Abstract:
Finalmente, el Capítulo 5 resume las conclusiones generales.<br>The excessive combustion of fossil fuels results in the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2), which triggers increasing environmental problems, such as, global warming, rising sea levels, extreme weather, and species extinction. Therefore, the technologies for conversion of CO2 into other value products plays a vital role in order to eliminate the CO2 concentration in atmosphere. Thereinto, electrochemical conversion of CO2 powered by renewable energy to useful chemicals is considered as an elegant solution to achieve the carbon cycle. However, due to the innerness of CO2 molecules and competitive hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), the main challenges in the field CO2 RR are the high overpotential requirement that represents the unfavourable thermodynamics and low Faradaic e&#64259;ciency (FE) for the target products. Therefore, searching for a high-efficient and cost-friendly electrocatalyst is sensible and necessary for practical applications. In the past decades, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) engrossed the enormous considerations in the field of electrocatalysis because of their large specific surface area, rich pore structure, and uniformly dispersed active sites. Although they have a great potential in electrocatalysis, most MOFs materials still suffer from insufficient activity, low conductivity, and poor stability, which would hinder their practical applications. Especially, in the field of CO2 RR, many important parameters, including high FE, low overpotential, large current density and robust stability among others, should be considered. Thus, the rational design of MOFs to fulfil the above requirements as much as possible is crucial for exploiting their future in CO2 RR applications. Therefore, in this dissertation, we made many efforts to develop MOFs-based/derived catalysts with superior efficiency, activity, and stability for boosting the CO2 RR performance. This dissertation is divided into 5 chapters: Chapter 1 is the insights on the fundamental concepts about electrochemical CO2 RR, which includes the fundamental cell of electrochemical CO2 RR, reviews the common reduction products and their simple pathways. Meanwhile, the overview of important parameters affecting CO2 RR, including different catalysts over the past years, electrolyte, and the relevant metrics evaluating the electrocatalysts as well as limitations of electrochemical CO2 reduction are also presented in this chapter. In addition, this chapter summarizes the fundamental concepts about MOFs materials and their high-temperature pyrolysis derived materials as the electrocatalysts. Chapter 2 deals with the fabrication of surface modified ZIF-8 as MOFs-based electrode for electrochemical CO2 RR to generate CO. In this work, a surface modified ZIF-8 has been prepared through introducing a very small proportion 2,5-dihidroxyterephthalic acid (DOBDC) into ZIF-8, achieving a higher current density of CO and a boosted Faradaic efficiency. In Chapter 3, a facile route is used to introduce axial bonded O-containing groups into a Fe-N-C catalyst through pyrolysis of Fe-doped Zn-based metal organic frameworks (IRMOF-3), forming highly dispersed Fe single atoms with HO-FeN4 active sites. Due to the local environment modulation induced by such -OH groups, the D-Fe-N-C catalyst exhibits an enhanced CO2 RR activity, including a high selectivity with CO Faradaic efficiency, and a robust stability, which is higher than that of the reported normal FeN4 sites without -OH groups. In Chapter 4, we proposed that introducing Fe atoms into Ni-N-C catalysts fabricates double metal (bimetallic) single-atom catalysts (Ni/Fe-N-C) towards CO2 RR to achieve a high selectivity and activity simultaneously. The optimized double-metal Ni/Fe-N-C catalyst showed an excellent performance, obtaining a high selectivity with a high CO Faradaic efficiency at a low overpotential. The performance obtained is superior to both single metal counterparts and other state-of-the-art M-N-C catalysts, proving that regulating single active sites with a second metal site potentially breaks the single metal-based activity benchmark to obtain the high selectivity and activity in CO2 RR, simultaneously. Finally, Chapter 5 summarizes the general conclusions.<br>Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Programa de Doctorat en Ciència de Materials

