Abstract:
These days, seamless moving about a city is a determinant of the city’s competitiveness, and is decisive for the life quality in the city. Hence, taking care of appropriate traffic organisation is one of the major tasks of the city authorities. Development of optimal production and spatial interrelations, considering their costs, efficiency and scope of services rendered to individual entities, enables economic and ecological development of the region. Therefore, the issue of major importance for a city is implementing a transport policy that makes it possible to choose a specified method of d

Terrestrial laser scanning systems are characterized by a sampling pattern which varies in point density across the hemisphere. Additionally, close objects are over-sampled relative to objects that are farther away. These two effects compound to potentially bias the three-dimensional statistics of measured scenes. Previous methods of sampling have resulted in a loss of structural coherence. In this article, a method of sampling is proposed to optimally sample points while preserving the structure of a scene. Points are sampled along a spherical coordinate system, with probabilities modulated b

The article deals with the measurement of deformations of structural elements of technical systems. The analysis of damages and deformations arising in the elements of aircraft structures during operation is carried out. The conducted researches of the fiber-optical sensor (VOD) based on the Fabry-Perot interferometer confirmed its accuracy and reliability of operation, since the interferometer base is significantly less than the length of the fastening element. The influence of the change in ambient temperature on the change in the base is negligible. Thus, the application of the method of fi

A simple, small, and low-resolution confocal Fabry–Perot interferometer (CFP) has been developed to improve the signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) in forward degenerate four-wave mixing (F-D4WM) detection, coupled to high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Its appropriateness is based on the difference in coherence between the F-D4WM signal and the background stray light. A detailed description of the specially designed CFP and its performance is presented. The improvement in S/N was calculated from the chromatographic peaks recorded after an HPLC separation of 1- and 2-aminoanthraquinone. The

We derive and apply a transfer matrix method (M-matrix) coupling liquid surface waves and flexural-gravity waves in buoyant thin elastic plates. We analyze the scattering matrix (S-matrix) formalism for such waves propagating within a Fabry-Perot like system, which are solutions of a sixth order partial differential equation (PDE) supplied with adequate boundary conditions. We develop a parity-time (PT)-symmetry theory and its applications to thin elastic floating plates. The sixth order PDE governing the propagation of these waves leads to six by six M and S matrices, and results in specific

Wetlands, including peatlands, supply crucial ecosystem services such as water purification, carbon sequestration and regulation of hydrological and biogeochemical cycles. Peatlands are especially important as carbon sinks and stores because of the incomplete decomposition of vegetation within the peat. Good knowledge of individual wetlands exists locally, but information on how different wetland systems interact with their surroundings is lacking. In this study, the ability to use a depression-based digital elevation model (DEM) method to inventory wetlands in northern landscapes and assess t

Evaluation of the retinal nerve fibre layer (RNFL) is key to diagnosing and monitoring changes in glaucoma. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive, objective, quantitative method that provides realtimein vivoimages of the retina. The new spectral-domain OCTs have increased resolution and acquisition speed compared with earlier time-domain OCTs, enabling the generation of highly detailed 3D images. Axial resolution has also been improved from 10 to 3–5μm. Thus, spectral-domain OCT is a promising new clinical tool for evaluating the RNFL in glaucoma and other retinal diseases. Rece

The lean combustion process is one of the most promising methods for reducing NOx emissions of jet engines. Since the risk of flash back is major for premixed concepts a diffusion flame concept is applied. In order to realize the lean condition in this concept the percentage of air flowing through the injection system and combustor dome has to be drastically increased. This leads to nozzles with a high effective area and to high volume flux in the primary zone of the combustor chamber. Such an injection system demands a particular focus towards flame stability at low load. Hence, it is essenti
