Abstract:
The Author’s purpose is to show the American community—and specifically the legal community—how and why Hockett’s proposal is not an ethically correct or appropriate solution for the underwater mortgage crisis. To achieve this end, the Author will give a detailed explanation of Professor Hockett’s proposal in Part II. Next, the Author will set forth Hockett’s explanation of what caused the underwater mortgage crisis in Part III. In Part IV the Author will provide his own belief on what the cause of the underwater mortgage crisis is. Then, after showing how Hockett does not assess the cause of the underwater mortgage crisis correctly, the Author will then show the reader how Hockett’s solution is not ethically appropriate in Part V. This Comment will evaluate the ethical resolve of Hockett’s solution using the legal philosophy of St. Thomas Aquinas. However, the Author is confident that if the reader is willing to inspect Hockett’s solution against the facts of what created the underwater mortgage crisis, the reader will then develop an intuitive sense for why Hockett’s solution is neither ethically correct nor appropriate.

Full text
Abstract:
In a 1951 experiment, the two basins of acidic, dark water Peter-Paul Lake, Michigan, U.S.A., were separated by an earthen dam. Peter Lake was limed and Paul Lake was not. Since approximately 1920, reconstructed fossil diatom communities of the two basins were similar immediately before 1951 and different after 1951. Communities of both basins were altered in 1951, indicating concurrent nonliming factors were active. Since 1951 the Peter Lake diatom community has gone through a series of species successions apparently influenced by liming. Most recently, the Peter Lake community had nearly the same community structure as just prior to the manipulation, whereas the Paul Lake community stabilized soon after 1951 and retained its altered structure. The two communities were different before the 1951 experiment, and the use of Paul Lake as a reference was questioned. Postmanipulation diatom inferred pH was significantly higher in Peter Lake only when compared to premanipulation values in the same basin.

Hodgson, James R., Carol J. Hodgson, and Scott M. Brooks. "Trophic Interaction and Competition Between Largemouth Bass (Micropterus salmoides) and Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) in a Manipulated Lake." Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences 48, no. 9 (September 1, 1991): 1704–12. http://dx.doi.org/10.1139/f91-202.

Full text
Abstract:
We examined the impact of competition between largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) and rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) on diet and condition factor of the two species. Data were collected from Paul Lake (a control lake containing only bass) and Peter Lake (an experimental lake to which trout were introduced) (Michigan, USA). We compared diets of 1988 bass and trout in Peter Lake, 1987 and 1988 bass in both Peter and Paul lakes, and 1988 trout and 1987 bass in Peter Lake. Patterns in diet overlap demonstrated with pooled sample methodology could not always be matched with a random individual pairing technique. With the pooled methodologies, we demonstrated a diet composition shift with significant changes in diet diversity and evenness in the Peter Lake bass after the introduction of trout: such bass ate fewer zooplankton (Daphnia spp.) and more odonate naiads than before trout introduction, and their condition factor was reduced. Seasonal divergence in diets between bass and trout was observed. Growth rates of Paul Lake bass did not differ significantly between years, and relative to the experimental lake there were fewer statistically significant dietary differences.

Abstract:
Michael Sims’ book called The Story of Charlotte’s Web makes no mention of Opal Whiteley or her famous diary, published in 1920. Instead, Sims turns to the well-recognized connection between E.B. White's Charlotte's Web (1952) and his essay, "Death of a Pig," written some four years earlier. In the essay, White describes the loss of a pig whose life he had tried to save, and his description of the autobiographical origins of Charlotte's Web strongly suggests that his earlier experience with a pig who had died of natural causes is what convinced him that he “needed a way to save a pig’s life.” This essay argues, nevertheless, for another intertext for Charlotte’s Web, namely the diary of Opal Whiteley (1920), a seven-year-old girl who loved and lost a pig called Peter Paul Rubens.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract The author suggests an attribution for two largely unknown Baroque sculptures inside the Church of St. Peter and Paul at Potsdam. The crucifixus, which has so far not been attributed to an artist, is shown to exhibit parallels to a 1716 work by Paul Egell. It remains unclear, however, whether the Potsdam crucifixus was also created by Egell himself or by Johann Peter Benckert, who congenially completed it in 1763 with a statue of the kneeling Maria Magdalena. The appealing depiction of the saint as an elegant sinner and penitent offers believers various possibilities for identification.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract A Syriac fragment erroneously ascribed to Epiphanius of Salamis allegedly preserves the names of the wives of Peter and Paul and draws our attention to patristic debates over the marital status of the apostles. In these contexts scriptural interpretation and ascetic ideals interacted, producing varied conclusions about the apostolic teaching and examples. Some patristic authors accepted the married apostles as a matter of fact, while others saw such suggestions as offensive and dangerous. This essay examines the exegetical approaches to key New Testament passages and explores how this fragment fits within the history of interpretation and biographical reception of Peter and Paul.

The article, which is contained with two parts, treats of the eldest iconography of St. Peter in relation to papal primacy. The author of this article reliances on this iconography and proves that this primacy concerned not only St. Peter but also St. Paul because both of them were founders of Roman Church.