Abstract:
The intent of this study was to establish and validate criteria for use to assess the quality of a library and information sciences (LIS) Ph.D. program. The Ph.D. student-centric topology for quality Ph.D. programs was developed from a 2001 position statement by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) regarding the quality indicators in research-focused doctoral programs in nursing. Topology components were tested using a survey instrument to establish their importance to the community of practice and their potential use to assess a Ph.D. program. Survey participants were asked to rank terms or concepts in a balanced incomplete block (BIB) design then rate, on a Likert-type scale, statements about the applicability of these terms or concepts to assessing a quality LIS Ph.D. program. Survey participants were from the Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) Open Lib/Info Sci Education Forum jESSE Listserv. Of 225 survey participants affiliated with universities or schools from North America who submitted usable surveys, slightly less than two-thirds (64.4 %) were female while 35.5 % were male. Ninety-eight participants (43.6 %) were faculty, 114 (50.7 %) were Ph.D. students or candidates, and 13 (5.8 %) were in other roles. Statistical analysis of survey responses showed consistent results between the different demographic groups. The topology was validated by the results of the statistical analysis of the research data. Every component of the topology was acknowledged as very important to assess the quality of a LIS Ph.D. program. Faculty was the highest ranked item in the BIB analysis with a statistically significant difference (p < .0001) in the mean rank order from the next highest ranked item, Ph.D. students. The rank order from the BIB analysis was as follows: faculty, Ph.D. students, programs (courses) of study, teaching, learning environment, resources, and evaluation. Faculty was also the highest rated item in the Likert-type statement analysis.

Abstract:
This study sought to understand why some students at Eagle University (pseudo.) complete the doctoral program in instructional technology while others do not. The study explores factors and issues affecting doctoral attrition and completion of the Ph.D. in instructional technology (IT) in the College of Education at Eagle University, a major research university with very high research activity. Participants in the study were eleven former doctoral students from Eagle University (pseudo.), six of whom met the requirements for graduation (completers) and five of whom ended the pursuit of the doctoral degree in instructional technology at EU (non-completers). A qualitative study informed by phenomenology, the purpose of the study was to explore these phenomena from the perspective of the students. Postmodernism served as the theoretical framework. Participants were interviewed using the structured interview guide developed by the researcher. Two important findings were that only one of the eleven students knew what to expect from the program; and that completers were more likely to report that their primary motivation for pursuing the Ph.D. was for personal satisfaction. Recommendations were made based on student feedback, and included implications for students as well as implications for the university/program. Examples of advice for students were: 1) contemplate their goal(s) in pursuing the Ph.D. and consider the impact if something happened to alter that goal, and 2) seek out doctoral support groups and begin to establish relationships with current members. Two selected recommendations for the university/program were 1) develop a pre-application seminar or eLearning module to provide potential doctoral students with a realistic understanding of the program, and 2) consider developing a mentoring program that matched more experienced students or non-advisory professors to new students. Results of the study indicated that multiple factors affected both completers and non-completers; and these factors were often similar. However, among the key factors separating completers from non-completers were the determination of the student and the quality of the advisor relationship.

Abstract:
Research suggests that the transition to adolescence and secondary school can be challenging and potentially disruptive to adolescent functioning. Large-scale studies on the effectiveness of peer support programs are currently lacking and those that have been conducted are compromised by methodological problems. The primary purpose of this research was to 1/ identify psychometrically sound measurement instruments for use with secondary school students; 2/ test the impact of the peer support program on espoused program outcomes and other aspects of students' psychological well-being and adjustment to the secondary schooling context; 3/ extend previous research by examining the effects of serving as a peer support leader on leadership ability and other psychological constructs; and 4/ identify students' perceptions of the impact, strengths and weaknesses of the program in order to further strengthen peer support intervention design. The findings have important implications for the provision of programs and techniques employed to address students' problems following the transition to adolescence and secondary school. In particular, they suggest that peer support programs have the potential to make a significant contribution to schools' efforts to orchestrate positive outcomes, not only for early adolescents, but also for older students who implement the program

Abstract:
Globally the diabetes epidemic is a major health challenge. Associated with the diagnosis of diabetes is the morbidity and premature mortality stemming from the complications of the disease. It was identified that approximately 50% of clients who attended a diabetes centre in an outer western metropolitan region of Sydney were not completing diabetes education. A strategy employed to overcome this was the introduction of a 2 ½ hour group diabetes education program called the Ongoing Education System (OES), for persons with Type 2 diabetes, that enabled completion of education at this one session. However, debate occurred among health professionals at the Wentworth Diabetes Service (WDS) as to the effectiveness of the OES as compared to the traditional individual education sessions. (one-on-one education). The purpose of this study was to compare the outcomes of two modes of diabetes education for completing education for clients with Type 2 diabetes , namely individual education (Treatment A) and the OES group education (Treatment B). The findings overall revealed no difference in the outcomes of participants who received individual education and those who received the OES at completion of education as well as at 6 and 12 month post education. A secondary finding of this study was the significant influence gender and age exerted on the outcomes of the education programs. One significant implication from the findings for both the person diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and the health care organisation is that the OES provides a cost effective alternative to individual education that encourages clients to complete diabetes education thereby enabling the person to achieve an optimal quality of life. In addition this study provides research evidence for the benefit of current practice in diabetes education.

