Abstract:
In this article, I analyze the potential positive impact of aerial perspectives on children’s understanding of their place in the world, with Le Petit Prince envisioning a borderless world of ecological and social unity. The novellas of the pilot and author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry encourage their projected viewers to see the interconnectedness of all life, including the life of the planet itself. Most notably, Le Petit Prince raises environmental responsibility in discussing the prince’s planet and undermines ideas of national difference as the prince views the earth from space. Visual adaptations of Le Petit Prince by Stanley Donen and Will Vinton pick up on Saint-Exupéry’s phenomenology of perception and translate them through visual techniques into politicized aerial perspectives. Looking at Le Petit Prince and its film adaptations, this article argues that aerial perspectives work to transform children’s perceptions and break down bordered mappings of the world.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The present study reports results from a series of computer experiments seeking to combine word-based Largest Chunk (LCh) segmentation and Agreement Groups (AG) sequence processing. The AG model is based on groups of similar utterances that enable combinatorial mapping of novel utterances. LCh segmentation is concerned with cognitive text segmentation, i.e. with detecting word boundaries in a sequence of linguistic symbols. Our observations are based on the text of Le petit prince (The little prince) by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry in three languages: French, English, and Hungarian. The data suggest that word-based LCh segmentation is not very efficient with respect to utterance boundaries, however, it can provide useful word combinations for AG processing. Typological differences between the languages are also reflected in the results.

It will be argued that fictional spaces are able to afford experiences of intimacy and security, in literature as well as in video games. The game will be compared on this point with the children’s book Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, and similarities in spatial make-up will be shown. In the end, it will be stated that although the spatial structure is similar to the book, and innovative with regard to the history of spatial representations in video games, the emotional content of the book is substantially deeper than that of the video game.

Abstract:
This paper presents the intricate issues and strategies related to the translation of children's books, and it particularly focuses on the comparative analysis of "The Tale of Peter Rabbit" by Beatrix Potter and "Le Petit Prince" (The Little Prince) by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The study finds that the typical problems in translation are, idiomatic expressions, cultural reference, and the voice preservation, along side-sheet-specific challenges which each of the text faces. The translator of Potter's work should have skills of transposing all culturally oriented peculiarities of the UK land to the international audience to keep it accessible. On the contrary, "Le Petit Prince" translation will be the process of capturing the abstract philosophical themes in the simple yet profound language. It is also stressed that the role of the translation as a cultural mediator similarly requires the use of innovative techniques adapted to indigenous culture. Among the next steps for research is the extension of comparative studies to the text of diverse cultures and an inclusion of interdisciplinary approaches, incorporation of technological support and finally an empirically study of the impact of texts. This study is also the fuel for the development of the understanding of translating children's literature and to make these stories more accessible and educational throughout the whole world.

Abstract:
The article deals with translator’s dilemmas in the context of picturebooks on the example of the new translations of the French classic “Le Petit Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Given the intermedia character or illustrated books for children, their translation is a very demanding task. It requires ‘visual literacy’, the ability of ‘reading’ and understanding pictures. The way, in which the translators cope with the interplay between the verbal and the visual, so essential for picturebooks, allows to discern their translation strategies. The examined examples point out the discrepancies between domesticating translation and the original illustrations and also the impact of new illustration on the target text. The example of Hans Magnus Enzensberger shows to what extent the original illustrations can be a disruptive factor in adapting translation, so that the only solution is to ignore the intermedia character of the source text. Such manipulation results in the empoverishment of the text. In the case of Peter Sloterdijk his demand for new illustrations can be considered as a consequence of the re-contextualization, that can be observed in his translation.

Antoine de Saint-Exupery is a nobleman, military aviator, the French author and illustrator of the novella The Little Prince (French Title: Le Petit Prince). Reynal & Hitchcock released it in both English and French for the first time in the United States in April 1943. After France was freed, it was published posthumously there. The narrative structure of the novella centres on a Little Prince who travels to several planets, including Earth, and tackles issues of grief, loneliness, friendship, and love. The Little Prince observes things about adulthood, human nature, and life. This work becomes Saint-Exupery’s most successful work, selling an estimated of 140 million copies around the world which makes it one of the best-selling in history. This book has been translated into 505 different languages and being the second most translated work in the world. We describe an ongoing project, in which an informally organised international consortium is using the open source LARA platform to create multimodal annotated editions of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s Le petit prince in multiple languages, so far French, English, Italian, Icelandic, Irish, Japanese, Polish, Farsi and Mandarin. LARA versions of the book include integrated audio and translations and an automatically generated lemma-based concordance, and are freely available online. We describe the methods used to construct the various versions. In some cases, work for a given language was simply divided by type, typically with one person adding translations and another recording audio. In other languages, we experimented with crowdsourcing methods, splitting the text into chapter-sized units and using the LARA platform to distribute these to multiple annotators, then combining the results at the end. Finally, we report an initial classroom study, where the French version was used by intermediate-level Australian students of French.

