Von 2002 bis Anfang 2015 hat sich die Zahl der in Österreich lebenden Deutschen auf 170.457 mehr als verdoppelt. Seit 2007 sind die Deutschen die größte Ausländergruppe in Österreich (Statistik_Austria, 2016a), wobei, anders als bei der Einwanderung aus den Nachfolgestaaten Jugoslawiens und aus der Türkei, Einbürgerungen keine Rolle bei der Entwicklung dieser Zahlen spielen (Statistik_Austria, 2016b). Umgekehrt lebten Ende 2014 179.772 ÖsterreicherInnen in Deutschland (Statistisches_Bundesamt, 2016).
Obwohl viele der in Österreich lebenden Deutschen mit recht stabilen Ressentiments und damit verbundenen Anfeindungen konfrontiert sind - die teilweise sehr offen vorgebracht werden und teilweise eher unterschwellig ablaufen - ist der im Land weit verbreitete Anti-Germanismus aus der Migrations-, Rassismus- und Diversity-Forschung in Österreich bisher komplett ausgeblendet worden. Dem soll durch das diesem Ergebnisbericht zugrundeliegende Forschungsprojekt entgegengetreten werden. (author's abstract)

Cette thèse vise à améliorer la compréhension du phénomène appelé « dwell-effect », observé sur la plupart des alliages de titane, consistant en une chute de durée de vie en fatigue suite à l’introduction de temps de maintien à la charge maximale du cycle de fatigue. Cette étude a permis de montrer que ce phénomène résulte d’un amorçage plus précoce et d’une fissuration plus rapide sous chargement de fatigue-dwell. Les analyses menées sur les éprouvettes de fatigue et de fluage ont révélé que l’activation de glissements basal ou pyramidal peut être à l’origine d’un endommagement interne par formation de cavités. De plus, cette étude montre que l’hydrogène interne, dans la gamme de teneurs 30-300 ppm, a un effet bénéfique sur les durées de vie, sans pour autant modifier les mécanismes de déformation et d’endommagement. Pour une teneur inférieure à 150 ppm, cet effet bénéfique peut être expliqué par l’augmentation de la limite élastique avec la teneur en hydrogène ; au-delà de cette teneur, l’accroissement de la limite d’élasticité ne suffit plus à expliquer l’effet bénéfique de l’hydrogène sur les durées de vie en fatigue. Les différents essais de fissuration ont montré que l’augmentation de la vitesse de fissuration sous air sous chargement de fatigue-dwell est le résultat de la combinaison des effets néfastes de l’environnement et de l’hydrogène interne. Le rôle exact de l’hydrogène reste à préciser mais il pourrait être à l’origine de la formation de micro fissures dans les zones de forte triaxialité de contraintes. Des analyses par micro empreintes montrent que l’hydrogène passe de la phase b à la phase a au niveau des bandes de glissement, via les dislocations. Enfin, l’intégration des lois de fissuration permet de reproduire convenablement l’évolution de la longueur d’une entaille au cours d’essais de fatigueThis study focuses on the dwell-fatigue behaviour of a beta-forged Ti-6242 alloy. The dwell-effect, phenomenon observed on most of titanium alloys, consists in a fatigue-life decrease after the introduction of hold periods at the maximum stress level. Firstly, this study shows that the dwell-effect results from both earlier fatigue-crack initiation and faster crack propagation. The analyses conducted on the fatigue and creep specimens reveal an internal damage consisting in micro voids nucleation along shear bands resulting from either basal or pyramidal slips. Moreover, tests conducted on hydrogen-charged specimens until 300 ppm show that internal hydrogen has a beneficial effect on fatigue-life without changing the damage mechanism. However, for hydrogen content below 150 ppm, this beneficial may be explained by the increase in yield stress with the increasing hydrogen content, but for hydrogen content over 150 ppm, the increase in yield stress is not sufficient to explain the increase in fatigue-life. Crack growth tests reveal faster crack propagation under dwell-fatigue loading. This increase in crack growth rate results from a combination of deleterious effects of environment and internal hydrogen. The role of internal hydrogen needs more analyses to be clearly established but the internal hydrogen could be responsible of the nucleation of micro cracks in the main crack tip area