Novak, Iona. "Effectiveness of occupational therapy home program intervention for children with cerebral palsy : a double blind randomised controlled trial." Thesis, View thesis, 2009. http://handle.uws.edu.au:8081/1959.7/38884.

Full text
Abstract:
Home programs are widely used by occupational therapists as a strategy to address health and development needs of children with cerebral palsy. Experts believe they are essential. Despite wide-spread clinical use there is no high quality research evidence proving home program effectiveness. Further there is no information that provides a parent perspective on home programs. The aim of this research was to evaluate the effectiveness of occupational therapy home program intervention for school-aged children with cerebral palsy and identify factors perceived to be important in home program practice from a parent perspective. A double blind randomised controlled trial design was used to evaluate effectiveness, where parents and evaluators were blinded to intervention. Children were randomised to three groups, home program intervention for eight weeks (“8WEEKS”), home program intervention for four weeks (“4WEEKS”), and a control group, that did not receive home program intervention (“NoHP”). The primary end-point was change in performance of functional activities and satisfaction with function as measured by the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM), after eight weeks. Secondary endpoints were change in COPM scores after four weeks, goal achievement at four and eight weeks as measured by Goal Attainment Scale (GAS), quality of arm movement at four and eight weeks measured on the Quality of Upper Extremity Skills Test (QUEST) and participation levels at four and eight weeks measured on the Children’s Assessment of Participation and Enjoyment (CAPE). Parent experience was explored through semistructured interviews of parents who participated in the home program trial. Content analysis of interview data was conducted to the level of “open coding” to identify factors. Results for the primary outcome measure at the primary end point (eight weeks) - Effect of an 8WEEK or 4WEEK home program on COPM scores: comparison between the three groups was conducted using a linear regression model with baseline COPM performance/satisfaction scores, participant age and severity of cerebral palsy as measured by the GMFCS entered into the model as covariates. Overall, there were statistically significant and clinically important differences in performance of activities and satisfaction with function on COPM when comparing either home program group to the NoHP group at eight weeks. There was no difference between 4WEEKS versus 8WEEKS on COPM performance or satisfaction scores at eight weeks. Results on secondary outcome measures: compared to NoHP, receiving a home program for either 4WEEKs or 8WEEKs increased COPM performance scores and GAS measures at four weeks, and increased COPM performance and satisfaction scores, GAS measures, and QUEST scores at eight weeks. There were no differences within or between groups on the CAPE at either four week or eight weeks. There were no statistically significant between-group differences between the 4WEEK and 8WEEK home program groups on any secondary outcome measures. This was most likely the result of a protocol implementation flaw that occurred in the study where 4WEEK group participants continued program activity for the final four weeks when they should have suspended it. Parents perceived their experience of implementing home programs as characterised by five features: 'guidance for the journey', practice makes perfect, they were a necessary 'way of life', they maximised progress and something that made it easier to juggle competing demands. Positive home program experiences were characterised by: support, realistic expectations, flexibility, motivation from goals, activities that translated to real-life, reminders to practice, progress updates and role clarity. Parents advised other parents to: accept the disability, never refuse help, be honest, consider home programs essential, develop routines and view programs as a way of improving the child and parents’ life. No negative experiences were reported. Parents advised professionals that they wanted: support, interdisciplinary co-ordination of programs, advice without pressure and prognostic guidance for future planning. This dissertation presents new information about occupational therapy home programs. Until this study, there was little research evidence to inform therapist or parent decision-making regarding the therapeutic value of home programs or the parent perspective on home programs. Findings from this dissertation can inform clinical practice and parent decisions regarding the use of home program interventions for children with cerebral palsy.

Horowitz, Lenore G. "Exploring the impact of program structure on student and faculty scholarly communities in interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs." Thesis, State University of New York at Albany, 2013. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=3561717.

