspectives, including historical development, grammatical structure, sociolinguistic variation, and contemporary issues of inclusivity. It highlights how pronouns serve as vital tools for referring to people, objects, and concepts, enabling speakers and writers to maintain clarity, cohesion, and efficiency in communication. By analyzing personal, reflexive, demonstrative, interrogative, and relative pronouns, the discussion illuminates the ways in which these forms convey subtle distinctions of person, number, a

However, less is known about how prominence information is used during the process of resolution, particularly in the light of two- stage processing models which assume that reference will normally be to the most accessible candidate.