Dans ce travail de thèse, nous avons étudié la nucléation de dislocations depuis la surface d'un métal cfc sous contrainte, par le biais de simulations à l'échelles atomiques et de modèles basés sur la théorie élastique des dislocations. La nucléation depuis les surfaces, qui initie la plasticité dans les matériaux à l'échelle nanométrique, implique le franchissement d'une barrière d'énergie ; celui-ci se fait par activation thermique. Nous avons pu déterminer le rôle de différents facteurs, comme la température ou l'état de surface, sur l'évènement de nucléation. Plusieurs méthodes atomistiques ont été employées de concert pour déterminer les paramètres d'activation associés à la barrière d'énergie : le rayon critique que la dislocation doit atteindre pour devenir stable et se propager, l'énergie et le volume d'activation. Enfin, des éléments sur la cinétique des dislocations et sur les évènements plastiques subséquents à la nucléation ont pu être obtenusIn this PhD thesis, we studied the nucleation of dislocations from a surface in a fcc metal under stress, using atomic-scale simulations as well as models based on elastic theory of dislocations. Nucleation from surfaces, which initiate plasticity in nanometer-scale materials, requires the crossing of an energy barrier; this is possible through thermal activation. We were able to determine the role of different factors, such as temperature or the surface condition, on the nucleation event. Several atomistic methods were used to determine the activation parameters associated with the energy barrier: the critical radius the dislocations has to overcome in order to become stable and propagate, and the activation energy and volume. Finally, some information concerning dislocations dynamics and plastic phenomena subsequent to the nucleation process were obtained

Cette thèse présente une nouvelle méthode d'animation basée sur la topologie. Elle consiste à animer une partition de l'espace et en assurer sa cohérence. Le système d'animation s’appuie sur un mécanisme événementiel qui détecte les incohérences topologiques. L'animation est générée à partir du traitement séquentiel de tous les événements. Lors du mouvement des entités, l'instant des collisions est calculé et des événements sont générés. Pour prendre en charge ces collisions, ces événements sont traités par rapport à leurs contextes locaux (géométrique, sémantique). Un traitement engendre des changements géométriques et topologiques et assure la cohérence entre le modèle géométrique et le modèle topologique. Cette thèse présente également une application en géologie permettant de générer l'animation de l'évolution du sous-sol à partir de phénomènes naturels décrits dans un scénario. Dans ce cadre, un scénario est composé d'une suite de phénomènes géologiques (sédimentation, érosion, création de failles et glissement) analysée par le système d’animation 2D. Un phénomène est traduit en un ensemble d’événements initiaux. Une fois l'animation générée, le géologue peut l'analyser et la valider grâce aux informations sémantiques et historiques fournies par le modèleThis thesis presents a new animation method based on topology. It consists in animating a space partition while ensuring its consistency. The scenes are described from a high-level language depending on the application. The animation system relies on an event approach which detects topological events. The animation is generated from the sequential processing of all events. During the motion of entities, the date of collisions is computed and events are generated. For processing those collisions, events are handled with respect to their local contexts (both geometrical and semantical). This thesis also presents an application in geology which allows the user to generate a subsoil evolution from some natural phenomena described by a scenario. A scenario is made of a sequence of geological phenomena (sedimentation, erosion, fault creation and sliding) analyzed by the animation system. A phenomenon is therefore translated into a set of initial events. After the animation has been generated, the geologist can analyze and validate it with the semantical and historical information given by the model

Over the past years teaching chemistry, I have noticed there are some topics which constantly pose a challenge to students. From my own observation and interaction with my students, I have always thought that my students understand the concepts I am teaching. However, when it comes to taking tests and doing assessments in these areas students do not seem to demonstrate the knowledge and understanding required. Through my readings, I have noticed the use of rubrics as an important assessment technique, which can help students perform well on a given task. As a result, I have decided to investigate what will be the effect of using rubric-based formative assessment on students understanding and motivation to learn chemistry. I chose my 10th grade chemistry class as the focus on my project. Baseline comparison data were collected during a nontreatment unit on atomic structure through the use of pre, post and delayed concept map, interviews, surveys, and traditional assessments test. I then implemented two treatment units that utilized rubric-based assessment. The first treatment unit focused on ionic bonding and compounds and the second focused on covalent bonding and compounds. These two treatment units incorporated the use of pre, post, and delayed concept maps, interviews, survey, projects, labs, unit test and self-reflections journal. After I analyzed pre and postunit concept maps, interviews and surveys, I determined that the implementation of rubric-based assessment did not have any significant improvement on students understanding. The data from the post and delayed assessment concept maps, interviews, surveys and unit test indicated that students' long-term memory increased. Students' responses on the student survey, and my reflective journal entries indicated that students were responding very positive to the different types of assessments being utilized with the incorporation of rubrics and that their long-term memory, attitude, motivation were increased. As a result, my attitude and motivation towards teaching chemistry also increased.

