Abstract:
The first diamond mine in North America was discovered in 1906 when John W. Huddleston found two diamonds on his farm just south of Murfreesboro in Pike County, Arkansas. Experts soon confirmed that the diamond-bearing formation on which Huddleston made his discovery was the second largest of its kind and represented 25 percent of all known diamond-bearing areas in the world. Discovery of the field generated nearly a half century of speculative activity by men trying to demonstrate and exploit its commercial viability. The field, however, lacked the necessary richness for successful commercial

Film is commonly used to estimate the fast-start performance of fish. An analysis of hypothetical, film-derived, and accelerometer-measured acceleration-time data of fish fast-starts indicates that the total error in film studies is the sum of the sampling frequency error (i.e., the error due to over-smoothing at low film speeds) and measurement error. The error in film based studies on the acceleration performance of fish is estimated to be about 33 to 100% of the maximum acceleration, suggesting that other methods of estimating acceleration should be employed. Abstract:
Basal metabolic rate (BMR), the sum of maintenance energy costs, represents a major component of the energy budgets of ectothermic vertebrates and varies between individuals within a species. Individual ectotherms are generally assumed to have a constant BMR at any given temperature. A strategy of flexibility in BMR might have evolved to cope with differing environmental conditions. Within-individual variation in BMR was examined in two fishes, juvenile Atlantic salmon Salmo salar and juvenile northern pike Esox lucius, whilst the effects of exercise and ration on BMR, maximum metabolic rate (

Abstract:
Individer
