Abstract:
The use of a framework is often essential for medium and large scale developments, but is also of interest for small developments. PHP has evolved as the scripting language the most chosen by developers, which has generated an explosion of PHP frameworks. There is a big debate about what the best PHP frameworks are, because the simple fact is that not all frameworks are built for everyone. Indeed, not all frameworks meet the same needs, and several frameworks can be used together in certain situations. Choosing the right framework, however, can sometimes be difficult. In order to make the selection process easier, we propose a pragmatic and complete model to compare and evaluate the main PHP frameworks. This model is based on a set of comparison criteria based on the Intrinsic durability, industrialized solution, technical adaptability, strategy, technical architecture, and Speed criteria. Results show that the values of these criteria allow developers to easily and properly choose the framwork that best meets their needs

Abstract:
There are many programming languages available for the developers to pick when they want to make a web services project such as Java JSP, Python, ASP.Net, PHP and many others. The reason that writer chose PHP as its research topic is that PHP is still being one of the most promising languages especially for developing web services. Several PHP Frameworks are now available on the internet promising that their framework can do better than others. Some popular PHP frameworks are Laravel, Symfony, CakePHP, Yii, and CodeIgniter. Performance is the most aspect to be concerned because of the market’s demands entailing them to do so. The next concern that developer would likely need to decide is whether to go with Pure PHP or to go with PHP Framework. To answer those concerns, this research has been conducted in which a module is taken from an academic information system and will be developed into three similar and equivalent web applications by using Laravel, CodeIgniter, and Pure PHP. The author's aim in conducting this research is to obtain more in-depth information regarding the use of the pure PHP programming language and several frameworks such as CodeIgniter and Laravel. There are many statements stating that using the PHP programming language is no longer feasible, even though in reality using PHP for developing web-based applications is still the choice of many programmers based on statistics from w3tech. The results of research conducted by the author show that the PHP programming language is still very reliable in handling load and stress tests. The pure PHP programming language provides slightly better performance results than the CodeIgniter and Laravel frameworks. Hence, the use of pure PHP or frameworks can be determined from the level of needs of the application development to be created.

Abstract:
The regular utilization of web-based applications is crucial in our everyday life. The Model View Controller (MVC) architecture serves as a structured programming design that developers utilize to create user interfaces. This pattern is commonly applied by application software developers to construct web-based applications. The use of a MVC framework of PHP Scripting language is often essential for application software development. There is a significant argument regarding the most suitable PHP MVC such as Codeigniter & Laravel and Phalcon frameworks since not all frameworks cater to everyone's needs. It's a fact that not all MVC frameworks are created equal and different frameworks can be combined for specific scenarios. Selecting the appropriate MVC framework can pose a challenge at times. In this context, our paper focuses on conducting a comparative analysis of different PHP frameworks. The widely used PHP MVC frameworks are picked to compare the performance on basic Operation of Relational databases and different type of Application software to calculate execution time. In this experiment a large (Big Data) dataset was used. The Mean values of insert operation in MySQL database of Codeigniter, Laravel, Phalcon were 149.64, 149.99, 145.48 and PostgreSQL database`s 48.259, 49.39, 45.87 respectively. The Mean values of Update operation in MySQL database of Codeigniter, Laravel, Phalcon were 149.64, 158.39, 207.82 and PostgreSQL database`s 48.24, 49.39, 46.64 respectively. The Mean values of Select operation in MySQL database of Codeigniter, Laravel, Phalcon were 1.60, 3.23, 0.98 and PostgreSQL database`s 1.95, 4.57, 2.36 respectively. The Mean values of Delete operation in MySQL database of Codeigniter, Laravel, Phalcon were 150.27, 156.99, 149.63 and PostgreSQL database`s 42.95, 48.25, 42.07 respectively. The findings from our experiment can be advantageous for web application developers to choose proper MVC frameworks with their integrated development environment (IDE). This result will be helpful for small, medium & large-scale organization in choosing the appropriate PHP Framework.

Abstract:
As web applications grow in complexity, the performance of PHP frameworks is critical for delivering efficient, scalable solutions. This research compares performance optimization techniques in two widely used PHP frameworks, Laravel and CodeIgniter. By benchmarking these frameworks, the study evaluates their effectiveness in terms of response time, throughput, and data processing. CodeIgniter demonstrates lower response times and throughput, making it suitable for lightweight applications. In contrast, Laravel, though slower, offers advanced features and optimization tools ideal for complex, scalable applications. This analysis provides valuable insights for selecting the appropriate framework based on project requirements.

