Abstract:
AbstractThe first part of this paper deals with how Sándor Petőfi (aka Alexander Petrovits) was elevated to the status of Hungarian national poet from an ethnically non-Magyar and otherwise controversial background (a dubious birthplace and mother tongue, a mysterious death). In a dynamic of longing and belonging, Petőfi himself was keen to shape and reshape the various layers of his ethno-cultural, regional and political identities, drawing on mythical and modern elements in equal measure, and, through his inclination for role playing, sometimes even ironizing the gestures of identity fashioning. The second part surveys the political appropriations and both material and symbolic rituals of cult formation regarding his life and works. In conclusion, I analyze the rhetorical rite of admitting an ‘alien’ into the national community that was performed in Petőfi’s critical afterlife, with a brief excursion into the similar or counter-gestures it provoked in Slovak nationalism.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract Only six years subsequent to Petőfi’s disappearance, i.e. his death, in 1855 the Petőfireception took on in Serbian literature, when Jovan Jovanović Zmaj translated the poem A csárda romjai (Razorena čarda [The Ruins of the Inn]). From that point on, Petőfibecame part of Serbian literature as well: famous and popular, to such an extent that there was hardly a Serbian poet who would not engage in translating at least one of Petőfi’s poems. Sava Babić, who made an account of the Petőfitranslations published between 1855 and 1980, listed as many as 658 entries in his bibliography. Translating Petőfi’s poems, according to literary historians, “proved an outstanding bridge between the lives of the two neighbouring nations” (Nagy 1994).1 These poems substituted for what Serbian literature lacked-the Serbian folk epic poem. Towards the end of the 19th century, the reception of Petőfi’s poetry in Serbian literature virtually bloomed into a cult, namely because his poems of patriotic and social themes as well as his revolutionary poetry quite complied and were even consonant with the increasingly aggressive patriotism of the so-called New Serbian Youth (Nova omladina). In the second half of the 20th century, the receptive attitude towards his poetry waned significantly. The study looks into the characteristics and effects of the translations of Petőfi’s poetry from its ‘literary transfer,’ its receptive situation, up to the intensification of its popularity and folklorization. In fact, it analyzes the literary/cultural transfer which fulfilled certain needs and conjunctures, but which was surprisingly integrated into the Serbian literary tradition of the late 19th and early 20th century.

Abstract:

Full text
Abstract:
What is the relation between Petőfi and Martí, two poets of the 19th century, and the apocalypse ? Sándor Petőfi (1823-1849), hungarian poet, writer and speech-maker, was the spearhead of the hungarian revolution of March 1848, against the Habsbourg’s regime. José Martí (1853-1895), cuban poet, writer and politician, was the creator of the Revolutionary Cuban Party, in 1892, in exile, from New York, where he organized the armed struggle against the spanish troops which occupied Cuba, at that time. Theirs writings, strongly committed in the sense of a fight to free their people oppressed by a tyrannical force, - the Habsbourg, in Hungary, the colonial Spain, in Cuba -, and for the creation of a « perfectly egalitarian republic », according to the designs of Petőfi, and a « right republic », according to those of Martí, contain an important number of apocalyptical words, expressions, symbols and allusions, of which majority belong exclusively to the text of the Book of Revelation but also to others books of the Bible. How did Petőfi and Martí use this « reservoir » of specific words and symbols, which forms a lexicon of the end of the times ? The two poets present themselves as visionaries and speak as prophets. For his time, Petőfi foreshowed the disastrous end of the hungarian independance war in 1849, but also indicated a final point of the history, when will occur the big fight between the good and the bad, after a « sea of blood », with the final victory of the good, which will allow the advent of the ideal society. According to him, the revival can not be realized without bloodshed : the French Revolution was the first step of the march of humanity to its adult age ; others revolutions will follow, more bloody – it is possible to think about the Bolshevik revolution of 1917 -, till the final revolution. Martí foreshowed the birth of « the Great Babylon » of the Book of Revelation 17, 5, the modern society of consumption where everything go quickly and where the love is deconsecrated, where the life has got no sense and where the idea of God is vague, all those early warning signs of the end, which he had called the « dismemberment of the human spirit » and the « decentralization of the intelligence », namely the emergent society at the end of the XIXth century, with the begining of its current excesses : the economic monopolies and the first hellkites of the globalization. Martí criticizes even the neo-liberalism, declaring that the men, like in the past when they were the slaves of the tyrants, are now the liberty’s slaves. Thus, Petőfi and Martí built a true eschatology, with three important times : the crisis, the judgement and, at the end, the justification