La démocratisation des MEMS a permis l'essor des centrales d’attitude : groupement de capteurs permettant d'évaluer son orientation par rapport au repère terrestre. Il existe plusieurs types de capteurs utilisés dans de telles centrales : les accéléromètres, les magnétomètres et les gyromètres. Seule la combinaison accéléromètres – magnétomètres – gyromètres permet l'estimation de l'orientation cinématique de façon satisfaisante, sans connaître d'à priori sur le mouvement, c'est-à-dire l'estimation de l'orientation en présence d’accélération inconnue. Le sujet de la thèse est justement, dans le cadre de la captation de mouvement corps entier, d'ajouter des connaissances à priori afin de limiter le nombre de gyromètres, voire de les supprimer totalement. Ces connaissances sont l'information que les capteurs sont fixés sur un squelette et que leurs mouvements relatifs ne peuvent être que des compositions de rotations. Pour tester l'efficience de cette méthode, on l'applique d'abord sur un pendule simple à un degré de liberté, puis sur un pendule à trois degrés de liberté, ensuite sur des groupes de segments (épaule – bras – avant-bras par exemple) et sur le corps entier. Ce rapport de thèse développera les aspects théoriques ainsi que les résultats obtenus sur les différentes méthodologies de résolutionDemocratization of MEMS has enabled the development of attitude control : group of sensors enabling to measure ones orientation relatively to Earth's frame. There are several types of sensors used in attitude control : accelerometers, magnetometers and gyroscopes. Only the combination accelerometers - magnetmeters - gyros allows a satisfying estimation of the kinematics orientation without any a priori knowledge on the mouvement, that is to say, the estimation of the orientation in presence of an unknown acceleration. The aim of the thesis is, within the context of whole body motion capture, to add a priori knowledge in order to reduce the number of gyroscopes used, or even to eliminate them completely. This a priori knowledge is the fact that sensors are attached to a skeleton and so that their relative motions can only be combination of rotations. To test the efficiency of this method, we first apply it to a simple pendulum with one degree of freedom, then a pendulum with three degrees of freedom, then on groups of segments (shoulder - arm - forearm for example) and finally on a whole body system. Les paliers aérodynamiques sont utilisés dans des machines de grande précision et de petite taille où se trouvent réunis les grandes vitesses de rotations avec les très faibles jeux. Plusieurs études numériques ont été faites pour déterminer les coefficients dynamiques des paliers à air mais les validations expérimentales sont toujours nécessaires. Un dispositif d'essai a été développé pour tester les paliers à air fonctionnant à une vitesse maximale de 60000 tr/min et sous différentes charges statiques. Les essais ont été faits sur des paliers aérodynamiques circulaires mais le dispositif peut tester d'autres types de paliers. Les excitations dynamiques sont appliquées par deux pots vibrants ou par un marteau d'impact et une méthode d'identification des coefficients dynamiques a été développée. Deux paliers aérodynamiques circulaires de 30 mm et 40 mm de diamètre avec L/D = 1 et un jeu radial de 22 µm ont été testés. Les résultats obtenus pour différentes vitesses de rotation et charges statiques ont été comparés avec le calcul théoriqueCircular air bearings are used in high precision rotating machineries of small size working at high rotation speeds and small clearances. Many numerical studies were performed for calculating the dynamic coefficients of air bearings but experimental validations are always necessary. A test rig for air bearings working up to 60,000 rpm and different static loads was developed. The tests were performed on circular bearings but the test rig can accommodate other types of air bearings. The dynamic excitations are applied by two shakers or by an impact hammer and an appropriate method were developed for identifying the dynamic coefficients. Two circular air bearings of 30 mm and 40 mm diameter with L/D=1 and 22 µm radial clearance were tested. The experimental data obtained for different rotation speeds and static loads are compared with theoretical results

