Self-Compatibility Inheritance in Tomatillo (Physalis IxocarpaBrot.)One of the main limiting factors to improve tomatillo is the presence of self-incompatibility which has been reported to be gametophytic. The following crosses were performed: self-compatible x self-incompatible, self-compatible x self-compatible and self-incompatible x self-incompatible and their respective reciprocal crosses. To support the crop improvement of Physalis ixopcarpa Brot., 16 accessions provided by National Plant Germ Plasm System USDA (USA) and one recently reported accession from Pakistan were characterized for morphometric and genetic diversity. These accessions were evaluated for morphometric and physiological traits. Among these traits, plant height, relative water content, total chlorophyll content, per cent germination and leaf area were found as best for the differentiation among these accessions. These accessions were also screened for genetic differentiation using RAPDs primers. The genetic s

ABSTRACT The Physalis ixocarpa species has an interesting performance in hot and dry regions. However, there has been a lack of information about the influence of edaphoclimatic conditions, during the growing period, on the physical and physicochemical characteristics of the fruits. This study aimed to evaluate the characteristics of ‘purple' and ‘green' fruits of the P. ixocarpa species, according to the growing season, in the semi-arid region of the Bahia state, Brazil. A randomized block design was used, in a 2 x 2 x 5 factorial scheme (variety x growing season x fruit maturation stages), w

The development of the reproductive parts of husk tomato plants cv. 'Rendidora' was investigated and is presented in the form of curves based on regression equations or on the average data. The number of flower buds and flowers existing on a plant was highest at the 9th week after emergence (AE) and showed a second, lower pick toward the end of the experiment. These last flower buds and flowers did not have the opportunity to produce fruits of commercial size. The number of fruits reached its maximum at the 11th week AE but a great proportion of fruits smaller than 2 cm were shed. The plants w
