Aquifer maps are key tools for water resources management, and allow to characterize a water table distribution and variability. The Grombalia plain in the northeast part of Tunisia was studied to identify the origin of groundwater recharge and to specify the type of recharge in the whole study area. It aims to investigate the impact of recharge schemes on the piezometric evolution of the water table. Furthermore, the purpose is to investigate the origin and dominant factor of the recharge. An important issue in the design of flow through rockfill structures is the pore pressure distribution and the associated hydraulic gradients, neither of which are associated with Darcy's law. Abstract:
The study area, in northwestern Burundi, is an alluvial plain consisting of fine clayey sands and coarse sands with mixed lithology. The aquifer of the lower Rusizi plain could be considered as confined under a clay layer. A 2D horizontal groundwater flow model was developed under steady-state conditions using the Modflow software. The study aims to determine the most productive areas of this confined alluvial aquifer and the main aquifer inflow and outflow values together with the recharge and river–aquifer interactions. The groundwater potential is dependent on the spatial distribution of hy

Abstract Our study is aimed at assessing the extent at which relying on differing geostatistical approaches may affect characterization of the connectivity of geomaterials (or facies) and, in turn, model calibration outputs in highly heterogeneous aquifers. We set our study within a probabilistic framework, by relying on a numerical Monte Carlo (MC) approach. The reconstruction of the spatial distribution of geomaterials and flow simulations are patterned after a field scenario corresponding to the aquifer system serving the city of Bologna (Northern Italy). Abstract Despite their potential influences on surface water and climate, groundwater processes are generally not represented in climate models. Here, a simple groundwater scheme including two-dimensional flow dynamics and accounting for groundwater–river exchanges is introduced into the global Total Runoff Integrated Pathways (TRIP) river routing model coupled to the Météo-France climate model. This original scheme is tested in offline mode over France at high () and low (0.5°) resolution against a dense network of river discharge and water table observations over the 1970–2010 period, and is

Abstract The potentiometer area in the Annaba basin, covering an area of 264 km2, has declined considerably since 1995. The analysis of the chronological hydrographs (1991–2009) of the piezometric observations shows that this decline is related to about twenty years (20 years) drought that began in 1991. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of velocity head on filling transients in a branched pipeline by an energy equation considering velocity head. Design/methodology/approach An interface tracking method is used to locate the air–water interface during pipeline filling. The pressured pipe flow is solved by a method of characteristics. The performance of clayey liners and covers is assessed by several methods including borehole variable-head permeability (k) tests. Different interpretations of the end-of-casing and Lefranc tests are discussed. In Quebec, most tests have been interpreted using the velocity-graph method. Its equations are presented and differences are illustrated by examples. Numerical simulations confirm the validity of the velocity-graph method. It eliminates a frequent error in the k value resulting from a poor evaluation of the piezometric level for the test. Using an incorrect interpretation method may yi