Toute prise de parole implique un risque, celui de répéter un mot, une idée ou un concept qui existe déjà dans un autre discours. L’écriture n’échappe pas à cette réalité, au contraire. Dans certains cas, elle la renforce. La présente thèse de création porte sur les réseaux de sens qu’il est possible de tisser grâce au lien omniprésent qui existe entre les œuvres. Elle s’intéresse à un type de lien particulier : l’hypertextualité. Telle que définie par Gérard Genette, la relation hypertextuelle est la plus forte et la plus ouverte qui soit. Elle permet de tracer des parallèles tantôt sur le plan de la forme, tantôt sur le plan du style, et peut s’effectuer de manière sérieuse, satirique ou tout simplement ludique. Mais dans mon travail de réécriture, il est uniquement question d’une transformation sérieuse touchant la forme. En prenant « La pierre qui pousse » d’Albert Camus comme point de départ, j’ai mis à l’épreuve différents outils hypertextuels pour composer un nouveau texte : « La pierre décomposée ». L’ingénieur dépressif qui joue le rôle principal dans la nouvelle de Camus devient ainsi un meurtrier sans scrupules. D’une certaine manière, les deux protagonistes cherchent la même chose. Ils cherchent le bonheur. Mais ce bonheur prend deux formes très différentes et le chemin pour l’atteindre n’est évidemment pas le même. Alors que le personnage de Camus trouve ce qu’il cherche un peu par hasard, le mien échoue dans sa quête malgré des efforts répétés. Plus qu’un simple coup du destin, cette conclusion se veut surtout le reflet d’un bonheur volatile.

Resumo: A presente tese inclina-se sobre a obra do escritor francês Pierre Louÿs (1870 - 1925). Estudioso dos antigos poetas gregos e entusiasta da arte antiga, Louÿs pode, num primeiro momento ser associado à escola parnasiana. Em seus primeiros poemas, bem como em diversos momentos importantes de seu trabalho, ele dedicou-se à construção de um ambiente pagão, harmonioso e aprazível, munido de uma sensualidade bastante associada à plasticidade das formas. Porém, uma propensão singular transportou igualmente seu trabalho a outro território. Propensão esta que se revela pela adoção da temática do erotismo e, sobretudo, pela forma particular com que ele apropria-se de tal matéria. Pode-se ler em seus livros uma atmosfera bela, sensual e hedonista, que ao mesmo tempo atualiza uma das grandes tradições do erotismo literário: o humor a ironia e os excessos lúbricos postos em cena para caçoar e combater as regras morais e a hipocrisia sexual da sociedade. Na combinação desses dois ideais, um estético e outro subversivo, encontramos a face particular da produção de Louÿs que servirá de guia à nossa investigação: Como defensor de uma nova maneira, mais libertária, de pensar e de lidar com as paixões do corpo, o escritor termina por criar uma série de personagens que, armados de grande beleza e de uma graciosa ironia, cumprem o papel de contestar a moral puritana. Estamos falando prioritariamente de personagens femininas, pois no trabalho deste autor uma atenção especial é concedida às mulheres. Vasta, variada e incontestavelmente sedutora é a procissão de beldades femininas que desfilam por seus livros. Mas o elemento mais interessante a se notar nessas mulheres não se resume ao quadro de seus encantos físicos, e sim algo que segue de par com eles, a saber, uma personalidade espontânea e de tendências licenciosas, dedicada especialmente à realização de uma vida plena de beleza e prazer. Tratamos, portanto, de elencar e analisar, na obra de Pierre Louÿs, uma série de personagens femininos que possuem o atributo de funcionar como um modelo de comportamento permissivo, libertário e atraente. Abstract: This thesis is based on the work of the French writer Pierre Louÿs (1870-1925). Scholar of ancient Greek poets and enthusiastic of ancient art, Louÿs may at a first moment be associated with the Parnassian school. In his early poems, as well as various important moments in his work, he devoted himself to the construction of a pagan, harmonious and enjoyable atmosphere, equipped with a sensuality somewhat associated to the plasticity of forms. However, a singular inclination transported his work to another territory as well. This inclination is revealed by the adoption of the erotic theme, and especially by the very particular way in which he embraces it. In his books one can read a beautiful, sensual and hedonistic atmosphere which equally updates one of the great traditions of literary eroticism: humor, irony and a lascivious excess brought into play to mock and scuffle society's moral rules and sexual hypocrisy. By combining these two ideals, one aesthetic and another of moral subversion, we find the particular aspect of Louÿs's work that will guide us in our investigation: As an advocate of a new, more libertarian way of thinking and dealing with the body passions, the writer ends up creating a series of characters who, armed with great beauty and graceful irony, play the role of refuting puritanical morality. We refer mostly to female characters, as in the works of this author particular attention is given to women. Vast, varied and attractive is the undoubtedly seductive procession of beauties parading through his books. But the most interesting element to be noticed in these women is not restricted to their physical charms, but rather something that matches that up, that is, their spontaneous and licentious-prone personality, expressly devoted to achieving a life full of beauty and pleasure. We tried, thus, to list and analyze, in Pierre Louÿs's work, a series of female characters that have the attribute of working as a model of a permissive, libertarian and attractive behavior. A model which is above all an excuse for a very valuable and, at the same time, disturbing and very pleasant literature

