Full textDen bakomliggande dynamiken hos de radiativa sönderfallen η(')→ π+π-π0γ är fortfarande okänd. I nuläget finns bara en övre gräns för η och η' har ännu inte fastställts. I detta projekt studeras sönderfallen av η och η' till sluttillståndet π+π-π0γ genom de dominanta bidragen från bromsstrålning av η och ett mellantillstånd där η' först sönderfaller till ωγ och ett ytterligare sönderfall av ω till π+π-π0. Simulationer har genomförts med hjalp av ROOT, som är ett program baserat pa C++, for att avgöra om sönderfallen kan observeras. Händelsegeneratorn baseras på tidigare arbeten som beskriver sönderfallsprocesserna och resultaten presenteras i from av Dalitz-grafer. Sannolikheten for processen η' → ωγ, ω → π+π-π0 är 6.16±0.83 gånger mer trolig än η'→ π+π-π0. Sannolikheten för η → π+π-π0γ presenteras i resultatdelen av rapporten för olika energier av fotonen som avges genom bromsstrålning.

Full textIn dieser Arbeit werden die Kalibrierungsmethoden des elektromagnetischen Kalorimeters des BABAR-Experiments vorgestellt. Entwickelt wurde dabei eine Methode, die die unterschiedlichen Energieverluste zwischen Kristallrändern und Kristallmitten berücksichtigt. Es wurde dabei eine Verbesserung der Energieauflösung von Photonen, abhängig von der Energie, von bis zu 15% erreicht. Für Y(4S)- und Kontinuumsereignisse wurden die Impulsspektren und für letztere die impulsabhängigen Richtungsverteilungen inklusiv produzierter neutraler Pionen (Y(4S) -> pi0 X bzw. e+e- -> q anti-q -> pi0 X) bestimmt. Aus diesen Verteilungen wurde die mittleren Anzahl erzeugter pi0 pro Ereignis ermittelt. Für B-Zerfälle bzw. Kontinuumsereignisse ergaben sich n(B) =2,268+-0,008+-0,115 bzw. n(Kontinuum)=3,388+-0,005+-0,172. Diese Werte wurden mit Monte-Carlo-Simulationen und mit anderen Analysen verglichen

Full textAn analysis of B to pi0 l nu and B to eta l nu decays using the neutrino reconstruction technique is presented. The dataset consists of 535 million BB pairs in 492 fb^−1 of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric e+e− collider. The measured B to pi0 l nu and B to eta l nu branching fractions are B(B to pi0 l nu) = (0.68 ± 0.09 ± 0.11 ± 0.04)×10^−4 and B(B to eta l nu) = (0.42 ± 0.13)×10^−4. The errors on the pi0 measurement are statistical, experimental systematic, and due to b to u l nu modelling, respectively; that on the eta is statistical only. The B to pi0 l nu branching fraction is measured in three q^2 bins: q^2 < 8 GeV^2, 8 GeV^2 ≤ q^2 < 16 GeV^2, and 16 GeV^2 ≤ q^2. The Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark-mixing matrix element |Vub| is extracted from the B to pi0 l nu branching fraction using a Light-Cone Sum Rules form factor extrapolated to the full q^2 range, and is found to be |Vub| = (3.29 ± 0.23 ± 0.27 ± 0.05)×10^−3, where the errors are statistical, experimental systematic, and theoretical, respectively.

Full textThe NA48/2 experiment at the CERN SPS has collected a large sample of K to pi pi0 gamma decays. Two amplitudes contribute to these decays. The dominant one comes from Inner Bremsstrahlung (IB) in the K to pi pi0 process. The second one is given by the Direct Emission (DE) of the photon at the weak vertex from an intermediate state of the decay. The simplest radiative transitions are electric dipole (E1) and magnetic dipole (M1). Electric amplitudes can interfere with IB, and CP violation and possible non-SM effects can show up in th e corresponding interference (INT) term. In this work a sub sample of the data has been analyzed. About 120000 K to pi pi0 gamma decays, with negligible background contamination have been reconstructed in the ranges 0. 2 < W < 0. 9 and T < 80 MeV. Photon mistagging (i. E. , choice of the wrong odd photon) has been kept smaller than the per mil level for all decay components. The fractions of DE and INT with respect to IB present in data have been determined by fitting the proportions of simulated IB, DE and INT W distributions to reproduce the experimental one, using a maximum likelihood method. Stability of the results with variation of selection cut values and a number of sources of systematic uncertainties have been studied

Full textT2K is a long baseline neutrino oscillation experiment located in Japan. It was built mainly to detect muon neutrino to electron neutrino oscillation and to measure the mixing angle &thetas;13 of the PMNS matrix, along with the precision measurement of &thetas;23 and mass differences. A νμ beam is produced at the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC) in Tokai and travels to the far detector in Kamioka, Japan. There is an ensemble of detectors at 280 m downstream of the target that form the near detector. Super-Kamiokande, a water Cherenkov detector, located 295 km away from the target serves as the far detector.
The two main backgrounds for electron neutrino appearance at the Super-Kamiokande are the inherent electron neutrino component of the beam and the \pizero{} particle produced via neutral current channel (NC1π0) that mimics the electron neutrino interaction signature. To effectively constrain the NC1π0 interaction rate on water, the Pi0 Detector (P0D) was built as one of the near detectors. This detector can be filled and drained with water periodically to enable extraction of neutrino interactions on water.
This analysis measures the NC1π0 interaction rate on water in the P0D. It uses neutrino beam data of 3.53 × 1020 protons-on-target (POT) for the water-in configuration of the P0D and 6.70 × 1020 POT for the water-out configuration. A set of selections are implemented to obtain a sample enriched in signal events.
The π0 invariant mass distribution is compared between data and Monte Carlo. Parameter estimation using Markov Chain Monte Carlo sampling method is performed to measure the signal events in data.
The data fit results in 130 ± 20 events on water including both statistical and systematic uncertainties for an expected value of 167 events predicted by the NEUT Monte Carlo. The ratio between nominal Monte Carlo and the best fit value is 0.78 ± 0.12.

