Abstract:
The Church Growth movement, originating with Donald McGavran in 1955 and popularised principally by C Peter Wagner since 1971, has influenced evangelical mission internationally. Though originating in the context of cross-cultural `missionary' work, it is perhaps now identified as a typically American approach, apparently relying on method and technique to accomplish its objective, which as the name implies, is the growth of the church, both locally and world-wide, since this is understood as the requirement of the `Great Commission' (Matthew 28: 18-20). The Salvation Army (founded 1865) has been in decline in Britain certainly since the Second World War, and probably since the 1930s. In 1986 the Army formally Espoused the Church Growth approach to mission. There has been little published research into the effectiveness of Church Growth methods, especially in the UK, despite voluminous outpourings of inspirational and motivational literature. Virtually the only test of the principles (Turning the Tide) was produced in 1981 by Paul Beasley-Murray and Alan Wilkinson, investigating the reliability of Wagner's` Vital Signs' in larger Baptist churches in England. This thesis follows Beasley-Murray and Wilkinson by testing the principles in the specific context of The Salvation Army in the UK. The approach adopted, a questionnaire survey with reference to statistical trends, follows the pragmatism of Church Growth itself, asking whether the approach works, rather than whether it is theologically sound, though such issues are considered where relevant. The opportunity has also been taken to consider specific Salvation Anny issues (uniform, music etc. ) and their effect on growth and decline. The work falls into four sections: - The Salvation Army; - The Church Growth Movement; - The Questionnaire Survey; - Conclusions and Recommendations.

Denna uppsats söker upplevelsen av påtvingad behandling. Den är gjord på ett behandlingshem i Mellansverige som bedriver behandling efter § 12 LVU med särskilda befogenheter i vård av unga. Behandlingshemmet lyder under SIS (Statens institutionsstyrelse). Underlaget består av fem intervjuer med elever som blir behandlade för narkotika- och alkoholmissbruk samt lättare eller grövre kriminalitet. Metoden som använts för att analysera intervjuerna är fenomenologiskt inspirerad som innebär att man söker efter essensen i upplevda erfarenheter.

Resultatet visar på sex viktiga teman. Dessa är: Allas problem (ett ”vi” på institutionen), frihetslängtan, passivitet/uppgivenhet, vad eleverna ser som behandling, personalkontakt, aktivitetsbrist. Uppsatsen argumenterar för hur dessa teman utgör individens upplevelse av en behandling på en låsbar institution. Resultatet pekar mot att det idag behöver ses över hur väl denna behandlingsform fungerar utifrån de intagnas perspektiv.

Abstract:
This thesis explores the notion of ‘experimental voice’ in avant-garde performance, in the way it transgresses conventional forms of vocal expression as a means of both extending and enhancing the expressive capabilities of the voice, and reframing the social and political contexts in which these voices are heard. I examine these avant-garde voices in relation to three different liminal contexts in which the voice plays a central role: in ritual vocal expressions, such as Greek lament and Māori karanga, where the voice forms a bridge between the living and the dead; in electroacoustic music and film, where the voice is dissociated from its source body and can be heard to resound somewhere between human and machine; and from a psychoanalytic perspective, where the voice may bring to consciousness the repressed fears and desires of the unconscious. The liminal phase of ritual performance is a time of inherent possibility, where the usual social structures are inverted or subverted, but the liminal is ultimately temporary and conservative. Victor Turner suggests the concept of the ‘liminoid’ as a more transgressive alternative to the liminal, allowing for permanent and lasting social change. It may be in the liminoid realm of avant-garde performance that voices can be reimagined inside the frame of performance, as a means of exploring new forms of expression in life. This thesis comes out of my own experience as a performer and is informed both by theoretical discourse and practical experimentation in the theatre. Exploring the voice as a liminal, transgressive force requires analysis from an experiential perspective.