Abstract:
<p> The Information Science doctoral program at the University at Albany, State University of New York, faces many of the same challenges found in highly interdisciplinary programs across educational institutions worldwide such as complex curricula development, abundant discipline languages and cultures, and stakeholders clinging to the traditional, single-discipline university system. In 2006, the University at Albany Information Science Ph.D. program faculty redefined the program's structure in hopes of addressing the challenges it was facing. Program structure is a social process shaped by community participation and is influenced by many factors including students, faculty members, and both informal and formal knowledge production. </p><p> Drawing on data collected with both students and faculty present before, during and after the transition to the new program structure, a mixed-method research strategy was performed to examine student retention rates and time to degree, and to explore the experiences of program faculty members' and doctoral students' sense of community and connectedness. Drawing on Wenger's (1998) Community of Practice model and Tinto's model of Institutional Departure, this study occurs in three stages: [1] program and participants' content analysis, [2] surveying of student and faculty members, and [3] select interviews with student and faculty members. </p><p> The data presented here highlights the unique challenges of doctoral interdisciplinary programs and supports the need for collaboration among faculty, and calls for the unquestionable patronage of the institution and the diverse departments involved. Seeing that interdisciplinary programs work across different disciplines, students and faculty alike often find it difficult to assimilate the diverse ways of teaching and methods of research thus calling for unique organizational and pedagogical strategies addressed in the curricula. Successful interdisciplinary programs need faculty who are broad-minded and willing to embrace and learn new methodologies, and respect sometimes conflicting viewpoints. Departments need to develop new models of organizational structure and funding sources to facilitate interdisciplinary research and interdisciplinary community. University leadership needs to move away from rigid hierarchical structures, add more flexibility to allow faculty members to have some movement between disciplinary departments, and needs to provide physical spaces to pull the diverse faculty and student communities together.</p>

This thesis is located within the social and political context of Indigenous education within Australia. Indigenous people continue to experience unacceptable levels of disadvantage and social marginalisation. The struggle for indigenous students individually and collectively lies in being able to determine a direction which is productive and non-assimilationist – which offers possibilities of social and economic transformation, equal opportunities and cultural integrity and self-determination. The challenge for teachers within the constraints of the academy is to develop strategies that are genuinely transformative, empowering and contribute to decolonisation and positive social change. This thesis explores how the construction of two theoretical propositions – the Indigenous Community Management and Development (ICMD) practitioner and the Indigenous/non-Indigenous Interface – are decolonising and transformative strategies. It investigates how these theoretical constructs and associated discourses are incorporated into the Centre’s policy processes, curriculum and pedagogy to influence and interact with the everyday lives of students in their work and communities and the wider social institutions. It charts how a group of Indigenous and non-Indigenous staff interact with these propositions and different ideas and discourses interrupting, re-visioning, reformulating and integrating these to form the basis for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous futures in Australia.

Abstract:
This work applies to an electronic solution for administration of the company's library. On the basis of an analysis of the current access and its defects a list of qualitative and functional requests for application, which is consequently drafted and implemented, has been compiled. The final system has a form of web application, which is available to its users through Internet browser from an arbitrary device connected to the company's computer net (eventually Internet), including mobile phones etc. Thanks to the fact that the program is based exclusively on open-source technologies, there are no license fees of third parties connected with its setting or operation. The application foremost enables its users (mostly employees of a company) to accede the online book catalogue, search it using different criteria, acquire information about available books and make reservations of the required books to be lent. Librarians within the system administrate especially a book catalogue and reservations and borrows of the books. The program strongly diversifies with its functionality from solution for classic public libraries -- it is possible to register and administrate there the private books of employees, information about current borrow of the given book are available to all users, it is allowed to the employees to dispose the borrows between themselves, users are able to insert commentaries to the books etc. As a part of this work there is a source code of the application and users' manual containing except for description of functions the preview of screens of the system as well.

