Ecotourism is a common conservation and development strategy in the Maya, Forest region. New sites of ecotourism consumption, such as El Rematé near Tikal National Park in Guatemala, are developing in response to consumer demand for budget accommodations in this attractive cultural and natural setting. This study analyzes new ecotourism infrastructure developments in El Rematé for signs that this tourism draws on ecological imagery as expressed in popular media - or popular ecology - not on the natural and cultural ecology of the region that is the target of international conservation efforts.

An important source of information about climate change comes from sedimentary deposits from the arctic region. However, there are few lacustrine fossil records from the central mid Arctic region of Canada. A 485 cm sediment core, from a lake unofficially called JR01, Boothia Peninsula, Nunavut, yielded a high-resolution diatom record. Five radiocarbon dates provided the chronology. Three distinct zones are revealed in the relative percent abundance and diatom concentration diagrams. A minerogenic lamina deposited during the annual thaw period and a thin deposit of organic matter deposited during the summer and through the winter, together form a clastic-organic couplet each year. These erosion rates are useful to geomorphologists investigating landscape evolution. How great potential effect does the Black carbon emitted from the boreal forest fire region of Alaska have on the retreating glaciers of the St. Elias Mountains? In this study climate and forest fire history data of Alaska was run in the HYSPLIT wind trajectory model to generate trajectories originated from large occurring fires in Alaska from 2005 to 2014.
