Abstract:
The philosophy of modern education is a section of philosophy that deals with issues of education research, its role in the life of society, putting forward various pedagogical theories for the democratization and improvement of the educational process. As part of our research, we analyzed the content of the philosophy of education, its essence and direction. They characterized the vision of the philosophy of education in the works of its founder John Dewey and traced the relationship between the currents presented by the philosopher (practical learning, interdisciplinary approach, democratic classroom, reflective thinking, community involvement) on the potential results of the development of society (development of practical skills, development of cognitive skills, development public competence and compliance with public duties, development and improvement of metacognition, social interaction and culture). The study of Paulo Freire’s pedagogical theory of social justice, which developed under the influence of John Dewey’s current, also became valuable in the process of analyzing the problems of the philosophy of modern education. Central to Paulo Freire’s social philosophy was the understanding that in repressive dynamics the humanity of both the oppressor and the oppressed decreases. In turn, Freire’s philosophical concept rested on three main pillars: education as a tool for humanizing the individual through conscious actions aimed at transforming the world order; dialogue - as a pedagogical means of progressive learning; the “see, analyze and act” complex, which serves as the core of the philosopher’s methodology and consists in assessing the situation, its analysis, identifying the root causes of the occurrence of negative factors and active actions aimed at eliminating such factors while strictly observing the principle of social justice. It was determined that the philosophy of education should be understood as a field of philosophy that considers the development of education and society in their unity, offers pedagogical theories of educational activities, considers education as a lever for democratic changes and modifications. In turn, we see the concept of modern education in the presence of the following vector elements: humanistic education, digital education, hybrid education (mixed forms of education), inclusive education, individualized education, continuous education.

Abstract:
The ideological function of philosophy is to determine the value orientations, the life orientation of each person, his understanding of the essence of phenomena and the formation of a sense of belonging to events in society. The onto-epistemological and anthropological orientation of philosophy contributes to the formation of the methodological culture of the future specialist. Therefore, philosophy as one of the compulsory subjects of study is included in the curriculum of higher education, because the main function of philosophy is aimed at the formation of a worldview position and critical thinking in every citizen. Therefore, the main goal of teaching philosophy is aimed at the development of an elite culture through an elite education. In understanding the objective reality, philosophical knowledge is based on the ratio of rational and irrational and forms critical thinking.

Abstract:
The development of literature on entrepreneurship has continued for several decades. Starting from the mainstream of innovation, strategic changes, until intersecting with strategic management. Several studies have discussed the relationship between entrepreneurship and strategic management so that companies can improve their entrepreneurial orientation. But, there is still no research that specifically discusses how entrepreneurship combines with the philosophy of strategic management to create a better entrepreneurial strategic orientation. The research here aims to create a specific conceptual relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and the philosophies of strategic management. The qualitative method through literature study was carried out on this research with purposive and snowball sampling techniques to build several propositions to become a model of entrepreneurial strategic philosophy. As a result of the conceptual review here, it is known that there is a conceptual relationship between the entrepreneurial orientation and the philosophy of the strategic management. The formation of art, bottom-up, and flexibility approach will be the most compatible strategic philosophy if the organization aims to increase entrepreneurial orientation rather than bureaucracy orientation. Otherwise, the combination of science, top-down, and consistency approach will be the most compatible strategic philosophy if the organization aims to emphasize bureaucracy orientation rather than entrepreneurial orientation.

