Abstract:
The western and central Indian Ocean population of the fairy wrasse, Cirrhilabrus rubriventralis, is here split into three allopatric species: the type species from the Red Sea; C. rubeus, n. sp., a new central Indian Ocean species from Sri Lanka and the Maldives; and C. africanus n. sp., a new east African coastal species. The three species are mainly differentiated by the color patterns of terminal-phase (TP) males. The two new species diverge from C. rubriventralis in the sequence of the barcode-mtDNA COI marker by 2.6% and 0.5%, respectively (pairwise distance; 2.7% and 0.5% K2P distance).

Abstract:
Abstract Position-effect variegation of transgene expression is sensitive to the chromatin state. We previously reported a forward genetic screen in mice carrying a variegated a-globin GFP transgene to find novel genes encoding epigenetic regulators. We named the phenovariant strains "Mommes" for Modifiers of murine metastable epi-alleles. Here we report positional cloning of mutations in two Momme strains which result in suppression of variegation; i.e. an increased percentage of GFP+ circulating red blood cells. Both strains harbour point mutations in the erythroid specific transcription fac

Abstract:
A new species of labrid, Cirrhilabrus marinda, is described from 29 type specimens, 17.4–45.9 mm SL, collected at Ayau Atoll, West Papua Province, Indonesia and 7 non-type specimens, 32.0–67.0 mm SL, from Halmahera, Indonesia and the vicinity of Espiritu Santo, Vanuatu. The new taxon is closely related to Cirrhilabrus condei of Indonesia (West Papua), Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Coral Sea, and the northern Great Barrier Reef, mainly differing in the shape and colouration of the male dorsal fin. The spinous dorsal fin of C. marinda is mostly black and noticeably taller than the soft port

Abstract:
Streptocarpus prolixus C.B. Clarke is a species in the family Gesneriaceae characterized by an acaulescent vegetative body. Instead of a stem bearing leaves developing from a shoot apical meristem, its vegetative body derives from the continued, intercalary growth of one of its cotyledons. β-glucosyl Yariv phenyglycoside (β-D-Glc)3 selectively binds a class of cell surface associated proteoglycans and glycoproteins known as arabinogalactan-proteins (AGPs). Treating seeds and seedlings of S. prolixus with (β-D-Glc)3 induced phenovariants considered phyogenetically significant because they copie

Abstract:
With the wide availability of massively parallel sequencing technologies, genetic mapping has become the rate limiting step in mammalian forward genetics. Here we introduce a method for real-time identification of N-ethyl-N-nitrosourea-induced mutations that cause phenotypes in mice. All mutations are identified by whole exome G1 progenitor sequencing and their zygosity is established in G2/G3 mice before phenotypic assessment. Quantitative and qualitative traits, including lethal effects, in single or multiple combined pedigrees are then analyzed with Linkage Analyzer, a software program that
