Abstract:
Emerging byte-addressable Non-Volatile Memories (NVMs) enable persistent memory where process state can be recovered after crashes. To enable applications to rely on persistent data, durable data structures with failure-atomic operations have been proposed. However, they lack the ability to allow users to execute a sequence of operations as transactions. Meanwhile, persistent transactional memory (PTM) has been proposed by adding durability to Software Transactional Memory (STM). However, PTM suffers from high performance overheads and low scalability due to false aborts, logging, and ordering constraints on persistence. In this article, we propose PETRA, a new approach for constructing persistent transactional linked data structures. PETRA natively supports transactions, but unlike PTM, relies on the high-level information from the data structure semantics. This gives PETRA unique advantages in the form of high performance and high scalability. Our experimental results using various benchmarks demonstrate the scalability of PETRA in all workloads and transaction sizes. PETRA outperforms the state-of-the-art PTMs by an order of magnitude in transactions of size greater than one, and demonstrates superior performance in transactions of size one.

Abstract:
Petra is one of the ritual dolls used by the Tenggerese people. Petra is generally used in funeral ceremonies as a symbol of ancestral spirits or people who have died, so petra is a doll that is respected by the local community. This study focuses on examining the plant lexicon that composes Petra dolls. This research was conducted to increase the understanding of the local community about the dolls commonly used in rituals as a symbol of the ancestors and to examine the possibility of inter-language contact. This research was conducted in Tengger Village using a qualitative descriptive approach with observation and interview data collection methods. Sources of data were obtained from traditional healers and Pak Sepuh. Data analysis used lexical semantic analysis. The results of this study show the lexicon of the plants that make up the petra doll; the meaning indicated; and petra as a marker of ancestral identity. Petra is made from selected plants that grow in the Tengger region and become a medium for ancestral spirits in funeral ceremonies. Therefore, Petra is a form of respect for the local community towards their ancestors until now. Keywords: Petra Doll, Lexicon, Tengger, Antropolinguistic, Lexicon Semantics

Abstract:
Petra is a mature tourism destination in the south of Jordan with a degree of seasonality over the last 10 years. Despite the recognized importance of Petra for the tourism industry in Jordan, there has been a lack of studies that discuss seasonal demand variations and its impacts on other related industries in the region. Yet, this study aims at analyzing patterns and effects of seasonality of tourism demand in Petra for the period 2006-2017. The required data was obtained from Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (MoTA). Four methods were used to measure tourism seasonality in Petra. These are: Seasonality indicator; Seasonality ratio; Gini coefficient; and Seasonality index. The results of the study showed a modest level of tourism seasonality in the study area. Among methods, Seasonality index appeared to be the appropriate and simple way to calculate seasonality patterns at tourism destinations. The results showed that there are two peaks of seasonality in tourism demand of Petra. The first and the highest one was in April and the second took place in the months of October and November. In addition, seven months represented the low season of tourism demand in Petra. These are December, January and February as well as June, July, August and September. The tourism seasonality in Petra based on that is mainly due to the weather in these months which represent the coldest and warmest months in the year respectively.

Marii, Fatma. "Glass, glass cakes and tesserae from the Petra Church in Petra, Jordan." Thesis, University College London (University of London), 2008. http://discovery.ucl.ac.uk/1444327/.

Full text
Abstract:
This study is concerned with the glass finds excavated from the Petra Church. It focuses on the glass cakes, which were found concentrated in Room IX of the church together with other glass fragments. The aim is to document these cakes and analyse them for their archaeological and technological significance. Petra Church dates from the late 4th to the early 7th centuries AD and revealed a glass collection consisting of transparent fragments, mosaic tesserae and cakes. Heaps of glass fragments were found at the floor of the room adjoining the church. Such collections were recorded also in several other contemporary sites of the Byzantine Levant. This indicates that these rooms were collecting points or storage areas for glass materials to be traded or recycled. Almost eight kilograms of cake fragments were documented. These fragments showed varieties in their colours and textures. Optical microscopy examinations for both cakes and tesserae samples revealed an abundance of bubbles and inclusions. The backscatter electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectrometry examination reveals that the majority of these inclusions are calcium phosphate and manganese oxide, which has not been recorded before in Byzantine glass. A few inclusions that were detected are metallic-based, and are part of the additives used in the glass. The different compositional groups identified reflect different sources used for their production in different periods. The glass cakes are interpreted to be evidence for recycled glass, and possibly experimentation with new raw materials, at a time of increasing natron shortage in the Levant.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper presents numerical simulations of slug flow in multiphase pipeline systems using a novel simulation tool PeTra. The slug tracking scheme in PeTra is described. A major feature in PeTra is a moving grid together with a fully integrated front tracking scheme. The slug tracking model enables tracking of slug fronts with limited numerical diffusion. PeTra has been implemented in C++ using object-oriented methods resulting in a flexible and dynamic code. The numerical simulations are compared with experimental data and field data.

Abstract:
In the article on the material of the Salzburg weekly «New Days» (1945–1947) various spheres of activity of Peter Volyniak are presented. It is noted that this edition was a business card of the publishing house of the same name and had a history of continuation: in Toronto Petro Volyniak restored the publishing house of the same name and continued the publication in the format of the universal monthly «New Days» (1950–1969). The article also presents periodicals («Latest News», «New Days», «Timpani», «Our Way») and literary, artistic and scientific collection «Steering Wheel», which were published in the Salzburg publishing house of Peter Volyniak «New Days». The purpose of the publication is to trace the path of Petro Volyniak from a writer to a literary critic, journalist and publisher. This trend is reproduced in chronological order. Peter Volyniak as a writer is informed in the article «Literary Evening of P. Volyniak» (author – M. Ch-ka). O. Satsyuk’s literary-critical article is devoted to the coverage of ideological and artistic aspects of Petro Volyniak’s collection «The Earth Calls» (Salzburg, 1947). Petro Volyniak as a literary critic is presented in an article devoted to a collection of literary tales by A. Kolomiyets (Salzburg, 1946), which was published by «New Days». Petro Volyniak as a journalist presents the essay «This is our song…». With the help of content analysis it was observed that the text is divided into two parts: the first contains the author’s reflections on the Ukrainian song, its role in the life of the Ukrainian people; in the second, main, Peter Okopny’s activity abroad is presented. The publisher Petro Volyniak in 1947 in a separate publication of the February issue of the weekly summarizes the third year of activity, providing statistics on the publication of periodicals, books, postcards, calendars, various small format materials. The analyzed material demonstrated the experience of combining creative work and commercial activity.