Abstract:
The study investigates the impact of internal marketing philosophy on implementing strategic goals to leverage an innovative internal marketing concept for business growth. In the context of firms’ strategic orientation, the organization’s development, market position, and practices used to promote the desired organizational behavior are being examined. The paper focuses on large companies in Greece, which belong to the retail, manufacturing, and healthcare sectors. Moreover, these companies have been certified by “Great place to work.” A qualitative method via Nvivo software was used. Data were collected from 10 semi-structured interviews. Participants are executives with significant working experience and different managerial positions. The findings document the impact of the internal marketing concept on company development through policies concerning strengthening the organization’s presence and recruiting qualified employees. Moreover, the influence of the internal marketing concept on an organization’s market position with regard to a positive working environment and management style is highlighted. Finally, team environment emerges as a dominant trait in the organizational context, while values such as honesty, integrity, and reliability appear as critical features of the desired behavior. The study provides an updated managerial perspective by establishing a link between the theory of internal marketing and business process mapping. The results enable executives to focus on elements that better serve the implementation of strategic goals. Abstract:
Abstract The claim, renewed some years ago, of being able to advise on personal questions of life seems to bring philosophy into a fundamental conflict with its other claim of promoting human self-determination. However, the conflict only arises if philosophy does not sufficiently distinguish between the social orientation of self-determination towards universality and the subjective orientation of action execution. This is the case both in subjectivist mentalism and in the tradition of philosophy of language. The insufficient distinction prevents philosophy not only from being able to be helpful in the case of action but also from adequately explaining its object, the human orientation of validity. Plessner clarifies the basis of the practical distinction between social validity and subjective action orientation. Against this background we can better understand Socrates’ and Wittgenstein’s views on how philosophy must proceed in discourse if it is to provide assistance in personal questions without paternalism.

The existential philosopher Soren Kierkegaard is one of the most prominent philosophers in the field of philosophy in general and the philosophy of religion in particular. Because of his own religious experience, and there are several influences that shaped his religious experience, including his influence on his father, who lived throughout his life reprimanding his conscience because of his blasphemy against the Creator, which had an impact on the personality of our philosopher. Kierkegaard described faith as the relationship between man and his Creator without submitting to the teachings of clerics the church. And his view of the church did not see anything but lies, falsehood and insignificance. And the materialistic tendency, and turning the worship of God into a mockery of Him. And his orientation was towards God, towards the Infinite in Himself... It is an orientation whose steps disturbed the words of the Church and the Christian theory at the time.

Abstract:
Market orientation and innovation orientation, including their relationship with firm performance, are well-debated in prevailing marketing literature. Interestingly, relationship orientation, as an extension of market orientation, is yet to be subjected to similar investigation. While relationship orientation suggests that firms should invest in building relationships with clients and suppliers to generate improved financial performance, innovation orientation proposes that customers will prefer superior and innovative products/services and it supports a learning philosophy. Torn between two shores, the result is often that practitioners are confused as to what the desired orientation for the firm should be. This paper considers the relationship of both orientations with firm performance in business-to-business (B2B) markets simultaneously, and in particular examines the mediating effect of innovation on the relationship orientation-firm performance relationship. By employing published scales for innovation and relationship orientation, cross-sectional data were collected from 181 business-to-business managers in South African firms. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to test for scale reliability and validity, while the hypothesized relationships between constructs were considered through structural equation modelling and partial least squares analysis. The paper provides valuable insights for measuring these constructs in an emerging market context and suggests a balanced approach to adopting these strategic orientations in B2B markets. The results suggest that practitioners and researchers should pay attention to both orientations simultaneously, because jointly they are associated with better firm performance.

Abstract:
Through the concept of orientation, this essay attempts to establish a philosophical account of the structure of our daily lives. By examining Kants notion of orientation and Heideggers response to Kant, I highlight the importance of the fact that orientation comes from the world, not simply from our ability to determine our position in the world by means of a coordinate system. Consequently, I argue, the concrete instantiation of a life given in a narrative can supplement the structure that the theoretical framework of justice, which establishes the principles guiding the institutions of our society, claims to leave undetermined. This texture fills the space of justice and culture with tangible things and practices that make up our daily life. The novel America America is used as a diagnostic tool to illuminate the forces and opportunities found in our culture that need to be either recognized and avoided, or discovered, revealed, and spoken for. I suggest that instrumental reason and the attainment of mere pleasure, as a cultural forces guiding our practices, fail to provide a tenable answer to the question of the good life and that they should be avoided when we are considering the ultimate how and what of the practices that make up the structure of our lives. In response to the failure of instrumental reason, I propose a deepening of our practices by way of familiarity (through closeness) and accomplishment (through engagement) with the things that are integral to practices such as making maple syrup and preparing a meal.

