Abstract:
Type-II semiconductor heterodimers with a staggered alignment of band edges at the heterointerface can promote spatial charge separation of the electron and hole in different parts of the heterodimer for photocatalytic and photovoltaic applications. In this paper, the two kinds of CdS-based type-II semiconductor heterodimers were successfully synthesized. Type-II CdS-CdTe heterodimers without any defects exhibited clear photo-induced electron transfer, whereas CdS-Cu31S16 heterodimers showed dominant consumption of photogenerated carries via vacancy-induced decay processes. Sunscreens ensure protection of the human skin against the harmful effects of the UV radiation in the UVB (290 – 320 nm) and UVA (320 – 400 nm) wavelength ranges. They commonly contain one or more organic UV absorbers that absorb light in the wavelength range of interest and/or inorganic particles, such as metal oxide semiconductors that absorb, scatter and reflect light. The efficiency of these formulations is measured by introducing the Sun Protection Factor (SPF). Currently, SPF is estimated from in vivo measurements, which is a time-consuming and expensive process. For a validated method,

N-phenyl substitution of trans-4-aminostilbene leads to a more planar ground-state geometry about the amino nitrogen atom, a larger charge-transfer character, a slower rate constant for photoisomerization, and thus a higher fluorescence quantum yield. To investigate the substituent effect on the photochemical behavior of trans-4-N-phenylaminostilbene, we have synthesized compound series 2-6, which have substituents on the N-phenylamino group, and compound series 7 and 8,

The aqueous photochemistry of 4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxybenzoic acid (syringic acid) has been studied as a model humic substance in order to better understand the reactions that compounds of this type undergo in the natural environment. Syringic acid was chosen since it has been identified as a component of humic substances in the environment and bears many of chemical moieties found in structures of this type. In addition, there has been speculation that humic substances are responsible for some of the production of halomethanes that are released into the environment. Photolysis of these comp