Abstract:
<p> This research utilized qualitative methods to explore how students and faculty perceive the contextual engagement of the PhD program at three select theological institutions in the Majority World. This research has value, as such engagement is both an explicit and implicit value of doctoral programs located in the Majority World. Over the last decade, the number of PhD programs established to serve the church in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Middle East and the number of students in them has risen rapidly. The research is descriptive in nature and not an attempt to evaluate the level of success or merit of such programs. Rather, it assumed that each program engages its context and sought to identify common themes as well as areas of convergence and divergence as indicated by faculty and student stakeholders. </p><p> The study consisted of thirty-six interviews. Sets of six faulty members and six doctoral students at each of three seminaries located in the Majority World were asked to share from their experiences in the doctoral program. The participating schools were Africa International University in Nairobi, Kenya; South Asian Institute for Advanced Christian Studies in Bangalore, India and Seminario Teol&oacute;gico Centroamericano, Guatemala City, Guatemala. The study asked participants to describe how the PhD program engages the context including classroom teaching and learning tasks, course outputs, including dissertations, and other non-formal aspects of the doctoral experience. </p><p> The findings revealed three primary categories of contextual engagement described by the faculty and students across the three contexts. The participants first described how the intentional design of the programs including explicit and implicit components of the curriculum engage the context. Secondly, students and faculty addressed issues of worldview and cultural values. Contextual insiders provide a depth of understanding not available outside of the context. Intracultural critique ensures contextually engaged aspects are improved through peer interactions. Finally, student and faculty participants found adult learning practices very helpful to overcome conditioned dependency on traditional education models. Participants perceived these practices as particularly helpful for engaging the local context.</p>

Abstract:
Nowadays, many important activities in our lives involve the web. However, the software and protocols on which web applications are based were not designed with the appropriate level of security in mind. Many web applications have reached a level of complexity for which testing, code reviews and human inspection are no longer sufficient quality-assurance guarantees. Tools that employ static analysis techniques are needed in order to explore all possible execution paths through an application and guarantee the absence of undesirable behaviours. To make sure that an analysis captures the properties of interest, and to navigate the trade-offs between efficiency and precision, it is necessary to base the design and the development of static analysis tools on a firm understanding of the language to be analysed. When this underlying knowledge is missing or erroneous, tools can't be trusted no matter what advanced techniques they use to perform their task. In this Thesis, we introduce KPHP, the first executable formal semantics of PHP, one of the most popular languages for server-side web programming. Then, we demonstrate its practical relevance by developing two verification tools, of increasing complexity, on top of it - a simple verifier based on symbolic execution and LTL model checking and a general purpose, fully configurable and extensible static analyser based on Abstract Interpretation. Our LTL-based tool leverages the existing symbolic execution and model checking support offered by K, our semantics framework of choice, and constitutes a first proof-of-concept of the usefulness of our semantics. Our abstract interpreter, on the other hand, represents a more significant and novel contribution to the field of static analysis of dynamic scripting languages (PHP in particular). Although our tool is still a prototype and therefore not well suited for handling large real-world codebases, we demonstrate how our semantics-based, principled approach to the development of verification tools has lead to the design of static analyses that outperform existing tools and approaches, both in terms of supported language features, precision, and breadth of possible applications.

Full text
Abstract:

Abstract:
Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited.<br>The purpose of this thesis is to conduct a feasibility study for establishing a Ph.D. program for the Administrative Sciences department and to prepare a Ph.D. proposal to submit to the Academic Council for program approval. According to the Academic Council requirements regarding the Ph.D. program, the following questions are addressed: (1) does the department have an active masters program; (2) does the department offer adequate physical facilities to support Ph.D. research; (3) is the faculty diverse enough; (4) is the faculty currently active in research; (5) does the faculty have sufficient doctoral program experience; and (6) does the department have sufficient faculty members in the subfield where it is proposed to award the doctorate. The results of this study indicate that the Department of Administrative Sciences meets all the criteria set forth by the Academic Council Policy Manual (Section 259). A strong Administrative Sciences doctoral program would strengthen the Naval Postgraduate School's mission to serve DON/DOD advanced educational needs.

Abstract:
Primary Health Care (PHC) plays a vital role in decentralization of health care services. PHC is designed to ensure health care coverage at the community level through the involvement of the community in improving their healthy living. PHC offers treatment and care in continuum that is supported by a facility-linked home- based care system and a referral system. While PHC is global, its operation and functioning in the area of community health provisioning varies across communities. The main objective of this study is to find out whether PHC is effective or not in Roma Valley, Lesotho. The study was carried out in Roma Valley, in the Maseru district of Lesotho. The population for this study includes the nurses under the department of PHC, village health workers, Chiefs and out-patients from four different villages. Out of this, a sample of thirty individuals was selected. The data for this study was collected through qualitative research technique, particularly oral interviews and written records or secondary data sources. The analysis revealed that nurses and village health workers respond to the social needs and health problems of the community and community members are also involved in improving their health status. Village health workers face many challenges in their engagement in this system such as not being given incentives for what they do and often uncooperative disposition of some community members including their leaders. It was also found that they operate under a lot of stress due to lack of resources.