Abstract:
Terrorism and its causes have been widely discussed in academic literature, and especially the issue of Islamic terrorism has gained broad popular, academic and political interest. However, theories of terrorism do not seem to engage with the orientated aspect of terrorism and how terrorism can be ideologically orientated. The dominant understanding of terrorism in scholarly works argues that terrorism cannot be created by the state; rather it can be manipulated or triggered by it. Especially in the wake of the Arab Spring those theories do not engage in studying the interplay of state strategy and ideology in the making of the phenomenon while at the same time relegating the effect of humiliation and colonialist heritage and the industrialization of the body terrorist. This paper brings a new theoretical understanding about the causes of terrorism in the Middle Eastern context in the wake of the Arab Spring. This understanding draws from the theory of ideology by Louis Althusser, and the concept of orientation by Sara Ahmed in order to reach a better diagnosis of the phenomenon. Examining journalistic works written about terrorism in this context, this thesis identifies the processes of ideological orientation to produce terrorism.

Abstract:
This study uses sociology of time theories to determine the inner-structure of a social movement: the vest German Green Party. The data used in this study were obtained from a content analysis of articles found in the New York Times and the Washington Post from 1982 through 1985. Patterns of political/temporal perspectives, described by Mannheim, were explored. In this study, it is determined that a pattern of political/temporal perspectives exists in the Green Party. A close look at these political/temporal perspectives revealed that over time some change occurred in the pattern. Thus, some support for Michels' Iron Law of Oligarchy which predicts change in a social rnove..rnent's orientations once that movement gains a political office was found.<br>M.S.

Abstract:
This study explored the relationship between psychotherapists' personality and choice of theoretical orientation. A total of 493 participants (274 practitioners and 219 students) completed a web-based survey. Personality was assessed using the HEXACO Personality Inventory (HEXACO-PI; Lee & Ashton, 2004) while theoretical orientation preference was assessed using a modified version of the Theoretical Orientation Profile Scale-Revised (TOPS-R; Worthington & Dillon, 2003). In the practitioner sample, the Humanistic/Existential scale was found to be significantly correlated with the Openness Unconventionality scale (r = .34). Results further revealed that practitioners' theoretical orientation preference differed based on the Conscientiousness and Openness personality dimensions. In the student sample, the cognitive-behavioural orientation was significantly correlated with Conscientiousness ( r = .37) and the Conscientiousness Prudence facet scale (r =.36). The humanistic/existential scale was significantly related to Openness ( r = .34) and the Openness Creativity subscale (r = .35). Results further indicated that students' theoretical orientation preferences were different based on the Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, and Openness personality dimensions. Lastly, results showed that students' theoretical orientation preferences were significantly related to their supervisors'. Implications for future research, training, and practice are discussed.

Abstract:
"Sexual orientation" is increasingly used as a prohibited ground for discrimination. The aim of this thesis is to show that this notion is being challenged both at the theoretical and implementation level. As a ground, "sexual orientation" ought to be replaced by "sex", as meaning the social construction of biological sex, in other words, "gender".<br>First, this thesis exposes the history of "sexual orientation", and then the problems faced by Canadian and international courts when trying to implement it. "Sexual orientation" is then analysed within the broader perspective of the traditional liberal discourse on minorities. That perspective shows that LGBT communities are submitted to criteria established by the majority, therefore regulating their existence.<br>Finally, the thesis draws on the analysis of scholars who think that those criteria are, in fact, part of a broader discourse aiming at perpetuating the domination of "male" over "female" and that discrimination of LGBT communities is in fact motivated by "gender".

Full text
Abstract:
This mini-thesis is a supporting document to the exhibition titled via: a phenomenological site-specific series of intermedia interventions and installations at the 1820 Settlers National Monument in Grahamstown. This mini-thesis examines ways in which one negotiates the movement of the self and interactions with others within the non-place. Non-places are ‘habitually transient’ spaces for passage, communication and consumption, often viewed from highways, vehicles, hotels, petrol stations, airports and supermarkets. Characteristic of these generic and somewhat homogenous spaces is the paradox of material excess and concurrent psychological lack where a feeling of disorientation and disconnection is established due to the excesses of Supermodernity: excess of the individual, time and space. The non-place is a contested space as it does not hold enough significance to be regarded as a place and yet, despite its banality, is necessary – and in many ways a privilege – in everyday living. I explore the concept of non-places in relation to the intricate notions of space and place, and draw on empirical research as a means to interrogate how one perceives the phenomenological qualities of one’s surroundings. I discuss the implications of the multiplication of the non-place in relation to globalisation, time–space compression, site-specific art and absentmindedness, as theoretical themes which underpin the practical component of my research. In addition, I situate my artistic practice in relation to other contemporary artists dealing with the non-place as a theme, and critically engage with the multi-disciplinary and sensory installations and video pieces of Belgian artist Hans Op de Beeck.

