The world sugar price is constantly changing in response to supply and demand and is currently very low as compared to the prices it is sold at domestically in South Africa. The drop in the worldwide price of sugar is due to its oversupply as yields of sugar production have increased in recent years and subsidies and protection measures in other producing countries. The low prices also mean imports are cheaper than local sugar. This pushes down the average sugar price and leads to a low profit margin. Abstract:
All projects, regardless of complexity, are usually bounded by a predefined start and end date within which project objectives must be met. On the other hand, some projects may end up being abandoned if the predetermined construction performance parameters cannot be met within the specified timeframe. These project failures can impact both the animate and inanimate elements environments. It is therefore pertinent to explore the societal impacts of construction project failures. Hence, this study examines the effects of project failure on the internal and external project environment. In conduc

The Selection of Materials is a field containing a group of criteria necessary to choose materials applied to the Design project. Several criteria were associated with this selection process, and just some of them were considered for the study (such as aesthetic properties related to colour and texture; intangible requirements like emotions, perceptions, and stimulus; and some specific biological properties connected to biomaterials in the textile context). The study aims to understand the visual colour stimulus of biomaterials from the perspective of the Synaesthetic Design phenomenon. The de

Conducting knowledge capture and embedding it into a products’ through lifecycle remains a key issue in engineering industries; particularly with regard to rationale associated knowledge emanating during formal design reviews. Manual, and often interruptive, methods with associated costly overheads, exacerbate the already time consuming process. As well as these disadvantages, manual methods can potentially capture the wrong data due to human error or not fully-capturing all the pertinent information and associated relationships. Consequently, industries are seeking automated engineering knowl

Abstract:
This study focuses on how Latin America¿s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can participate in global markets in a way that provides for sustainable growth. In addition, it study analyzes the impact of collective efficiency on clusters upgrading and undertakes an investigation of the impact of different patterns of governance within the chain on the possible forms of upgrading. Concerning the methodology, this three-dimensional analysis is based on the collection of original data from twelve new clusters in Latin America and on an extensive literature review of cluster studies. Abstract:
Many public programs and operations by multilateral organisations include technical assistance to the direct beneficiaries of the program in addition to pure financing. However, there is no substantial body of studies that calculates the additional impact; in the sense of exclusively attributable to, of technical assistance on the outcome of interest of the program. In this working paper, the authors propose the use of multi-treatment impact evaluation method -propensity score combined with exact matching for dosage and double difference- for estimating technical assistance's impact. In the current context, e-commerce has improved significantly as consumers have increased online shopping in different sectors of the economy. Therefore, the term “e-commerce” is becoming increasingly well-known and relevant for conducting business transactions. In addition, the current context of the COVID-19 pandemic has contributed to the extreme growth of e-commerce, and in the long term it will be a vital part of companies to achieve a greater competitive advantage as it offers benefits to the end consumer. However, it is important to note that there will be technological and non-technolo

Abstract:
The goal of this working paper is to identify the core challenges that have contributed to the poor performance of Ethiopia’s rice sector, and highlight approaches to successfully promote the commercialisation of the rice value chain. The authors achieve this by emphasising the underlying political economy dynamics of the rice value chain in Ethiopia, and how these can offer a better understanding of the drivers and constraints of agricultural commercialisation in the country. The paper also discusses the performance of, and challenges faced by, actors involved in the rice value chain. In addi

Abstract:
The Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Act (AFMA) was passed and implemented a quarter of a century ago. AFMA comprised a suite of policy, institutional, and investment measures that envisaged the transformation of the agriculture and fisheries sectors, from a resource-based to a technology-based industry. One aspect of the modernization process that the AFMA is aiming at and which is the focus of this study is the development of agro-based value chains that move up the value-added ladder ascendancy. This is done by examining AFMA and the agri-food value chain development and ascendancy i

Abstract:
This paper summarizes research designed to characterize the current state of pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries with respect to the adoption of Quality Risk Management as per ICH Q9. The research supports the hypotheses that the full value of QRM with respect to product quality and patient safety has not yet been realized. In addition, industry appears to be lagging behind regulatory expectations with respect to QRM maturity, indicating that current approaches to QRM require significant improvement.