Abstract:
This study analyses the stages of the presence of the Hungarian literature in France in the 19th century. At the beginning of the 19th century, the Hungarian scholars stated that Hungary was "Terra incognita". Following the 1848 events, the situation changed. Hungary has a greater attraction for French people. Peto͏̈fi played a major role in this new situation. This translations, travel accounts, memoirs, relations between French and Hungarian men. Abstract:
Different types of regulated grammars have been introduced in order to supplement shortcomings of context-free grammars in applications preserving their elegant mathematical properties. However, the rapid developments in present day industry, biology, and other areas challenge to deal with various tasks which need suitable tools for their modelling and investigation. We propose Petri net controlled grammars as models for representing and analyzing of metabolic pathways in living cells where Petri nets are responsible for the structure and communication of the pathways, and grammars represent biochemical processes. On the other hand, the control by Petri nets has also theoretical interest: it extends possibilities to introduce and investigate concurrent control mechanisms in formal language theory. The thesis introduces various variants of Petri net controlled grammars using different types of Petri nets and investigates their mathematical properties such as computational power and closure properties.

Bibliography: leaves 177-191. This thesis uses a new type of extended time Petri net to model and analyse command and control decision processes. A comprehensive review of existing time Petri net structures is given. This concludes with the introduction of time Petri net structure that incorporates the most commonly used time structures. This extended time Petri net structure is then used in the definition of the basic modelling blocks required to model command and control decision processes. This basic modelling block forms the basis of the direct analysis techniques that are introduced in the thesis.

Abstract:
Petri nets are named in honor of Dr. Carl A. Petri for his famous Ph.D dissertation of general net theory in 1962. A substantial amount of work utilizing and modifying the Petri nets has been done since then, and they have turned out to be very useful in the study of asynchronous concurrent systems. The liveness and reachability problems are considered to be some of the major problems in Petri net theory.Since the structure of a Petri net can be regarded as sets of places and transitions form a graphical point of view, this thesis is concerned with utilizing the results of graph theory to investigate the liveness in terms of deadlock problems of a special subclass of Petri nets, free-choice Petri nets. As a subclass of Petri nets, the class of free-choice Petri nets possesse relatively strong analysis properties. This is especially true of complete free-choice Petri nets. We show in particular that any system which can be modeled by a general Petri net can also be modeled by a free-choice Petri net.
Department of Computer Science

Dahlbom, Anders. "Petri nets for situation recognition."

Full text
Abstract:
Situation recognition is a process with the goal of identifying a priori defined situations in a flow of data and information. The purpose is to aid decision makers with focusing on relevant information by filtering out situations of interest. This is an increasingly important and non trivial problem to solve since the amount of information in various decision making situations constantly grow. Situation recognition thus addresses the information gap, i.e. the problem of finding the correct information at the correct time. Interesting situations may also evolve over time and they may consist of multiple participating objects and their actions. This makes the problem even more complex to solve. This thesis explores situation recognition and provides a conceptualization and a definition of the problem, which allow for situations of partial temporal definition to be described. The thesis then focuses on investigating how Petri nets can be used for recognising situations. Existing Petri net based approaches for recognition have some limitations when it comes to fulfilling requirements that can be put on solutions to the situation recognition problem. An extended Petri net based technique that addresses these limitations is therefore introduced. It is shown that this technique can be as efficient as a rule based techniques using the Rete algorithm with extensions for explicitly representing temporal constraints. Such techniques are known to be efficient; hence, the Petri net based technique is efficient too. The thesis also looks at the problem of learning Petri net situation templates using genetic algorithms. Results points towards complex dynamic genome representations as being more suited for learning complex concepts, since these allow for promising solutions to be found more quickly compared with classical bit string based representations. In conclusion, the extended Petri net based technique is argued to offer a viable approach for situation recognition since it: (1) can achieve good recognition performance, (2) is efficient with respect to time, (3) allows for manually constructed situation templates to be improved and (4) can be used with real world data to find real world situations.