Abstract:
Information transmission in the network is more and more accepted due to the fast and convenient of the network access. The MVC (Model-View-Controller) could be a very good solution to solve the problems as separating between user interface logic and business logic that developers found. We describe and explore ASP (Active Server Pages), PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) and robustness analysis method, and we implement MVC architecture in ASP.Net framework and PHP framework respectively. With the comparison between ASP.Net framework and PHP framework, in this study, our findings show that PHP framework is more difficult than ASP.Net framework to implement MVC architecture, and the ASP.Net framework is better than PHP framework under the same environment.

In this study, we compared two common template Engines - Blade and Twig, which are closely related, but have some very strong differences. Blade belongs to the Laravel CMF, which is built on top of the Symfony CMF. The Symfony CMF itself has its own template engine called Twig. As a result, we want to find answers of several important questions: what are the differences between Blade and Twig that made it desirable for the Laravel developers to come up with a new template engine besides Twig; how do Twig and Blade answer to developer needs and to make some objective suggestions that can help choosing between the two engines.

Abstract:
The objective of this study is to evaluate performance of four popular PHP frameworks Laravel, Symfony, CodeIgniter and Phalcon together with the plain PHP. The decision of making this study was based on the fact that there is a lack of comparison tests between the most popular PHP frameworks. Visiting the official websites of these frameworks, the first thing to notice is the slogans that have been made by the core teams. The majority of these slogans contain quality attributes like speed and high performance. As a developer looking for performance in your next project, choosing the right PHP framework by these slogans is not that easy. Therefor, the performance of these frameworks is put to the test. And to do that, three experiments are conducted in which five functionally equivalent PHP applications are developed and used as targets. One version of these applications represents the plain PHP and the other four represent the four mentioned frameworks. The experiments are conducted in two sessions. The first session deals with the execution time and the stack trace measurements while the second one is covering the measurement of the memory usage consumption. The result outcome of these experiments has been analyzed and interpreted in order to expose the performance of the targeted frameworks. The experiment results prove that the targeted frameworks perform differently compared with each other and the PHP stack. Plain PHP and Phalcon are performing well while the other three frameworks have both mediocre and low performance.

Abstract:
Context: Information technology is playing an important role in creating innovation in business. Due to increase in demand of information technology, web development has become an important field. PHP is an open source language, which is widely used in web development. PHP is used to develop dynamic web pages and it has the ability to connect with database. PHP has some good features i.e. cross platform compatibility, scalability, efficient execution and is an open source technology. These features make it a good choice for developers to choose PHP for web development. The maintenance of an application becomes difficult and performance being considerably reduced, if PHP is to be used without using its frameworks. To resolve these issues, different frameworks have been introduced by web development communities on the internet. These frameworks are based on Model, View, Controller design pattern. These frameworks provide, different common functionalities and classes in the form of helpers, components, and plug-in to reduce the development time. Due to these features like robustness, scalability, maintainability and performance, these frameworks are mostly used for web development in PHP, with performance being considered the most important factor. Objectives:The objective of this thesis is to compare and analyze the affect of data abstraction layer (ORM) on the performance of two PHP frameworks. These two frameworks are CakePHP and CodeIgniter. CAKEPHP has built-in support of object-relational mapping (ORM) but CodeIgniter has no built-in support of object-relational mapping (ORM). We considered load testing and stress testing to measure the performance of these two frameworks. Methods: We performed the experiment to show the performance of CakePHP (with ORM) and CodeIgniter (no ORM) frameworks. We developed two applications in both the PHP frameworks, with the same scope and design and measured the performance of these applications, with respect to load testing, with automated testing tool. The results have been obtained by testing the performance of both the applications on local and live servers. Conclusions:After analyzing the results we concluded that CodeIgniter is useful for small and medium sized applications. But CAKEPHP is good for large and enterprise level applications, as in stress conditions the CAKEPHP performed better than CodeIgniter on both local and live environment.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Master thesis deals with a comparison of two web application frameworks in PHP. The aim of this work is to provide a comprehensive view of the possibilities, differences and advantages of the selected frameworks. The main source for comparison is sample web applications that demonstrate these possibilities. For a comprehensive comparison, various criteria were chosen to analyze the properties of frameworks. These criteria are divided into five categories. Technology support examines the compatibility of framework for different versions of the platform. The most important and most widespread category is the analysis of options for creation of web applications, which discusses the most common tasks in developing applications and how frameworks approaches it. Other categories are design and architecture of framework, testing and general support for developers, which analyzes both online and offline sources of information used to learn and solve problems using the selected framework . Comparison results based on above mentioned criteria can help developers when choosing a modern web development framework for PHP platform.