Potts, Garrett W. "From Meaningful Work to Good Work: Reexamining the Moral Foundation of the Calling Orientation." Scholar Commons, 2019. https://scholarcommons.usf.edu/etd/7891.

Full text
Abstract:
The calling orientation to work represents the seed that has germinated into the exponentially growing ‘work as a calling’ literature. It was first articulated by Robert Bellah, Richard Madsen, William Sullivan, Ann Swidler, and Steven Tipton within Habits of the Heart in the 1980s. The following critical analysis of the ‘work as a calling’ literature, and of the moral foundation of the calling orientation more specifically, is intended for two particular audiences. The first audience broadly includes an interdisciplinary group of scholars working within business ethics, management, organizational psychology, and vocational psychology, among other fields of study. Amidst these scholars’ exponentially increasing interest in the idea of ‘work as a calling,’ the anatomical structure of their research remains remarkably similar. Their notions of ‘work as a calling’ stress that work should provide individuals with a deep sense of personal fulfillment. In particular, they suggest that work should be a therapeutic source of individual meaning. To secure this meaning, they exhibit an apparent centeredness on the self and an emphasis on the unconstrained pursuit of personal preferences. In most cases, scholars within the ‘work as a calling’ literature tend to proffer notions of ‘meaningful work’ that are divorced from moral considerations about ‘good work.’ While this broad group of scholars copiously references the calling orientation within their research on ‘work as a calling,’ a deep-seated misunderstanding pervades the literature to the extent that notions of ‘meaningful work’ have been divorced from notions of ‘good work.’ To this broader audience, I demonstrate herein that they do not realize how antithetical their scholarly literature on ‘work as a calling’ is to the moral foundation of Bellah et al.’s calling orientation. Namely, I argue that the construal of calling as an orientation to work would not exist within the literature if Bellah et al. had not first articulated the calling orientation as a buffer against the unregulated pursuit of personal preferences. Therefore, I claim that this broader group of scholars either needs to abandon the notion of ‘work as a calling’ or engage with the appropriate virtue framework that undergirds the calling orientation. I suspect, however, that several of these scholars will be hesitant to take up the virtue framework that is inextricably linked to the calling orientation. For this reason, much of the work following chapter 2 is devoted to a narrower audience of MacIntyrean business ethicists. It is also dedicated to a few scholars from the broader ‘work as a calling’ group whom I trust will not wish to remain accidental contributors to the language of individualism that pervades the literature once I have unmasked it. Perhaps, in time, they will even become MacIntyrean business ethicists. Indeed, the appropriate moral framework that undergirds the ‘work as a calling’ literature is actively being worked out by a narrower group of MacIntyrean business ethicists, all of whom represent my primary audience for the research herein. To the MacIntyrean community, I hope not only to provide a complete list of tendencies within the ‘work as a calling’ literature that must be resisted, but also a picture of all of the ways that Bellah et al.’s calling orientation is wholly bound up with MacIntyre’s moral philosophy – particularly his theory of the virtues and the common goods that the virtues sustain. Bellah et al.’s calling orientation rests upon a vision of ‘good work,’ and this vision of ‘good work’ hinges on a MacIntyrean account of the virtues that is directed toward the achievement of three distinct types of common goods: (a) the good and worthy ends of workplace practices, (b) the goods of an individual life, and (c) the goods of communities – or, more broadly, the interests of a good society. Furthermore, it will be shown to the MacIntyrean community that visions of ‘good work,’ which are sustained by the calling orientation, are accompanied by a nuanced vision of pluralistic collaboration that MacIntyre and Bellah et al. share. (I anticipate that this will be surprising to many readers who are familiar with the typical and misleading characterization of MacIntyre as a sectarian). Bellah et al. as well as MacIntyre’s vision of pluralism matters for research on the calling orientation because these figures demonstrate that individuals within the late modern workplace are informed by a plurality of religious and humanistic traditions, all of which account for ultimate meaning and goodness in different ways that ought to be recognized. Distinctive religious and humanistic visions of ultimate meaning indeed impact the perceived goodness of one’s calling. Hence, we must attend to the polysemic and multivocal nature of accounting for the goodness of any one particular calling (i.e., a Buddhist doctor within the Western medical tradition is likely to articulate the goodness of his calling differently than a Jewish doctor working within the Western medical tradition). Still, however, Bellah et al. and MacIntyre’s account entails a hopefulness in the possibility of pluralistic, (or, what I shall call inter-traditional) striving for the achievement of common goods that are practical enough to agree upon.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper presents a geometric algorithm for the computation of the constant-orientation workspace of 6-RUS parallel manipulators. While the basic philosophy of this algorithm is not new, the proposed computational process involving surface intersections is original and is the major contribution of the paper. Particularly, an analytic description of the points that constitute the edges of the constant-orientation workspace is presented. The latter is done through a new algorithm for the computation of the intersection points between a general torus and a circle.