Ce mémoire est consacré à l'étude de la trajectoire socioprofessionnelle de l'artisan relieur Pierre Ouvrard. Dans un premier temps, nous effectuons la synthèse des connaissances sur l'histoire de la reliure au Québec afin de montrer quelles sont les conditions d'émergence du métier de relieur au sein des métiers du livre et circonscrire les éléments d'une tradition en reliure d'art qui trouve ses origines au XIXe siècle. Cette première partie, qui aborde notamment les liens qu'entretient la pratique de la reliure avec les autres métiers du livre, les institutions et les collectionneurs, pose les éléments de réflexion sous-jacents à la deuxième partie du mémoire consacrée au parcours socioprofessionnel du relieur Pierre Ouvrard: la reliure comme oeuvre autonome (fonction utilitaire et fonction esthétique), le statut du relieur (artisan ou artiste), le rapport au texte (la reliure comme forme d'interprétation du texte), le marché et la diffusion de la reliure d'art. Ce sont là autant d'éléments qui permettent de montrer les transformations qui s'opèrent selon les conjonctures historiques et de situer la trajectoire du relieur Pierre Ouvrard au XXe siècle. Le coeur du mémoire étant consacré à dresser un portrait de la trajectoire socioprofessionnelle de l'artisan relieur selon une approche historique, cela nous permet de mesurer son apport à l'histoire du livre et de l'edition au Québec et au Canada au XXe siècle. Sa formation, l'accession à la carrière et à l'autonomie artistique, la diffusion de son oeuvre et sa production son abordés en ce sens.

Pour tenter d'élucider quelles sont les caractéristiques phénotypiques des cellules de glioblastome que contrôle la Cx43, nous avons inhibé son expression dans les cellules U251. Cette approche nous a permis de confirmer que la Cx43 est impliquée dans divers processus associés au développement des gliomes. En effet, si son absence favorise la croissance cellulaire, elle favorise l'angiogénèse tout en diminuant l'adhérence aux protéines matricielles, l'invasion en chambre de Boyden et l'invasion tissulaire ex vivo. Les capacités invasives des cellules de glioblastome étant responsables de la récurrence de ces tumeurs, nous avons tenté d'appréhender l'implication de la Cx43 dans ce phénomène. Tout d'abord, une analyse protéomique par spectrométrie de masse du sécrétome de cellules C6 de gliome de rat suggère que l'effet pro-migratoire induit par l'expression de la Cx43 est contrôlé, au moins en partie, par une composition différente du pool de protéines secrétées [les cytokines (MCP-1, TGF-β binding protein 1, galectine-1), les enzymes protéolytiques (MMP3, cathepsines B et L1), les composants de la matrice extracellulaire (fibronectine, SPARC et collagène α-1) qont notamment sursecrétés par les cellules C6 de gliome de rat exprimant la Cx43]. Par ailleurs, notre étude démontre l'importance des radeaux liquides dans le phénomène d'invasion cellulaire contrôlé par la Cx43. En effet, la désorganisation chimique de ces microdomaines conduit à une diminution drastique des capacités invasives associée à une inhibition des capacités de communication entre les cellules U251 et entre les cellules U251 et les astrocytes en culture primaire. En conclusion, nos résultats suggèrent que la Cx43 joue un rôle complexe voire contradictoire dans le contrôle du phénotype des cellules de glioblastome. En effet, alors que la Cx43 inhibe la prolifération, elle favorise l'invasion, phénomène nécessitant une correcte organisation des radeaux lipidiquesIn order to elucidate what are the phenotypic characteristics controlled by Cx43 in glioblastoma cells, we inhibited its expression, by using the shRNA strategy, in human glioblastoma U251 cells. This approach confirmed that Cx43 is involved in various processes associated to glioma development. Indeed, if its sbsence favors cell proliferation under some conditions (growth in soft agar), it increase angiogenesis while decreasing the adhesion to extracellular matrix proteins, the invasion capacity in Boyden chamber and ex vivo tissue invasion. Moreover, since the invasive capacities of glioblastoma cells are responsible for the tumor recurrence, we were interested to see how Cx43 regulates such capacities. First, a proteomic analysis by mass spectrometry of the secretome of rat glioma cells permitted to consider that such a capacity which is induced by the expression of Cx43 is at least partly mediated by a different pool of secreted proteins [citokines (MCP-1, TGF-β binding protein 1, galectin-1), proteases (MMP3, cathepsins B and L1) and extracellular matrix compounds (fibronectin, SPARC, collagen- α-1) are notably oversecreted by rat C6 glioma cells expressing Cx43]. Second, our study demonstrates that lipid rafts are involved in the invasion process controlled by Cx43. Indeed, the chemically-induced disorganization of these membrane microdomains leads to a drastic decrease of the invasive capacities of U251 cells associated with the inhibition of communication capacities between themselves (homocellular communication) or between them and the astrocytes in primary cultures (heterocellular communication). In conclusion, our results suggest that Cx43 play a complex and even contradictory role in the control of the phenotype of glioblastoma cells. Indeed, while Cx43 inhibits the proliferation of U251 cells, it favors their invasive capacities in association with the presence of lipid rafts

