Abstract:
We call philosophers seekers or lovers of wisdom. Each philosopher has his or her own personal ways of seeking the truth-truth, that is, the ways of understanding and their beliefs. Such ways and beliefs may be similar to the same beliefs or understandings and statements of others. Then we call it a school of philosophy or direction.

This article refers to St. Justin, who was one of the Church Fathers, one of the first Christian philosophers and Greek apologists and also a martyr for the Christian faith when this was spreading throughout the Roman Empire. In the preface, it is shown that a hostile attitude existed at the time of both the Roman Empire and the Jews towards Christianity at its very beginning. Christians were being stultified and sentenced to death. Each part of the article shows Justin in a different cultural role. First, we can see the beginnings of his life. Justin lived in the second century after Christ.

Leo Strauss's writings reveal a subtle but consistent set of accusations against the influence of Christian thinkers on political philosophy. These accusations may be summarized in three charges. First, the attempt by Aquinas and other Christian scholastics to synthesize faith and reason led later philosophers to eschew prudence in favor of a humane project to employ science to transform political life. The result was the destruction of the modus vivendi, safeguarded by classical political philosophy, between pious citizens and diffident but inwardly free philosophers. Second, the rationalizat

My thesis is an examination of Abelard's construction of himself as a Christian philosopher. A critical part of this question is how Abelard finds in the Patristic theologian Origen a model for his idea of a Christian philosopher. In the Introduction I provide a summary and analysis of previous scholarship on two questions. Firstly, I give a survey of how Origen functions as a model for Abelard's identity. Secondly, I consider the relationships between monastery and cathedral on the subject of philosophy. Chapter 1 provides an overview of the etymology of philosophus in Abelardian thought. I p

Abstract:
AbstractIn times of great distress, like in the case of the COVID-19 pandemic, people look for relief from the existential threat by searching for some kind of interpretation of the crisis. Some people will look for scapegoats to put the blame on, while others will search for ways by which the crisis can also be perceived as something beneficial. As far as the COVID-19 pandemic goes, earlier this year, media and politicians pointed towards China, where the pandemic started, or to Italy, from where the virus spread over the European continent.Since the beginning of the crisis, we have also been flooded with gurus, motivational speakers, and mindfulness coaches who stimulate us to view the new common as an unexpected but much needed “reboot” of our day-to-day life.Intriguingly enough, these two individual and collective coping strategies are very familiar to those who are acquainted with the Christian philosophical and theological traditions. When confronted with the apparent paradox between the idea of an omnipotent and omnibenevolent deity on the one hand and the experience of everyday pain and suffering on the other hand, Christians have sought for ways to find a satisfactory solution. This is known as theodicy. As the Roman and Christian philosopher Boethius summarized the problem: si Deus, unde malum? “If God exists, wherefrom evil?”

Abstract:
In this foundational essay for recent Christian philosophy, Alvin Plantinga offers “advice” specifically to Christian philosophers and, by extension, to any religious philosophers who wish to find a way to integrate their faith with their philosophical practice. After considering philosophical challenges to Verificationism, Plantinga moves on to consider core issues in the epistemology of religious belief and philosophical anthropology. Plantinga defends the idea that Christians can legitimately start with their religious beliefs, rather than being required to begin with supposedly neutral or objective claims upon which their religious belief must be shown to depend. Drawing deeply on the theological framework of John Calvin, Plantinga concludes that Christian philosophers should display more autonomy, more integrity, and Christian courage in their philosophical work.

Philo of Alexandria (ca. 20 B.C.E. -50 C.E.), or Philo Judaeus as he is also called, was a Jewish scholar, philosopher, politician, and author who lived in Alexandria and who has had a tremendous influence through his works (mostly on the Christian exegesis and theology). Today hardly any scholar of Second Temple Judaism, early Christianity, or Hellenistic philosophy sees any great imperative in arguing for his relevance. After the research (contribution) of V.
