Members of the family Pilumnidae are common on intertidal and subtidal tropical and subtropical rocky, coral rubble and mud habitats. In the current study we collected 17 species belonging to 10 genera from the Iranian coast of the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. The species were examined using detailed morphological characteristics and any variation was recorded and compared with material from other geographical regions. Further, we compared 1171 base pairs of two mitochondrial genes (COI and 16S rRNA) and one nuclear gene (H3), and present reference sequences for the regional pilumnids, som

Abstract A new genus and new species of pilumnid crab, Ericiolumnus symbioticus (Decapoda: Brachyura), is described from the sponge Callyspongia Duchassaing & Michelotti, 1864 (Porifera: Callyspongiidae) in reefs in Lombok, Indonesia. The new taxon is characterized, among several characters, by the unusual shape of the carapace, which possesses sharp anterolateral teeth armed with secondary spinules, and prominently spinulous ambulatory legs. Another pilumnid, Pseudactumnus pestaeBalss, 1933, is shown to be a junior synonym of Actumnus asper (Rüppell, 1830). The pilumnid genus Pseudactumnu

Abstract The type of the poorly known pilumnid crab, Speocarcinus celebensis Tesch, 1918, is redescribed and figured. As Speocarcinus is now known to be a wholly American pseudorhombilid, the generic placement of this Tesch species has been in doubt. Ng (1987) provisionally assigned it to Viaderiana Ward, 1942, but Števčić (2011) decided to place it in a new monotypic genus, Bossacarcinus. The type is a poorly preserved subadult female, and not a male as originally reported. Abstract:
Pilumnopeus makianus is a crab that belongs to Pilumnidae, Brachyura. Although many recent studies have focused on the phylogeny of Brachyura, the internal relationships in this clade are far from settled. In this study, the complete mitogenome of P. makianus was sequenced and annotated for the first time. The length of the mitogenome is 15,863 bp, and includes 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNA), and 2 ribosomal RNA genes (rRNA). The mitogenome exhibits a high AT content (72.26%), with a negative AT-skew (−0.01) and a GC-skew (−0.256). In the mitogenome of P. makianus

The poorly known brachyuran crab, Pronotonyx laevis Ward, 1936, from northern Australia, is redescribed based on type and other material. We document adults of both sexes and confirm the taxonomic placement of the Pronotonyx in the Pilumnidae. Pronotonyx is most similar to the Australian Pseudocryptocoeloma parvum Ward, 1936, differing in features of the carapace and pereopods.

Pilumnopeus convexus (Maccagno, 1936) (Pilumnidae) is recorded for the first time across the Indian coast. The species has so far been reported from coastal waters of the Red Sea, Pakistan and Persian Gulf. P. convexus can be easily distinguished from closely related species in having transversely hexagonal carapace, acute anterolateral teeth and tip of the male left gonopod curved to form a hook like structure. Possible explanations to the new record are discussed.

Abstract:
Abstract Pilumnus lanuginosus Klunzinger, 1913 is a rarely reported pilumnid crab known only from the Red Sea. Although placed in Heteropilumnus De Man, 1895, since 1933 this species is here transferred to Pseudolitochira Ward, 1942. The lateral parts of the posterior epistome margin in this small-sized species are concave, entire and devoid of fissures or clefts, which is a Pseudolitochira character. As the types of Pilumnus lanuginosus are no longer extant, a male from the Red Sea is designated as the neotype of the species.