Orphée de Pierre Henry et Pierre Schaeffer, passe surtout pour être connu comme le premier opéra de musique concrète, faisant intervenir dès 1951, une chanteuse seule sur scène, face à une partie musicale fixée sur bande magnétique (Orphée 51 ou Toute la lyre). Souvent évoquée, mais rarement analysée, la portée de ce geste créateur s'éclipse fréquemment face au scandale retentissant que la seconde version de cette oeuvre provoque, deux ans plus tard, au festival de musique contemporaine de Donaueschingen, en Allemagne (Orphée 53). En outre, la consultation de nombreuses pièces d'archives privées nous apprend qu'au delà de ces deux incunables, les deux compositeurs, en dépit de leurs divergences méthodologiques et esthétiques, declinent indépendamment Orphée en une multitude de versions corollaires : palimpseste jusqu'alors inexploré et traversant pourtant la deuxième moitié du XXème siècle. Par circonvolution, il sera démontré que la figure du palimpseste peut être étendue à un corpus d'oeuvres plus large que celui pressenti initialement ; puisque certains des sons les plus emblématiques d'Orphée entretiennent des relations d'équivalences avec d'autres, puisés pourtant dans des opus a priori isolés de Pierre Henry et espacés pour certains de plusieurs dizaines d'années. Cette démarche, éclairée du point de vue méthodologique à travers le prisme connexionniste, vise finalement à révéler les premiers jalons d'un processus de composition extrêmement complexe, propre à ce compositeur : fondée sur un système d'indexation par taxums de l'ensemble de ses sons, cette approche engendre et favorise, de fait, une écriture profondément autogénérationnellePierre Henry and Pierre Schaeffer wrote Orphée, a masterpiece primarily known as the first opera of concrete music. In 1951, it already brought into play a singer alone on stage, with a musical backing recorded on a magnetic tape (Orphée 51 or Toute la lyre). Often mentioned but rarely analyzed, this act of creativity is often eclipsed by the scandal that the second version of this work caused two years later, at the Contemporary Music Festival of Donaueschingen in Germany (Orphée 53). Despite their methodological and aesthetic differences, the two composers declined Orphée in many corollary versions that can be found in private archives : palimpsest that remained inexplored during the second half of the twentieth century. By circumvolution, it show that the concept of palimpsest can be extended to a larger than originally anticipated ensemble of works, since some of the most iconic sounds of Orphée show equivalence relationships with sounds from other Pierre Henry's isolated works, which are sometimes separated by tens of years. We use the connectionist approach to reveal the first steps of an extremely complex process of composition, which is unique to Pierre Henry. It is based on an indexing system of all of its sounds, and supports a self-generational writing

The essay Ensemble Piece contemplates the nature of how one observes, labours, and translates as active and passive movements, repeated, reconstructed. The text is a companion piece to the installations Silver Tea and Silver Tea Suite. The works discussed in this text make up the installation Silver Tea. A contemplation of forms that kaleidoscopically revolve around each other, whose imagery, methodologies and forms reflect and morph into one another, a looping, repetitious rhythm that is not, however, confined to a circuitous nature. Silver Tea rests in a space and timeframe between suggestion, intention, and intuition, where gestures and their traces have taken on a life of their own. Silver Tea, a literal translation of the Swedish word silverte, is a misleading phrase. Silverte is, in its essence, simply a cup of hot water, therefore being neither silver, nor in fact, tea. But sometimes language can imbue in an object a sensation more magical than the sum of its parts. Later, thinking back on my early years in Sweden...