ZusammenfassungKapitel 2 behandelt die wissenssoziologische Organisationsforschung als den theoretischen Bezugsrahmen der umgesetzten empirischen Untersuchung. Jeweils in mehreren Etappen wird Wissen zum einen in der Wissenssoziologie betrachtet, zum anderen in der Organisationsforschung beleuchtet. So entsteht zunächst ein Überblick über die wissenssoziologische Entwicklung von deren Anfängen bis in die Gegenwart, im Hinblick auf die Fragestellung dieser Studie und daher auch nicht durchgehend chronologisch. Zu Beginn geht es um Wissen, das auf Ideologien beruht oder durch diese erzeugt wird. Wesentliches in diesem Kontext zu behandelndes Gedankengut entstammt der Arbeit von Karl Mannheim. Es folgt ein Sprung in die entgegengesetzte Art der Wissenserzeugung, nämlich diejenige durch Wissenschaft. Zum einen wird auf die Ideologiekritik, die die Aufklärung hervorgebracht hat, eingegangen; zum anderen werden positivistische Konzeptionen, wie sie Auguste Comte begründet hat, in den Fokus der Betrachtung gerückt. Daraufhin richtet sich der Blick auf die klassische Wissenssoziologie der Moderne, welche anhand der Theorie von Max Weber vorgestellt wird. In der wissenssoziologischen Entwicklung folgt dann bereits die Gegenwart, die hier in ihrer sozialkonstruktivistischen Perspektive thematisiert wird: Überlegungen von Alfred Schütz, das Werk von Peter L. Berger und Thomas Luckmann und auch die derzeitige Wissenssoziologie anhand eines Aufsatzes von Oliver Dimbath und Reiner Keller. Ein Exkurs über Wissenskulturen schließt dabei einen ersten Block und leitet zugleich über in den zweiten. Dieser betrachtet Wissen aus dem Blickwinkel der Organisationsforschung. Anfangs steht die theoretische Perspektive auf Organisationen als Gegenstand der Soziologie, um daraufhin in theoretischer Hinsicht Wissen sowohl innerhalb von Organisationen zu bestimmen als auch die organisationale Wissensgenese im Vorfeld deren empirischer Untersuchung zu thematisieren. Sodann nimmt die Studie Bezug zu ihrem Fallbeispiel, indem sie zum einen das Kundenwissen als eine für die deutsche Automobilindustrie relevante Wissensart darlegt und zum anderen auf die Marktforschung als deren üblichen Weg der Wissensgenese eingeht. Ein Exkurs zu Wissensmanagement rundet das Kapitel ab.

ZusammenfassungUm 1960 konstatierte die Literaturkritik eine „Krise des Erzählens“. Viele Autoren reagierten darauf mit modernistischen Erzählweisen, bei denen der traditionell zuverlässige Erzähler verabschiedet wird. Besonders weit ging Peter Weiss (1916–1982), dessen erzählerische Experimente ihm den Ruf einbrachten, „ein“ oder „der Meister der deutschen Prosa“ zu sein. Das Konzept des „unzuverlässigen Erzählers“ wird in dem Aufsatz zunächst am Beispiel der Romane „Der Schatten des Körpers des Kutschers“ (1960) und „Fluchtpunkt“ (1962) überprüft. Am Beispiel des „Gesprächs der drei Gehenden“ (1963), über dessen in permanenter Wandlung befindliche fiktive Welt keine verlässlichen Aussagen verfügbar sind, wird gezeigt, dass in einem bestimmten Spektrum der modernistischen Erzählkunst die Frage nach der Zuverlässigkeit oder Unzuverlässigkeit des Erzählers nicht mehr sinnvoll zu stellen ist.

Anderson spends a sabbatical year at the University of Cambridge. He informs graduate student Brian Josephson about spontaneous symmetry breaking in superconductors and Josephson discovers the effects that bear his name and won him a share of a Nobel Prize. Anderson works in this area and pursues analogies to superfluid helium four. He uses an analogy to his work on superconductivity to suggest a mechanism for mass generation for elementary particles. Peter Higgs generalizes Anderson’s idea and later wins a Nobel Prize for doing so. Anderson spends eight years as a half-time professor at the University of Cambridge. Abstract:
Open University Malaysia (OUM) is an open and distance learning institution which has been in operation for about two decades. OUM traditionally offers its programs in blended mode which puts emphasis on self-managed learning, face-to-face, and online learning. OUM had already begun to offer some of its programmes fully online. However, the emergence of Covid-19 Pandemic pushed OUM to make the move to offer all of its programmes fully online. The movement control order in March of 2020 came when OUM was well into the January semester and approaching the end of the semester. Face-to-face classes scheduled at all OUM’s thirty-five learning centres around the country came to a halt. All higher education institutions were ordered to shut down. Quick actions had to be taken to minimise the disruption in teaching and learning. OUM had only one choice, to continue with classes online and have the final exams online. It has been two years since, and OUM has moved forward with the transition to fully online and continues to offer all its programmes fully online. OUM continues to strive to provide quality education and positive online learning experiences to the learners. This called for several initiatives and enhancements in e-learning which include the use of e-lessons, online interactive activities, online tutorials, online grade book, online group discussions, online exams, along with an enhanced question bank, online grading system and proctoring system. This paper focuses on the implementation, challenges and use of one of the initiatives: the introduction and use of online class participation (OCP) via group discussions, with the intent to increase student engagement with their peers. Improving and increasing learner engagement in all three areas as proposed by the Community of Inquiry Model (Garrison, Anderson & Archer (2000)) may contribute towards providing learners with a rewarding learning experience and may help student retention. Currently at OUM, although there are efforts in place to allow for learner engagement with the content and tutors, there is a lack of peer interaction taking place online in OUM’s learning management system, myInspire. The initial observations and results of a learner survey on OCP show positive response overall to OCP.

The Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center (PEER) is a multi-institutional research and education center with headquarters at the University of California, Berkeley. PEER’s mission is to (1) develop, validate, and disseminate performance-based engineering (PBE) technologies for buildings and infrastructure networks subjected to earthquakes and other natural hazards, with the goal of achieving community resilience; and (2) equip the earthquake engineering and other extreme-event communities with new tools. This report presents the activities of the Center over the period of July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2020. PEER staff, in particular Grace Kang, Erika Donald, Claire Johnson, Christina Bodnar-Anderson, Arpit Nema and Zulema Lara, helped in preparation of this report.

Zweifelsohne wirken sich neue Technologien auf die Alltagsmobilität einschließlich der Wahl verfügbarer Verkehrsmitteln aus und implizieren damit verkehrs- umwelt- und raumbezogene Folgen. Der massenhafte Anstieg der individuellen Pkw-Nutzung der zurückliegenden Jahrzehnte wird weitestgehend auf strukturelle Veränderungen zurückgeführt, die sich aus dem Zusammenwirken von technologischer Möglichkeit (hier: der Option „Pkw“) und allgemeinen ökonomischen und sozialen Entwicklungstrends in modernen Industriegesellschaften ergeben (vgl. exemplarisch Kutter 2001; Kutter/Stein 1998). Insbesondere bezogen auf die soziale Akzeptanz von technischen Neuerungen – ökonomisch gesprochen: die Substitutionsbereitschaft zwischen bestehenden und neuen Technologien – muss jedoch die Perspektive des Akteurs und sein individuelles Entscheidungsverhalten stärker in den Blick genommen werden, um die für Verkehr, Umwelt und Raum sich ergebenden Folgen besser abschätzen zu können. Entsprechende Studien, die das individuelle Entscheidungsverhalten im Umgang mit technologischen Neuerungen ins Zentrum der Untersuchung stellen, sind jedoch nach wie vor nur in geringer Zahl vorhanden. So steht beispielsweise außer Frage, dass Neuerungen im Bereich von IuK-Technologien die physische Mobilität nachhaltig beeinträchtigen werden. Gleichwohl sind die vorhandenen theoretischen wie empirischen Befunde der Mobilitätsforschung, wie die Entwicklung von IuK-Technologien die individuelle Mobilitätsnachfrage verändern wird, jedoch unklar oder widersprüchlich. Entsprechend stellt etwa Bamberg (2010) fest: „Die Dynamik dieser Entwicklung ist z.Z. kaum prognostizierbar“. Vor diesem Hintergrund hat unter anderen das Institut für Mobilitätsforschung (ifmo) in Kooperation mit dem Imperial College London jüngst eine Grundlagenstudie gestartet, um den Stand des Wissens zum Einfluss von IuK-Technologien auf das Mobilitätsverhalten aufzuarbeiten. Ein ähnlicher Erkenntnisstand lässt sich für andere verkehrs- und mobilitätsrelevante Technologiebereiche diagnostizieren. Eine der wenigen Ausnahmen hiervon bilden Analysen des Nutzerverhaltens bezogen auf die Akzeptanz neuer Antriebstechnologien im Bereich des motorisierten Individualverkehrs und hier speziell mit Blick auf die Nutzung elektrisch betriebener Fahrzeuge (vgl. stellvertretend Bongard 2014; Fazel 2014; Peters et al. 2013; Haugrund 2013; Pieper et al. 2013; Paternoga et al. 2013; Dudenhöffer et al. 2012; Döring/Aigner 2012; Döring 2012; Ahrend et al. 2011; Peters/Hoffmann 2011; Döring/Aigner 2011). Zu den Elektrofahrzeugen zählen dabeiterminologisch nicht alllein reine batterieelektrisch betriebene Fahrzeuge (BEV), sondern auch solche Elektrofahrzeuge, die entweder über einen Verbrennungsmotor zur Reichweitenverlängerung verfügen (REEV) oder bei denen sowohl ein E-Motor als auch ein Verbrennungsmotor für den Antrieb sorgt, wie dies bei den am Stromnetz aufladbaren Plugin-Hybridfahrzeugen (PHEV) der Fall ist. Schließlich werden zudem Brennstoffzellenfahrzeuge (FCEV), welche die benötigte Energie direkt an Bord des Fahrzeugs erzeugen (z.B. in Form von Wasserstoffbrennstoffzellen), zu den Elektrofahrzeugen gezählt. In Anbetracht dessen sollen nachfolgend exemplarisch die vorhandenen Einsichten zum Nutzerverhalten im Umgang mit der Elektromobilität zusammenfassend dargestellt sowie – wenngleich nur ansatzweise und damit in lediglich rudimentärer Form – einige sich daraus ergebende verkehrs-, umwelt- und raumbezogene Implikationen aufgezeigt werden.
