This chapter re-examines ideas of authorship in the Malay cinema through a case study of one of its most prestigious filmmakers, Hussain Haniff. It considers the formation of Hussain’s reputation by reviewing the changing critical attitudes to his work and discusses his films as instances of personal and political expression, but also as contributions to a popular entertainment industry. Hussain offered timely explorations of tradition, modernity and gender, and used the period’s generic conventions and stars to shape his unique visions. By positioning Hussain within the broader world of film entertainment, this chapter contributes to a more historically grounded perspective on the role played by film directors during the golden age of Malay cinema.

Historical and social conditions, including institutionalized racism, produce stressors for Black males and propel negative public attitudes. The responses of healthcare professionals and school personnel to the mental health needs of Black adolescent males are generalized with limited focus on this specific population and effective interventions. The authors identify and describe predominant mental health conditions in Black male adolescents and describe the current landscape of emotional health impacting this population. They identify determinant factors that lead to poor mental health. Activating a social-constructivist approach, the authors recommend culturally responsive approaches to address the problem and improve outcomes, along with future directions.

The introduction of digital technologies and accompanying arbitrated attitudes in formal educational contexts have for a long time been expected to trigger radical transformation in schools. Yet, these still have to materialize. The subsequent engagement of the first generation of maturing digital natives as school-leaders is in itself not a guarantee that the associated and much-anticipated change will take place. In the interim, the situation is weighed against a theoretical backdrop that merges transformational leadership qualities, work experience and embraced interpretational traits, a designated group of Maltese school-leaders manifest with respect to technology inclusion in their school. Subsequently disclosed experiences and insights were used to synthesize forward directions that current school-leaders and future educational leadership personnel may choose to adopt for the initiation and setting of today's 21st century school leaders in the anticipation of tomorrow's schools.

Cyberloafing is employees’ intentional use of Internet technology during work hours for personal purposes. This can include surfing non-work related Internet sites, sending personal emails, online gaming, or social networking. Given the prevalence of cyberloafing and its negative consequences (e.g., reduced productivity, network clogging, security breaches), organizations have responded by implementing Internet use policies, filtering or monitoring Internet activity, and disciplining policy violators. Recently, attention has shifted away from identifying methods to limit cyberloafing to pinpointing the causes of cyberloafing. This emerging research suggests that employees are more likely to cyberloaf when they are treated unfairly, have certain characteristics like external locus of control or higher work status, have positive attitudes toward cyberloafing, or there are norms supporting it. The authors offer directions for future research that include exploring the possibility that cyberloafing can lead to positive outcomes like increased job performance, reduced stress, and work-life balance.

To help you consider this we have tried to include contributions from people who have a range of backgrounds and perspectives, who all contribute to mental health services, including a student about to qualify, a modern matron, a clinical manager, a director of nursing, a professor, and service users. To set the scene, our first personal contribution is from Julie Cresswell, a third year student nurse at the Birmingham City University and the Royal College of Nursing’s Student Nurse of the Year 2007. We asked Julie a series of questions that we hoped would help you in preparing to become a qualified nurse; these are her answers and thoughts about the future of mental health nursing and her career. In preparation for qualifying, I am now reflecting upon the experience, knowledge base, and skills that I have developed during my training, along with the transferable skills that I already had before I embarked upon this career. As mental health nursing students, we will all have followed a similar academic course equipping us with a certain level of theory and practical skills. However, what makes us individual is how we intend to use what we have learned throughout our lives and the philosophy that underpins our work. I began this course with the belief that psychiatric nursing was grounded in science. I now feel that while science can hypothesize about the causes of mental illness, understanding and accepting a client’s life experience is central to supporting them in times of mental distress. As I progress through my career, my approach may develop or change direction but for the moment, I feel that it will be vital to be able to communicate my own perspective to future employers. Developing your own approach to mental health nursing, along with an audit of what you can offer an employer in terms of practical skills, knowledge, and experience, establishes your own ‘unique selling point’ in a competitive jobs market.

Abstract:
The article clarifies the peculiarities of the organization of educational and scientific research activity of higher education institution students, which is an important way to improve the quality of training and forming of specialists with an academic degree, able to creatively apply the latest achievements of scientific and technological progress, and opens opportunities for effective acquisition and use of knowledge; implements an individualized approach to learning; develops the ability to independently conduct research and summarize the investigation results; dominant tasks are characterized; the directions (educational research, scientific research and scientific organizational) and types of educational research activity of students (abstract, scientific reviews and articles, course and diploma papers) are analysed; the theoretical bases of stylistics and the concept of “style” are investigated; the substyles of the scientific style are analysed (proper scientific (academic, purely scientific); scientific and technical (production and technical); scientific humanitarian; scientific informative (scientific summarizing); scientific reference (reference-encyclopaedic). It is proved that the main purpose of scientific language is to create and produce the scientific text, by which we mean the highest communicative unit within scientific discourse, a holistic communicative block having a clear, logical structure and internally complete parts, saturated with relevant terminology, a set of constant text categories and a means of presenting scientific information, the results of scientific research. The levels of organization of the scientific text (linguistic-structural (operating with linguistic models); linguistic-cognitive (verbalized concepts in the text); communicative-rhetorical (means of persuasion in the scientific text); communicative-pragmatic (personal attitude of the one who produces a scientific text to the message) are investigated; the features of primary (monograph, dissertation, bachelor and master theses) and secondary (scientific article, abstracts, summaries, annotations, reviews, reports) scientific texts are characterized. The paper reveals the principles of compiling scientific texts: content saturation – innovativeness of the presented information, its cognitive value; professional core – the need for analysed information for a particular sphere; scientific informativeness – the author’s concept of the represented research; novelty of the scientific text – new observations and knowledge discoveries that can be implemented in practice; content completeness – the integrity of the presented statements; problematicity – coding of problematic issues; comprehensibility to a specialist in a particular field – apprehensibility of information and providing necessary conditions to understanding it; intertextuality – connection of the scientific text with other types of texts; text declarativeness – a clear comparative analysis of a particular process or phenomenon. The stages of work on the scientific text (organizational, research, generalization of research results) are studied. Requirements for the creation of scientific texts are defined: clear structure (division into chapters, sections, units, paragraphs and sentences that are closely related to each other), avoiding of repetitions (in particular, in conclusions to chapters and in final conclusions); deliberate use of graphic material; systemacity in the process of writing the text; avoidance of concepts that cannot be unambiguously interpreted; justified use of figures and facts; text coherence. The requirements to the structure of the scientific text (introduction, research part, conclusions) are covered.

In order to describe that phenomenon and find out the factors which affected and caused students’ different attitudes toward academic research, the researchers investigated Wenzhou-Kean University (WKU) students’ attitudes towards the support from the university, research training environment, and their future academic career directions. This descriptive-quantitative study also considered students’ attitudes as a variable to measure respondents’ understanding and knowledge of academic research, and personal experiences.

Abstract During 1999, the Hampton/NASA Steam Plant achieved a distinguishing safety milestone by completing the year without a single OSHA recordable accident. At the end of the year, the plant had also worked 422 consecutive days without a lost time accident. The Steam Plant Manager, John Austin, called this significant milestone the “Ace Safety Year”. Over the decade Worker’s Compensation and medical expenditures decreased form $153,000 to just $234 by 1995. The savings in insurances premiums is now equal to the amounts spent annually on all safety equipment, employee physicals and uniforms.