Abstract:
In this paper I describe the semantics, pragmatics and the discourse functions of three Lithuanian agent-defocusing constructions, featuring the non-referential use of second person singular/third person verbal forms and the non-agreeing participial forms in ma/ta. These three constructions can all be defined as impersonal, in the broader sense of the word, as the agent (or the main participant, whatever its semantic role may be) is constructed as non-referential: I label them 2sg-imp, 3-imp and ma/ta-imp. My corpus consists of original Lithuanian texts (a short story and entries on an Internet forum) and of the Lithuanian translations of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s novella Le Petit Prince and J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. My analysis shows that 2sg-imp are preferably used to express generic agents (anyone) and 3-imp are preferably used to express referential indefinite agents (someone). while ma/ta-imp are referentially flexible. 2sg-imp are pragmatically marked in that they are used to express empathy between the speaker and the pool of potential referents; they are mostly used in specific discourse types, such as opinion statements and life drama situations. 3-imp are preferred in situations where the indefiniteness of the agent is relevant to the development of the narrative; ma/ta-imp are instead preferred when the agent is irrelevant, and the focus is on the event itself. The behavior of Lithuanian 2sg-imp, 3-imp and ma/ta-imp is consistent with the one already described for similar constructions in other European languages.

This essay briefly looks at how Antoine de Saint-Exupéry in his novella The Little Prince champions a transformation of the world through “establishing ties”. Here, the fox’s discourse on “taming” has been discussed to explore Exupéry intentions. In this paper, we draw from Bakhtin’s concept of heteroglossia, which encapsulates the representation of multiple, distinct voices within a single text. The discussion reveals that throughout the story Exupéry has attempted to expose the futility of the abstract accumulation of wealth and power and has offered in its stead a celebration of childlike wonder and a plea for a unified world founded upon the principles of loving solidarity.

Abstract:

O Grande livro Pop-up.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Not very long ago, the world had a different shape. The cities were shaped differently too. Anglophone geographies brought into life theories about what all this meant. Global Urban Studies was a little prince world. A world in which each prince, each scholar, created their own theory. Theories were plentiful. In Le Petit Prince the Geographer is ‘…too important to go wandering about. He never leaves his Study.’ 1 He believes that geography books are ‘…the finest books of all. They never go out of fashion.’ The geographical scholar (who Antione de Saint-Exupéry had brought to life) distained the ephemeral, that ‘which is threatened by imminent disappearance.’ That particular little prince world is no more. The 1990s theories turned out to be ephemeral. Geoffrey DeVerteuil's essay breathes a little life back into some of them, arguing for not forgetting – not becoming too distracted by the new, especially not by the more obviously ephemeral ideas that often dominate today.

Abstract:
The illustrations in the book or the cover in the book have the intention to explain the contents of the book. Popular fantasy novels like The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, have illustrations from book covers to book contents. The novel 'Alpheratz Chronicle: Guide to an Uprising' is one of the novels inspired by popular fantasy novels. But 'Alpheratz Chronicle: Guide to an Uprising' does not yet have a visual for the book to be marketable. Therefore, in order for the original novel 'Alpheratz Chronicle: Guide to an Uprising' to be more acceptable and attractive in the eyes of readers, a visualization design for the cover and contents of the novel 'Alpheratz Chronicle: Guide to an Uprising' was made using art style that determined by research over the topic. This study uses questionnaires and interviews with expert users who are proficient in this field and extreme users who frequently consume the product. The results of the questionnaires and interviews will determine what artstyle makes the original fantasy novel more interesting and whether the resulting prototype from the design meets the criteria to be a marketable book or not. Therefore, it is hoped that the results of the visualization design of the original novel 'Alpheratz Chronicle: Guide to an Uprising' are expected.
