Abstract: This thesis is based on the work of the French writer Pierre Louÿs (1870-1925). Scholar of ancient Greek poets and enthusiastic of ancient art, Louÿs may at a first moment be associated with the Parnassian school. In his early poems, as well as various important moments in his work, he devoted himself to the construction of a pagan, harmonious and enjoyable atmosphere, equipped with a sensuality somewhat associated to the plasticity of forms. However, a singular inclination transported his work to another territory as well. This inclination is revealed by the adoption of the erotic theme, and especially by the very particular way in which he embraces it. In his books one can read a beautiful, sensual and hedonistic atmosphere which equally updates one of the great traditions of literary eroticism: humor, irony and a lascivious excess brought into play to mock and scuffle society's moral rules and sexual hypocrisy. By combining these two ideals, one aesthetic and another of moral subversion, we find the particular aspect of Louÿs's work that will guide us in our investigation: As an advocate of a new, more libertarian way of thinking and dealing with the body passions, the writer ends up creating a series of characters who, armed with great beauty and graceful irony, play the role of refuting puritanical morality. We refer mostly to female characters, as in the works of this author particular attention is given to women. Vast, varied and attractive is the undoubtedly seductive procession of beauties parading through his books. But the most interesting element to be noticed in these women is not restricted to their physical charms, but rather something that matches that up, that is, their spontaneous and licentious-prone personality, expressly devoted to achieving a life full of beauty and pleasure. We tried, thus, to list and analyze, in Pierre Louÿs's work, a series of female characters that have the attribute of working as a model of a permissive, libertarian and attractive behavior. A model which is above all an excuse for a very valuable and, at the same time, disturbing and very pleasant literature

Full textPierre Henry and Pierre Schaeffer wrote Orphée, a masterpiece primarily known as the first opera of concrete music. In 1951, it already brought into play a singer alone on stage, with a musical backing recorded on a magnetic tape (Orphée 51 or Toute la lyre). Often mentioned but rarely analyzed, this act of creativity is often eclipsed by the scandal that the second version of this work caused two years later, at the Contemporary Music Festival of Donaueschingen in Germany (Orphée 53). Despite their methodological and aesthetic differences, the two composers declined Orphée in many corollary versions that can be found in private archives : palimpsest that remained inexplored during the second half of the twentieth century. By circumvolution, it show that the concept of palimpsest can be extended to a larger than originally anticipated ensemble of works, since some of the most iconic sounds of Orphée show equivalence relationships with sounds from other Pierre Henry's isolated works, which are sometimes separated by tens of years. We use the connectionist approach to reveal the first steps of an extremely complex process of composition, which is unique to Pierre Henry. It is based on an indexing system of all of its sounds, and supports a self-generational writing

Full textThis dissertation is an attempt to throw light on both the life and work of henri-pierre roche (1879-1959) who has remained a fairly unknown literary figure despite the film adaptation of his two novels. The first part of it turns our attention to the writer's busy life. He can mostly be seen as a man full of curiosity. Indeed he was curious about arts - mostly painting and sculpture - and got acquainted with the greatest artists of the first half of our century. He was also an intermediary between some artists - notably laurencin, duchamp, brancusi - and collectors - particulary in france, in the usa and in india. He was also curious about women and felt he has to experiment them all on the ground that they were different from each other. Finally he was curious about his own life too and most of his written work is devoted to it. The second part of this dissertation deals with roche's work with a view to revealing its own literary quality. With jules et jim, his most famous novel, he does not indulge in the typical cliches of passion, however superb a love story this may be. The originality of deux anglaises et le continent lies in its structure and its sources - that is diaries and letters. Finally, le journal, with its about 7000 pages is a singular witness of this life : it's almost entirely devoted to women

Full textThe particular usage of the blank is the one of the aspects that characterize the poetry of reverdy. In actual fact, this usage is infinitely tied up with the nature and the need of his poetry. If so, the blank should not be seperated, in reverdy, from the search of a new rhythm, and of a special syntax into a pure and simple poetry. At the same time, it is necessary to take notion of the plastic and symbolic dimensions that the blank accomplishes. Actualizing in various ways the expressive resources of the blank, reverdy sets it up as a major means of his poetic creation

Full textTwo phenomena came out in the early 1990's which seemed totally contradictory. On the one hand, with two different cases, the "affaire du foulard" and the "affaire clovis", some of the fundamental principles of the french secularised (non-religious) state education system were brought into question ; on the other hand, in france there was a growing interest in religious cultures, which was demonstrated in the teaching programme by religious questions being included in history syllabuses following the 1995 reform. The paroisse universitaire has always been dealing with the non-religious issues since it was founded by joseph lotte in 1911 and its vocation was really to unite two distinct ideologies which opposed throughout the 20th century, i. E. Secularisation and catholicism. Made up of catholic lecturers from the three orders (later four when the technique schools appeared in 1951) of the french university, the paroisse universitaire breathed new life into the consideration given to the problem of state education, which reached its peak in 1951 when pope pius xii welcomed a pilgrimage to rome (the birth of an openly secularised system). As a key observer in the post-war state education struggles (philip, paul-boncour and lapie commitees, as well as in the marie-barange and debre laws), the paroisse universitaire became interested, encouraged by its national chaplain, the oratorian priest pierre dabosville (1907-1976), in current affairs problems and in particular the war in algeria and the sharp check imposed on working priests (1954), thus uniting all of the conditions for a renewal of the commitment of the french catholic intellectuals

