Abstract:
ABSTRACTThe history of walking in the city has long been neglected, and the existing scholarship is largely concerned with rioting,flânerieor urban geography. This article aims to detect the behavioural patterns of pedestrian traffic in the late nineteenth century through a close study of the methods of pickpockets in London streets, with information gleaned from trial reports and writings on pickpockets. By analysing the most common ways in which pickpockets operated, as described in numerous accounts, we can see how they adapted to nineteenth-century pedestrian norms, and through this method acquire a rough outline of what pedestrian traffic looked like, and thus how urban dwellers living in a critical historical period adapted and reacted to urban conditions on an everyday level. The evidence shows that pedestrian traffic through the century remained highly interactive, and that the modern aspects of cities identified in theories of civilizing or impoverishment of the public realm had a very limited impact at this time.

Abstract:
22 July 1824. Many Londoners had waited years for this night. They thronged to the English Opera House, filling the boxes and cramming the benches in the pit and gallery. It was worth the heat, the expense, the danger from pickpockets. After hearing of its success for three years, after glimpsing snatches of it in concert and sheet music excerpts, and after enduring weeks of advertising for the English Opera House production, they would finally be the first in London to witness the most celebrated German opera of the time: Weber's Der Freischütz.

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is brief presentation of learning and development of the cult of Saint Death, and to indicate to the interest in anthropology and religious studies on this phenomenon that contributes to a better understanding of this interesting topic. It is certainly not an exhaustive study on this issue, but only a starting point for further, more comprehensive and interdisciplinary researches. The cult of Saint Death is increasingly popular, not only in Mexico but also in neighboring countries, such as Guatemala, El Salvador and the United States. The cult of Saint Death is already a social phenomenon which has yet to be systematically explored, especially as this syncretic religious system is very popular among the Mexican underworld: drug dealers, street vendors, taxi drivers, vendors, piracy, street children, prostitutes, pickpockets, criminal gangs and murderers.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTBy examining the development of pickpocketing by juveniles (jaguda in Yoruba) in the later colonial era, the paper provides important information on popular urban society in the most populous city in Nigeria and tropical Africa: Ibadan. Representations of the urban experience for a group of criminally-minded citizens are detailed through explorations of street-life, public order, citizenry and neighbourhood reactions. It contributes to the emerging literature on urban patterns in colonial Africa, especially the growth of non-ethnic associations among the lower orders. The resistance of pickpockets to powerful attempts to inculcate conformist modes of behaviour through indigenous and colonial agencies of control and manipulation is highlighted. Both authority systems failed to tackle the problem of street crime beyond the banishment of offenders – a superficial, short-term solution to a well-rooted deviant urban youth culture.

Abstract:
1d. O kiek dar padaryta administracinių teisės pažeidimų? Pranešimas, kad šalyje padidėjo nusikalstamumas, dažniausiai reiškia, kad padaugėjo nusikaltimų nuosavybei, o ypač vagysčių.
The fear to become a victim of a crime makes human‘s security feeling less, and makes social life inadequate that‘s why it‘s published everwhere that the security of property is one of the most important functions of the government. Despite juridical human‘s security of property thefts consists about 80% of all the registered crimes in Lithuania. Lawyers faces that breaches of the criminal law are natural and inevitable element of the social life, however not all of these breaches we can say it‘s normal. Despite that crimes are inevitable element of the social life, governement must try to do something that there would be less crimes and people fealing of security must always be at the center of attention of the authority. The theft is the most popular breach of law not even in Lithuania but also in all the world. It‘s strange but most people who don‘t have had any deals with pickpockets are sure that turning out of pocket when the owner doesn‘t see is not possible. Despite that pickpockets takes about quarter of all the crimes of property (thefts) in Vilnius. In nowdays pickpocket is nice-dressed, invisible and inconspicous, capable, he can melt into the crowd very fast, acute, smart, supple and which has other right features, which gives him self-confidence and an opportunity invisible turn out the victim‘s pockets.

This study adopts the situational crime prevention to probe into situational factors of the pickpocket in the night market, investigating Taipei Sheda Night Market and Shilin Night Market. By collecting and organizing the literature, frames and methods of the study are established. Via exploratory participate observations and semi-structure interviews, the researcher integrates the viewpoints of victims in two night markets, stall vendors, police officers as well as committee members of the night market, analyzes results of observations, and suggests prevention strategies. According to results of the analysis and proofs of the theory, this study discovers that crime effort and crime risks are the most serious factors influencing the pickpocket in the night market. These two serious factors belong to two of the five dimensions of situational crime prevention. As for crime effort, six conclusions are mentioned as follows. A) Streets of the night market are too narrow. B) Routes of the pedestrians are bad. C) The density of people is very high. D) People don’t have a good habit of carrying bags. E) People don’t pay attention to the surrounding. F) People don’t keep an eye on their personal belongings. As for crime risks, five conclusions are described as follows. A) The night market doesn’t have enough or lacks closed-circuit televisions (CCTVS). B) The patrol visibility is low. C) The professional trainings regarding the pickpocket of police officers are insufficient. D) People are lack of knowledge about the pickpocket. E) The night market doesn’t have enough committees. Above all, the most important two factors influencing the pickpocket in the night market are the high density of the people and followed by the lacking of formal surveillance. In terms of the lacking of formal surveillance, the effect of CCTVS used to prevent the pickpocket in the night market is low. The patrol visibility is low, too. Therefore, this study concludes that prevention strategies are to build up people’s concepts of the pickpocket, strengthen the formal surveillance, and reinforce police officers’ professional trainings regarding the pickpocket in the night market.

Abstract:
This chapter highlights A. Litvin's anthology, Jewish Souls (1914). Shmuel Hurvits, whose pseudonym was A. Litvin, was born to a poor family in Minsk in 1862. He educated himself in both Jewish and general subjects, and began to work as a teacher. In 1911-12, Litvin began to publish articles based on his travels throughout eastern Europe beginning in 1905. After returning to the United States in 1914, he published these articles in a six-volume anthology entitled Yidishe neshomes (Jewish Souls). In scores of sketches of badkhonim, purim-shpilers, wandering preachers, and musicians; healers and holy men; beggars, pickpockets, and thieves in towns and cities throughout Poland, Lithuania, and Galicia, Litvin constructs an extraordinary panorama of the life of the Jewish masses at the moment when centuries-old traditions engaged modernity and either changed or vanished. He documents this world in the interests of a new generation of Jews who, he believed, needed such knowledge to build a secular yet authentically Jewish modern culture.
