Scientific journals have evolved into one of the most vital means for disseminating research findings and communicating new knowledge which is critical for the progress of science. But more than this, journals are also important in the development of public health. And when we talk about public health in the Philippines, the role and relevance of the Philippine Journal of Cardiology (PJC) as the scientific publication arm of the Philippine Heart Association is truly crucial with cardiovascular diseases continuing to be the top cause of mortality.

Abstract:
Greetings!
Research develops several virtues: inquisitiveness, attention to detail, patience, critical thinking and a passion for knowledge. Research should also be relevant and timely. During the past few months, much more than at any period in our lifetime, there has been an explosion of studies, reviews, editorials, and other manuscripts released online or published in peer reviewed journals. Some have been released to the media prior to the actual publication of the complete research. The COVID-19 pandemic has spurred bogus, pseudo and ground-breaking research. But more than anything

“Research, no matter how ‘good’, is incomplete, until it has been published.”1

In my opinion, otolaryngology residents, fellows and consultants do not lack in research or scholarly capability. However, “the proof of the pudding is (indeed) in the eating,” and scholarly societies are recognized not so much for what goes on within their hallowed halls, but for what are made public outside those walls. Indeed, “publishing” means to make something public.2 And though we may not lack in research, we certainly still lag in publication.

I would therefore not be amiss

Today, to publish an academic paper requires experience not only in ‘doing’ the research itself but understanding how it is made available online or in print. This study, an excerpt, has profiled websites and journal articles indexed from the Directory of Open Access Journals during mid-2020 in the field of Science Education, with the end in mind of proposing a publication management model for beginning ‘authors’. Using an exploratory mixed method design, this excerpt of the study extracted 185 corpus websites and 103 corpus journal articles from more than 5 million article records of DOAJ. Fi