Abstract:
Web Services have been the dominant technology in business integration and implementation of service oriented architectures. PHP is a server-side language popular for development of applications. A significant advantage of PHP is its light weight development for feature-rich web applications. Typically, PHP is used for making good-looking front end user interfaces; Java or other programming languages are used to develop the back end application. A secure and robust way for PHP programs to call back-end services is by Web Services. However, when the Web Service operations have complex interfaces, writing PHP client code can be difficult and error-prone. This thesis research seeks to develop a Web service-PHP program middleware that automatically handles the client-side Web Service calls. Two Web Services are developed, as well as two Web applications that consume the two Web Services, and experiments that demonstrate the usage of the WS-PHP middleware component are conducted.

Abstract:
<p> The purpose of this study was to contribute to the debate over the value of the Ph.D. versus the Ed.D. in higher education. A mixed methods design was used to explore why some institutions simultaneously offer two tracks to the higher education doctorate (Ph.D. and Ed.D.) and the difference between programs at institutions where only one track to the doctorate was offered. Specifically, I aimed to identify the level of distinction between these two types of doctoral degrees. The differences were examined between the Ph.D. and the Ed.D. in higher education in terms of programs&rsquo; rationale, mission, admission requirements, curricula, and dissertations. The research study relies on the inputs-environment-outcomes model proposed by Astin (1993). In the first phase of this study qualitative data were collected from five doctoral programs in higher education that offered both Ph.D. and Ed.D. tracks to the doctorate in higher education. The results from the qualitative phase were used for the development of a questionnaire and a dissertation analysis form to be used in the second quantitative phase of the study.</p><p> The quantitative phase of the study consisted of a survey and a curriculum analysis of more with more than 2,600 courses from 125 doctoral programs in higher education. Fife&rsquo;s (1991) classification of higher education courses was used to categorize and compare the curriculum of Ph.D. and Ed.D. programs. Based on the results of this study, a profile of Ph.D. and Ed.D. programs in higher education was developed.</p>

Abstract:
U.S. doctoral program completion rates have remained persistently low in the humanities and biomedical sciences despite educators' efforts. A variety of factors, including stress and dissitation advisor-related issues, were associated with high attrition rates and extended time-to-degree for PhD candidates. The purpose of this correlational study was to examine relationships among life stressors, advisor-related factors, and time-to-degree for a convenience sample of 74 online social sciences doctoral degree holders. Holmes and Rahe's work on stress and Tinto's framework for education program attrition provided the framework for the study. Linear regression and Pearson's correlation statistics were used to examine the relationships between Social Readjustment Rating Scale (SRRS) scores, Advisor-Related Factor scores, and time-to-degree after controlling for covariates of age, ethnicity, and gender. Key findings included: a) SRRS significantly (p < .01) predicted time-to-degree after controlling for age, ethnicity, and gender; and b) no significant relationship was found between advisor-related factors. By identifying at-risk students, early intervention could reduce the time need to complete a PhD program and reduce financial and university resources required to finish. Doctoral program administrators could provide closer supervision with PhD candidates and make adjustments based on an accumulation of extraordinary stressors to help PhD candidiates adjust and finish their programs.

There is a great variety of software solutions which improve quality of work and increase productivity. Nevertheless there still is a demand for specialized software sollutions, often coupled to particular production systems. In this work author approaches such a concrete subject of computer hardware and repair in small and medium enterprise. Proposed information system not only allows internal administration of service requests within a company, but also provides complete status and process overview for customers accessing company's intranet. This is a unique solution of a kind as others are too general and do not fullfil specific demands posed in the specification. The main subject of this work is software design, development and investigation. Analysis of current software technology platforms was performed and the best deployment platform LAMP (Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP) was selected. Modular system design provided easy system development and future extendability as well as integration into other portals. Final resulting information system incorporates a number of advanced networking and programming technologies: template engine, certificate based security, data encryption engine and others. Implemented software is customized to meet the needs of particular enterprise and is currently used as part of its' intranet and service network. Legal open source technologies were mostly used for developing the product.

