This paper proposes a modified perturb and observe algorithm approach to increase the output power of an independent photovoltaic system. Today, photovoltaic application as renewable energy power plant has been prevalent. This popularity is because photovoltaic power plants are easy to apply on-grid and off-grid schemes. In standalone power generation applications, the increased photovoltaic output power is of great help to users as it contributes to increasing overall system efficiency. Photovoltaic power plants have non-linear voltage-current characteristic, with specific maximum power point, which depends on operating conditions, viz. irradiation and temperature. In targeting the maximum power, it is by far known that the photovoltaic arrays have to operate at the maximum power point despite unpredicted weather changes. For this reason the controllers of all photovoltaic power electronic converters employ some method for maximum power point tracking. Abstract:
The dividing wall column (DWC) has significant energy saving potential compared to conventional column sequences. However, to reach these savings in practice, it is essential that the control structures can track the optimal operation point despite inevitable changes in feed properties, performance characteristics and other uncertainties. Otherwise, the energy consumption may rise significantly or, more commonly, the DWC becomes unable to produce pure products even at its maximum reboiler duty. Extremum seeking control (ESC) is a model-free optimisation technique that may mitigate off-optimal

Abstract:
This paper presents an experimental methodology to test and validate two Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) strategies on variable speed wind turbines. The first technique of this study is an Extremum Seeking (ES) control strategy which does not require any wind turbine model or wind speed measurements. The analysis shows that its convergence can be quite slow in some cases. For this reason, we improve the ES control with a specific inner-loop that speeds up the convergence of the strategy. Additionally a conventional Perturb and Observe (P&O) algorithm is also implemented for comparison

Abstract:
This paper proposes a method that combines the Adaptive Perturb and Observe (Adaptive P&O) and Simulated Annealing (SA) optimization approaches to identify the global maximum power point in photovoltaic (PV) modules. This identiffication is critical to enable that such modules can deliver their maximum power to the utility network, considering different shading conditions. The Adaptive P&O method combines fast convergence and low steady-state oscillations, but it tends to return local rather than global maximum power values. Thus, it does not ensure the total efficiency of the modules.

Abstract:
As countries across the globe pursue economic development, the improvement of individual and societal well-being has increasingly become an overarching goal. In the global South, in particular, high levels of poverty, inequality and deteriorating social fabrics remain significant challenges. Programmes and projects for addressing these challenges have had some, but limited, impact. This occasional paper analyses well-being in Gauteng province from a capability perspective, using a standard ‘capability approach’ consistent with Amartya Sen’s first conceptualisation, which was then operationalis

Abstract:
Soil shear strength affects many military activities and is affected significantly by plant roots. Unfortunately, root contribution to soil shear strength is difficult to measure and predict. In the boreal forest ecosystem, soil and hydrologic dynamics make soil shear strength less predictable, while the need for prediction grows due to the rapid changes occurring in this environment. Our current study objectives are to (1) observe possible aboveground vegetation indicators of soil shear strength variation across soils and other environmental heterogeneity, (2) observe possible image-based ind

This paper examines how the act of giving advice to others can serve as a tool for self-persuasion in high-stakes decisions. We tested this hypothesis in Perus nationwide teacher selection process, involving over 74,000 candidates. By prompting teachers to advise peers on selecting schools for maximum educational impact, we observe a significant shift in their own choices: an increased probability of choosing and being assigned to hard-to-staff schools, institutions serving disadvantaged areas that are typically understaffed. In line with recent literature on behavioral sciences, our findings

This study analyzes the role of religion in Orthodox countries, where religion plays an important role when it comes to national identity, focusing on Serbia and Montenegro. Apart from analyzing this specific connection, the paper addresses the politicization of religion by both the state and religious institutions during the turbulent events in Montenegro between 2019 and 2020. Critical discourse analysis and the Discourse-Historical Approach is used to analyze the potential but significant shift in the ethnoreligious and nationalist discourse of Serbian Orthodox Church officials. While laboratory-scale studies of single-phase flow have resulted in good correlations for the design of large-diameter pipeline systems, similar approaches for two-phase flow have not been as useful. Although theoretical modeling and simulation of single-phase turbulent flow has not yet been accomplished, empirical observation of many small-scale examples has lead to effective correlations through dimensional analysis. These correlations for a single-phase often do scale-up adequately for design of pipelines. However, when an additional phase is present, this approach has not worked well. It

The repercussions of COVID-19 resulted in global disruptions to supply and demand as well as shocks to the global production networks. This paper employs a trade analysis approach to assess the impacts of coronavirus on Cambodia’s export performance. Utilising Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) index, changes were analysed using data pre-and post-pandemic to explore the Kingdom’s competitiveness and dynamic export position during this time. We found evidence that COVID-19 has caused a 6 percent decline in Cambodia’s trade in 2020 and a further 7 percent decline in 2021. However, the effect v

This paper examines the issue of management of climate finance in the Global South. It acknowledges the efforts made by the various stakeholders so far but seeks to advance a clarion call for a more inclusive and targeted approach in dealing with climate change. The authors highlight the limited role played by least developed countries and small island developing states in contributing to the conversation on climate change. The authors emphasize the need for enhancing the role of the most vulnerable countries, marginalized groups, and indigenous peoples in the management of climate change. Thi

Although different schools create different approaches to stylistics, each stylistic approach will include in its paradigm some basic factors, such as the reader and the author.
