Abstract:
AbstractMartial introduces the sitting figure of a Hercules Epitrapezios in two epigrams of his ninth book (9. 43, 44). The first of them highlights the artistic qualities of the small statuette supposed to be of Lysippan origin. Its glory is further enhanced by the illustrious series of highborn predecessors whose table the little figurine had previously adorned. The verses of this first epigram are flamboyant in style with a strong epic colouring whereas the second epigram treats the same subject in a very different manner. The final point of this more modest piece with its allusion to Phidias remains unclear. A number of contentious explanations have been proposed, of which most fail to convince in as much as textual criticism of the passage has been unduly neglected by philologists and archaeologists. As a result of our proposal the name of the highly celebrated sculptor Phidias gives rise to a pun which makes reference to the small scale of the objet d'art.

Abstract:
Abstract Since Antiquity Phidias seems to be the best sculptor of Gods, because he carved great statues with his human hands and succeeded in giving a physical look to that which is not visible to human eyes. This paper is devoted to Cicero’s attention on the imaginative creation of the artist and on the philosophical features of that demiurgical activity which the Roman philosopher links to his interpretation of the Platonic theory of the Forms. The survey led on some Ciceronian texts shows, from a philosophical and philological point of view, the way in which Cicero reconsiders the role of the phantasia, offering a revalution of the art.

Abstract:
The current campaign to return to Athens the Parthenon sculptures that have been in the British Museum since the early 19th century highlights the profoundly dual nature of Greek architectural and sculptural heritage, as emblems of both Greek and global attachment. Classical relics in particular have become symbols of Greek attachment to the homeland; underscoring links between past and present, they confirm and celebrate Greek national identity. Other elements of Greek heritage – language, literature, religion, folklore – likewise lend strength to this identity, but material remnants of past glories, notably temples and sculptures from the times of Phidias and Praxiteles, assume an increasingly important symbolic role (Cook 1984; Hitchens 1987).

Abstract:
AbstractDesign rationale is a topic that implies different things to different people. To some it implies argumentation and frameworks for argumentation. To others it implies the documentation of design, like that required for many types of industrial or government work. Still others describe design rationale as the capture and potential reuse of normal communication about design. These perspectives of design rationale use different representations, which influence their ability to capture and to retrieve and use information. We propose an integrated approach to design rationale where design communication is captured and, over time, incrementally structured into argumentation and other formalisms to enable improved retrieval and use of this information. Two systems, PHIDIAS and the Hyper-Object Substrate, are used to demonstrate: (1) how to capture and integrate a variety of design information, (2) how to support the structuring of unstructured information, and (3) how to use design information to actively support design.

In contrast to previous opinions this paper shows that the scholiasts believed Philochoros’ information to belong to the events of 432/1 bc.

Abstract:
Until the 18th century, the word “art” meant the product of the artisan (not the artist) and, by extension, also meant the product itself. Objects manufactured by craftsmen had, first of all, a useful function, although they might also have had a symbolic or aesthetic meaning. The concept of aesthetics is actually much older, considering the antiquity of Rome and Greece. And in Egypt, 3,500 years ago, at Saqqara, the first stone pyramid was engraved by scribes expressing their admiration for it.These artisans were famous for the quality of their work, for their genius in mastering their knowledge. One is reminded of Phidias in Athens, Michelangelo and Julius II, or Leonardo da Vinci and Francois the 1st.However, the social status of such artists was probably not very different from the status of other exceptional artisans in fields such as jewelry, metallurgy, clothing, music, etc. “Ĺart pour l'art,” a tenet which ignored the function of the object, arose only during the last century. In other words, almost all objects or artifacts in museums were originally devised and built to achieve a very specific and useful function.

