The Role of Fault Quotient in Determination of the Distance to a Transmission Line Fault The notion of fault quotient refers to single-phase-earth and phase-to-phase faults in one-terminal and two-terminal (double fed), single or parallel power lines at determination of the distance to a fault place using the apparent impedance method. The fault quotient is determined as the ratio of the current through a fault place (fault current) to the current in a faulty phase at single-phase-earth faults and to the difference of currents in faulty phases at phase-to-phase faults. An indicator for ground involvement during faulty condition (SGFI) is being suggested to detect the type of fault. The categorization of faults is done by utilizing faulty phase numbers and SGFI. It is well known there are three main approaches to maintenance of machinery, namely breakdown maintenance, scheduled maintenance and preventive maintenance. Breakdown maintenance is practised when machines are operated until they fail before maintenance is carried out. This out-of-date maintenance policy is slowly being abandoned by industry. Scheduled maintenance relates to interrupting machinery at regular intervals for the purposes of maintenance and this policy is still being used in many areas even though it is expensive one. Abstract:
High soil loads on buried pipelines can lead to unacceptably high pipeline strains developed in response to permanent ground displacement. Common causes of permanent ground displacement are related to slope instability as a result of heavy precipitation or ground subsidence. In addition, several permanent ground displacement hazards are related to earthquakes including surface fault displacement, triggered landslide movement, surface ground settlement related to liquefaction, and lateral spread displacement. Result: Four specific areas of investigation were completed: 1.Performed baseline test
