Abstract:
Current research on cognitive learning is applied to the designing of several experiments for use in high school physical science and physics classes. The goal of the project was to use simple inexpensive materials to construct experiments and demonstrations that illustrate physics concepts and can easily be modeled using simple mathematics.Saline solutions are used to show simple examples of refraction and effects of a solution of varying density. The refractive index of two liquids is measured. The continuous refraction of a stratified fluid is demonstrated. Fluid flow is investigated. This

In this study, a Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) optical sensor, based on Kretschmann configuration, was designed and constructed. SPR is a useful tool for obtaining quantitative kinetic and affinity information on biomolecular interactions. The resolution and the sensitivity of our homemade SPR system was determined and optimized by using thiols and sucrose solutions. The data were normalized and processed to increase the resolution of the system. The sensograms were obtained and the kinetic constants were analyzed. The sensogram of the thiols solutions illustrated the process of associat

Modern physical experiments often demand advanced instrumentation based on advances in  technology. This work describes four instrumentation physics projects that are based on modern, high-capacity Field-Programmable Gate Arrays, making use of their versatility, programmability, high bandwidth communication interfaces and signal processing capabilities. In the first project, a jet-finding algorithm for the ATLAS detector at the LHC experiment at CERN was developed and implemented, and different verification methods were created to validate the functionality and reliability.

Abstract:
Experiments were conducted using the Time of Flight (TOF) method to identify the final product states of the dissociative recombination reaction of krypton and xenon. In the dissociative recombination (DR) reaction the molecular ion breaks up into product atoms whose velocities can be measured. These velocities can then be used to identify the final product states. The DR of krypton had been studied by Shiu and Biondi using spectrometric techniques. They observed the 5p states. Hardy et al. using TOF techniques had observed the 5s states. Mitchell et al. studied the DR of xenon. They observed

This thesis is part of a larger qualification effortperformed at Westinghouse Electric Sweden AB of the PHOENIX5 latticephysics code. The aim of the thesis is to validate PHOENIX5 withregards to cold criticality tests performed at the Toshiba NCAfacility in 2010-2011. For this, 26 different models were built torepresent the experiments performed by Toshiba in PHOENIX5. As anindependent reference, models were also built for the probabilisticMonte Carlo code SERPENT. The parameters examined in this thesis arethe criticality of the system, as well as the pin fission rates forselected experiments.

Abstract:
In this thesis we consider a number of past, present, and future neutrino experiments designed to test physics beyond the Standard Model. First, we analyze potential new physics explanations of the NuTeV anomaly and check their compatibility with the most recent experimental data. The models we consider are: gauged Lmu-Ltau, gauged B-3Lmu, and S1, S3, V1, V3 leptoquarks. We find that only the triplet leptoquark models can explain NuTeV and be compatible with the data from other experiments at the same time, and only if the components of the triplet have different masses. Then, we analyze the