Full textIn the 14th century Peter I and Peter III reigned over Castille and Aragon. They have gone down in history as the cruel one (Peter I) and the ceremonious one (Peter III). These nicknames are due to the Chronicles, written about these two kings; Pero Lopez de Ayala's work about Peter I and the other written by Peter III, helped by other writers. These works are therefore political acts- the one, written in Catalan- aiming to justify the Sovereign's actions- whereas on the contrary, the other, the Castillian Chronicle, intended to criticize them. These works are therefore vital as it is through these that the reader can form his own judgement of people and events. However, before attaining this aim, a study of the actual act of writing must be carried out. People should question its final form, reflect upon its reach and indicate what it should offer. The stakes are high as it is a question of defining the meaning of the expression writing history, at the end of these Middle Ages

Full textConnecting the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, is to follow the steps of the divine purposem so-called ur-mythos (creation, fall, redemption) in biblical mythocriticism, the Bible, this huge reservoir of images, stories and myths, having influenced, according to Northrop Frye, the Western imagination as a unity. As part of this work, we examine at a structural level, the linking of Genesis and Revelation by evaluating the convergences and divergences in the text to explore their meaning, content and nature. Genesis announces the coming of the Apocalypse and Revelation re-writes Genesis. Traverse reading of the Bible shows how the interaction takes place between the biblical text and the poetic text, thus highlight the different conditions of poetic rewritings. We will emphasize the convincing presence of these two biblical books, in the poetic works of Pierre Jean Jouve, Pierre Emmanuel and Odysseus Elytis (Nobel Prize in Literature in 1979), major poets of the twenthieth century whose affinities are many, by revealing the significant biblical elements, myths, images and episodes from Genesis and Revelation in their poetry, then investigate how theses poets appropriated and galvanize this unity from the beginning of the creation to the end of time, from the original sin to the redemption. The question is how and why are these poets inspired from these two books of the Bible? How and by what methods do these poets evoke the poetic experience or even the history through these two biblical myths? Mallarmé said to René Ghil that ’’one cannot get beyond Eden’’. After all, we cannot go beyond our Eden... and our Apocalypse

Full textThe work is composed of two sections. The first part is a reconstruction and a problematization of Pierre Clastres’s political thought, which constitutes the dissertation; the second part is a collection of unpublished documents (Appendice I) along with the translation of some Clastrian texts, never translated into Italian before (Appendice II).The first section Il pensiero politico di Pierre Clastres (Pierre Clastres’ political thought) consists of three chapters. In the first one, I propose a study of the author’s intellectual trajectory, through an analysis of contexts and a discussion of political and intellectual debates going on in those years (Paris, ’60-’70). This historical approach allowed me to understand the specificity of Clastres’s thought and references, both implicit and explicit, contained in his texts. I have analysed his relations with PCF, with intellectual and political projects such as Socialisme ou barbarie and Libre and his acquaintance with Lévi-Strauss, Lefort, Métraux, Sebag among others. The second chapter, Contre, is consecrated to the analysis of Clastres’s hypothesis that state-less societies are organised against the rising of the State. I have here reconstructed the evolution of Clastres’s proposal by analyzing in particular how the author relates to the theory of exchange proposed by Lévi-Strauss. Indeed, it is through a redefinition of the notion of exchange at the level of chieftainship and war that the author has constructed his political anthropology. I have then tried to problematize the notion of “State” used by Clastres through studies on contractualism and the social pact in modern political theory related to the approach of conceptual history (Begriffsgeschichte). In the third chapter, I have studied the reception of Clastrian thought in contemporary political philosophy and anthropology: on the one hand, I have addressed Clastres’s dialogues with Deleuze, Guattari and Foucault and, on the other, I have carried out a mapping of the most relevant readings of Clastres in the contemporary debate. The second part reports on the results of the archival work that I have done during these years of research. In Appendice I, I present some transcripts of interviews I have made at INA (Institut National de l’Audiovisuel). Lastly, in Appendice II I propose the Italian translation of some texts, a number of which were not even mentioned in the bibliography of reference (Cahier Pierre Clastres by Miguel Abensour and Anne Kupiec) or in the catalogue of Pierre Clastres’s archive – like, for example, the interview with Raymond Bellour in Le livre des autres

The second part emphasizes the difference between the wides pread appeal of exoticism among the public, from 1870 to 1918, and among the writers, who wish to react against the prevailing mentality of their time. A close study of the literary field allow us to place loti and segalen in the literature of this time.