Efter andra världskriget var optimismen i Sverige på topp. Landet var skonat från förstörelse och ekonomin blomstrade. Folkhemmets ideal genomsyrade samhällets alla skikt och detta märktest tydligt på Telefonplan. I ett stort nybyggt funkishus hade LM Ericsson precis flyttat in med sina 5000 anställda. Den rationella fabriken hade byggts efter tayloristiska principer där verkstadens arbete analyserats och standardiserats. Staden åtog sig att dra fram spårvagnen från Svandammen, de anställda byggde småhus runt fabriken och LM byggde daghem och kulturhus. Tillslut blev det ett litet samhälle där allt kretsade kring Telefonfabriken, LM-andan blev ett begrepp. Men optimismen och idealen dog sakta ut. Telefonplan blev en tråkig plats dit inga unga ville flytta. 2004 förändrades det, Ericsson hade flyttat och en ”utbildningsindustri” tog över fabrikens lokaler och optimismen kom att blomstra igen. Med Konstfack centralt placerad på fabrikens verkstadsgolv blev denna ”kreativa industri” det som arbetare vallfärdade till från Telefonplans tunnelbanestation. Högskolorna reformeras nu i Sverige, liksom i hela Europa. Utbildningarna ska frambringa forskare, lärare och studenter som uppfyller från början noggrant fixerade mål. Produkterna ska återigen standardiseras. Telefonplan blir ett exempel på ett samhälle i förändring, tron på att ett framtida välstånd som numera inte skapas av ett fåtal jättelika bolag utan av små kreativa kunskapsintensiva företag. Med utbildningen i centrum ska Telefonplan nu bli Sveriges nya kreativa nav för konst och design. En inkubator för kreativa entreprenörer som ska ta plats i ett klimat där stad, näringsliv och akademi tillsammans bygger framtiden.

Cette étude interroge les différentes relations que la littérature québécoise contemporaine noue avec l’espace, et particulièrement les lieux de confins que rien ne semble prédisposer à une entrée en littérature : la campagne, la forêt, la petite ville et le Nord. Peu de recherches ont été menées sur ce que représentent ces espaces dans l’imaginaire contemporain. Ce sujet est d’autant plus crucial en littérature québécoise que ces “provinces littéraires” sont associées à des idéologies passéistes héritées de l’histoire littéraire du Québec (la “littérature du terroir”). Comment le poète et naturaliste Pierre Morency (1942-), le romancier Louis Hamelin (1959-) et l’écrivain et essayiste Pierre Nepveu (1945-) prennent en compte cet héritage pour écrire ces confins qui, depuis le début du XXe siècle, subissent de profonds changements ? L’étude s’attache à montrer comment s’élabore une vie intellectuelle qui permet au sujet d’adopter une attitude réflexive propice à l’écriture. Le premier chapitre expose après Beaudoin et Morency en quoi la question de la représentation de l’espace est problématique dans l’histoire littéraire québécoise. Dans le sillage des travaux de Genette, le second chapitre envisage le livre et le texte comme des espaces matériels. Un troisième chapitre étudie la description (Hamon) de quelques paysages privilégiés (Roger). Le dernier chapitre montre comment l’écriture des confins interroge la subjectivité en adoptant une perspective qui combine les approches philosophique (Heidegger), psychanalytique (Anzieu) et esthétique (Simard-Laflamme). La réflexion s’ouvre sur une mise en relation de ces textes avec le discours écologique contemporain.