Abstract:
[Context] PHP Frameworks, such as CakePHP and Codei- gniter, have become popular among developers, since they offer ease of development save time and provide already made libraries to use. Considering that more and more websites are built using these frameworks it is important to know how they impact the performance of the website. Comparing the two top frameworks with each other can shed some light on what the performance looks like today on the web with PHP as its base. [Problem] Visitors nowadays have less patience to wait for a website to load. Meanwhile, PHP Framework has become known among developers, but the part of the performance that reduces the load time even more so visitors can surf without any problems, is missing. Therefore, it is a good idea to try to discover how the performance of the PHP Framework can change and improve the visitor experience. [Con- tribution] In this paper is a description of one of the first performance experiments on PHP Frameworks. It can help people make the right de- cision regarding PHP Framework in the future. The lack of data in this area is also one of the decisions to make this paper as well.

Abstract:
We explore the problem of explaining observations starting from a classically inconsistent theory by adopting a paraconsistent framework. We consider two expansions of the well-known Belnap-Dunn paraconsistent four-valued logic BD: BD-circ introduces formulas of the form circ phi (‘the information about phi is reliable’), while BD-triangle augments the language with formulas triangle phi (‘there is information that phi is true’). We define and motivate the notions of abduction problems and explanations in BD-circ and BD-triangle and show that they are not reducible to one another. We analyse the complexity of standard abductive reasoning tasks (solution recognition, solution existence, and relevance / necessity of hypotheses) in both logics. Finally, we show how to reduce abduction in BD-circ and BD-triangle to abduction in classical propositional logic, thereby enabling the reuse of existing abductive reasoning procedures.

Radescu, Radu, and Sever Pasca. "ENHANCING THE SECURITY LEVEL OF THE NEW VERSION OF THE EASY-LEARNING ONLINE PLATFORM." In eLSE 2017. Carol I National Defence University Publishing House, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.12753/2066-026x-17-108.

Full text
Abstract:
The Easy-Learning platform is a system of online education developed as an original product of the Department of Applied Electronics and Information Engineering from the University Politehnica of Bucharest. The platform has undergone many changes over the years, from a simple project and becoming a complex and efficient work in virtual learning environment. At this time, the platform has achieved a high degree of maturity, obtained using Symfony's framework, which simplifies many repetitive tasks, enables automatic generation entities and networking with other technologies currently used. To design and implement version 2.0 of the Easy-Learning platform the following technologies were used: PHP5, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, MariaDB database management system (compared to MySQL in previous versions), RESTful Web services, Android, Apache (as Web server) and methodologies for securing the communication between an application server and a client application. Due to technology and security issues that arise in older versions of each framework, it was decided rewriting the PHP code of the platform in order to use the Symfony 2 framework. Accessing the interfaces for administrator, tutor and student is a secure action using a user name and password so that access is not allowed to unauthenticated users. On a server running MariaDB multiple users may be defined. For security reasons, the root user should be used only for administrative purposes. For each user to use the system, it must establish an individual account, which corresponds to a user name and password. They must not be identical usernames and passwords outside MariaDB system (for example, user names and passwords for UNIX and NT). Like MySQL, MariaDB has a complex system of privileges. A privilege is the right to perform a particular action on an object and is associated with a particular user. The concept is very similar to permissions on files. When creating users in MariaDB, it is assigned a set of privileges to specify the actions they can perform in the system. JavaScript scripts are limited by severe restrictions imposed by web browsers. For security reasons, JavaScript can not read, write, create and delete files on your hard disk. In terms of security, PHP provide developers a flexible and efficient set of safety measures. Developing of open-source PHP caused its rapid adaptation to the Web needs, and an efficient and secure code. PHP 5.5 (2013) and 5.6 (2014) are stable versions, including solving security issues. Twig is a templating system that supports PHP. Among the advantages of its use it is the security function. Twig has a sandbox mode used to evaluate the code. Twig can be used as a templating language where users are allowed to execute design actions. Among the recent improvements made to the Easy-Learning platform are rewriting PHP code, so that the Symfony 2 framework structure can be used, and securing authentication forms and private sections using an SSL certificate. Symfony 2 allows passwords to be encrypted using different algorithms, such as MD5, SHA1, SHA512 and bcrypt. The bcrypt algorithm is a function of a key derivation for passwords based on the Blowfish cipher. Besides that has defined a leap to protect against a dictionary-based attacks prefilled with different values, it is an adaptive function: in time, the number of iterations can be increased to make it more difficult to decrypt password. The bcrypt encryption algorithm used for passwords in Symfony 2 is presented. Because the platform works with personal data is needed as they are sent to the server through a secure protocol to prevent attacks like Man in the Middle or data theft. To demonstrate the implementation of this requirement, SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificates generated on the server development were used. This means that accessing the Easy-Learning platform browser will display a warning message indicating that the SSL certificate was not issued by an authority. The operation of porting the new version of the platform to the production server introduced a valid certificate. Sections that were considered opportune to introduce the HTTPS protocol are: login page, admin interface, tutor interface and student interface. Communication via HTTPS is done using the (public key, private key) pair. Thus, the data entered in the form is encrypted using a public key and sent to server. The server, using the private key, can decrypt and extract the contents of the data sent. The procedures for securing a specific page in Symfony 2 and the entire admin interface are presented. In order to test platform vulnerabilities, Acunetix Web Vulnerability Scanner 8 was used. With this tool, were tested vulnerabilities as: SQL Injection, XSS, Trojan Script, Week_Password_Basic_Auth, CRLF Injection, PHP Code Injection and CSRF. The results obtained by running this toll are presented. The recent contributions to the Easy-Learning platform includes creating a RESTful web service that can be used by external applications to access public and private information, based on a token generated for each student using its authentication service. In perspective, it is intended to add an external caching system such as Varnish.