Full textThe T2K experiment is an off-axis long baseline neutrino flavour oscillation experiment. In T2K, the neutrino beam produced by an accelerator at J-PARC, Tokai, is detected using the Super Kamiokande (SK) detector, Kamioka, located 295 km away from Tokai. The accelerator produce a very pure nu_mu beam. During the propagation of neutrinos between their production point and SK they may change flavour. This effect is the neutrino flavour oscillation. The main objective of T2K is to measure some parameters describing the neutrino flavour oscillation, in particular of theta13 and deltaCP. This determination is performed by measuring the nu_mu -> nu_e oscillation probability, via the nu_e appearance search. In 2011, T2K was the first experiment to observe nu_e appearance and published a 2. 5 sigma evidence that theta13 is not null. In this thesis we present the work done on the evaluation of the systematic error on the pi0 background reconstruction efficiency. The pi0 background is one of the main background sources affecting the nu_e appearance search through the detection of nu_e charged current quasi-elastic events at SK. Two different and complementary approaches have been developed. First, we have started developing a new device that partially reproduces the topology of physics events. Second, we have created a specific sample to estimate the systematic uncertainty of pi0 events reconstruction efficiency. This result was used in the official 2011 nu_e search. Furthermore, results from this sample will be used in future extended oscillation analysis. We also present the first study of the leptonic CP violation phase (deltaCP) using T2K nu_e data, assuming the recently measured value of theta13 by reactor experiments

Full textThis thesis encloses two separate studies: measurement of the branching fraction of B0 -> Psi(2S)Pi0 using Belle data and estimation of the low momentum QED background at the future experiment Belle II. The first study refers to the analysis of the decay channel B0 -> Psi(2S)Pi0 and the measurement of its branching fraction. It is noteworthy to mention that this is the first measurement of the B0 -> Psi(2S)Pi0 branching fraction. For this measurement, the complete data set of 772 million BbarB pairs, collected by the Belle detector at the asymmetric e+e- KEKB collider was used. The value obtained for the branching ratio is B (B0->Psi(2S)Pi0) = (1.07 +/- 0.23 +/- 0.08) x e-5. The second study regards the quality performance of the upgraded Belle detector, named Belle II. Many sub-components of the detector will be replaced or upgraded, but the major change will be the new pixel vertex detector, placed at extreme proximity to the beam-pipe. Due to its small radius it will be the most affected by background. In particular it is expected to suffer mostly from the low energy electrons and positrons coming from the QED process e+e- -> e+e-e+e-. Since the luminosity delivered by the new SuperKEKB collider is expected to be 40 times higher than the one delivered by KEKB, the background level of Belle II is expected to increase accordingly. We particularly studied this QED process with a special random trigger, where the emitted very low energy secondary electrons and positrons reach only the innermost layers of the pixel detector. So far the cross section in this phase space was never measured and there may be therefore large uncertainties in the theoretical predictions. The obtained measurements gave an occupancy in the innermost layer of 0.7 %, which is below the maximal occupancy of 3 % that the pixel detector can handle to work properly.

Full textLHCb has been designed in order to perform precise measurements of CP violation and rare decays with B mesons. At the LHC start-up, one of the first tasks will be to check the expected apparatus performances. This thesis looks to the first recorded data by the LHCb experiment for two of the subjects developed : the photon reconstruction in the electromagnetic calorimeter assuming different experimental situations, and the calibration of the calorimeter. A photon identification tool is developed based on a Fisher discriminant method using information from all the calorimeter sub-detectors (SPD, PS, ECAL, and HCAL). The reconstructed photons are used for π° mass reconstruction parameters, able to evaluate the overall calibration level. For individual cell calibration, the constraint from the reconstructed π° mass is used. A 1 % calibration can be achieved even starting from a 30 % spread cell to cell calibration within a few tenth hours at the LHCb nomina luminosity. Two physics channels, for which the calorimeter calibration and neutral mesons decaying into photon pair reconstruction are key points, are studied. The channel Bd° → J/Ψπ° to measure βeff angle, where unexpected contributions beyond the standard model may occur and the channel Bs° → J/ψη measures the βs angle has been studied

Full textEn effet des mesures faites par les expériences BaBar et BELLE en 2001 et en 2004 ont conclu à la présence non négligeable d'interactions fortes dans l'état final, non prédites par le modèle QCD de la factorisation naïve. Une nouvelle mesure plus précise est nécessaire pour tester et contraindre les théories effectives qui prennent en compte ces effets QCD telles SCET ou pQCD. Enfin des mesure précises contraindraient d'avantage les modèles des désintégrations supprimées de couleur et fourniraient des contraintes indirectes sur le rapport rB qui est un paramètre important pour la mesure de l'angle CKM gamma avec les désintégrations B- -> D(*)0K- . L'objet de cette thèse est la mesure des rapports d'embranchement de ces désintégrations supprimées de couleur avec l'ensemble des runs 1 à 6 de BaBar soit environ 454 millions de paires BBbar.