Abstract: The statue of Zeus at Olympia by Phidias and the colossal statue of Helios at Rhodes by Chares of Lindos, two of the 7 Wonders of Antiquity and the only ones of sculptural character, became iconographic models of power, majesty and the colossal for emperors, for personified abstractions as well as for other gods. We intend to highlight the great relevance and religious influence of the most paradigmatic representations of these gods over two thousand years, thanks to having paraded in those privileged catwalks that constituted the different lists of the 7 Wonders of the ancient world. Abstract:
The object of research is the shadow economy as structural component (invariant) of economic security of state on example of Ukraine. The level of shadowing of Ukrainian economy requires improvement of both: the system of indicators and mechanism of influence on the level of shadowing on the basis of using of fundamental constants of mathematics of harmony and principle of structural harmony of systems. Under research, fundamental provisions and methods of the theory of safety studies, economic theory, theories of systems and structural harmony of systems, institutionalism, transdisciplinary nature were used. The theme of management of the system of economic security of the state is investigated from various scientific positions of classical science. At the same time, practically ignores the theory of synergetic, which is the synthesis of transdisciplinary approach, price approach, classical theory of systems, structural harmony of systems, theory of fractals and attractors and other components of theory of complexity. Obviously, any system has metric characteristics inherent. The most widespread math constant found in nature is the Phidias number (Golden section). Meаsure is the most important component of all and any knowledge, without it any description of processes and phenomena will be incorrect. The law of measures, or the law of proportional distribution with its derivatives can be defined as law of projecting and organizing sustainable systems at all levels of hierarchical management. The structure of the system is the most conservative characteristic of it as opposed to the state of the system. The properties of the system as a whole are determined not only the properties of its individual elements, but also the properties of the structure of the system as whole. They depend on the existence of the system. The existence of the system retains these parameters in the process of adapting the system to external conditions and thus maintains the existence of the system itself. Matching the metric quality system of economic security of the state and obtaining a conclusion on its stability and abilities to self-organization under the conditions of shadowing of the economy can be carried out by comparison. It is carried out using attractors representing a recurrent number of gold sections: 0.500 ...; 0.618 ...; 0.682 ...; 0.725, as well as – distractors: 0.5698 ...; 0.6540 ...; 0.7053. An integral indicator characterizing the state of any system is the relative information entropy by Shannon. Entropy testing of the system (calculation of relative information entropy) is a logical component of the innovative model of system research.

Abstract:
The decision tree is one of the new methods used for the determination of landslide susceptibility in the study area. The Phidim area is selected for the application of this method. The total surface area is 168.07 sq. km, and is located at the eastern part of Nepal. There are total of 10 different data bases used for this study which are; geological formation, elevation, slope, curvature, aspect, stream power index, topographic wetness index, distance from drainage, lineaments, and slope length, and are considered as landslide conditioning factors. Geographical information system (GIS) is used as basic tools and ARC/View is used for the processing data analysis and final map preparation. For the decision tree analysis the PASW 18 (statistical tool) is used to generate values of each factor. According to the results of decision tree, two geological formations; stream power index and slope are found as the most effective parameters on the landslide occurrence in the study area. Using the predicted values, the landslide susceptibility map of the study area is produced. To assess the performance of the produced susceptibility map, the area under curve (AUC) is drawn. The AUC value of the produced landslide susceptibility map has been obtained as 95.9%. According to the results of the AUC evaluation, the produced map has showed a good performance. As to wrap up, the produced map is able to be used for medium scaled and regional planning purposes. Abstract:
The small volcanic island of Ascension is situated in the middle of the South Atlantic Ocean, more than 1500 km from the coast of Africa, its nearest continental area. To date, eight ‘opisthobranch’ species were reported from the island. As a result of a recent survey, 10 species were found. Seven species are new records from Ascension: Platydoris angustipes (Mörch, 1863), Diaulula sp., Dolabrifera dolabrifera (Rang, 1828), Aplysia parvula Guilding in Mörch, 1863 and Caliphylla mediterranea A. Costa, 1867, and two new species: Phidiana mimica sp. nov.; and Felimida atlantica sp. nov. Half of the species found have a wide geographical distribution, being not restricted to the Atlantic Ocean. However, traditional taxonomy based on few characters is probably masking complexes of species.

Abstract:
Teachers' satisfaction is a significant concern of the overall education system of a country. This study examines the factors influencing job satisfaction of community school teachers' of Phidim Municipality. More specifically, this paper aims to investigate whether the sex of the teacher, income, nature of the job, age, birthplace, religion and educational status affect teachers' job satisfaction or not. This study is a cross sectional survey where sample size is determined by using Slovin's formula and the data were drawn from a self-administered questionnaire from randomly selected community school teachers. The percentages, Chi-Square test, and binomial logistic regression model were used for univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analysis using SPSS. The yearly income, age of teachers, and nature of job were found significantly associated with teachers' satisfaction under bivariate analysis whereas the binomial logistic regression justified the association of teachers' satisfaction to income of teachers and nature of their job only. The association of teacher's satisfaction to the sex of respondent, religion, educational status, and birthplace were found not significant using both bivariate and multivariate analysis. It is the conclusion that the permanency of job and reasonable salary must be managed mainly to make teacher's satisfied. In the present Nepalese context, the adjustment of teacher's salary as per the changing cost of living figure is necessary for teacher's job satisfaction. Likewise, the formulation of the teacher service commission as constitutional body, and regular operation of examination for teacher's permanent recruitment can enhance teacher's job satisfaction.

