Abstract:
Satellite images of the grassland area in Durango México were obtained of altitude, slope, average annual temperature, annual precipitation, type of vegetation, type of soil, normal vegetation index, percentage of herbaceous and percentage of bares soil, in order to relate them with grasshopper density population (GDP) surveyed in 35 sampling sites from June to November in 2003 in the study area. A stepwise regression analysis was performed with the most abundant grasshopper species Phoetaliotes nebrascensis (Thomas), Melanoplus lakinus (Scudder) and Boopedon nubilum (Say) with data extracted

Abstract:
Little is known about how grasshopper species abundances shift during and following severe outbreaks, as sampling efforts usually end when outbreaks subside. Grasshopper densities, species composition and vegetation have infrequently been sampled during and after a severe outbreak in the western U.S., which is needed to better understand the cause of outbreaks and population declines. In this study, grasshopper densities, species composition and vegetation were monitored at a northern mixed rangeland site from 1999 to 2003 where densities reached 130 per m2 during a severe outbreak.

Abstract:
AbstractTwo, 1400-ha blocks of rangeland in western South Dakota were treated aerially with malathion liquid spray or carbaryl – bran bait in early July 1986 to determine the immediate and 2nd-year impact of treatments on grasshopper populations. Total grasshopper populations were reduced by 92 and 47% in the malathion and carbaryl – bran bait treatment plots, respectively, within 48 h after treatment and remained at a low level throughout the summer. Populations did not change in the control plots. Populations of the two most abundant species, Ageneotettix deorum (Scudder) and Melanoplus sang