Interviews and writing collaborations (including published correspondence) involving Boulez are also ordered alphabetically. The year given at the beginning of each bibliographical entry is, in the majority of cases, the year in which the text was first published (not necessarily the year of the edition cited). For all writings written by Boulez, I have provided the original title under which the text in question was first published (usually in French). Many articles have subsequently been translated into English and therefore I have decided to provide page references for both versions. For all texts by writers other than Boulez, I have cited the version of the text I have used. Wherever possible, I have cited the existing English translations of texts originally written in French. However, on many occasions I have considered it necessary to make alterations to the published translations. Although Pierre Seghers is well-known as publisher and promoter of poetry, his own poetry, as a corpus, has never been the focus of academic attention. This study approaches his poetry first through the themes. The picture which emerges, of the universe and the individual's position in this universe, is characterised by dynamism; nature, society and the individual are all in a state of becoming. So, too, are the individual's relationship with the outside world and the picture he has of himself. For the poet, these are realised in the language of his poetry. Part II is a study of the poetic technique. The importance attached by Seghers to the oral quality of poetry has led to an emphasis on the rhythms of Seghers's verse. Features which are typical of his verse and which give rise to dynamism in the verse itself are studied in relation to the dynamism which is conveyed thematically. The poetry is divided into four main types. These are the early fixed-form poetry, and three later freer forms: freed alexandrine verse, verse in mixed line-lengths, and verse written in lines of sixteen syllables. The poetry written in a mixture of line-lengths is highlighted as the apogee of Seghers's production: it is here that the dynamic relationship between the self and the outside world is most successfully concretised. The four categories reflect a chronological development, but the poetry seen in each section is studied in a synthetic manner, and a number of features are seen to be common to poetry of different types and from different periods. The synthetic character of the study is complemented by commentaries on three whole poems. A comprehensive bibliography of Seghers's poetry and prose works is found at the end of the thesis.

In the first two parts which are necessary for the overall understanding of his personality, I describe in detail the music activity of Jean-Pierre Rampal, his biography, educational activities, flute brands he preferred and his relationship to baroque music. In conclusion, I mentioned a few memories of Jean-Pierre Rampal his friends and colleagues and also outlined the activities of the Association Jean-Pierre Rampal and his discography.

Curieux des arts, principalement de la peinture et de la sculpture, puisqu'il se lie d'amitie avec tous les grands peintres et sculpteurs de la premiere moitie du siecle. Il sert aussi d'intercesseur entre les artistes-notamment laurencin, duchamp, brancusi-et des collectionneurs, en europe, aux usa ou en inde. Il est aussi curieux des femmes : sa vie se lit comme une longue experimentation de la gent feminine. Chaque femme etant particuliere, il lui faut les essayer toutes. Il est curieux egalement de sa propre vie : c'est a elle qu'il consacre la quasi totalite de ses ecrits. La seconde partie est consacree a l'etude de ses oeuvres. Il s'agit de montrer quelles en sont les qualites propres jules et jim, le roman le plus connu, est une belle histoire d'amour mais qui ne se laisse pas prendre aux cliches de la passion. L'originalite de deux anglaises et le continent reside d'abord dans sa construction et les textes originaux dont se sert l'auteur : journaux et correspondances sont assembles au point de faire naitre une oeuvre romanesque. The first part of it turns our attention to the writer's busy life. He can mostly be seen as a man full of curiosity. Indeed he was curious about arts - mostly painting and sculpture - and got acquainted with the greatest artists of the first half of our century. He was also an intermediary between some artists - notably laurencin, duchamp, brancusi - and collectors - particulary in france, in the usa and in india. He was also curious about women and felt he has to experiment them all on the ground that they were different from each other. Finally he was curious about his own life too and most of his written work is devoted to it. The second part of this dissertation deals with roche's work with a view to revealing its own literary quality. With jules et jim, his most famous novel, he does not indulge in the typical cliches of passion, however superb a love story this may be. The originality of deux anglaises et le continent lies in its structure and its sources - that is diaries and letters. Finally, le journal, with its about 7000 pages is a singular witness of this life : it's almost entirely devoted to women

En actualisant diversement les ressources expressives du blanc, reverdy en fait un moyen majeur de sa creation poetiqueThe particular usage of the blank is the one of the aspects that characterize the poetry of reverdy. In actual fact, this usage is infinitely tied up with the nature and the need of his poetry. If so, the blank should not be seperated, in reverdy, from the search of a new rhythm, and of a special syntax into a pure and simple poetry. At the same time, it is necessary to take notion of the plastic and symbolic dimensions that the blank accomplishes. Contemporary classical concert music could be part of the solution to build a just and sustainable future. My research demonstrates that such music, despite its niche, elitist positioning in contemporary American society, can contribute to social movements and change the world in meaningful, tangible ways when attention is paid to social movement strategy and structures of power. To reconsider the potential power of this music, I apply a range of methodologies from ethnography to hermeneutic analysis to nonviolent direct action strategy, drawing on the work of musicologists, ethnomusicologists, and social movement theorists. Given the elitism of the classical concert hall, it is a non-obvious genre in which to convey a social justice or leftist political theme, yet many composers try to do so. I examine five of these composers in depth: Laura Kaminsky, David Lang, Curt Cacioppo, Ludovico Einaudi, and Hannibal (who goes by other names but used the mononym Hannibal in the concert which