Anders Dahlbom is also affiliated to Skövde Artificial Intelligence Lab (SAIL), Information Fusion Research Program, Högskolan i Skövde

Abstract:
AbstractDeveloping algorithms for distributed systems is an error-prone task. Formal models like Petri nets with transits and Petri games can prevent errors when developing such algorithms. Petri nets with transits allow us to follow the data flow between components in a distributed system. They can be model checked against specifications in LTL on both the local data flow and the global behavior. Petri games allow the synthesis of local controllers for distributed systems from safety specifications. Modeling problems in these formalisms requires defining extended Petri nets which can be cumbersome when performed textually. In this paper, we present a web interface (The web interface is deployed at http://adam.informatik.uni-oldenburg.de.) that allows an intuitive, visual definition of Petri nets with transits and Petri games. The corresponding model checking and synthesis problems are solved directly on a server. In the interface, implementations, counterexamples, and all intermediate steps can be analyzed and simulated. Stepwise simulations and interactive state space generation support the user in detecting modeling errors.

In ASME 2013 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2013. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/imece2013-64774.

Full text
Abstract:
A new approach to Vulnerability, Uncertainty and Probability (VUP) quantification procedure using Stochastic Petri Nets within a network of interacting satellites is presented. A Stochastic Petri Net based model is developed to quantify VUP in a network of interacting satellites. Three indicators are proposed to determine the VUP definitions in interacting network of satellites. The proposed VUP quantification scheme addresses a methodology which employs a Stochastic Petri Net for quantitative analysis of the behavior of the network. With the random variables associated with the Petri Net transitions, the dynamic behavior of the cooperating satellites in a SPN model can be mapped onto a time-continuous Markov chain with discrete state space. After generating a Markov Stochastic Petri Net model, the probability of a given condition in the network at a specified time can be computed and quantified as well as the vulnerability and uncertainty of the system using the identified indicators.

Abstract:
Abstract The integrated model of an enterprise can be built by making use of the CIMOSA modeling framework and modeling language. The behaviour analysis of the CIMOSA enterprise model can be made by the sets of procedural rules. In order to make further performance analysis of the CIMOSA enterprise model, this paper presents a systematic approach to transform the CIMOSA enterprise model into a equivalent stochastic Petri net model. The systematic approach is a hybrid Petri nets synthesis technology which integrates the “bottom-up” and “top-down” modeling approaches. The resulting Petri net obtained from this approach preserve the same qualitative properties of its original Petri net.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract A method for robustness optimization of flexible manufacturing systems is presented which undergoes forecasted product plan variations. A configuration of an FMS is modeled by a colored Petri net and the associated transition firing sequence. The robustness optimization of the colored Petri net model is formulated as an multi-objective optimization problem which minimizes production costs under multiple production plans, and reconfiguration cost due to production plan changes. As a first attempt, machines with limited flexibility are considered, and a genetic algorithm, coupled with a simple FIFO dispatching rule, is used to simultaneously find an semi-optimal resource allocation and event-driven schedule of a colored Petri net. The resulting Petri nets are then compared with the Petri nets optimized for a particular production plan in order to address the effectiveness of the robustness optimization for simultaneous production of products with different similarities. The simulation results suggest that the robustness optimization should be considered when the products are moderately different in their manufacturing processes.

Abstract:
Abstract In this paper, FMS scheduling problems are modeled by timed Petri nets. The timed Petri nets can model the important characteristics of FMSs such as routing flexibility, shared resources, precedence relationships among operations, concurrency, synchronization and lot sizes. So the Petri net model of an FMS scheduling problem which reflects the given constraints would limit the search within the feasible schedule space. By making use of a heuristic scheduling algorithm which satisfies the lower bound condition of the algorithm A*, the search space can be further reduced and an optimal path can be found. This new scheduling approach which combines Petri net modeling with heuristic search can effectively handle with the structural complexity and computational complexity of FMS scheduling problems.

Abstract:
Machine Structure configuration approach is used to find the machine configuration required for the machining operations of any given part. This paper presents a Petri-net model for the approach. This model not only simplifies the approach, the Petri-net model of the given part remains simplified even if the number of machining features is high. A case study is taken as an example, the model is applied on it and the results are then compared with the available data. Conclusions are drawn after the application of both the conventional and the Petri-net model on the part. After that the applicability of the Petri-net model of machine structure configuration approach on different part families is discussed. In the end the suggestions for future trend are presented.

Abstract:
Abstract In this paper a generic dynamic model for process planning is presented, based on Petri net technology. The proposed Petri net model 1) represents manufacturing knowledge of the type of precedence relations constraints 2) represents dynamically the process planning procedure itself, and 3) encapsulates all possible process planning solutions (process plans). Furthermore, process planning simulation can be performed directly on the Petri net and reachability analysis of the model gives the complete set of solutions (process plans). Then, optimum solutions can be found by using a method based on heuristics.