Abstract:
The concept of Pharmaceutical Care is specifically succeeded when the pharmacist can identify, prevent and resolve negative outcomes associated with medication (NOM). According to the Third Consensus of Granada, these outcomes are related to patient health outcomes that are not consistent with the objectives of pharmacotherapy, associated with use or errors in the use of medicines. The classification of NOM is done according to the categories of the necessity, effectiveness and safety of pharmacotherapy. The incidence of NOM increases with quantity of drugs, age and number of comorbities. Thus, the pharmacist can provide the correct use of the medicines to patients who are attended at home. Purpose. Describe the profile of the population included in the home assistance program (PAD) of the Universitary Hospital of the USP and achieve the recognition, qualification and quantification of NOM related to the pharmaceutical care services for these patients during the period the study. Method. Descriptive and prospective study. The pharmacotherapy plan was completed during the interview with the patient or caregiver. The data were evaluated by a situational analysis that provide to identify, resolve or prevent NOM. The classification of NOM is based in the Third Consensus of Granada. The data were released in EPI Info and statistically analyzed by the SAS 8.0 software. Results. The study included 87 patients with a mean age of 66 years. The patients were mostly adults (89%), female (58%), retired (62%), and 86% of attendances are dedicated to population lives in who Butantã Sub-District. They are mostly married (41%) or widowed (35%). A large part of them (48%) are caring for the daughter or son. The level of education (39% is first degree incomplete). Among patients 33% had a single NOM and 29% had more than one, with an average of 1.13 NOM per patient. The NOM more incidents in the sample are non-quantitative ineffectiveness (35%) and untreated health problem (21%). Conclusion. For this population it was concluded that there are several factors related to the occurrence of NOM of the effectiveness group. They are: age (p = 0.0199), education (p = 0.0266), number of comorbidities (p = 0.0461), use of medicines for the digestive tract and metabolism (p = 0.0475) and use medicines for the blood and blood forming organs (p = 0.0466). The pharmacist has an important role in the prevention, identification and resolution of NOM for Home Assistance Program.

Neill, James T. "Enhancing life effectiveness : the impacts of outdoor education programs." Thesis, View thesis, 2008. http://handle.uws.edu.au:8081/1959.7/40186.

Full text
Abstract:
Outdoor education offers a promising method for developing life skills, however this field is undermined by ad hoc theory and limited research. This thesis offers a critical synthesis of theoretical and empirical outdoor education literature, develops instrumentation to measure life effectiveness, and reports on a large, longitudinal study of outdoor education program life effectiveness outcomes. Outdoor education was reviewed as consisting of seven theoretically interactive domains (participant, environment, program, activity, group, instructor, and culture) within a dynamic, experiential milieu. A theoretical systems framework is proposed, drawing on Dewey’s theory of experience, to illustrate how participants’ experiences of outdoor education might be understood as arising within a “complex system”. A critical review of traditional and meta-analytic reviews of empirical outdoor education research indicated small-moderate positive impacts on typically measured outcomes (e.g. self-concept, locus of control, and social skills; ES ~ 0.35). However, this research has been limited by a lack of appropriate dependent measures, low statistical power, over-reliance on inferential statistics, a lack of control and comparison groups, a lack of longitudinal data, and a lack of investigation of independent variables. To address such issues, Study 1 developed new measurement instrumentation and Study 2 conducted a large, longitudinal study. “Life effectiveness” was proposed to refer to generic life skills which facilitate surviving and thriving across a variety of situations. Life effectiveness skills were further proposed to be enhanceable through intervention. Study 1 investigated the psychometrics of the 11-factor, 64-item Life Effectiveness Questionnaire version G (LEQ-G) through congeneric and confirmatory factor analyses (N = 1,164). Three problematic factors and several weaker items were removed, leading to an 8-factor, 24-item model (LEQ-H) with an excellent fit (TLI = .984; N = 1,892). A global second-order model also provided an excellent fit (TLI = .980), with evidence for factorial invariance of the second-order factor across gender and age, and promising evidence for factorial invariance of the first-order model. Further development of the LEQ was recommended to consider construct validity, other life effectiveness factors, and ongoing item development (e.g. to reduce skewness).