Abstract:
The coast of northern Chile has been sparsely studied in regards to its invertebrate fauna, with just a few works reviewing the distribution of local mollusks. This work presents a survey of the shallow water heterobranch sea slugs currently occurring around the port of Caldera (27 °S), in the Región de Atacama, northern Chile. Eight species of sea slugs were found in this study:Aplysiopsiscf.brattstroemi(Marcus, 1959),Baptodoris peruviana(d’Orbigny, 1837),Diaulula variolata(d’Orbigny, 1837),Doris fontainiid’Orbigny, 1837,Onchidella marginata(Couthouy in Gould, 1852),Phidiana lottini(Lesson, 1831),Tyrinna delicata(Abraham, 1877) and the new speciesBerthella schroedlisp. nov., described herein. All of the species found in the area are endemic to South America, having distributions in the southeastern Pacific and South Atlantic Oceans, from Ancash, Perú to Peninsula Valdés, Argentina, and two of them represent species which are endemic to the Chilean coasts (Aplysiopsiscf.brattstroemiandBerthella schroedli). The finding of a previously undescribed species emphasizes the need of further surveys, particularly in subtidal and deeper waters, in order to improve the knowledge on this neglected fauna in Atacama.

Abstract:
One of the elements of sustainable hydropower development is the release of the environmental flows (Eflows). This Eflows is meant to ensure that prior use(r)s of the river water are respected and that essential riverine ecosystem functions are maintained. This paper presents the results of an e-flows assessment, using the hydrological index method, of Hewa Khola A and Lower Hewa Khola Hydropower Projects, in Phidim, Nepal. These projects are being developed in the tributaries of Tamor River in Eastern part of Nepal. The e-flows assessment results are compared with the current releases made from the projects in operation. Current operations are prone to lead to severe degradation and social conflict. Based on an evaluation of the effects of a higher Eflows release on the power production, the paper concludes with recommendations for appropriate Eflow releases, and thus for socially and environmentally sustainable operations of the hydropower projects. Abstract:
Geologically southern part of New Guinea Island is the oldest part of the mainland and have most speciose of freshwater fish. Asmat is one area in Southern New Guinea where has some large river systems such as Siret and Vriendschap Rivers. There is not much information on freshwater fish diversity of the area. This study aim to know freshwater fish species of both river systems, in order to manage the area as conservation area by local government. Active fish collection method was applied to sample fish of Siret and Vriendschap River Systems. One seine net, 3.6 m length, 1.23 m in height, and with a mesh size of less than 0.5 cm, and traditional scoop net were used to collect fish. The Siret and Vriendschap freshwater fish fauna consist of 22 species in 18 genera and 15 families. Cochlefelis danielsi (Ariidae), Mogurnda cingulata (Eleotridae), Zenarchopterus novaeguineae (Hemiram-phidae), Melanotaenia ogilbyi (Melanotaenidae), Synaptura villosa (Soleidae) are endemic to Southern New Guinea. Spesifically, Mogurnda cingulata (Banded Gudgeon) and Melanotaenia ogilbyi (Ogilbyi’s Rainbowfish) have restricted distribution in Southern New Guinea. Further research in smaller stream and its tributaries might increase freshwater fish diversity of Asmat.Key words: Southern New Guinea, Asmat, freshwater fish

Abstract:
Mode of development was determined for 130 of the nearly 250 species of shallow-water, benthic opisthobranchs known from the northeast Pacific Ocean. Excluding four introduced or cryptogenic species, 91% of the species have planktotrophic development, 5% have lecithotrophic development, and 5% have direct development. Of the 12 native species with non-feeding (i.e., lecithotrophic or direct) modes of development, 5 occur largely or entirely south of Point Conception, California, where surface waters are warmer, lower in nutrients, and less productive than those to the north; 4 are known from habitats, mainly estuaries, that are small and sparsely distributed along the Pacific coast of North America; and 1 is Arctic and circumboreal in distribution. The nudibranchs Doto amyra Marcus, 1961 and Phidiana hiltoni (O'Donoghue, 1927) were the only species with non-feeding development that were widespread along the outer coast. This pattern of distribution of developmental mode is consistent with the prediction that planktotrophy should be maintained at high prevalence in regions safe for larval feeding and growth and should tend to be selected against where the risks of larval mortality (from low- or poor-quality food, predation, and transport away from favorable adult habitat) are higher. However, direct development, which includes the most derived mode of non-feeding development, was also correlated with small adult size, reflecting an association common in marine invertebrates. Planktotrophic development also predominates in decapod Crustacea from the northeast Pacific, but is less common in echinoderms and prosobranch gastropods from this region owing to the presence of lineages constrained by phylogeny to non-feeding modes of development.

