Given that water is the main solvent in living organisms as well as in domestic and industrial activities, it must be treated as carefully as possible after multiple uses to get a harmless water quality. To remove the undesirable materials (e.g. organic matters, surfactants, petroleum products, unwanted metals, dyes, et.), the physicochemical water treatment process is used as the common method. This method of wastewater treatment uses flocculation – coagulation technique, which consists of mixing coagulant matters with water to collect, in solid clusters, the materials in suspension by gravit

Abstract:
Selenium (Se), a metalloid element in group VIA with an atomic number of 34, occurs naturally and as a result of human activities. Its environmental presence is critical for organisms but poses health risks at elevated levels. Se contamination stems from activities such as mining, coal-fired power plants, and agricultural drainage, significantly affecting water, air, and soil. In aquatic environments, selenium exists predominantly as Se(IV) and Se(VI), which are highly toxic and bioavailable, causing ecological harm. Advanced technologies like membrane filtration and electrokinetics are effective for Se remediation. Membrane technologies offer high efficiency in large-scale selenium separation, employing materials like Na-modified quantum carbon dots and core-shell biofunctionalized polyamide matrices to enhance water permeability and Se ion rejection. Additionally, weak magnetic fields (WMF) and zero-valent iron (ZVI) systems improve selenium removal efficiency by facilitating chemical reactions that sequester Se ions. This chapter provides an overview of selenium’s physicochemical properties, sources, production, uses, environmental contamination, and treatment technologies, emphasizing innovative methods and technological advancements in Se remediation.

Today, it is common practice to produce oil from failure-prone, weakly cemented reservoirs. The operators’ desire to increase production requires operating wells at their maximum capacity, and therefore leads to more aggressive drainage of the reservoirs with high oil flow from the pay zone to the well bore. At the same time, the oil filtration rate increases significantly, especially in the near well bore zone. This promotes the active movement of rock particles together with the production from the bottomhole formation zone to the well bore. Sand movement to the well bore and removal into th

Abstract:
This Evidence Snapshot review identifies innovative models of service delivery for Opioid Treatment Programs and their costs. The review was conducted to support improving access to treatment in NSW. Innovative models of opioid treatment identified were digital health, primary care, low threshold, group-based treatment, and mobile outreach as well as a combination of these models. Telemedicine models were most frequently mentioned in the peer reviewed literature as these addressed many traditional barriers to treatment, particularly for rural and hard to reach communities. Primary care models