Abstract:
The article defines the meaning of the phenomenological approach to the analysis of the concept of intersubjectivity in the context of social and philosophical problems of the balance of the Self and the Other. The discourse is based on the correlation of phenomenological orientation and communicative action in determining the mechanisms of identity of the Self in relation to the Other in the inseparability of social reality. A sequential analysis of prerequisites and research approaches aimed at testing the problem of intersubjectivity is carried out. The focus is placed on social phenomenological research of A. Schutz and the theory of communicative action of J. Habermas, which are aimed at understanding the correlation between the peculiarities of human existence, his life-world and the area of social relations or the inevitability of establishing overindividual patterns. Relevance of the research lies in elaborating the issue of establishing intersubjectivity under the fundamental non-identity of the subjects of communication and their predetermined attitudes. The article concludes by outlining the feasibility of expanding the rational predetermination of the subject-subjective structure of communicative action with the research area of social phenomenology.

Abstract:
Science and art are generally seen as two different fields, although they have common points, they support and complement each other. Mathematics is accepted as a science, one in which notions and the connections between notions are defined and demonstrated with great precision. The notion of Number is usually associated with that of quantity, illustrating our overwhelming orientation towards measuring and inventorying the concrete. However, throughout history, the ideas related to the Number have also meant something else, the Number being a concept that, regardless of the cultural area and the time period to which we refer, has always been associated with philosophy and magic. The construction of the Egyptian pyramids was based on the so-called polygonal numbers, of which we have presented in this article the quadratic numbers, the pentagonal numbers, the hexagonal numbers, the heptagonal numbers, the octagonal numbers, the nonagonal numbers, respectively the decagonal numbers.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract The design philosophy of leading interventional devices and software typically employs point- or line-like fiducial markers that are detected via multiple external optical cameras and/or the primary medical imaging system employed in the procedure (MRI, CT, fluoroscopy, etc.). Fiducial markers with characteristic geometric signals encoded into their physical design can provide more robust information on device location and orientation than point or line signals at lower imaging resolutions while leveraging the volumetric imaging capabilities of MRI and CT to circumvent the need for additional external camera hardware in the operating room. This work describes efforts to develop unique geometric fiducial designs and software methods to detect and determine their orientation based on volumetric MR-imaging. Using these methods, a single MR scan can be used to localize and orient specific medical devices autonomously, rather than relying on multimodal imaging or semi-manual detection methods. These results have been validated in a series of MRI scans using human cadaver heads and fruit-based phantoms, successfully detecting and isolating the device fiducial in 8/8 T2w MRI scans, and coregistering the signal to an orthonormal template with a Dice-based evaluation metric of 0.819. These methods have the potential to accelerate imageguided surgeries by improving automated detection and registration methods to reduce the number and/or duration of required scans while minimizing the amount of supplemental hardware (external optical cameras).