Navarro, Adoracion. Challenges and Opportunities in Subnational Public-Private Partnerships in the Philippines. Philippine Institute for Development Studies, 2024. https://doi.org/10.62986/dp2024.43.

Abstract:
If designed and implemented well, public-private partnership (PPP) projects can fill the gaps in the public provision of infrastructure facilities and social services at the subnational level. The more than three decades of implementing subnational PPPs in the Philippines have highlighted many challenges, partly due to capacity gaps at the subnational level and fragmentation in previous legal frameworks. This fragmentation was characterized by varying and inconsistent local legislative council ordinances on PPPs and joint ventures for local government units, as well as nationally designed joint venture guidelines for water districts. The policy environment has evolved from being fragmented to having a legal framework that unifies the various policy approaches of subnational entities. Going forward, the new PPP Code can help subnational government entities be more judicious in entering into new PPP contracts. However, some ongoing and newly awarded contracts still have unresolved issues. One possible solution is contract redesign or amendment when the existing contract is burdensome to end-users or has the potential to make them unnecessarily bear a significant portion of project performance risks. This is permitted under Section 19 of the new PPP Code. Moreover, execution-level policymaking should continue, such as updating joint memorandum circulars, revising manuals and guidelines, updating PPP Governing Board policies, and creating new policies for maximizing commercial value capture or land value capture. To address knowledge and capacity gaps, new technical assistance support for capacity building must be established. A community of practice should also be nurtured. Lastly, the promotion of subnational PPPs in sectors where the PPP program can be expanded should be pursued.

Kim, Hyeyoung, Jihyun Lee, and Gerardo Reyes-Tagle. Standardized PPP Contract in Korea and its Implications for Latin America and the Caribbean. Inter-American Development Bank, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0003708.

Full text
Abstract:
The standardization of PPP contracts in Korea has played a key role in establishing PPP institutional frameworks in the civil law system in which there must be legal and institutional safeguards for the long-term PPP contracts. The reliability of standardized contracts is secured due to the fact that the standardized PPP contract has been prepared by the statutory PPP agency under the approval of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, an influential ministry within the government. The standardization of PPP contracts has been of great utility for both the competent authorities and private partners. The standardized contract has streamlined negotiations. The private partner was able to trust in the major risk allocation declared through the standardized contract in handling land acquisition, construction completion, operation and demand, and termination. We found out through our survey that there are similarities between Korea and LAC countries in that most LAC countries have adopted the civil law system and the countries have developed similar payment types for PPP and risk allocation principles. The experience and lessons on standardized PPP contract in Korea can be of great utility to LAC countries.

Abstract:
This paper examines how the main characteristics of Argentinas policymaking process (PMP) affect the productivity of its economy using the conceptual framework presented in Murillo, Scartascini and Tommasi (2008), Stein et al. (2008), Spiller and Tommasi (2007), and IDB (2005). First, the paper complements existing descriptions of the PMP by considering private agents and elaborating on structural characteristics possibly conducive to policymaking instability. Second, the paper illustrates the (negative) impact of Argentinas low-quality and myopic PMP equilibrium on productivity by examining two key areas: provision of infrastructure services and agricultural policy. Finally, the paper explores the PMP at the local level of government (municipalities and local communities), finding that it mimics the flaws observed at the federal level.