Abstract:
This research examines WHY and HOW a new approach to Enterprise Strategy and IT planning can be adopted in the European national financial sector by using Enterprise Architecture (EA). EA has been promoted as a key tool for transformation and modernisation of the enterprise. By following best practices from successful case studies and the European Central Bank (ECB), the claim is that the adoption of EA will ensure that IT resources and business processes are planned, leveraged, and coordinated better in national financial sectors. In our five supporting papers, several qualitative case studies in Europe were investigated by applying an interpretive perspective. According to common belief EA connects business and IT; it is an important tool for survival and growth. Many EA endeavours, however, fail. The question is how can risks of EA implementation failure be reduced at an early stage? Underlying questions concern: why would a particular organisation need EA, can implementation risks be identified and are solutions available to reduce the failure rate? In order to answer research questions a literature study is performed to build the Business Transformation Enablement Program framework (BTEP). It advocates deliberate motivation, active risk management and an iterative and incremental implementation of EA. Next to the literature, the framework is validated through the Small National Bank (SNB) implementation. Data was collected in both structured, semi-structured and ad-hoc methods. Grounded theory techniques were used to analyse the data logically, using existing theory only as prior constructs. The theoretical abstractions, generalisations and experience generated in the research process have been published and availed to specialised groups.

We understand that the forms of response to the needs of the PCD are linked to the different models of corporate organization and that, in the capitalist mode of production, does not escape the logic of productivity and extraction of surpluses necessary for the accumulation of capital. In 2012, the BPC Work Program was created, which aims to promote access to professional qualification and the labor market for beneficiaries of the Benefict of Continuous Provision (BPC). The present dissertation aims to analyze the insertion in the labor market of disabled people, beneficiaries of BPC, through this Program. To do so, we undertake a theoretical approach in order to understand the economic and political ground in which the object is inserted, as well as to analyze issues specific to the PCD. We take as a historic mark the crisis of capital and the bourgeois responses to the resumption of growth, with direct implications in the world of labor under productive restructuring and social policies, considering also the current conjuncture of counterreforms. In the Brazilian particularity, we infer how the ideals of social-liberalism were impregnated in social policies, in particular in the politics of Social Assistance, during the period of the PT governments, being the Program in study aligned to such perspective. About people with disabilities, we approach the questions about their denomination and insertion in social relations in different societal contexts, as a preamble to comprehend the relationship of this segment with the world of work. The methodology adopted prioritized the bibliographic and documentary study, which took place in the sense of understanding the contradictions and mediations intrinsic to this object. From the critical-dialectical approach, through the Marxian categories, we seek to capture it from its appearance. Based on information from the Ministries of policies involved in the implementation of the Program (social assistance, education and labor), as well as from the National Institute of Social Security, we have taken a course that has allowed us to make important approaches to the Program. The contradictions that permeate social policies and current downward trends in the face of the offensive of neoliberal orthodoxy imply a great deal in the applicability of the Program and in what it means the beneficiaries of the BPC are considered capable of producing and then called to be inserted in the job market. Therefore, in discussing the autonomy of PCDs through work and stressing the relationship between social assistance and labor, the Program in question puts issues relevant to the demands of the PCD on the agenda and, at the same time, is functional to capital, in a peculiar way in times of crisis, because it ends up being a gateway to the BPC, when it stimulates them to enter the labor market, to become self-sufficient citizens, emancipated in appearance, with implications for the composition of relative overpopulation and lump-proletariat.<br>O trabalho das pessoas com deficiência (PCD) tem sido, historicamente, bandeira de luta dos movimentos sociais desse segmento sob o discurso da inclusão social.

Abstract:
The strength of program static analysis techniques lies on its ability to detect faulty behaviors prior to the execution. This ability requires that the analysis process foresees any possible runtime scenario. A task which is even more complex in the case of concurrent programs, because of the number of alternatives introduced by the usual nondeterminism. In this particular case, some of the most common faulty behaviors are those about erroneous usage of resources, presence of deadlocks and data race conflicts. Behavioral type systems for programming languages provide a strong mechanism for reasoning on programs actions at static time. In this thesis we discuss two static analysis techniques based on this approach. The first one, targets the resource usage in an ad-hoc language with full-fledged operations for acquiring and releasing virtual machines. The second one, targets the deadlock analysis of Java programs. In both cases we provide a formal proof of correctness, along with prototype implementations that allow practically to test the feasibility of these solutions. These prototypes have also allowed assessing these techniques against others existing in the literature obtaining very encouraging results.