Abstract:
Gender-Based Violence is an issue of high global concern and has serious implications for every aspect of women’s lives. The aim of the study was twofold, to increase awareness and knowledge of community members on the contexts in which GBV occurs through the narrative based methodology. It also sought to generate community actions and stem the tide of gender-based violence in Akai Effa and Idundu, Cross River State. The work used a creative narrative based research methodology to explore the contexts in which GBV and inequalities occur. The study had several phases including advocacy visits, production of films, film tours, and the formation of neighbourhood committees. The film “Women of our Land” was a collage of various scenes from different authors produced by DreamBoat Theatre for Development Foundation including; Tess Onwume’s ‘The Broken Calabash’ and ‘The Reign of Wazobia’, Edisua Yta’s ‘Because I am a woman’ and ‘Wives, mothers and daughters’ TV, and radio serials, Liwhu Betiang's ‘The First Stone’, Data Phido’s ‘Rainbow City’ and Chris Nwamuo’s ‘The Substitute’. The film (an enter-educate strategy) was used as a starting point for dialogues in the communities. About three hundred community members were involved in Akai Effa and Idundu and the project ran for six months. Findings identified the following factors as manifestations of gender-based violence in the communities: Domestic violence especially wife battery, sexual abuse, harassment and rape of young girls, restriction placed on women's economic activities, loss of land, assets, and properties, forceful ejections, and young girls denied opportunities to go to school. It is recommended that an extension of project time is essential to allow for adequate behaviour change and stamp out GBV in our communities.

Abstract:
The article presents the analysis of O. Rodin's creativity in the context of literary-centric fine art of romanticism. The author considers the difference between Rodin's method and the approaches of the «school of plot», «school of Salon» (the latter are clearly illustrated by Baudelaire's critical remarks), as well as the difference between the creative method of the artist and the writer as a whole. With the obvious close connection of painting, sculpture, literature and music, Rodin raised the question of the convergence of the plastic idea with the literature that inspired him, without copying the literary plot, while assigning only the role of the impulse for imagination to literary image, like the works of Phidias, Michelangelo, Houdon. The article deals with the creative parallels of the art of O. Rodin with the literary works of Dante, S. Baudelaire, R. M. Rilke, demonstrates the sculptor's appeal through them to the problems of modernity, the issues of human destiny.

Abstract:
Background: Selecting the optimal combination of HIV drugs for an individual in resourcelimited settings is challenging because of the limited availability of drugs and genotyping. Objective: The evaluation as a potential treatment support tool of computational models that predict response to therapy without a genotype, using cases from the Phidisa cohort in South Africa. Methods: Cases from Phidisa of treatment change following failure were identified that had the following data available: baseline CD4 count and viral load, details of failing and previous antiretroviral drugs, drugs in new regimen and time to follow-up. The HIV Resistance Response Database Initiative’s (RDI’s) models used these data to predict the probability of a viral load < 50 copies/mL at follow-up. The models were also used to identify effective alternative combinations of three locally available drugs. Results: The models achieved accuracy (area under the receiver–operator characteristic curve) of 0.72 when predicting response to therapy, which is less accurate than for an independent global test set (0.80) but at least comparable to that of genotyping with rules-based interpretation. The models were able to identify alternative locally available three-drug regimens that were predicted to be effective in 69% of all cases and 62% of those whose new treatment failed in the clinic. Conclusion: The predictive accuracy of the models for these South African patients together with the results of previous studies suggest that the RDI’s models have the potential to optimise treatment selection and reduce virological failure in different patient populations, without the use of a genotype. Keywords: HIV therapy; mathematical modelling; treatment; genotype

Abstract:
Southern range extensions of the tropical Australian heterobranch sea slug fauna may be symptomatic of climate change, particularly in south-eastern Australia, a recognized climate change hot-spot. In the Solitary Islands Marine Park, northern New South Wales, the presence of biogeographic mixing means that the southern coastal distribution limit of several tropical marine species and the northern limit of some temperate species overlap. During a year-long series of monthly surveys of sea slug communities on intertidal rocky shores, we observed four species beyond their previously recorded range –Colpodaspis thompsoni, Elysia pusilla, Phidiana bourailliandHerviella claror. The southern migration of species is an anticipated response to warming seas and we note an apparent extension of the southern limit for these taxa.
