Abstract:
Pharmacists rely on pharmacy technicians to assist with accurately dispensing prescriptions and providing information to clients. Texas does not have regulations for the education or training of pharmacy technicians, which may result in mistakes when dispensing prescriptions, causing significant harm to customers. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was assessing formally and informally trained pharmacy technicians' job performance as perceived by licensed pharmacists/managers. Data were collected via face to face interviews with 9 pharmacy managers in Texas to gain insight

Credence goods are characterised by qualities of products that cannot be detected by consumers before their use, preventing them from assessing beforehand the true experienced utility. This study aims to apply the credence goods framework to the joint diagnosis-treatment in the sale of over-the-counter medicines in a real world setting. The presence of inefficiencies was studied through a unique sample (394 observations) of OTC pharmaceutical purchases in a controlled Australian field setting. Clinical guidelines developed from randomized controlled trials (RCT) recommend standard treatments for physicians to treat their patients. However, RCT are usually conducted among younger or healthier populations. Patients who did not participate in clinical trials, such as the elderly or patients with comorbidities, might not be suitable for the standard treatments; instead non-standard treatments can be an alternative treatment option to provide clinical benefits. Physicians are key stakeholders in determining the use of non-standard treatments in clinical practice. While a number of studie

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States. COPD is of particular concern in certain sectors of the country, including Central Appalachia where our clinic is located. Assessing patients with COPD presents many challenges as symptoms range from those considered "typical" such as shortness of breath and sputum production to those less often identified like anxiety and social isolation. We conducted a pilot study comparing physician standard assessment of COPD to patient self-assessment using the COPD Assessment Test (CAT). The

XXX Pharmacy is an independently-owned retail pharmacy in Johannesburg. Good Pharmacy Practice standards make it mandatory for pharmacists to provide “pharmaceutical care”, a highly patient-centred approach to providing pharmaceutical services. Since XXX Pharmacy has a high patient load, a shortage of dispensary staff and a strategic focus on operational efficiency, the question arose whether pharmacists comply fully with Good Pharmacy Practice standards for the provision of pharmaceutical care. Non-compliance poses operational risks that could undermine the business’s financial performance
